Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, with a bunch of backmarkers needing the straight wind to bail them up.
Punty read: Lepolo is the standout on sheer win chance, and this is the kind of maiden race where a horse with ability and an efficient run can just keep building down the straight instead of getting swallowed. Rising Nine Top and Don'tdoubtdagoose are the live dangers, because they can slot in behind the speed and pounce when everyone else starts coasting. Corretto's the rough roughie, because second-up 1400m on the home track is exactly the scenario where debut blunders get erased.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Lepolo (No.3) — $2.05 / $1.22 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$12.60
Prob 38.8% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why First up, but the trial angle screams capability and the synthetic tempo should let him hit the line strong without needing a miracle.
2. Rising Nine Top (No.4) — $3.90 / $1.75 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.3% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 0.70x
Why Needs the race shape to go his way and the market has him as a hope, but if the pace stays slow he can run into the finish.
3. Don'tdoubtdagoose (No.7) — $8.20 / $2.90 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.5% | Place: 19.1% | Value: 1.37x
Why Value play because the market is paying for a slice, and in a small-field maiden, running into the top three can be way easier than winning.
Roughie: Corretto (No.1) — $5.75 / $2.50 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.1% | Place: 19.2% | Value: 0.58x
Why The second-up 1400m angle helps, but place chances are the safe route and win is the hard ask from back in the pack.
Race type: Maiden, 1500m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, not chaotic, which means staying balanced beats gambling on a late miracle.
Punty read: Lancetta is the betting heart here, and he's got that "easy run into the race" profile where he can keep rolling without being forced into early sprinting. Prestige Zerprise looks like the dangerous one because she can get a run and then keep finding, but she's also carrying the kind of risk where it's a touch too easy for the favourites to cover her. Egerton Reef is your classic case of "he's thereabouts, pay him respect", because the excuses and the fitness line up for a bounce.
Top 3 + Roughie ($21.00 pool)
1. Lancetta (No.10) — $2.54 / $1.25 🏆 2ND
Bet $17.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$17.00
Prob 37.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.11x
Why Right in the pocket at a distance where on-paces usually get every chance, and the market is confident enough to say he's the real deal.
2. Prestige Zerprise (No.5) — $4.80 / $1.75 🏆 3RD
Bet $4.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$3.00
Prob 12.8% | Place: 60.8% | Value: 0.77x
Why Third-up drop in grade, plus she's the sort to stick on when others start wobbling late.
3. Egerton Reef (No.1) — $5.40 / $1.90 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.47x
Why Looks live if the run is there, but the win window is smaller and you'll probably get better value backing the main place engine.
Roughie: Viperstrike (No.8) — $9.00 / $2.65 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.78x
Why If the middle section gets messy, he can creep into the picture, but he's still more "play exotics" than "standalone winner" here.
Race type: Maiden, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with pressure early, the winners usually come from the on-pacers who don't get trapped in traffic.
Punty read: Face The Wild is the bull in the china shop at this trip. Drawn on the better end of the on-speed map, and if the pace develops the way it should, he's got every chance to fight out the finish. Isle Of Mona is next best because she's versatile enough to land in the right spot and then keep chewing at the line. What Once Was is more of a grinder, and if the speed collapses he can be a pain in the ass.
Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)
1. Face The Wild (No.9) — $2.32 / $1.20 🏆 WINNER
Bet $20.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$26.40
Prob 33.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.30x
Why On the pace at 1000m with a clean path to the line, and the market says he's ready to do the job.
2. Isle Of Mona (No.10) — $4.50 / $1.65 🏆 2ND
Bet $4.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$2.60
Prob 17.6% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.66x
Why If he gets room early, he's a strong place type and loves this kind of pressure sprint.
3. What Once Was (No.12) — $5.10 / $1.75 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why The pace might set up, but without a clear advantage, he's better as a watch than a stake.
Roughie: Myhomecomingqueen (No.4) — $9.30 / $2.65 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.3% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.23x
Why Heaps to like if the race stays tight and the sprint is won by attitude, but it's still a rougher's crack, not a banker.
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, keep things simple at 1200m, the leaders can be hard to run down.
Punty read: Saludar is the one you build around. Blinkers first time on a horse that can take control is basically asking for trouble for everyone else. Havana Moon is the danger, because she's got the ability to stick on and keep hitting the line like a DJ with perfect timing. Sparkling Award is your value chaos in the middle, if the early speed doesn't burn too hot.
Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)
1. Saludar (No.2) — $1.85 / $1.08 🏆 WINNER
Bet $20.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$17.00
Prob 45.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.14x
Why Blinkers, good gate position, and the map says he gets first look at the finish.
2. Havana Moon (No.7) — $3.90 / $1.50 🏆 3RD
Bet $4.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$2.00
Prob 17.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.76x
Why She's a place-lock type if it turns into a staying sprint, because she keeps grinding past late movers.
3. Sparkling Award (No.8) — $5.50 / $1.85 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.36x
Why Value in the market, but place profile is doing the work, win needs everything to line up.
Roughie: Bohemian Boy (No.10) — $13.00 / $2.85 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.7% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.29x
Why Could run a monster race if he finds clear air, but he's a swing for the fences play.
Race type: BM70, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, synthetic 1200 means the best balanced runner picks up the whole field in the run home.
Punty read: Miss Mahjong is the main act, and Spirited Defence is the one who'll get pressure early because he can win races when he gets the right timing. Shaalute is right there as the other live danger, especially if the race stays bunched and everyone keeps holding their breath. If you're looking for an upset path, Powerbound is the roughie because he can pop late if the speed collapses more than expected.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Miss Mahjong (No.6) — $5.00 / $1.70 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$42.00
Prob 22.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.42x
Why Best of the bunch for actually hitting the line with intent, plus she's the value win that doesn't need a miracle run.
2. Spirited Defence (No.1) — $2.85 / $1.30 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.73x
Why Strong place chance, but win odds are too skinny for the risk, you'll probably get a better payout elsewhere.
3. Shaalute (No.3) — $3.80 / $1.52 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.95x
Why Profile is solid, but it's not screaming value as the win play at these prices.
Roughie: Powerbound (No.5) — $18.00 / $3.60 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 28.7% | Value: 1.12x
Why Best chance is a pace meltdown and him finding clear air, if that doesn't happen he's cooked.
Race type: BM56, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace expected, so you want a runner who can keep going when the sprint starts boiling.
Punty read: Bliss Bomb looks like the one who can do the hard work early and still have the lungs for the last 100m. Starburst is the danger because at this trip, leaders with real gate speed can still get their own race. Fast 'n' Inzaine adds spice because he's got the kind of rhythm that suits staying in touch and sprinting past tired rivals.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Bliss Bomb (No.2) — $3.50 / $1.32 🏆 3RD
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 31.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.39x
Why Drops into this grade perfectly, and with a genuine tempo the horse that can sustain kicks wins.
2. Starburst (No.5) — $2.10 / $1.09 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.2% | Place: 64.9% | Value: 0.59x
Why Place chance exists but win is too short for the price, he needs everything to go right and you're paying overs.
3. Fast 'n' Inzaine (No.3) — $5.00 / $1.60 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.2% | Place: 66.8% | Value: 1.31x
Why Great place profile, but win needs the run to line up and there's another one doing the heavy lifting.
Roughie: Bell's Bighouse (No.6) — $51.00 / $5.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 1.8% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 1.19x
Why It's a long-shot win story, but if the race shape goes sideways and he gets a freak run, that's how you get paid in the chaos.
Race type: BM66, 2100m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, which turns this into a tactical grind with a strong last part.
Punty read: Ahab is the market leader in spirit, but the real danger is that 2100m on a synthetic with a slow tempo often rewards the patient runner with a straight run. All So Clear is that kind of grinder, he's been holding his own and can lift into the top three. Kawa is my value-looking type because he can be forward enough to get a run and then keep hitting the line, perfect for a place-leverage day.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Ahab (No.4) — $3.00 / $1.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet $11.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$22.00
Prob 17.7% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 0.67x
Why Maps midfield with the chance to sit close without expending too early, and at 2100m that matters a lot.
2. All So Clear (No.1) — $5.00 / $1.80 🏆 2ND
Bet $3.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$2.40
Prob 17.4% | Place: 61.9% | Value: 1.10x
Why Consistent approach, and if the pace stays slow, the ones who can stalk and then travel are the winners.
3. Kawa (No.7) — $6.50 / $2.20 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.35x
Why The place angle is strong, but the win is a little more volatile in a slow 2100 where timing is everything.
Roughie: Pharoah's Daughter (No.8) — $9.00 / $2.65 🏆 3RD
Bet $1.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$1.65
Prob 9.4% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.07x
Why She's a long odds-in-the-right-way place hope, and if the run unfolds she can grab a slice of the finish.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)
1. Savvie Blanc (No.1) — $3.90 / $1.65 🏆 5TH
Bet $17.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$17.00

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Ballarat Synthetic today feels like a slow-motion demolition derby, rail's true entire circuit, and the wind's got a bit of swing at the right time to help the lads who can keep grinding late. Get the speed onside, keep your eyes on the market movers, and for the love of racing, don't go chucking cash at a 150 dollar "maybe" unless you've got a plan for it.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Ballarat Synthetic, 1000m to 2100m card
Rail: True Entire Circuit
Official going: Synthetic (plays like a grip-and-go with late sprint benefits)
Weather: Possible shower, 13°C, humidity 58%, wind 20km/h N (watch for gusts and late-charging chances holding on)
Early lane guess: Tempo should favour on-paces and those who can sit handily, but the gusty straight gives closers a sniff.
Tempo profile: Slow to moderate early across the card, with a "stay in the race" finish thanks to the wind up the straight.
Jockeys to follow:
Jye McNeil: keeps landing in the right spots and can upgrade a run in the straight.
Harry Coffey: a menace when the stable has one ready to fire early, especially first-ups and mid-distance plays.
John Allen: the one you want steering a horse that maps close to the speed on a synthetic.
Stables to respect:
Matthew Cumani (1 runners): debut angle with Corretto, and second-up 1400m is where these types can start getting serious.
L & T Corstens & W Larkin (1 runners): always worth a look when they bring a fresh one to the synthetic, Hustle's the sort to spring late.
P Kearney (1 runners): handlers with consistent strike in these grades, and if Face The Wild or the like is ready, they're usually not there for decoration.
Punty's take:
Alright, here's the vibe. Ballarat Synthetic is behaving like that mate at the pub who says "it's easy money" and then you realise they're actually right. When the tempo is slow, the synthetic usually turns it into a long, tense sprint where the last 200m matters more than the first 600m. Wind also gives closers a genuine edge, because they can keep their momentum instead of dying in the straight.
The big thing I'm hunting today is a clean race shape. You can already see it in the card, Race 1's a proper maiden scramble with a couple of real "get rolling late" profiles, Race 2 has a tight four or five, Race 3 is all about the pace being tested early and then letting the best grinder sort it out.
And the backbone of the day, my Big 3 + Multi spine, is built off the strongest win chances where the value is also doing its job, so we're not just donating money to the spirit of randomness. We're here to collect.
What it means for you:
Aggressive where you should be aggressive: Race 1 and Race 2 are where you want to be on a couple of main threats early, because the synthetic at 1400m and 1500m punishes being caught too far back with no run. Race 3 is the place to respect the on-pacers and the ones that can sit close, Face The Wild looks like the sort that knows where the line is.
Then Race 4 through Race 6 is where synthetics usually expose weak manners, late moves, and horses that don't quite handle the kick. I'm leaning on the top picks in those races because the market is showing clear intent, especially where there's been solid firming support.
Finally, when we get to the stayers in Race 7 and the 1500m grade in Race 8, keep it simple. Don't get cute, let the leaders and near-leaders do the heavy lifting, then use your roughies only as insurance, not as the whole plan.
