✗ MISS -$18 Final

Race type: MAIDEN, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Cheating Lilibet wants the front but the speed's not hostile
Punty read:
This is a sprint where being in the right postcode matters. Cheating Lilibet's the one who'll force the issue early, but Fratianno's got the ability and the price profile that screams "win, then stop quickly." Maiden races on Soft 5 can produce weird gaps, so you want the horse that can actually handle the first two turns cleanly, not the one that needs a miracle late.

Punty read:
This looks like a proper "place a board and cover the dangers" race. Konomie's the one with the most believable route to the top, while Raguel is the danger that might just sit closer than you think and grab the right run into the straight. Love Goddess is there for the place lane, and the price says punters are trying to be too clever.

Punty read:
At 1600m you get more time for horses to settle, but in Class 1 you still want a runner who can move without getting trapped. Surpasser maps well and looks like it can carry its speed through the soft ground. Ordinary Angel sits in that sweet spot of on-pacing intent, while Kowloon Magnate has enough place upside to not be ignored if the race scrambles late.

2000m on Soft 5 and a slow tempo means you'll get big, late finishing surges if the leaders don't let them all come out in one wave. Exorbitant Miss has the momentum to hit the line with authority, Dark Justice is the live danger, and Lone Star Dream is the sort that might run into a place split if the race opens up.

1400m is one of those distances where if you're too far back, Soft 5 makes it costly. I Am Steffi maps to sit close, take the pressure, and then run through the line. Sirsa Nuwa's a straight-up danger because it's got the kind of pattern where it can stick and keep fighting. Mosgiel Crystal gives you place and maybe more if the race doesn't get dominated early.

This is sprint gambling at its finest. Shaggy at $1.95 is either a banker, or it's the trap where everyone gets lazy. But Shaggy's got map support and the kind of profile that usually makes them hold their ground late in the straight. The Piccolino is the value play for a place lane, Debussy is the type who can sneak into the trifecta if things go sideways, and Angara's a speed threat who can't be written off.

This is one of those races where the "obvious" favourite might not get a solo run, but still wins because it's classy enough to find the better section of the track. Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Taree on a Soft 5 with the rail doing what it does best, setup the scene for a card where speed matters early and the value waits late in the day. My spine's already built, my sanity's already questionable, and today we're chasing winners, not vibes.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Taree, 1000m-2000m card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 5 (expected to play a touch rain-soft, keep an eye on footing and barriers)
Weather: Mostly clear, 10°C, humidity 87%, wind 0km/h N (no fresh rain, so it's "carry speed" not "save for later")
Early lane guess: Speed on
Tempo profile: Genuine to moderate early, then a bit of jostling as the fields stack up
Jockeys to follow:
Zac Wadick: throws his weight around in the sprints, gets them into the right spots early
Grant Buckley: fearless from awkward runs, usually finds a pocket that pays
Ms Liberty Smyth: rides like she's allergic to being covered up, especially on the early pace types
Stables to respect:
Colt Prosser (5 runners): lots of youngsters primed, and they're not scared of straight-up market support
T S Howlett (2 runners): keeps hitting with the on-pace structures, and knows when to strike
Glen Milligan (2 runners): the late-day profiles are always worth a look, especially when the race shape suits

Punty's take:

This meeting feels like it has two gears: early races reward the horse who can hold their rhythm, and the later stuff is where the "held up then ran on" types get their redemption arc. Soft 5 at Taree can be sneaky, but if they're genuine leaders or proper on-pacers, you're usually not far off the money.

Race 1 is screaming "short price for a reason" with Fratianno, but don't be shocked if the race gets played slightly wider than you think, because maiden fields on wetish footing love chaos once they get into the first turn. Then we step into Race 6 where the sprint pattern is king, and the market favourite is either the right call or the trap. Today I'm siding with the favourite.

What it means for you:

Get aggressive where the race shape is clean. That means backing Win with your top pick horses in the spots that match their map, not where they look like they'll be doing 3D chess from back in the field. For the tricky races, protect with place where the value is there, and save the "fun roughie" energy for the right kind of risk, not the cooked kind.

Here's the spine: Fratianno, Shaggy, and The Magic Man. If those three do their job, the rest of the day turns into "add the exotics if you've got the cheek" rather than "what the hell happened".
