For all of Punty's tips for Queanbeyan, head to https://punty.ai/tips/queanbeyan-2026-03-21

Rightio Loose Units, Queanbeyan's coughed up a Soft 7 with showers hanging around like a bad sequel, and this card has got a proper slippery feel to it - a bit of speed, a bit of slog, and a quaddie that could either sing like Springsteen or belt you over the head with a folding chair.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Queanbeyan, 1000-2000m card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 7 (expected to play to handy/on-pace runners who can hold a spot)
Weather: Showers, stormy and windy - showers, 19C, humidity 72%, gusts up to 31.5km/h, feels like 14.6C (watch for late rain and a bit of chop in the straight)
Early lane guess: True rail, but with this weather I want horses that can sit close without getting bailed up on the fence
Tempo profile: A mixed bag - the sprints and middle trips should reward clean map horses, while the maidens have a few proper tempo puzzles
Jockeys to follow:
Billy Owen — keeps popping up on horses with live maps and he's got a few chances that can land in the first four without burning petrol
Damon Budler — rides plenty of the day’s better-positioned runners and can make a soft tempo look a hell of a lot easier
Jack Martin — on a stack of the meeting's workable runs, especially the ones drawing to get a trouble-free ride
Stables to respect:
J M Cleary (multiple runners) — has a big hand in the maidens and the market keeps sniffing around his team
Greg Stephens (multiple runners) — gets a couple of the day’s key map horses and the stable’s got live chances in the right races
G P Vella (multiple runners) — has runners with genuine pace and wet-track intent; when his team maps well, they usually show up

Punty's take:

This is the sort of day where the track can turn into a bit of a wet sponge by the middle races, so I’m not interested in heroes trying to weave through traffic from the back unless they’ve got a real launch pad. On a Soft 7 with the rail true, handy runners who can hold their position and get first crack are the ones you want in your corner. It’s not a brutal leader’s track as such, but if you’re three and four wide in the wind, mate, you’re basically doing a marathon in thongs.

The maidens are where the chaos lives, especially with a few first-starters and gear tweaks, but the better races have a pretty clear shape. Race 4 and Race 6 look like the proper punting battlegrounds - one is a tempo-and-position scrap, the other has enough speed to make the race collapse if the leaders get greedy. Race 5 is the sneaky little 1000m dart where the right map wins the argument, and Race 7 is the classic "can the favourite do the job or is the market getting a bit cute?" setup. Feels like one of those afternoons where the tote can move like a game of hot potato if the weather keeps bullying the field.

What it means for you:

Don’t get sucked into the shiny shorties if the map is doing weird stuff. I want horses that can settle in the first half, get cover, and peel at the right time - especially in the quaddie legs where the open races can chew through the bankroll like a hungry Labrador.

Your best bet is to anchor around the races where the map lines up with the form, then protect the uglier legs with coverage. Race 2 and Race 6 are the sort of bets where a tidy little extra runner can save your arse, while Race 4 and Race 7 can be played a bit firmer because the story reads cleaner. If you're playing exotics, don't try and be a genius in every leg - let the right horses do the heavy lifting and use the value to make the ticket worth the punt.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Entirely Oak (Race 5, No.2) — $3.10
Why Maps to lead, gets the run of the race, and in this grade you don't want to be giving away cheap kicks up front.
2 - Geostorm (Race 6, No.5) — $3.60
Why Genuine pace race suits the old warrior, and if he lands in his usual rolling rhythm, they’ll need to be good to run him down.
3 - Prophet Time (Race 7, No.2) — $3.20
Why Gets the right setup from a decent draw in a race where the map looks perfect for an on-pace grinder.
Multi (all three to win): $10 x ~35.71 = ~$357.12 collect

Race 1 - Allbids Plate

Race type: C1, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, with Hard Grunt and Feedback shaping as the key players and a couple of backmarkers needing luck
Punty read: Feedback is the one they’ve come for in the market, but the drift says the punters have had a bit of a wobble, which is never ideal when you're trying to trust a short one. Hard Grunt draws beautifully to land handy and does look the one most likely to get every chance, while Delago Serg is the honest old bugger that keeps turning up and can hang around for the money if the speed isn't brutal. Suspicious Time is the blowout - if the tempo goes on and the front half gets silly, this bloke can roll over the top late like a sleep-deprived zombie in a Marvel movie.

Top 3 + Roughie ($25 pool)

1. Feedback (No.2) — $2.06 / $1.13
Prob 29.3% | Place: 73.5% | Value: 0.77x
Bet $12.50 Place, return $14.12
Why Has the class edge in the book and the right fitness base, but the market shove has gone the wrong way - still, if he settles somewhere near the first four, he’s the one to beat.
2. Hard Grunt (No.5) — $2.70 / $1.25
Prob 23.7% | Place: 66.1% | Value: 0.82x
Bet $9.50 Place, return $11.88
Why Drawn to do no work and the map gives him every possible chance to stalk the speed and get the last shot.
3. Suspicious Time (No.7) — $19.00 / $2.20
Prob 11.9% | Place: 40.5% | Value: 2.88x
Bet $3.00 Place, return $6.60
Why The roughie with a real path - if the leaders roll and the race gets a bit threadbare late, he’s the one nipping at ankles.

Roughie: Delago Serg (No.1) — $14.00 / $2.20
Prob 16.1% | Place: 51.5% | Value: 2.88x
Bet No Bet
Why The map is friendly, he’s been around the traps, and if the track starts to favour the brave inside runners he's the sort that can keep finding.

Degenerate Exotic of the Race

Exacta: 1, 2 — $15
Why Hard Grunt and Feedback look the two most likely to control the race between them, and if one of them doesn’t get there the whole exacta gets ripped up like a bad pub tab.

Race 2 - Robyn Shires Memorial

Race type: Bm58, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so position is everything - the on-pace runners get first crack and the swoopers need a miracle and a prayer
Punty read: This is a classic slow-run sprint where everyone wants to be the smartest dog in the yard. Smashing Lulu resumes with a nice first-up record and the blinkers on the jockey’s back-pocket kind of vibe says they mean business, while Royal Memory is the obvious danger but looks a bit skinny for a race that could get tactical and weird. Walk Up Start is the smoky with the right map if they crawl, and Magic Bertie has been pinged in the market like someone at the front bar just saw a tenner on the floor.

Top 3 + Roughie ($25 pool)

1. Smashing Lulu (No.3) — $8.00 / $2.15
Prob 20.0% | Place: 55.8% | Value: 1.79x
Bet $15.50 Win, return $124.00
Why Fresh horse with a decent resuming profile and the sort of tempo where a clean run can make them look a lot better than the price suggests.
2. Royal Memory (No.6) — $2.86 / $1.37
Prob 19.0% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 0.61x
Bet No Bet
Why Honest enough type, but the market has him a shade too tight and the map doesn't hand him a free ride.
3. Walk Up Start (No.7) — $8.50 / $2.70
Prob 13.4% | Place: 41.3% | Value: 1.27x
Bet $9.50 Place, return $25.65
Why If they dawdle, this is the one that can lob into a stalking spot and pinch a cheeky cheque.

Roughie: Magic Bertie (No.8) — $13.00 / $1.40
Prob 19.6% | Place: 55.1% | Value: 2.86x
Bet No Bet
Why He’s the naughty little market mover in the race, and if the fresh legs and gate 1 do the trick he can land right on top of them.

Degenerate Exotic of the Race

Trifecta Standout: 3 / 8, 6, 7 — $15
Why The race shapes like a chess match, so anchoring Smashing Lulu and letting Magic Bertie, Royal Memory and Walk Up Start fight for the minors is the cleanest way to skin it.

Race 3 - Music Time Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, with Raining Violets the map horse but a couple of the others having enough tactical speed to keep it honest
Punty read: Raining Violets looks the one they all have to run down, but she's short enough that you’d want the race to go exactly to script and not one inch more. Zippy Argento is the one with the value shape - firming in the market and sitting in the right kind of lane to get the last crack. The Glen has been around the block a few times and can plug away for a placing, while King's Exceed is the absolute roughie with a giant price tag and the kind of profile that makes you mutter "surely not" and then back it anyway if you're feeling loose.

Top 3 + Roughie ($25 pool)

1. Raining Violets (No.8) — $2.16 / $1.55
Prob 30.5% | Place: 57.5% | Value: 0.75x
Bet $17.50 Win, return $37.80
Why Has the best recent profile in the field and if she jumps cleanly she gets every chance to control the race from the right position.
2. Zippy Argento (No.4) — $6.00 / $2.10
Prob 28.4% | Place: 54.8% | Value: 1.94x
Bet $7.50 Place, return $15.75
Why The market has started to wake up and the way this race maps says he can run into it late if the front half doesn't get away with murder.
3. The Glen (No.3) — $3.10 / $1.50
Prob 21.6% | Place: 44.2% | Value: 0.76x
Bet No Bet
Why Nice enough in the map and can be right there turning for home, but this setup feels more like a place run than a proper kill shot.

Roughie: King's Exceed (No.1) — $41.00 / $5.00
Prob 5.1% | Place: 11.7% | Value: 2.40x
Bet No Bet
Why Massive price, but if the leaders run around like headless chooks and the favourite gets cluttered up, this is the one that can sneak into the picture.

Degenerate Exotic of the Race

Exacta: 4, 8 — $15
Why Raining Violets and Zippy Argento look the pair to beat and if the order is right you’re laughing; if it isn’t, you’re probably swearing at the sky and pretending it was always a throwaway.

Race 4 - TAB Race Boost Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1460m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, with Closethedoordarcy the best map horse and the others needing the right spots to avoid getting strung up
Punty read: This is a proper position race. Closethedoordarcy gets the sweet lane and should get the right kind of run to make a nuisance of himself, while Mr Usher is the grinder who can get a soft enough trip and finish the job if the race turns into a crawl. Passing Through is the one the market loves, but the short price doesn't exactly scream "free money" in a race where the map could get messy, and Brume De Soliel is the roughie with the sort of late-run profile that can clatter into the placings if they overdo it upfront.

Top 3 + Roughie ($25 pool)

1. Closethedoordarcy (No.6) — $6.65 / $1.20
Prob 24.2% | Place: 63.9% | Value: 1.96x
Bet $16.00 Win, return $106.40
Why Drawn to get the exact sort of run you want in a slow-run maiden - no drama, no excuses, just first crack when they straighten up.
2. Passing Through (No.9) — $1.90 / $1.17
Prob 17.6% | Place: 52.1% | Value: 0.41x
Bet No Bet
Why The talent is there, but the price is way too skinny for a runner that may have to do it the hard way from out there.
3. Mr Usher (No.1) — $7.25 / $1.95
Prob 16.7% | Place: 50.1% | Value: 1.48x
Bet $9.00 Place, return $17.55
Why A decent enough map horse with some gear fiddling that says the stable is trying to wake him up for a clean trip.

Roughie: Brume De Soliel (No.5) — $11.50 / $2.30
Prob 18.4% | Place: 53.7% | Value: 2.58x
Bet No Bet
Why If they roll along a touch harder than expected, this one can sweep late and make a proper mess of the exotics.

Degenerate Exotic of the Race

Exacta Standout: 6 / 5, 9, 1 — $15
Why Closethedoordarcy looks the best anchored play in the race, with Mr Usher and Brume De Soliel the ones most likely to climb into the exacta if the tempo gets sticky.

Race 5 - Queanbeyan Blues Season Launch Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, with speed on the map and a few runners trying to muscle their way forward
Punty read: This is the little 1000m speedie where the cleanest map usually wins the argument. Entirely Oak will try to control it, but the value angles sit a bit wider - Stormy Woo is the one with the right sort of pace help even from the ugly gate, Hellcat is the honest on-speed type who can hang on for the minors, and Patrizia is the roughie that wants them to overcook it and come back late like a drunken Batman. The market's been all over Reds Express and Bellacapo, but I'm not letting those plots bully me into a bad bet if the map doesn't line up.

Top 3 + Roughie ($20 pool)

1. Entirely Oak (No.2) — $3.10 / $1.60
Prob 24.1% | Place: 62.2% | Value: 0.94x
Bet $10.50 Each Way (=$5.25W + $5.25P), return $32.55 (wins) / $16.80 (places)
Why Can lead, can control, and in a little sprint like this that counts for a stack - gets first shot and makes everyone else chase.
2. Stormy Woo (No.3) — $8.00 / $3.30
Prob 17.0% | Place: 49.3% | Value: 1.71x
Bet $6.50 Place, return $21.45
Why The map says the race should suit, and if the pace gets genuine this bloke can be steaming home with a wet sail.
3. Hellcat (No.5) — $14.00 / $4.40
Prob 11.3% | Place: 35.7% | Value: 1.99x
Bet $3.00 Place, return $13.20
Why The old cat has enough early toe to hold a spot and enough grit to cling on if the front runners start feeling the pinch.

Roughie: Patrizia (No.11) — $20.00 / $5.50
Prob 10.1% | Place: 32.3% | Value: 2.52x
Bet No Bet
Why If the speed goes mad and the leaders start paddling, she’s the one that can sneak into the finish when everyone else is blowing like a busted mower.

Degenerate Exotic of the Race

Exacta: 2, 11 — $15
Why Entirely Oak and Patrizia are the two that can shape the race, and if the rough one gets a fair crack off the speed it pays to be alive to the upset.

Race 6 - Catbird 1999

Race type: Bm50, 1460m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, and this one should be run properly - no picnic, no loafing
Punty read: This is the race where the map matters a lot. Geostorm is the natural boss-type and can stride out with the pace on, Rager has the right draw and the right kind of run to sit in the slipstream, and Tillman is the one you can forgive a bit if the tempo gets hot because he’s battle-hardened enough to stick his nose in the fight. Gwennybegg is the huge roughie that’s had the cash like someone found a lost wallet, but the weight shift and the historical pattern say tread carefully unless you’re feeling like a complete menace.

Top 3 + Roughie ($24.50 pool)

1. Geostorm (No.5) — $3.60 / $1.37
Prob 26.8% | Place: 68.7% | Value: 1.21x
Bet $14.00 Each Way (=$7.00W + $7.00P), return $50.40 (wins) / $19.18 (places)
Why Genuine pace suits him to the ground and he’s the sort that can roll along and make the others chase his tail.
2. Rager (No.2) — $5.00 / $1.75
Prob 21.7% | Place: 61.0% | Value: 1.35x
Bet $7.00 Place, return $12.25
Why Nice draw, decent setup, and enough map softness to make him a serious player in the finish.
3. Tillman (No.7) — $5.50 / $1.40
Prob 17.4% | Place: 52.7% | Value: 1.20x
Bet $3.50 Place, return $4.90
Why He’s the sort of tough campaigner that can sit a shade closer than most and still be there when the whips are cracking.

Roughie: Gwennybegg (No.6) — $21.00 / $4.20
Prob 10.7% | Place: 35.9% | Value: 2.81x
Bet No Bet
Why Massive market sniff, but she’s the wild card - if the tempo goes nuclear and she gets the right trail, she can blow the place pool apart.

Degenerate Exotic of the Race

Trifecta Standout: 5 / 2, 7, 6 — $15
Why Geostorm looks the one to anchor with the speed map in his corner, while Rager, Tillman and the market mover Gwennybegg are the ones most likely to jag the placings if the race runs to script.

Race 7 - TAB Takeover

Race type: Bm50, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, with Prophet Time and Zeema shaping as the key on-speed runners
Punty read: Prophet Time is the proper anchor - right sort of map, right sort of race, and the stable has tinkered with the gear in a way that says they want him sharp. Oh What A Knight has been pinged in the market and maps to get the right run, which is exactly the sort of thing you like in these little 1000m knife-fights. Zeema is the favourite and obviously the one they all have to beat, but the price is a bit rich for my blood when the map isn't handing out free kicks, and Call Me Artie is the old warrior drifter who’d need the race to turn into a slog to have a real shot.

Top 3 + Roughie ($25 pool)

1. Prophet Time (No.2) — $3.20 / $1.35
Prob 33.3% | Place: 60.6% | Value: 1.28x
Bet $19.00 Win, return $60.80
Why The gear tweak plus the map says this is his race to lose - should land in the right spot and get every chance to put them away.
2. Oh What A Knight (No.7) — $7.75 / $2.20
Prob 24.2% | Place: 48.4% | Value: 2.26x
Bet $6.00 Place, return $13.20
Why Been the subject of proper money and the way this race sets up means he can get over the top of them late if the leaders don't go too daffy.
3. Zeema (No.4) — $2.35 / $1.25
Prob 20.6% | Place: 42.5% | Value: 0.58x
Bet No Bet
Why The short one, but the map is not quite the cushy picnic you'd want at this price and that's enough for me to cool the jets.

Roughie: Call Me Artie (No.1) — $7.25 / $2.26
Prob 12.0% | Place: 26.3% | Value: 1.05x
Bet No Bet
Why Big drift tells its own story, but if the front pair overdo it and the old boy gets a soft trail, he can hang around for a slice.

Degenerate Exotic of the Race

Exacta: 7, 2 — $15
Why Oh What A Knight is the blowout value angle, Prophet Time is the map horse, and this exacta gives you the cleanest way to profit if the market gets it slightly wrong.

SEQUENCE LANES — SINGLE OPTIMISED TICKET

Quaddie (R4-7)

Smart: 6, 5, 9, 1 / 2, 3, 5, 11 / 5, 2, 7, 6 / 2, 7, 4 (192 combos x $0.10 = $20) — 10% flexi
A proper sweating-bucket quaddie: three messy legs and one cleaner one. You need to survive the mid-card chaos and let the last leg tidy up the mess, not the other way around.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - True rail, wet track, handy horses
On a Soft 7 with the rail true, you want runners that can sit in the first half and still quicken - the swoopers need luck, the leaders need manners, and the middle-ground horses are often the sweet spot.
2 - Market steam isn't the same as a free kick
Race 2 and Race 5 have had some proper money flying around, but the map still has to match the market. If the shape doesn't suit, a plunge is just a fancy way of lighting a dart on fire.
3 - The roughies are alive when the tempo gets cooked
Suspicious Time, King's Exceed and Gwennybegg all have a path if the race falls apart late. That's the sort of weird science that turns a boring card into a proper tote-ruining brawl.

THE DEGEN DEN

That’s the lot, legends - a wet-track day with a couple of bankers, a couple of sneaky value stabs, and a quaddie that’ll test the nerves like the final scene of Heat. If the market keeps spearing the right horses, we’ve got a live chance to throw a chair through the window and call it a nice afternoon. Gamble Responsibly.
