Punty's Punts
Race type: MAIDEN, 1300m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, but there are a few that can push forward, then the finish matters.
Punty read: This is one of those maiden races where the speed isn't lightning fast, so the winners are the ones that settle, then start peeling off lanes at the right moment. Quaint and Silver Dream are the obvious ones the market keeps circling, because they're the ones that look like they can turn a run into a result. But if you want value, you want to watch the ones with excuses and first-time gear changes, because on Good 4 that can be the difference between "everywhere and nowhere" and "actually there at the end".
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)
1. Quaint (No.3) — $5.00 / $1.82 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $6.50 Each Way ($3.25W + $3.25P) — ✗ Lost, net -$6.50
Prob 33.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.10x
Why She's got the best straight line to the finish, and the market confidence says she's the one they want reaching for late.
2. Silver Dream (No.12) — $5.00 / $1.85 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 32.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.01x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Meldirer (No.6) — $12.00 / $2.65 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.3% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.58x
Why First-time blinkers, and her profile screams "good effort hiding behind a run that didn't click."
Roughie: Cooly Rocks (No.8) — $15.00 / $3.00 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$26.00
Prob 5.5% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.68x
Why If the speed collapses, he's the type that can sneak into the money with a late burst off midfield.
Race type: CLASS 1, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo, so being in the right half matters more than being on the absolute speed.
Punty read: This is a "who gets the sit and who doesn't get stuck" race. Media Spin looks like the one who can land closer than midfield and then start punching through when they straighten. Snow Dog is the danger because he's thereabouts in the right spots, but the value and the run style lean Media Spin. Sabatina and Wootton Please are the real place landmines, especially if the back markers get into a clean run lane late.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)
1. Media Spin (No.2) — $2.75 / $1.45 🏆 2ND
Bet $6.50 Each Way ($3.25W + $3.25P) — Cashed, net -$1.79
Prob 27.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.12x
Why He maps to get a patient run, then hits the lane late like he's got a purpose.
2. Snow Dog (No.3) — $3.70 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.83x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Wootton Please (No.6) — $10.00 / $2.90 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 35.8% | Value: 1.36x
Why Extra gear and the run style fit, he's the one who can lift off a steady tempo.
Roughie: Sabatina (No.5) — $9.60 / $2.60 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 8.8% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.04x
Why If the pace doesn't sprint away, she's the sort that can travel, then grab a spot.
Race type: MAIDEN, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, sprinting into the turn, so position and balance win more often than luck.
Punty read: At 1100m with genuine pace, it turns into a front-runner versus chaos contest. The Beast is built for this. If he's on the speed early, he can give the rest a headache, because everyone else has to save something and still find space. Sutton Storm and Unionista are the big place threats, especially if the leaders kick in too hard.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. The Beast (No.4) — $3.80 / $1.70 🏆 2ND
Bet $7.50 Each Way ($3.75W + $3.75P) — Cashed, net -$1.12
Prob 23.2% | Place: 65.2% | Value: 0.73x
Why He's the leader type and the gear changes look like they've sharpened him for the sprint grind.
2. Sutton Storm (No.3) — $3.80 / $1.70 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.85x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Unionista (No.10) — $6.00 / $2.15 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.8% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.19x
Why She's got the map and the ability to be there for the finish, and the price gives her a shot.
Roughie: Mind Battlefield (No.7) — $9.20 / $2.60 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.45x
Why Big place upside, and if traffic breaks for him late, he can jump into the first three.
Race type: BENCHMARK 58, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so it's about who finds a position, then picks the right moment to run.
Punty read: In a slow 1600m, the danger is overthinking it. You want a horse that can travel comfortably and still sprint when the others are starting to guess. Proper Twelve is the obvious leader style, and he's the one you trust in this sort of tempo. Around him, Mrs Bull and Proclivity both look like they can slot into the right rhythm. Aoife is the value angle for a reason, she's got a real "if the pace wobbles, I'm in" feel.
Top 3 + Roughie ($16.50 pool)
1. Proper Twelve (No.13) — $3.20 / $1.55 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 21.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.94x
Why Slow tempo, but he has the engine to keep rolling and not get swallowed.
2. Mrs Bull (No.5) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.01x
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Proclivity (No.2) — $6.00 / $2.25 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 68.9% | Value: 1.02x
Why She's live for the money, but I'm not paying extra when the pace can bunch.
Roughie: Aoife (No.6) — $10.00 / $3.20 🏆 WINNER
Bet $6.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$13.20
Prob 10.2% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.39x
Why This is the kind of race where a value runner can pop late, especially if the front run gets cluttered.
Race type: BENCHMARK 58, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, this is a proper sprint where position can decide everything.
Punty read: 1100m on Good 4 and genuine pace means you've gotta respect the on-pacers. Talakai looks like a live speed play, Our Emily has the right type of profile to grind home, and Nor Nor West is the one the market loves for a reason. But Our Emily is the value sweet spot here, because she can sit in the sweet spot and then keep running when the field compresses.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.50 pool)
1. Nor Nor West (No.3) — $3.25 / $1.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet $7.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$16.88
Prob 20.2% | Place: 60.2% | Value: 0.79x
Why If he jumps and finds the right part of the track, he's hard to run down.
2. Talakai (No.4) — $6.50 / $2.40 🏆 2ND
Bet $5.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$7.00
Prob 18.9% | Place: 61.0% | Value: 1.17x
Why Speed is there, but I'm not pushing him as the lead act with Our Emily in the picture.
3. Our Emily (No.9) — $4.80 / $1.95 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.9% | Place: 56.6% | Value: 1.60x
Why She's the value runner that can lift late, especially if the tempo doesn't fully rip.
Roughie: Adviser (No.13) — $12.00 / $3.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.7% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.80x
Why He needs everything to set up, but if it does, he can hit the board and cause trouble.
Race type: BENCHMARK 66, 1300m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace. This is where being forward helps, then it's about who can sustain when the leaders start to tire.
Punty read: This one is pace versus pressure. Chestime is short because he's doing it right, but the key is who can sit close enough and still accelerate when the gaps appear. Zoucratic and Wanda River give you the value angle, with Wanda River in particular having that "run on through the finish" vibe. Glowing Rapids is the obvious roughie, because if he's still in the race with momentum at the top of the straight, he can surprise.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Chestime (No.8) — $3.50 / $1.62 🏆 3RD
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 17.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.62x
Why He's got the right kind of speed and he looks like he'll keep fighting when others start to flatten.
2. Zoucratic (No.10) — $5.50 / $2.15 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.05x
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Wanda River (No.6) — $8.60 / $2.75 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.7% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.16x
Why She's the value runner with the ability to keep improving late when the field stretches.
Roughie: Glowing Rapids (No.1) — $9.20 / $2.75 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 0.99x
Why If the front holds a little longer than expected, he can sneak into the finish like a cat landing on its feet.
Race type: CLASS 1, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with pressure, so the right run position early matters a stack.
Punty read: This is chaos by design. With a bunch of pace in play, you're chasing the one that can either sit right on it or pounce off it without losing momentum. Smart Scud looks like the sort that can run a full race and give you value. I'm A Beaut is short enough to be dangerous, Inyun has the trip to threaten late, and Mazort is the rough edge for the ones who love a late lift.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Smart Scud (No.4) — $9.00 / $3.00 🏆 4TH
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 14.4% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.51x
Why Roughie guard spotter, he's got the pace-friendly running style and a clean late kick.
2. I'm A Beaut (No.11) — $3.00 / $1.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.52x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Inyun (No.10) — $8.20 / $2.60 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 56.5% | Value: 1.17x
Why The map suits him, and he's a sneaky place or win if the race cracks.
Roughie: Mazort (No.12) — $7.00 / $2.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.90x
Why Wide open race means the late lift can do serious damage, and Mazort is built for that.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 13,2,5,6 / 4,3,9 / 8,10,6,1 / 10,11,4,12 (192 combos x $0.21 = $40.96) -- 21% flexi
The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.
1 - Quaint (Race 1, No.3) — $2.92
2 - Media Spin (Race 2, No.2)✗ — $3.30
3 - The Beast (Race 3, No.4)✗ — $3.65

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Narromine is serving up a classic mix of "banker energy" and "one bloke will absolutely throw a brick on a roughie".
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Narromine, 1100m-1600m card
Rail: +4m 900m-300m, True Remainder
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play fair, mostly speed and clean timing)
Weather: Sunny, 27°C, nil rain, watch for gusts (nothing wet to save the pretenders, so pace matters)
Early lane guess: Quaddie legs R4-7, but Race 1 and 2 can hijack the party
Tempo profile: A few races with genuine tempo, especially the middle trips, with sprinty finishes on a good surface.
Jockeys to follow:
Jake Pracey-Holmes: when he's on a live one, he can drag them through.
Braith Nock: quick to get position, and he usually makes it count late.
Donovan Dillon: nails the patient runs when the pace looks right.
Stables to respect:
Brett Robb (2 runners): he brings them on and has them ready when the market turns.
Connie Greig (2 runners): not flashy, just consistent, and she hits with the right map.
Brett Thompson (3 runners): often has the "how the hell did that win" runners in the finish.
Punty's take:
Alright legends, this is one of those Narromine cards where Good 4 means you can't hide. If a horse is trapped back and the speed doesn't collapse, you're basically doing the long walk to the TAB every time.
Race 1 is a maiden but it's got tempo, and the market favourite is getting a lot of airtime for a reason. I still like the value angle on a couple that can land on the right part of the track. Race 2 is where the pace picture starts swinging, Media Spin profiles as the kind of runner that gets the run, then takes the gaps like it's stealing lollies from a mate's pocket.
Then Race 3, we're getting straight to business. The Beast is the sort of front-running talent that turns "might be good" into "here you go" if he jumps and holds the line. After that, it's a proper punting sequence day, but I'm keeping it sensible. The BIG 3 spine is tight enough to give you a chance, while the lanes let you flex for the chaos you're inevitably gonna cause.
What it means for you:
Be aggressive early in the way Punters do it best, with Each Way value and Place leverage, because Narromine on Good 4 is usually kinder to horses that run through the line rather than those searching for late miracle space. I'm backing the races where the pace helps the selection, and I'm saving the real cash for where the map and the market story line up.
For your betting plan:
- Get your money in around the sharp-pace races, especially the sprinty ones and the genuine-tempo events.
- In the quaddies (R4 to R7), keep the legs wide where the field opens up, but don't turn it into a charity raffle.
- If you're chasing the big dividend, you do it through the lanes, not by guessing random winners.
