Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, on-pacers get first dibs, Heavy 10 turns it into a grinding sprint
Punty read: Blondmoon is the one that looks like she gets the run. Barrier 4, on pace, and she's built for this sort of mud-and-momentum race where you don't need to be a rocket, just need to be in the first few when the track takes everyone's legs. Crixus is the wildcard speed map chaos, first-up off a long break, and if the leaders tire, he's the sort that can land late. Chill Factor's got a rough little resume, but on a Heavy 10, a bumped-up horse with a drift in the odds can still produce a sneaky finish.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Blondmoon (No.5) — $2.40 / $1.40 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 40.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.30x
Why On-pace, wet-track friendly, and the market has her pegged in the right spot.
2. Crixus (No.3) — $2.39 / $1.40 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.4% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.03x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Carlow (No.2) — $5.85 / $2.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.7% | Place: 32.8% | Value: 1.17x
Why Might run a race for a spot, but it's not the sort of value I'm chasing in a tight maiden field.
Roughie: Chill Factor (No.1) — $9.80 / $3.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 1.52x
Why If she finds clear air after the bad luck, Heavy 10 can make her late burst nasty.
Race type: Maiden, 1360m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, so position and saving ground wins races in the wet
Punty read: This is a "who doesn't get bogged" maiden. Fantabulous has the best balance of being on the speed without needing to lead itself into defeat. Midnight Flair is the danger if she gets a run, and Game Face is the one that can sneak into the placings if the pace collapses and everyone just starts sliding at once.
Thatz slow tempo on a Heavy 10 means late runs are real, but they still need a clear corridor, because traffic is how you get checked and lose all chance.
Top 3 + Roughie ($11.50 pool)
1. Fantabulous (No.2) — $2.99 / $1.32 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $9.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$9.50
Prob 26.6% | Place: 51.0% | Value: 1.03x
Why On pace in a slow race, and she should be travelling well enough to put herself there.
2. Midnight Flair (No.3) — $3.88 / $1.55 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $2.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$2.00
Prob 21.2% | Place: 45.6% | Value: 1.23x
Why Heavy 10 suits her style, and she looks like a genuine frame chance if there's any hesitation early.
3. Game Face (No.9) — $4.95 / $1.70 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 28.5% | Value: 0.99x
Why Not enough value on the place side, she'd need everything to go right.
Roughie: Therealramsay (No.6) — $10.10 / $2.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.93x
Why If the leaders gas it and she picks up late, she can fill a hole fast.
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1360m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, tempo keeps it honest but Heavy 10 punishes backmarkers
Punty read: Go Trigger sets up like the kind that wants to be in the first cluster and keep grinding. Elite Choice has the profile to run a big race if she handles the heavy, and Our Sassie Anne is the sort that can hold a position and keep going when others soften.
In Heavy 10, being on the wrong part of the track is how you burn your legs early, then you're just jogging for photos. This race looks like it'll be won by whoever travels best through the middle without losing momentum.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Go Trigger (No.3) — $3.75 / $1.55 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.00 Each Way ($6.00W + $6.00P) — ✓ Won, net +$19.80
Prob 17.7% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 0.89x
Why Maps to be handy, and Benchmark 65 usually gives on-pacers a route to at least running top three.
2. Elite Choice (No.5) — $4.90 / $1.75 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.7% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.21x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Our Sassie Anne (No.8) — $4.55 / $1.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.6% | Place: 28.9% | Value: 0.79x
Why She's a grinder, but the value isn't screaming enough to justify the stake.
Roughie: Ride The Tide (No.4) — $12.75 / $2.90 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.81x
Why If the tempo slows more than expected, she might charge late, but she needs the right rhythm.
Race type: Maiden, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, so late value and on-pacers are the play in the wet
Punty read: Winter Rose is the cash register vibe, on pace and suited to Heavy 10. At 1600m you've got time to make ground, but Heavy 10 still makes it hard to sprint late unless you're positioned. Jasper has the "I'll be there when you look down at your watch" sort of profile, and Royal Teaser is the sort of horse that can surprise, but she's sitting outside my core thinking today.
Galeforce as the roughie place is the kind of punt you make when the wet track makes everything closer than it should be.
Top 3 + Roughie ($23.00 pool)
1. Winter Rose (No.6) — $2.88 / $1.45 🏆 2ND
Bet $19.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$19.50
Prob 28.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.94x
Why On-pace in a slow race, and she looks made for this Heavy 10 grind.
2. Jasper (No.2) — $4.75 / $1.75 🏆 3RD
Bet $3.50 Place — ✓ Won, net +$2.62
Prob 14.1% | Place: 58.5% | Value: 1.01x
Why Big place chance if she gets through the middle stages clean.
3. Royal Teaser (No.3) — $4.90 / $1.85 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.3% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.88x
Why Place odds aren't giving enough cover for the way this market shapes.
Roughie: Galeforce (No.5) — $10.10 / $3.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.0% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 0.91x
Why Wet-track stamina type, and she's got the right structure for a late grab.
Race type: Maiden, 2060m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, long grind on Heavy 10, this is stamina with a splat
Punty read: Kay's Ruebe is the backbone here. She can find a position in a slow race and then keep working through the slog, the kind of 2060m where horses with staying mechanics are dangerous. The Republican is a live hope too, but he's not my win anchor. Les Boots has the sort of consistent pathway to the frame that Heavy 10 rewards.
When the pace is slow, don't overthink early moves. The winner is usually whoever saves the most energy and still finishes off like they mean it.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Kay's Ruebe (No.9) — $4.80 / $1.95 🏆 2ND
Bet $12.00 Each Way ($6.00W + $6.00P) — Cashed, net -$0.30
Prob 17.6% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 1.05x
Why Stays the trip and can run on through the mud when others stall.
2. The Republican (No.1) — $4.70 / $1.85 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.7% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.48x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Les Boots (No.5) — $6.45 / $2.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.70x
Why Could run a cheeky race, but the model wants tighter value elsewhere.
Roughie: Roadhouse Blues (No.7) — $13.75 / $3.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.6% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 1.23x
Why Needs the right late scramble and for the pace to collapse further.
Race type: Benchmark 65, 2060m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, longer Heavy 10 test, class edge matters more than speed
Punty read: Ocean Melody looks like the one who handles the slog and keeps finding rhythm. Sacred Zed is the danger because she's the kind that can take advantage of the race turning into a battle of legs late. Dojakata's there too, but the model's not biting on her win or place today.
Grand Prospect is roughie category, and with a long list of off-balance runners, sometimes you get the surprise that charges late. But for my ticket, it's Ocean Melody first.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Ocean Melody (No.5) — $2.93 / $1.52 🏆 WINNER
Bet $5.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$9.65
Prob 21.1% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.83x
Why Made for this kind of Heavy grind and should be in the right zone to strike.
2. Sacred Zed (No.3) — $3.95 / $1.65 🏆 4TH
Bet $2.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$2.50
Prob 17.2% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 0.92x
Why Wet-track danger with enough class to be there late, and the place price gives a decent buffer.
3. Dojakata (No.4) — $4.90 / $1.85 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.7% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 1.25x
Why Value is okay-ish, but not enough place edge for the model's framework.
Roughie: Grand Prospect (No.2) — $10.10 / $3.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 12.8% | Value: 1.11x
Why Needs a late lane and for the race to splinter hard, otherwise he's just chasing.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 5,3,8 / 6,3,2,5 / 9,1,5,7 / 4,5,3,2 (192 combos x $0.31 = $60.00) -- 31% flexi
The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.
1 - Blondmoon (Race 1, No.5)✗ — $2.40
2 - Fantabulous (Race 2, No.2) — $2.99
3 - Winter Rose (Race 4, No.6)✗ — $2.88

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Wanganui is throwing a Heavy 10 hissy fit at us, shower or two, gusty as fuck, and the track's gonna be like a sponge cake left out in the rain. This is the sort of meeting where the good ones won't just win, they'll win ugly, splashing through like they've just been double-booked for a wet t-shirt contest.
If you're chasing a clean story, chase the ones with the map and the wet-handle. There's pace about in spots, but Heavy 10 at 1200 to 2060m means you can't be too far back unless the horse is legit and the jockey has the softest hands in the game. Market support matters today too, because drifters can drift straight into the shadow realm.
My spine for the day is simple. Blondmoon, Winter Rose, then someone with a wet-track grin who can actually hit the line when the going turns to soup. After that, it's all about place-value and not getting cute when the race shape says 'stay in your lane, tight legends, save some petrol'.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Heavy 10, 1200-2060m card
Rail: Out 4m
Official going: Heavy 10 (expected to play Wet Tracker chaos)
Weather: Shower or two, 14°C, humidity 94%, wind 18km/h SW (watch for fast-form fades and wide holds up)
Early lane guess: On-pace squaring up early, then the run-off starts at the turn
Tempo profile: Moderate to slow early, then Heavy 10 makes it a grind to the line
Jockeys to follow:
Liam Kauri: barrier weapons today, gets them out and keeps going when it turns sticky.
Lisa Allpress: lots of chances across the card, loves getting her timing right in the mess.
Amber Riddell: handy in the right races, and when she's on a live one, she knows how to finish it off.
Stables to respect:
K T Myers (8 runners): always shows up in these wet, grindy provincial contests, no drama with conditions.
Ms L Latta (5 runners): profile says 'place chance', and the Heavy track rewards her style.
J Lavelle & S Rennie (3 runners): when they fire, they do it with intent, especially in maidens.
Punty's take:
Heavy 10 plus a bit of rain is basically a license for horses with the right action and patience to take over late. That's why Blondmoon in Race 1 is exactly the sort that can stalk and pounce, no heroics required, just a clean handle and the right run in traffic. Crixus also looks like he can be dangerous if the race falls apart a touch, especially with that long absence, first-up types sometimes bolt as soon as they find the ground.
Then it's Winter Rose in Race 4, the sort of horse that doesn't ask permission from the wet track. JaspeR looks like the place play you'd swear at if you didn't have him in the multi, because maidens on heavy often keep finding a reason to run into the frame.
Race 3 and Race 6 are where you go "fuck yeah, that's the plan" or "why did I listen". Go Trigger is the speed map play in a Benchmark 65 where the leaders can get tested but still do enough. Race 6 is a messy Bm65 too, and I'm leaning toward the one that looks made for this sort of slog, Ocean Melody, with Sacred Zed pressing as the danger.
What it means for you:
Bet places like you've got a job interview, not like you're chasing roulette. With Heavy 10, a lot of horses get within range and then just keep crawling, meaning the top three usually includes someone who should've been there all along. That's the sweet spot for your risk, especially when the market's too stiff on the favourite-types.
Your aggressive spots today are Race 1 for the win, Race 4 for the win, and then keep your powder dry on anything that looks like it's drifting hard without a clear Heavy 10 excuse. If you want a roughie, take one that fits the wet and can actually win, not just "each way vibes".
Now let's get stuck in.
