The Race

The Golden Eagle was first run in 2019 at Rosehill, and Kolding won it for Chris Waller and Glen Boss.

The race is for four-year-olds only, at set weights over 1500m.

It ran as a special-conditions race without black type from 2019 to 2025 and was upgraded to Group 1 for 2026.

The race moved from Rosehill to Randwick in 2025.

The 2026 running is worth $10 million.

Japanese-trained Obamburumai won in 2023 for Keiji Yoshimura, and English trainer William Haggas won in 2024 with Lake Forest.

Colette won the 2020 running on a Heavy 9 track, in the slowest time of the seven runnings (1:32.67).

The fastest winning time is I'm Thunderstruck's 1:27.90 in 2021, as listed on Wikipedia (no official race record found).

Patterns, Rated

Strong signal: enough runnings and a racing reason behind it. Interesting: worth knowing, not worth betting on alone. Pub stat: fun at the bar, useless at the window.
