Punty's take:

This is one of those Wodonga meetings where the track is slow, the fog can change the jump-off, and straight speed is only part of the story. Out 3m entire circuit usually means you can get away with being a bit wider, but you still want the horse to actually travel. If they're stuck three wide with no kick, you're just paying for a sightseeing tour.

I'm building today around the "can get position and keep it" brigade. That's why the Big 3 spine is set the way it is. Race 4 looks like a classic maiden where the best horse on the day just gets the run of the race. Race 2 is the same story, but faster, with a couple of well-meant debut-form types who can actually hit the line. Then Race 5, Brutify is the obvious map winner, and I'd be disappointed if she doesn't control it from the front part of the field.

What it means for you:

Bet like the track is real. That means, in the early races, get behind the horses that can hold their spot, not the ones that need everything to go right. Soft 7 can turn a "maybe" into a "suddenly no room", so protect yourself by backing the on-pace and the solid place types.

For the chaos lanes, use them like you use extra chilli in your schnitty. Fun, but don't drown the meal. The Quaddie and Big 6 are there for entertainment and dividend potential, not for pretending the universe owes us an easy ride.

Punty read: This one's a long, soft grind. With a slow tempo, the "good mid" horses can save ground and still have something left late. Maranoa Boy (No.4) and Stelletta (No.8) both look like they can sit within striking range and not get bullied. Don't Doubt Tigga (No.1) keeps popping up in the "got held up, didn't finish it" category, so I'm using that as a place/watch mindset, but the win line isn't where the value sits on my sheet today.

Punty read: This looks like Marron's race to lose, and Victrix Swan is the perfect "run into the finish" partner. Very Famous (No.9) might be the value decoy, and the others are more in the "maybe if the speed falls apart" bracket. With this tempo, barrier manners matter less than having the gears working at the right time, and I'm backing the ones who can stay involved.

Luminary Miss (No.12) is the obvious alternative if she finds room, and Wiser (No.3) is your "needs a bit of luck and a clear run" type. The danger is traffic jams on a Soft track, so if the inside gets cooked you want the horse that can shift out and still finish.

Soft 7 at 1300m can turn into a slog, so the horse with the clean action and the best position is the one winning, not the one chasing 2 minutes behind.
