Punty's Punts
Race type: Benchmark 66, 2000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace. In Heavy 9, this becomes a "position + patience" marathon, not a sprint.
Punty read: Reel Crystal (No.7) just looks like she can handle the holding-on chaos, she's got the wet attitude and the run-on gear. Mr Tadashi (No.6) is the obvious market gun, but this is the sort of race where value can sit right next to him. County Kilkenny (No.3) gets a spot to improve, especially if traffic lets her go late.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Reel Crystal (No.7) — $2.36 / $1.82 🏆 4TH
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 37.4% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 1.10x
Why Wet-friendly, strong place chances, and she's built for the "get a run at the finish" script.
2. Mr Tadashi (No.6) — $2.75 / $1.50 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 39.9% | Value: 0.55x
Why He's the favourite for a reason, but this bet structure is screaming "don't duplicate short-priced win."
3. County Kilkenny (No.3) — $6.35 / $2.50 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.12x
Why More of a "run-on and surprise late" type in this setup, not a place to chase your losses.
Roughie: Star Blazer (No.2) — $18.25 / $4.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 1.12x
Why The path is real (places), but the model isn't letting you burn stake in a thin payout race shape.
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace. This is where the leader can literally set the wet-track tempo.
Punty read: Hold This (No.3) is the one that should get the race map, blinkers off first time and a leader profile means she's built to keep grinding. Hot Toddy (No.4) is the danger if she learns to use the track instead of fighting it. Distant Stripes (No.2) looks like the "off-and-on" runner that can still slot into the finish line because wet tracks reward rhythm.
Top 3 + Roughie ($17.50 pool)
1. Hold This (No.3) — $1.72 / $1.01 🏆 2ND
Bet $11.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$11.00
Prob 51.4% | Place: 95.0% | Value: 1.17x
Why Wet track + leader role + gear tweak = win posture.
2. Hot Toddy (No.4) — $3.73 / $1.17 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.6% | Place: 95.0% | Value: 0.91x
Why Place is priced like a short film, too tight to pay for the risk.
3. Distant Stripes (No.2) — $9.00 / $1.82 🏆 3RD
Bet $6.50 Place — ✓ Won, net +$5.33
Prob 14.9% | Place: 66.7% | Value: 0.95x
Why If the pace holds, she can be one of the first to capitalise late.
Roughie: Krasavitsa (No.9) — $17.50 / $2.20 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.3% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 0.94x
Why If it's not holding up front, her late impact is the only ticket, but we're not overcommitting.
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace. That's where the "late call" horses sharpen up.
Punty read: My Mate Elvis (No.4) is the pick because the race shape screams for a horse that can sit and then find something when the tempo changes. Rockabye Roxy (No.3) is thereabouts, she's the sort that can hit the line hard if traffic loosens up. The Ultimate Star (No.1) is a value place play because first-up winkers can turn "run hot" into "hold on."
Top 3 + Roughie ($21.50 pool)
1. My Mate Elvis (No.4) — $2.15 / $1.30 🏆 WINNER
Bet $9.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$13.30
Prob 39.4% | Place: 95.0% | Value: 1.10x
Why Slow tempo + wet conditions = sit-and-snipe win type.
2. Rockabye Roxy (No.3) — $3.52 / $1.60 🏆 2ND
Bet $9.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$6.30
Prob 16.9% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 0.79x
Why She can run into the placings even if the winner just edges her on the line.
3. The Ultimate Star (No.1) — $6.25 / $2.30 🏆 5TH
Bet $3.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$3.00
Prob 12.1% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 1.38x
Why Winkers on first time, if she travels, the wet doesn't stop her finishing.
Roughie: Tupelo Twist (No.2) — $12.10 / $3.60 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.2% | Place: 33.9% | Value: 0.90x
Why Roughie route is only there if the "slow pace turns into sprint" chaos hits right.
Race type: Maiden, 1000m
Map & tempo: Hot pace. Wet 1000m = speed holds until it doesn't.
Punty read: Who's Who (No.13) is your win anchor, this is exactly the type of race where a horse can control early and not get bullied late. Mount Ogilvie (No.2) is the place saver that can sneak into the top 3 if pressure softens. Speed Of Thought (No.9) is the value place play: tongue control and lugging bit first time can mean a sharper, cleaner finish.
Top 3 + Roughie ($17.00 pool)
1. Who's Who (No.13) — $2.98 / $1.35 🏆 WINNER
Bet $7.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$15.40
Prob 28.8% | Place: 66.7% | Value: 0.99x
Why Hot pace suits, he can keep a straight course and keep finding.
2. Mount Ogilvie (No.2) — $4.40 / $1.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $6.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$6.00
Prob 17.4% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 0.79x
Why Place-only for a reason, he's close enough to survive the heavy traffic.
3. Speed Of Thought (No.9) — $6.15 / $1.90 🏆 4TH
Bet $4.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$4.00
Prob 16.9% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 0.71x
Why If he gets into the right lane early, the late surge does the rest.
Roughie: Redford River (No.3) — $24.50 / $4.20 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.5% | Place: 34.5% | Value: 0.89x
Why Winning shot is a longbow; place shot is there, but we're focusing the pool.
Race type: Benchmark 82, 1000m
Map & tempo: Slow pace. That's when wet 1000m makes front-runners dangerous.
Punty read: One Hard Lady (No.3) is the short-priced engine, on a wet track, the horse that can hold rhythm tends to keep stretching rather than fading. Vinolass (No.8) is your "if the fav doesn't run straight" option, but this model isn't paying for it as a bet. Toompine (No.5) is the type that can pop into a place via a last-lane run, but again: stake discipline today.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. One Hard Lady (No.3) — $1.48 / $1.05 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 48.5% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 0.79x
Why Short price because she can control the wet-1000 tempo.
2. Vinolass (No.8) — $4.90 / $1.72 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.7% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.06x
Why Model's saying: don't duplicate, let One Hard Lady carry the ticket.
3. Toompine (No.5) — $15.75 / $3.70 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.4% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.97x
Why Value's there, but it's not the day to spread too thin.
Roughie: King Gutho (No.1) — $24.00 / $4.20 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.0% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 2.65x
Why He'd need a big switch + pace collapse to win; place chance isn't enough to justify the stake.
Race type: Class 1, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace. This stops it becoming a complete muddle, unless the rain decides otherwise.
Punty read: Look Here (No.8) is your win play because he's right where he wants to be when a genuine pace runs. Mr Avery (No.6) is a place lean that the model doesn't love enough to back, because the place price zone makes it a bit of a trap. Russian Gangster (No.7) is the best place value among the rest: he can hold position and stay in the fight.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Look Here (No.8) — $2.45 / $1.17 🏆 5TH
Bet $9.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$9.50
Prob 30.0% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 0.82x
Why Pace flow suits him, and wet 1600 is all about staying balanced.
2. Mr Avery (No.6) — $3.00 / $1.22 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.6% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 0.66x
Why The model's treating it as "almost there" rather than "payday there."
3. Russian Gangster (No.7) — $9.75 / $2.45 🏆 6TH
Bet $5.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$5.50
Prob 16.0% | Place: 95.0% | Value: 1.75x
Why He's made for a pace-run 1600 and can find the top 3 when others tire.
Roughie: Tis No Man (No.5) — $13.50 / $2.85 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.6% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.91x
Why Roughie place route is real if the field stretches and he gets into clear galloping room.
Race type: Benchmark 58, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace. That's when the right horse finds a gap like it's trained for stand-up comedy.
Punty read: Heart Balm (No.7) is the each-way bet because she's got the wet-proofing and the track tendency to hang around for a finish. Dreamstone (No.4) looks like she's overpriced vs what the day is offering, but the model isn't taking the win line, so it's Cooranga (No.3) for place value. A Book Of Days (No.1) is the roughie we respect, but we're not forcing it.
Top 3 + Roughie ($18.00 pool)
1. Heart Balm (No.7) — $3.85 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet $11.50 Each Way ($5.75W + $5.75P) — ✓ Won, net +$20.41
Prob 16.0% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 0.73x
Why Slow pace on a wet track often turns into "keep showing up and get your cheque."
2. Dreamstone (No.4) — $8.40 / $2.55 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 62.0% | Value: 1.41x
Why No bet because it's already covered via the each-way anchor, don't double-dip your risk.
3. Cooranga (No.3) — $13.00 / $3.10 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $6.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$6.50
Prob 6.7% | Place: 59.6% | Value: 1.04x
Why Gets into the placings if the run turns into a scramble rather than a sprint.
Roughie: A Book Of Days (No.1) — $10.75 / $2.80 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.0% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 1.29x
Why He's got the ability, but to win from here he needs the race to break open at the right time.
Race type: Class 1, 1000m
Map & tempo: Hot pace. Wet 1000m is the "survive the first turn" lottery.
Punty read: Fire Chat (No.2) is your each-way flyer, when they're charging in heavy ground, he's the type that can keep rolling without melting. Noteabeel (No.3) is tempting, but the model's pushing it to no bet on overinsurance logic. Under Wraps (No.4) is too priced like a trap, and Silver Agent (No.6) is the roughie you keep in your notebook, not your bankroll.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Fire Chat (No.2) — $4.55 / $1.75 🏆 9TH
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 13.1% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 0.75x
Why Each-way on wet 1000 is all about getting a fair crack, he's in the mix to do it.
2. Noteabeel (No.3) — $7.80 / $2.60 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.1% | Place: 95.0% | Value: 1.28x
Why Covered by the EW spine, no point doubling up and burning your money.
3. Under Wraps (No.4) — $4.15 / $1.70 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.1% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 0.68x
Why Pace might help, but the place probability isn't strong enough to justify it.
Roughie: Silver Agent (No.6) — $35.00 / $6.00 🏆 10TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.4% | Place: 33.9% | Value: 1.48x
Why He wins by producing a last-to-first miracle run; not enough edge for a stake push.
Sequence legs are the picks-engine's authoritative choice, rendered from the persisted ticket.
Smart: 7,6,3 / 3,4,2,9 / 4,3,1,7,2 / 13,2,9 (180 combos x $0.11 = $20.00) -- 11% flexi
Sequence legs are the picks-engine's authoritative choice, rendered from the persisted ticket.
Smart: 3,8,5 / 6,8,7,5 / 7,4,3,1 / 3,2,4 (144 combos x $0.17 = $25.00) -- 17% flexi
Sequence legs are the picks-engine's authoritative choice, rendered from the persisted ticket.
Smart: 4 / 13 / 3 / 8 / 7 / 2 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2.00) -- 200% flexi
The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.
1 - Hold This (Race 2, No.3)✗ — $1.72
2 - My Mate Elvis (Race 3, No.4)✓ Won — $2.15
3 - One Hard Lady (Race 5, No.3)✗ — $1.48
Meeting Stats
Selections
Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Wagga's throwing Heavy 9 spaghetti at us again and the whole joint smells like "one of these foggy boggers is gonna bolt in like it's a Marvel movie reveal"… (with less dignity). Good news though: the card's got a clear spine, and we're sticking to it like a kid in a lolly shop.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Heavy 9, 1400m-2000m card
Rail: +8m 1400m-W/Post, +3m Remainder
Official going: Heavy 9 (expected to play mud-friendly with hold-up value)
Weather: Showers, 13°C, humidity 90%, wind 14km/h SSW (watch for big rain windows around race times)
Early lane guess: Mid-to-outside with a few leaders doing the heavy lifting
Tempo profile: Moderate-to-slow overall. When it's wet, pace is a question mark until the 2nd bend.
Jockeys to follow:
Brodie Loy, been landing at this track a fair bit lately, and he gets the right spots to hunt.
Quayde Krogh, suits wet trips; can steamroll a race if the tempo goes soft.
Ms Jess Taylor, has that "show up at the right time" thing down pat, especially when there's pressure up front.
Stables to respect:
Sylvia Thompson (2 runners), tends to have horses ready to go in these conditions, and she doesn't mind a long-distance grind.
Doug Gorrel (2 runners), the "quiet achiever" style: steady map, steady returns, then suddenly you're holding tickets like a goose.
N J Olive (2 runners), usually finds one that runs on when everyone else turns it into a survival test.
Punty's take:
This track is Heavy 9 with rain lurking like the villain in a Saturday morning cartoon. That means races get messy: horses that can handle sting in the ground, plus jockeys who don't panic when the field bunches up, are the ones who pop their heads out late.
I'm especially interested in the 2000m Benchmark race (Race 1) because the "lead vs staying power" balance matters a lot more than people think on a wet 9. Reel Crystal (No.7) is the sort of horse that doesn't need everything to go right, she just needs a crack to run through and she's got the market profile to be there.
Then Race 2 into Race 5 is where the day goes from "watching" to "playing": Hold This (No.3) looks like the leader-type that loves taking a position and not giving it back; One Hard Lady (No.3) in Race 5 is your money-spine because when a short-priced horse can go forward on a wet track, you don't overthink it, you just get on.
What it means for you:
Bet like a grown-up: attack with the top picks, but don't go full gambler and chase every shiny roughie. The wet track will punish overconfidence, especially in heavier cards where wide trips and checking can wreck your whole plan.
So here's the game plan:
Be aggressive in place-friendly races where the leader/stalker can hold position (Race 2, Race 4, Race 6). Then let the spine do the heavy work, Big 3 + Multi is how you keep the day in your hands instead of letting it run you over like a puddle on the turn.
And if rain ramps up at the wrong moment? You'll want to be on the horses that can keep moving without needing perfect galloping room. That's why the spine is heavily map/position driven, not just "favourite because favourite."
