Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden Plate, 2100m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, Autafinna sets the tone, pressure comes from Chuckler and Honeyhill midfield
Punty read:
This one's a 2100m "who's got the stamina to not get ideas too early" gig. Autafinna is the early control, barrier 1 and on-pace, and she's the kind of horse who can make you feel like you should've bought the drink on the first round. Chuckler's drifting out, which screams caution, but Honeyhill has the blinkers on and looks like she can track that speed and peel out late. Royal Princess and Reschs Milk are the types that can fill a spot if the front runners do the polite thing and keep battling.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Autafinna (No.1) — $1.83 / $1.13 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 48.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.22x
Why Barrier 1, speed map helps, and she profiles as the horse to keep progressing through the race rather than chopping out early.
2. Chuckler (No.2) — $5.40 / $2.30 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.0% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 0.74x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Honeyhill (No.5) — $6.35 / $2.55 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.0% | Place: 41.0% | Value: 1.61x
Why Gear change to blinkers, plus there's a real chance she slides into that top 3 when the front bunch stretches.
Roughie: Torpedo Ted (No.3) — $40.50 / $8.50 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 1.7% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.84x
Why If the speed collapses and the jockey parks patience, he can run on, but winning is the long shot event.
Race type: C1, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Proxima Dea leads, Powerful Prayer mid, Sirius Moss on the speed
Punty read:
This is a proper race where the tempo does the driving. Proxima Dea is the one who gets the front and forces everyone to answer questions on the move. Powerful Prayer looks like the main danger type, coming through midfield and trying to stick a finishing kick on you. Olivia Mia has the value about her for place, and Sirius Moss is the sort that can sit closer than people expect when the leaders don't sprint themselves into a grave.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Proxima Dea (No.1) — $1.79 / $1.10 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$7.90
Prob 44.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.93x
Why Leads with confidence, and the map advantage says she gets every chance to save ground and hit the line hard.
2. Powerful Prayer (No.5) — $3.60 / $1.80 🏆 3RD
Bet $5.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$4.00
Prob 23.5% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.00x
Why She's live if the pace stays honest, but the odds are about right, so I'm not forcing it.
3. Olivia Mia (No.7) — $5.00 / $1.95 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.5% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.33x
Why If she gets a clear run late, she can absolutely run into the frame.
Roughie: Sirius Moss (No.6) — $7.00 / $2.50 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.1% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.84x
Why He's capable of a decent run, but winning has to come through the front end not collapsing.
Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Temptation is the likely star out front, Count Du Money pushes on, In Circles close by
Punty read:
This is straight sprint chaos. Temptation has the best "out of the gate, straight into the story" look, and the gear is there to sharpen him up. Count Du Money is the one I want for the "don't you dare ignore me" finish, because he maps to give himself every chance. In Circles has the market volatility written all over him, and Unleash Harry is there for the run-on if things get messy. Capdiva is priced like a novelty unless the field turns into a rolling carpet.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Temptation (No.10) — $1.69 / $1.09 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 48.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.02x
Why Big speed into the race, and the sprint set-up suits him. If he gets the trip, he wins.
2. Count Du Money (No.5) — $5.10 / $2.00 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.4% | Place: 35.1% | Value: 1.56x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Unleash Harry (No.1) — $5.10 / $1.95 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 0.50x
Why Has a path, but the win angle is thinner than the other main players.
Roughie: Capdiva (No.3) — $13.50 / $3.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.9% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.99x
Why If the market's wrong and she jumps up early, yeah she can run into it, but she needs the planets aligned.
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Caviar and Acharnee near, Gus The Great and Snitzel Miss in the mix
Punty read:
Genuine pace means this isn't a stroll in the park. Snitzel Miss has the best "get in the contest" look, barrier 1 helps, but weight and hidden friction in maidens can bite. Gus The Great looks like the danger, drawn out but sitting close enough to run at the right moment, especially with a race that should keep moving. Acharnee has the value if she gets her run and lands the right stalk, while Caviar is a bit of the "could be anything" leader with the gear change and a confidence market move.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Gus The Great (No.3) — $2.50 / $1.50 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$18.00
Prob 29.1% | Place: 54.6% | Value: 0.78x
Why On the speed map enough to not get trapped, and with genuine pace, the leader pressure favours a forward runner.
2. Snitzel Miss (No.12) — $3.60 / $1.85 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.3% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.81x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Acharnee (No.8) — $5.00 / $2.35 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.7% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.51x
Why Value angle if the pace works and she can thread through into the top 3.
Roughie: Fly The Wind (No.10) — $34.00 / $7.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 1.8% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.72x
Why Backmarker who can sprint late if the race turns into a sprint-finish. Great if it happens, harsh if it doesn't.
Race type: Benchmark 68, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Dietrich on the midfield, Harlex on pace, Apollo Ridge tracks it
Punty read:
This is a "1000m, where you find out who actually wants it" race. Dietrich is the short one and might just steal it if he's positioned close enough early. Harlex is a real danger for the top end, with the map and stable intent profile to go bang at the right time. Apollo Ridge gives you the perfect "third-quarter run" vibe, while No Statement is there for the place value if he can find the gap and not get trapped behind the crowd.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Dietrich (No.6) — $2.80 / $1.60 🏆 6TH
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 27.3% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.95x
Why Short price, and he's the one most likely to keep his momentum and hit the line with less drama.
2. Harlex (No.1) — $5.00 / $2.35 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.4% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.27x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Apollo Ridge (No.4) — $5.00 / $2.35 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.1% | Place: 37.4% | Value: 1.06x
Why He can sit on the right part of the track and come again if the race opens up.
Roughie: No Statement (No.8) — $21.00 / $4.80 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.4% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.61x
Why Needs chaos or a lane to appear, because otherwise he's chasing too much race.
Race type: Maiden, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Crash Bang Wallop on pace, Skyrise and Street Lyric also in the mix
Punty read:
This is the classic 1000m "who's got the right tools and timing" race. Crash Bang Wallop has the ear muffs pre-race first time and a profile that says she can run a serious race close enough to the speed. Skyrise is on the sharp end of the map with good position prospects. Street Lyric is also a live tempo runner, and Parthenon is the one for your exotics sweat because the gear upgrade gives him a genuine chance to sneak into the frame.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Crash Bang Wallop (No.2) — $4.00 / $1.60 🏆 4TH
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 19.5% | Place: 60.0% | Value: 1.01x
Why The map says she's in it early enough, and the place leverage is the smart part of backing her.
2. Skyrise (No.12) — $4.00 / $1.62 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.3% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.66x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Street Lyric (No.13) — $3.40 / $1.55 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.5% | Place: 55.1% | Value: 1.00x
Why Looks live for a top spot, but the value isn't singing today.
Roughie: Parthenon (No.7) — $10.00 / $2.70 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.7% | Place: 35.0% | Value: 1.38x
Why Needs a clean run and a little luck in traffic, but if he finds that gap, he's a genuine upset.
Race type: Benchmark 64, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Onmalone and Better Late around it, Forest King and Zubba Storm prominent
Punty read:
Forest King is the money horse today in terms of profile. Blinkers on and cross-over nose band off, plus he's drawn where he can stalk and not waste time. Zubba Storm is the one who gets the gun early and can keep running, which makes him dangerous even when he's a touch short. Better Late is the steady type, and Onmalone is the "if the pace is okay I'm coming" horse.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. Forest King (No.4) — $3.10 / $1.32 🏆 WINNER
Bet $14.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$29.40
Prob 25.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why Map-friendly stalk, gear change, and he has the shape to keep going through the line.
2. Zubba Storm (No.2) — $4.00 / $1.50 🏆 3RD
Bet $5.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$2.50
Prob 24.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.24x
Why If he gets to run his own race early, he's there to hold onto top-three money and sometimes more.
3. Better Late (No.6) — $3.00 / $1.30 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.78x
Why He's live but the pricing doesn't reward the bet type.
Roughie: President (No.1) — $11.00 / $2.65 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.2% | Place: 28.6% | Value: 0.86x
Why Needs the midfield run to open late, and he's the type that can get a sneaky slice of the finish.
Race type: Benchmark 64, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, You're The Choice and River Pat up in the mix, Emery and Grinzinger Pod can close
Punty read:
This is the classic mid-pack grinder where one bad spot can ruin your whole afternoon. You're The Choice profiles as the runner who can stay within range and grind away, but Emery is the value play for a reason, she's the one with the betting life without needing everything to go right. Grinzinger Pod and Ivy Diva are both live for place if they can secure position early enough, and River Pat is the outside hope for the "if the race falls apart I'm there" run.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. You're The Choice (No.6) — $2.20 / $1.15 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.00
Prob 22.3% | Place: 56.8% | Value: 0.62x
Why Short price, map pressure, and the race setup screams "don't overcomplicate it, grind it out."
2. Emery (No.8) — $7.00 / $2.20 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.8% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.58x
Why A real chance — but at $2.20 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Grinzinger Pod (No.1) — $7.00 / $2.20 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 42.8% | Value: 1.21x
Why Solid place path, but winning is harder than the price suggests.
Roughie: River Pat (No.13) — $10.00 / $2.70 🏆 4TH
Bet $3.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$3.00
Prob 13.0% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.64x
Why Needs the right race shape, but if she gets into the finish, she's exactly the sort to clunk a place.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 1,5,2 / 1,5,7 / 10,1,2 / 3,12,8 (81 combos x $0.25 = $20.25) -- 25% flexi

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Gosford's a Good 4 and the speed's doing the running early, with the rail sitting +4m for most of the day. It's the sort of track where you can get away with being brave in the first half, then you've gotta be clutch at the business end. Let's line up the day like a Wednesday night footy team list, except the punters are the ones with the injuries.
Quick spine check: I've got a Big 3 Multi that I'm building the whole morning around, then we'll go race-by-race with the Top 3 plus a roughie for when the universe feels generous.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Good 4, 1000m to 2100m card
Rail: +4m 1100m-W/Post; True Remainder
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Leaders and On-Pacers, with the odd midfield missile)
Weather: Sunny, 12°C (watch for a cold snap vibe even though it's sunny) (watch for cool, crisp finish)
Early lane guess: Get-on types close early, then let the inside runner save ground
Tempo profile: a mix day, with Races 1-4 tending a touch slower and Races 5-8 more "go, go, go, finish"
Jockeys to follow:
Chad Schofield: keeps grabbing positions and can turn a soft run into a real fight, great when there's genuine tempo.
Kerrin McEvoy: likes to pounce at Gosford, and if the race shape lines up, he makes it look easy.
Reece Jones: jumps on speed maps and doesn't overthink it, especially in the shorter sprints.
Stables to respect:
J C Waller (2 runners): knows how to have a ready-to-fire type, and when she shortens, it usually means business.
P J Kelly (1 runner): brings out the gear and the intent, the sort of setup that just needs a clean run.
Chad Lever / Brad Widdup (2 runners total across the card): these are "positioning" trainers, they set the trip and let the jockey do the rest.
Punty's take:
Gosford today feels like a track where the leaders can either control it or get pocketed, depending on who lands the right spot off the speed. Races 3, 4 and 6 scream "map matters", because at 1100m and 1000m you're basically sprinting for a living, then hoping your horse finds one extra gear. The Good 4 helps the on-pacers, and it also means you can't write off midfielders, because if they get a run through, they'll still hit the line hard.
There's plenty of market noise too. You've got the short-on support that screams "don't blink" (like Proxima Dea in Race 2 and Temptation in Race 3), and then you've got a few of those big drifters that make you wonder if someone's trying to sell you a story. I'm not buying every drift as destiny, but I am respecting it as a warning light.
Pop culture comparison? Think of today like the final quarter of a UFC card where the first few fights were feeling out, then suddenly everyone wants to make a statement. In betting terms, that means I'm backing the early leaders to do their job, then making the value plays that can swoop when the speed tires.
What it means for you:
Be aggressive in the races where the pace advantage lines up with the shorter draws and the right early style. That's why the Big 3 Multi is built around the obvious front-running types, because if they're on song, they've got that "lock the race into place" aura.
Then when we get to the trickier mid-card legs, that's where we're choosing value and place leverage. Put simply, if a horse's likely to be in the first run of the race and the market's backing it, it's there to win. If it's slightly suspect for winning but still has a live path for running top 3, that's where you go place, because it saves your bankroll from the "almost" curse.
Finally, I'm keeping the roughies to races where the price is big enough to matter and the run has a logical path, not just "hope and vibes". We're degens, not mugs.
