Rightio Loose Units, Grafton's got the Heavy 10 bog vibe, the showers are stirring, and today's racing looks like it's gonna be won by the horse that finds grip, balance, and one last gear before the line. If you've ever watched a superhero movie where the hero slips three times then still lands the punch, that's the energy.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Heavy 10, 1725m-1425m card
Rail: + 8 meters 800 to the 400m + 5meters the remainder.
Official going: Heavy 10 (expected to play sticky, tiring, and position-sensitive)
Weather: Showers, gusty and rain risk swings through the day, watch 08:00, 11:00, 14:00, 17:00
Early lane guess: mid-pack runners who can find a pocket, because on a Heavy 10 you do not wanna be doing hero work three wide for fun
Tempo profile: Slow to Moderate, then it turns into genuine "who's still standing in the last 200" contests
Jockeys to follow:
Ben Looker: heaps of rides on the card, and he's the sort who steers through chaos without turning the car over
Andrew Mallyon: solid book, gets them where they need to be when the surface is chewing up legs
Zac Wadick: jumps out with intent, handy when the race shape is more on-pace than backmarker
Stables to respect:
M J Dunn (8 runners): consistent operators, and when they're in work at Grafton they're usually not wasting trips
Ethan Ensby (7 runners): the "bring them ready" type, especially when the track is asking questions
Shane Everson (5 runners): he's got that knack for getting horses to handle heavy and still run on

Punty's take:

Alright, this is a Heavy 10 meet where pace matters, but grip matters more. The rail is working through the middle phases too, so if you see runners getting stuck on the wrong strip, they can bleed out late. Think of it like trying to sprint on wet concrete, your shoes still wanna slip even if you're fit as a fiddle.

The map is showing slow and mid tempo in a bunch of races, which usually screams "patient riders, then the swerve at the finish." In Race 1 especially, it's backmarker country in a maiden, so I'm expecting the winner to be the one who gets the smoothest run through the mud rather than the one who tries to win at the 400m mark.

What I really like is the spine across the day. Race 1 has a clear favourite profile. Race 3 is another short-priced type that looks like it can just keep rolling. Race 2 gives you a proper, value-friendly favourite. If you get those three right, you're basically running your own little Marvel cinematic universe, with rain and bruises.

What it means for you:

Bet with the track, not against it. In the early races, I'm backing horses that can either sit in a safe spot and avoid being trapped in mud, or keep enough speed to stay in the race when the bottom drops out. Don't go too wide in your thinking in the first few, because wet tracks punish overconfidence.

My aggressiveness is mainly on the shorter, more reliable types in Races 1, 2, 3, then I'll use the roughies like danger-flags, because if the speed collapses or a run opens up late, the roughie can still steal it. For the longer exotics lanes later, I'll go wide where the races open up, but I'm not turning my quaddie into a donation.

And yeah, watch the rain. If it ramps up, the "smooth trip" crew becomes gold.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Queen Of Thinking (Race 1, No.8) — $1.95
Why She just looks built for this kind of wet, steady grind, and she's the one I want in my life.

2 - Overabundant (Race 2, No.4) — $1.90
Why Genuine class profile and the kind of profile that can box-seat through a muddy 1020m.

3 - Duchess Difficult (Race 3, No.6) — $1.65
Why Stronger structure, better finishing angle, and she's the one most likely to keep lifting when others fade.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~6.00 = ~${60.00} collect

Race 1 – Graftontickets.com.au Mdn Plate

Race type: MAIDEN, 1725m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, expected backmarkers stacking up early
Punty read: This is heavy-10 maiden chaos where the race is decided by who gets clear later, not who looks fastest off the jump. No.8 Queen Of Thinking has the sort of profile to stalk without burning, No.4 Mission Strike is flying late potential if the backmarkers get a lane, and No.6 Sarmat brings those fast closing signals with the advantage of a smooth trip if they land him closer than the others. The danger? In a slow tempo, backmarkers can still win, but only if jockeys don't do the wrong kind of patience.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Queen Of Thinking (No.8) — $1.95 / $1.22
Bet $15.00 Win, return $29.25
Prob 37.3% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 1.36x Steady since tip
Why Maps nicely for the back end of the race, and on Heavy 10 she can keep finding under pressure, she looks the one to handle the mud without overreaching.

2. Mission Strike (No.4) — $2.70 / $1.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 31.0% | Place: 47.3% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Sarmat (No.6) — $5.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.89x Steady since tip
Why Strong closing indicators, but you want him for the exotics bite, not the main stake in a tight maiden.

Roughie: Jieba (No.3) — $9.50 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.6% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 1.29x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers on first time can sharpen him up, and if the pace crawls, the backmarker lane opens late.

Race 2 – Book A Christmas Party @ CRJC Country Boosted Maiden Handicap

Race type: MAIDEN, 1020m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, leaders have the advantage
Punty read: Sprint on a wet surface is all about who controls the first half, then who actually still has petrol at the 100m. No.4 Overabundant is the best "get the job done" profile, No.3 Universal Energy looks like he can lead off the tempo and hold his spot, and No.5 Parting The Seas is the sort who can stay in the fight if the pace doesn't get stupid. The big threat in these short races is slow starts, and this one has enough early pressure that the best-positioned horses can bank the race.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Overabundant (No.4) — $1.90 / $1.13
Bet $15.00 Win, return $28.50
Prob 33.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Market's backing the horse for a reason, and the profile screams "show up early and keep kicking," perfect for Heavy 10 sprinting.

2. Universal Energy (No.3) — $5.50 / $1.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.82 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Parting The Seas (No.5) — $5.50 / $1.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.54x Steady since tip
Why On pace, can run a cheeky race, but it's a better picture for the place if you're playing wider.

Roughie: Sunny Side Street (No.11) — $15.00 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.7% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 1.31x Steady since tip
Why If the field bunches up late in the heavies, she can grab a slice, she's the "get on if the lanes appear" type.

Race 3 – CRJC AGM 25 November Mdn Plate

Race type: MAIDEN, 1220m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, midpack and power runners can take over late
Punty read: This is a classic 1200m maiden where you don't want to be lost too early in heavy conditions. No.6 Duchess Difficult is the one with the cleanest run style, No.7 Limbazi is a live threat if he settles and keeps momentum, and No.8 Plume is a speed-and-run-in-a-straight-line type. The big angle is this tempo, slow enough that "finishers" matter, but not so slow that leaders get to stroll it. If the race stays bunched, the better horse with the right trip wins.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Duchess Difficult (No.6) — $1.70 / $1.08
Bet $15.00 Win, return $25.50
Prob 41.7% | Place: 60.6% | Value: 1.31x Steady since tip
Why She's got the strongest "keep going through it" profile, and on heavy you can tell who doesn't lose balance.

2. Limbazi (No.7) — $7.50 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.28x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Plume (No.8) — $6.00 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.3% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.35x Steady since tip
Why Good form context, but the market value line says he's a riskier win picture.

Roughie: Naystar (No.9) — $12.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 2.51x Steady since tip
Why If something goes wrong in the bunched traffic, he can peel out and grab the prize at a nice price.

Race 4 – Work Christmas Party @ CRJC (Bm58)

Race type: BENCHMARK 58, 2385m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, staying test where positions get ugly late
Punty read: 2385m on Heavy 10 is a grind, so you want a horse that can keep finding instead of one that needs everything to go right at the 600m. No.5 Questionable is the one I can see doing the job across the trip, No.8 Woodland Wonder has that wet-track style and a market vibe, and No.2 California Grass is dangerous if the run is clean late. The rougher long-ballers can get framed by the pack, so trust the staying efficiency.

Top 3 + Roughie ($4.00 pool)

1. Questionable (No.5) — $4.60 / $1.82
Bet $4.00 Win, return $18.40
Prob 19.8% | Place: 48.0% | Value: 1.18x Steady since tip
Why Heavy 10 stayer, get the trip, don't overdo it early, then keep picking up in the straight.

2. California Grass (No.2) — $5.00 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.10x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Woodland Wonder (No.8) — $8.50 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.5% | Place: 38.0% | Value: 1.38x Steady since tip
Why Wet-suited, and if he gets a lane, he can absolutely pop, but not today on the win stake.

Roughie: Mahuika Maroi (No.4) — $10.00 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.14x Steady since tip
Why More of an exotics play, especially if the tempo stays slow and the finish turns into a battle of who stays on their feet.

Race 5 – Jacaranda Cup Prelude (Bm82)

Race type: BENCHMARK 82, 1120m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, speed stays important
Punty read: 1120m with real tempo on a heavy deck, this is where the "can travel and still stop" horses get paid. No.6 Damas looks the best each-way anchor, No.5 Rich Star is the leader type but you're paying for him, and No.3 Lady Wardell sits close enough to keep the momentum. If the pace holds together, the middle of the field can get run over, so you want horses that can keep their rhythm.

Top 3 + Roughie ($3.00 pool, WATCH ONLY style)

1. Damas (No.6) — $4.50 / $1.82
Bet $3.00 Each Way ($1.50W + $1.50P), return $6.75 (wins) / $2.73 (places)
Prob 20.4% | Place: 45.1% | Value: 1.20x Steady since tip
Why Pace-friendly on heavy, and the type that can keep grinding when others get swallowed.

2. Rich Star (No.5) — $3.60 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.5% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Lady Wardell (No.3) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why Similar story, can place, but we're not duplicating the pain.

Roughie: Dune And Dusted (No.7) — $13.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.40x Steady since tip
Why If he keeps his act together and the leaders tire, he's got a real "surprise me" path.

Race 6 – Book A Christmas Race Meeting Marquee Hcp (C1)

Race type: CLASS 1, 1120m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, short sharp contest
Punty read: This is a classier sprint where the leaders can't just run on vibes, the track punishes soft speed. No.4 Brief Authority has the profile to be right in it, No.7 Happyaziam brings a strong finishing angle from midfield, and No.8 Pinkish Hue is another who can hang on if the race doesn't blow apart early. Heavy 10 at 1120m is about braking and balance, so the horse that travels under control is dangerous.

Top 3 + Roughie ($3.00 pool)

1. Brief Authority (No.4) — $3.50 / $1.55
Bet $3.00 Each Way ($1.50W + $1.50P), return $5.25 (wins) / $2.33 (places)
Prob 26.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.18x Steady since tip
Why Best blend of competitiveness and staying power through the slick sections, he's built for this type of grind.

2. Happyaziam (No.7) — $3.50 / $1.52
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.3% | Place: 53.5% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Pinkish Hue (No.8) — $6.00 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.05x Steady since tip
Why Value for the place, but win stake selection is staying tight.

Roughie: Nomomeikushi (No.5) — $12.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.9% | Place: 22.4% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why If the leaders stall and he's not too far back, he can clamber into the money.

Race 7 – Team Aidan Markets @ CRJC 22 November (Bm66)

Race type: BENCHMARK 66, 1625m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, but it's still a benchmark war in the run home
Punty read: 1625m on heavy is where you see who can sustain, not just sprint. No.9 Always A Rainbow is the one I want on top, because his running style suits a race that keeps moving. No.7 Venom Wolf and No.5 Inception are the pocket threats, they can slide into the finish if traffic opens up. No.10 Dark Chill is the type that can sneak into exotics if he's switched on early enough.

Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)

1. Always A Rainbow (No.9) — $3.50 / $1.60
Bet $7.50 Win, return $26.25
Prob 20.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why He's the most dependable of the bunch, and at this trip on heavy he should keep running through the worst of it.

2. Venom Wolf (No.7) — $9.50 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.1% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.22x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $3.10 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Inception (No.5) — $10.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.8% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.25x Steady since tip
Why He can absolutely fill a spot, but today is about sticking to the backbone.

Roughie: Dark Chill (No.10) — $12.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.30x Steady since tip
Why If traffic breaks late, he's got a real sprint-for-the-line burst.

Race 8 – CRJC Christmas Race Day 29 November Country Boosted Hcp (C2)

Race type: CLASS 2, 1425m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, but Heavy 10 stretches everyone
Punty read: 1425m gives you a bit of room to manoeuvre, and heavy makes every corner and stride count. No.5 Wild Monarch is the value win profile at this stage of the day, No.6 Whiskey Miss and No.7 Graceful Warrior are your place and finish threats, and No.3 Spicy Wings is the roughie that could find a lane late. If the tempo holds, the horses that can keep their rhythm through the middle are the ones that finish best.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Wild Monarch (No.5) — $2.20 / $1.22
Bet $15.00 Win, return $33.00
Prob 26.3% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why He's got the right profile to handle heavy over a solid trip, and he's the one I expect to be in the finish with options.

2. Whiskey Miss (No.6) — $7.50 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.51x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.50 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Graceful Warrior (No.7) — $8.50 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.54x Steady since tip
Why Strong place threat, and if the run opens he can hit the board in a heartbeat.

Roughie: Spicy Wings (No.3) — $13.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.9% | Place: 22.8% | Value: 0.99x Steady since tip
Why If they don't go quick early enough, the backmarkers can travel and still get rolling, and he's got the upside.

SEQUENCE LANES

EARLY QUADDIE (R1–R4)

Smart: 8,4,6 / 4,3,1,5,11 / 6,8,7,9 / 5,2,8,4 (240 combos x $0.08 = $20.00) -- 8% flexi
Punty's take: Two tight legs plus two chaos legs, so it's a "hope the wet doesn't do something rude" quaddie, decent risk.

QUADDIE (R5–R8)

Smart: 3,6,5,7 / 7,4,8,5 / 9,5,10,7 / 5,6,7,3 (256 combos x $0.08 = $20.00) -- 8% flexi
Punty's take: Four open-ish legs, so you're buying coverage for the price of possible heartbreak, solid flex.

BIG 6 (R3–R8)

Smart: 6,8,7,9 / 5,2,8,4 / 3,6,5,7 / 7,4,8,5 / 9,5,10,7 / 5,6,7,3 (4096 combos x $0.00122 = $5.00) -- 0.12% flexi
Punty's take: Wide enough to forgive a couple of wobblers, but thin flex, entertainment-first.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Heavy 10 punishes the "pretty trip"
On tracks like this, being smooth matters more than being flash early. If a horse can sit without losing position, they can hit the line.

2 - Short races love the control types
At 1020m and 1120m, the race can be decided before the bend, so your best bets are the ones that naturally keep tempo without getting lost.

3 - Rain flips the value dial late
If the showers land harder around the afternoon, expect tighter finishes and more place-paying chaos, especially in the midfield-stalking runners.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

This is the kind of day where you either get rewarded for sticking to the right trip, or you get punished for trying to outsmart a Heavy 10. Roll the spine, respect the mud, and enjoy the bruises. Gamble Responsibly.
