Rightio Loose Units, Tuncurry on a Soft 7 is basically a mud-bath rom-com, every runner getting a second chance to be legends.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Tuncurry, 1000m-1600m card
Rail: +1m 400m - 300m, True Remainder
Official going: Soft 7 (expected to play speed vs who can handle the kick)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 15°C, humidity 86%, light NW breeze, watch for rain that never quite turns up (but makes everyone race like it might)
Early lane guess: Quieter lanes early, then the wide stuff starts paying in the later chaos races
Tempo profile: Slow early pace, then a genuine shuffle in the mid-card, sprints later get messy fast
Jockeys to follow:
Zac Wadick: lands on the pace maps and actually holds the line when it matters.
Ben Looker: can steal a positioning run and make it look easy.
Ashley Morgan: gets horses into the race, especially when the track has that slippery 'hold me' feel.
Stables to respect:
P Cheers (1 runner): knows how to keep them in the contest, even when the form reads rude.
Brett & Georgie Cavanough (2 runners): their mid-card sprinters love it when the ground gets a touch sticky.
Annabel & Rob Archibald (2 runners): takes their time, then unleashes late when you're still staring at the wrong part of the track.

Punty's take:

Alright legends, Soft 7 at Tuncurry usually means one thing, the race gets decided by who can handle the hit in the first half and still have a gear left at the finish. When the tempo's slow, the stalkers get to play chess, but when you get a proper pace, you want to be on the speed or you'll be doing the post-race "why did I take that option" speech.

The big story across the day is that the market is swinging hard in a heap of races, and it's doing it with confidence. When the price firms up and the map says the horse can track the tempo, you back it. When a horse is short but fights the pace, you get value elsewhere, because S7 rewards intent and movement, not vibes.

For me, the spine is tight early. After that, we ride the chaos where it's actually been lined up to pay you back, not just to donate your money to the void.

What it means for you:

Go aggressive in the races where the speed map and market support line up, that's where value shows up on the board as well as on paper. If you're waiting for "something to come", you'll miss the moment where the race breaks. That's how you end up reading stewards reports in your imagination.

For protection, keep the place plays in your head where the winner isn't guaranteed to go straight, but the horse is likely to run honest all the way. The roughies are there for one thing, when the speed collapses or the leaders get smothered, you want a runner that can sweep into the gaps and make the tote smile.

Now let's print the spine and get stuck in.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Pelosa (Race 1, No.6) — $2.13
Why Midfield, but on Soft 7 she's got the type of kick that reaches the line.
2 - Fratianno (Race 2, No.3) — $1.91
Why Maiden, but the pace story and early fitness signal screams "go close".
3 - Kiss Of Gold (Race 3, No.7) — $1.60
Why This one maps like a leader who can actually keep going, even if the race gets sticky.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~7.00 = ~$70.00 collect

Race 1 – Forster Bowling Club Plate (C1)

Race type: CLASS 1, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, Cannystep and The Comanche have the pace advantage, so watch the stalkers roll forward.
Punty read: Pelosa looks the goods, she's drawn well, and when the race doesn't sprint early, you want a runner who can sit midfield, then travel into the real work. The Comanche is the market heartthrob, but when the tempo's soft, those shorties have to do all the hard work without getting shuffled out. Cannystep can run into the trip if she settles clean, Creative Righteous is the danger because her form hints she's capable of turning interference into momentum. And yeah, Soft 7 helps horses that keep their rhythm rather than those that need everything to be perfect.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Pelosa (No.6) — $2.13 / $1.70
Bet $15.00 Win, return $31.95
Prob 35.9% | Place: 63.5% | Value: 1.30x
Why Drawn to save ground, and she's built for the soft track hit, then keeps running.

2. The Comanche (No.4) — $1.90 / $1.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.9% | Place: 52.6% | Value: 0.71x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Creative Righteous (No.2) — $2.83 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.5% | Place: 44.2% | Value: 0.93x
Why Market's backed it and the horse can run a race, but value isn't swinging enough for a win play here.

Roughie: Follow That Dream (No.8) — $11.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 19.1% | Value: 1.48x
Why If the pace truly melts and she finds the gaps, she can run on, but in this setup I'm not insuring.

Race 2 – Thank You To All The TFJC Volunteers Country Boosted Mdn Hcp

Race type: MAIDEN, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, In Bocca Al Lupe and Rips Law have early zip, so it might not be a walk.
Punty read: Fratianno is the one I want in this, she's got the market attention for a reason and she should get a run that doesn't kill her early. Miners Mate is my value-style pick because he's the sort that can roll forward and then keep hitting the line, even when the race shapes up into a sprint. Elton's drifting a bit, so he's more of a "watch and hope" vibe. In Bocca Al Lupe has that on-pacer profile, but soft run stories in maidens can go either way if they're not switched on early.

Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)

1. Fratianno (No.3) — $1.91 / $1.12
Bet $20.00 Win, return $38.20
Prob 37.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.26x
Why Solid early speed and the kind of maiden run that ends with a finish, not a fade.

2. Miners Mate (No.5) — $3.20 / $1.37
Bet $4.00 Place, return $5.48
Prob 27.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.24x
Why If they run it moderately, he's there for the long sprint to the line, and place is the sweet spot at this price.

3. In Bocca Al Lupe (No.4) — $7.20 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 0.88x
Why Needs luck in the run, and the way this field goes, place prices can get thin fast.

Roughie: Elton (No.2) — $10.80 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.26x
Why He can run on, but I'm not spreading out when the top two should be doing the heavy work.

Race 3 – Buy Your Kosciuszko Tickets Mdn Plate

Race type: MAIDEN, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Bobby and What A Gent are forward types, so the race should have some pace on.
Punty read: This is Kiss Of Gold's race to lose. When there's real pace, it stops the kicksters from having it all their own way, and Kiss Of Gold looks built to sit in the right spot and then keep rolling through the slog. Strasbelle is the value threat, and I like that she can run a long way on Soft 7 without losing her rhythm. What A Gent is live, but you don't back horses that look like they need everything to go right, because 1400m Soft 7 eats those plans alive.

Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)

1. Kiss Of Gold (No.7) — $1.60 / $1.15
Bet $17.00 Win, return $27.20
Prob 48.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.08x
Why Loves the tempo, gets the right stalking trip, and she's the most likely to stick the landing at 1400m.

2. Strasbelle (No.10) — $3.95 / $1.62
Bet $5.00 Place, return $8.10
Prob 16.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.18x
Why Place is where she pays, she's been consistent enough to run a cheeky race in a genuine tempo.

3. What A Gent (No.4) — $8.95 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 0.69x
Why Big price risk, and I'd rather back the ones that look like they'll be on the premises.

Roughie: Bobby (No.2) — $13.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.4% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.84x
Why If the pace gets held up and he sneaks into clear galloping room, he can swoop, but that's a set-up play.

Race 4 – Lakes And Ocean Super Mdn Plate

Race type: MAIDEN, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, and the whole field's basically a highlight reel.
Punty read: Pomelo Chamomile is top of the list for a reason, she's got the strongest fit for the way this race is likely to run. Cosmic Jive is the leader type, and if he gets a clean run, he'll be tough to get by. Qui Rouge is the one that can hold a spot, and Cool Art looks like a roughy that can run on through the chaos. Love You Anyway is the sort of horse that keeps finding the line, but at this sprint distance on Soft 7 you need the stumble factor to go your way.

Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)

1. Pomelo Chamomile (No.14) — $2.90 / $1.45
Bet $20.00 Win, return $58.00
Prob 33.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.17x
Why Soft 7 sprints are about action and balance, and she's built to do the right part of the race.

2. Cosmic Jive (No.8) — $3.25 / $1.55
Bet $4.00 Place, return $6.20
Prob 15.9% | Place: 67.2% | Value: 0.69x
Why If the speed gets slightly stretched, he's the type to hang on and grab a prize on the line.

3. Qui Rouge (No.6) — $6.20 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 40.2% | Value: 0.71x
Why He can be there, but I don't love the price structure around a sprint on Soft 7.

Roughie: Cool Art (No.11) — $11.50 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.33x
Why If she gets a gap and the leaders get bogged, she's got the last-hits-on-the-finish mode.

Race 5 – Club Forster Hcp (C1)

Race type: CLASS 1, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, plenty of speed in the race, so you want a horse that can actually hold it together.
Punty read: Issy's Star is right there as the main character, but I like the way Triple Yes and Dirty Does It sit in the overall speed picture. This is the kind of 1000m where the leader gets pressure early, then the race becomes a straight survival test. Don't is a value runner if they lose momentum, and The Warrior is the other one who keeps popping up in the right sections. Cool Az Aletta at that price is the "how is this even a chance" type, but I'm sticking to the cleaner path with the picks assigned.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Issy's Star (No.1) — $2.28 / $1.60
Bet $15.00 Win, return $34.20
Prob 23.6% | Place: 67.9% | Value: 0.98x
Why Backing a straight-line sprinter on a Soft track when the class lines up, she's the safest way to get paid today.

2. Triple Yes (No.4) — $3.33 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.6% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 1.13x
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Dirty Does It (No.8) — $3.33 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.89x
Why I'd rather press the favourite and the next strong place route, not chase the middle at this distance.

Roughie: Don't (No.2) — $12.00 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.85x
Why Needs the leaders to stop pretending and start running, but if that happens, he can sprint through the cracks.

Race 6 – Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club Country Boosted (Bm58)

Race type: BENCHMARK 58, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Damascus Gate is out there and others press, so it won't be a soft sit.
Punty read: This is a wide-open benchmark where the right one gets to stay balanced through the middle stages. Mosgiel Crystal is my pick to get the job done for the chaos, she's got the profile to run on and still hit the line hard. Damascus Gate is the danger, he's been right in this grade and could absolutely control a chunk of it. Dreymon is a sneaky threat if the race turns into a sprint home, Purple Kitty and Phoenix Power are the ones to keep in mind if the pace starts to wobble.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Mosgiel Crystal (No.10) — $5.00 / $1.95
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $26.25 (wins) / $10.24 (places)
Prob 13.5% | Place: 60.0% | Value: 0.93x
Why Suits the 1400m grind on Soft, and if the pace pressure keeps coming, she's built to keep fighting back.

2. Damascus Gate (No.1) — $6.20 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.9% | Place: 45.8% | Value: 1.10x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Dreymon (No.7) — $7.75 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.8% | Place: 45.6% | Value: 1.15x
Why Winning chance exists, but the place setup at this rank doesn't give me the comfort.

Roughie: Purple Kitty (No.9) — $9.40 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.07x
Why If she finds clear ground and the leaders start to stutter, she can land a blow late.

Race 7 – McQuillan Tuncurry Cup Prelude Hcp

Race type: OPEN HANDICAP, 1500m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Navy Steel and House Of Cards can be in the mix early, then it's about who stays composed.
Punty read: This is a classic handicap where the shape matters more than the script. Navy Steel is the one I'm trusting as the main speed-support in the finish. House Of Cards is the best sort of "danger" because he's got genuine recent runs and can lift when asked. Hibiki Harmony looks like she could get dragged into it, but she's not my first line. Tact has the upside for value reasons, and if the track goes a bit sticky, those middle-stage runners can absolutely come home like the last episode of your favourite series.

Top 3 + Roughie ($23.00 pool)

1. Navy Steel (No.6) — $2.15 / $1.52
Bet $19.50 Win, return $41.92
Prob 19.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.73x
Why He's in the right tempo zone and can keep going, even if the race tightens up in the straight.

2. House Of Cards (No.3) — $3.08 / $1.95
Bet $3.50 Place, return $6.83
Prob 19.5% | Place: 64.0% | Value: 1.03x
Why Place is the angle, he's the sort to park near the action and keep his nose clean through the finish.

3. Hibiki Harmony (No.5) — $3.08 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 60.9% | Value: 0.71x
Why The win is possible, but I'm not overpaying for third place in this chaos lane.

Roughie: Tact (No.8) — $9.00 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.28x
Why If the leaders get involved too early and the race stretches, he's the one that can run into the right section.

Race 8 – Australian Pearls - Pearl Evermore Bracelet (Bm74)

Race type: BENCHMARK 74, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Cresta Run and the forward crew should make this a proper sprint duel.
Punty read: Cresta Run is still the main show, and on a Soft track sprint, being close early usually decides who does the pretending to finish first. Altercation is a class-boosted threat and could run a huge chunk of the race. Grassburn has the profile to be in that second row where you can pounce when someone tires. Grey Effects is your danger if the race becomes a messy scramble, and Speck can absolutely take a piece if the leaders get too confident. But for me, Cresta Run is the one to beat, and Altercation is the price-risky threat.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Cresta Run (No.6) — $2.28 / $1.60
Bet $15.00 Win, return $34.20
Prob 19.5% | Place: 59.9% | Value: 0.64x
Why He's on-pace in the only way that matters at 1000m, and Soft 7 punishes the backmarkers hard.

2. Altercation (No.9) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 56.5% | Value: 1.33x
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Grassburn (No.10) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.9% | Place: 49.8% | Value: 1.11x
Why He can hit the line, but I'd rather keep money on the actual winner route.

Roughie: Grey Effects (No.5) — $9.00 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.7% | Place: 28.5% | Value: 0.99x
Why If the leaders fade and the race becomes a scramble for lanes, she can sneak into the money late.

SEQUENCE LANES

EARLY QUADDIE (R1–R4)

Smart: 6,4,2 / 3,5,4,2 / 7,10,4 / 14,8,6,11 (144 combos x $0.14 = $20.00) -- 14% flexi
Punty's take: Two tight legs early, then you widen hard in R4 where Soft 7 chaos likes to breed.

QUADDIE (R5–R8)

Smart: 1,4,8,2 / 10,1,7,9 / 6,3,5,8 / 6,9,10,5 (256 combos x $0.12 = $32.00) -- 12% flexi
Punty's take: Four legs of open-ish landings, good coverage, but it's still entertainment, you need the right runs to line up.

BIG 6 (R3–R8)

Smart: 7 / 14 / 1 / 10 / 6 / 6 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2.00) -- 200% flexi
Punty's take: Pure spine, no passengers. If any leg jolts, it's over, but if it lands, it'll feel filthy.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Soft 7 loves the "hold station, then pounce" runners
On slow-tempo races, Pelosa style trips win more often than straight-on leaders do.

2 - Watch for the price firmers that still sit on the pace map
When Cresta Run and Fratianno are being backed while they get the right early position, that's when you stop second guessing and start collecting.

3 - The 1000m chaos is always lane-shaped, not form-shaped
At Tuncurry, the sprints punish the ones who miss the first meaningful pocket, even if their recent form looks okay.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

You want a clean card, go bet something boring. You want winners and a few "how the hell did that win" moments, you bet the spine and let the chaos do its job. Now go get amongst it, and may your tickets be heavier than your regret. Gamble Responsibly.
