Rightio Loose Units, Bunbury on a Good 4 with the rail true, and the track feeling like it's gonna reward the horse who gets first dibs at the good ground. Today's not a day for being cute, it's a day for stalking the speed, salivating at place value, and chucking a couple of roughies in the tote like a chaotic mate at the TAB.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Bunbury, Sprint and middle distance card, 1000m to 1675m
Rail: True
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Speed vs Stamina, leaders not getting run down)
Weather: Mostly sunny, 11°C, humidity 61%, wind ENE, watch for a bit of gusty, nippy air late
Early lane guess: Early speed over dream tracking, keep an eye on the ones who can hold a position early without doing a full cardio session
Tempo profile: Mostly genuine to moderate tempo, so if you're backmarkers on a good day, you better have a finish plan
Jockeys to follow:
Brad Parnham: multiple runners in the sweet spots, plus he knows how to park and pounce when the race shapes
Paul Harvey: gets plenty of chances, and when he lands the sit, things tend to happen
Jason Whiting: steady hand, often puts them in the right part of the track at the right time
Stables to respect:
D R Harrison (3 runners): horses are showing up with the right tactical intent, and they keep producing competitive runs
N D Parnham (2 runners): watch for their midfielders, they often come alive late when the leaders start travelling
Ryan Hill (2 runners): the sort of stable that can turn a messy prep into a sharp maiden hit, especially at Bunbury

Punty's take:

This meeting screams "get position early or suffer". The Good 4 with a true rail usually means the leaders get to steal a little bit of air, and the ones who can sit within striking distance get every chance to do the job themselves. Pace is king, but it's the kind of pace where you don't need to lead, you just need to be within the first few strokes of the action.

I'm building a spine today with three horses that map into their races, and then I'm backing them with the kind of place leverage that keeps you alive when the favourite wins or when the race turns into chaos for everyone else. Race 1 is a straight-up clash between the obvious speed-and-class types, Race 6 is a handicap where the leader should get first crack, and Race 2 is where you want to be on the front of the market but also respectful of the value runners sneaking into the placings.

And yeah, I'm not going to pretend I'm allergic to roughies. I'm just allergic to backing the wrong kind of roughie. If the horse has a real path to the front or the inside run opens late, then it's fair game. If they're just big odds with vibes, they can stay in the dunce corner.

What it means for you:

Your best shot today is place betting in the races where the leaders lock in. When you see horses firming and drawing sensible spots relative to the tempo, the win is there, but the place is where the money stays friendlier. So, protect your ticket with the Top 3 lines in each race, then sprinkle the roughie when the setup actually makes sense.

In the chaos lanes, you don't need to go full hero mode. You just need to cover enough runners that one weird turn or one lucky run to the outside doesn't wreck your day. Bunbury can be a "one-swing" track, so if the race shape goes a touch different, you still want your ticket to be in the finish.

Alright, let's line these up, and hopefully we get the sort of day where your mates ask "how the hell did you see that?" while you calmly pretend you didn't.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Salve Regina (Race 1, No.4) — $3.35
Why drawn well and expected to sit handy on a genuine 1000m, the rail helps the whole plan
2 - Lets Take A Chance (Race 2, No.4) — $2.27
Why sits in the right rhythm for a slow tempo, and the market loves the way this goes
3 - Swansee (Race 6, No.6) — $4.10
Why genuine leader profile on the handicap map, and she should be hard to run down late

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~ $31.00 = ~ $310.00 collect

Race 1 – Members Appreciation Day Mdn

Race type: Maiden, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, leaders in the fight early, and the tempo should keep it honest

Punty read:

Hard to ignore and dreamlord types scream speed on paper, but here's the thing, Bunbury 1000m on a Good 4, the ones who can actually hold a position in that first bite of the race get rewarded. Salve Regina (No.4) looks like the sharpest "park in the right place" horse, and Modern Girl is the market favourite for a reason, she's got the profile to be in the first cluster and not get caught doing too much. Where's Timmy is the chaos wobble, long break but can still run on if she gets a crack at traffic. After The Reign is the roughie version of the same story, keep your eyes peeled if the speed pops and tires.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Salve Regina (No.4) — $3.35 / $1.55
Bet $15.00 Win, return $50.25
Prob 30.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.16x
Why the right kind of speed profile for 1000m, plus she's set up to be in the finish picture, not watching it
2. Modern Girl (No.5) — $2.38 / $1.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 30.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.06x
Why too short for place at this price range, save the dollars for races with more spread
3. Where's Timmy (No.3) — $8.40 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.8% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.01x
Why wide draw and a long break are fine for a run, but she needs traffic luck to hit the board

Roughie: After The Reign (No.9) — $11.50 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.0% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.95x
Why she's there if the race goes odd, but this isn't the kind of roughie to force into the main pool

Race 2 – David Williams Mdn

Race type: Maiden, 1675m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so midfield can be dangerous and the right timing matters

Punty read:

1675m maiden at Bunbury with a slow tempo means one thing, the race usually sorts itself late. You want a horse that can sit without burning the tank, then roll forward when the field stretches. Lets Take A Chance (No.4) is the clear tactical one, and the market's backing it for a reason. Delicate Warrior is the sneaky value place play, she's the sort that can grab a position and hold it through the middle. Field Mistress is in the mix too, especially if the tempo stays slow enough that nobody comes sprinting midrace. New Discovery is a "maybe flier" type, but this is one of those races where you don't chase at $10 unless the run is clean and the movement lines up.

Top 3 + Roughie ($22.50 pool)

1. Lets Take A Chance (No.4) — $2.27 / $1.25
Bet $10.00 Win, return $22.70
Prob 31.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.11x
Why slow pace means you can stalk, and she's built for the late pick-up when others are spent
2. Delicate Warrior (No.1) — $4.30 / $1.70
Bet $9.50 Place, return $16.15
Prob 21.0% | Place: 63.8% | Value: 1.46x
Why real place leverage with enough early position to get a run at the finish
3. Field Mistress (No.10) — $4.70 / $1.82
Bet $3.00 Place, return $5.46
Prob 15.5% | Place: 54.3% | Value: 1.30x
Why the sort that can keep grinding, and in slow-tempo races, grinders cash in

Roughie: New Discovery (No.11) — $10.10 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.3% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 0.87x
Why nice name, but she's not the right roughie unless the race completely falls apart

Race 3 – Alec Jeffery Mdn

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow tempo, so the early lanes and the late run matter more than the first 100m flash

Punty read:

This is the chaos handicap vibe in a maiden suit, slow pace means anything on pace can hold up, anything with a clean run can surge late, and a few horses will get stuck behind the wrong bunch. I like Long Laugh (No.1) because the profile screams "presents when it matters", and the price is fair enough to take the win route, not just hope for a minor cheque. Oscars No Grouch is right there if he gets space and can travel into the straight. Spinarella is a live wire at this price, she can easily get into the right pocket and hold on for a place if the pace doesn't collapse too hard. Divorce Settlement is the roughie, she's got a value storyline for the placings if the run comes from the right direction.

Top 3 + Roughie ($18.50 pool)

1. Long Laugh (No.1) — $5.10 / $2.00
Bet $14.50 Each Way ($7.25W + $7.25P), return $36.97 (wins) / $14.50 (places)
Prob 14.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.33x
Why slow tempo suits, and she's got the speed profile to stay involved without being pressured
2. Oscars No Grouch (No.2) — $5.10 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.8% | Place: 67.0% | Value: 0.81x
Why keep it clean, the model already covered the risk with the main EW
3. Spinarella (No.14) — $4.70 / $2.00
Bet $4.00 Place, return $8.00
Prob 14.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.50x
Why shorter price for a reason, she can slot and run on, and place markets are forgiving

Roughie: Divorce Settlement (No.7) — $10.10 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.0% | Place: 39.9% | Value: 0.98x
Why this is the type that can get a clean late run, and if she does, the place dividend gets spicy

Race 4 – Raelene Butler Mdn

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, so speed retention is the whole game

Punty read:

On a genuine pace 1400m, you can usually feel it, the horses out wide either have to do too much early or hope the leaders get ragged. State Of Boom (No.9) is the standout here, and the map says he should get his chance without having to sprint through molasses. Fortunate Spirit is right in the speed lane too, if she can hold her position and not get shuffled off the plan, she can absolutely run a race that makes punters grin. Noneofyourbusiness is the value third horse for place, and you should be thinking exacta or trifecta with the right shape, because the finish order can be pretty lockstep when the pace stays honest. Kutenai is the longshot angle, but this is one of those where you respect the leaders first.

Top 3 + Roughie ($20.50 pool)

1. State Of Boom (No.9) — $3.85 / $1.70
Bet $17.00 Each Way ($8.50W + $8.50P), return $32.73 (wins) / $14.45 (places)
Prob 22.5% | Place: 59.4% | Value: 1.49x
Why leader-ish without being forced, and 1400m on a true tempo can suit a controlled grind
2. Noneofyourbusiness (No.11) — $5.35 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.0% | Place: 53.4% | Value: 0.66x
Why let State Of Boom do the heavy lifting, then protect the place with the main plays
3. Fortunate Spirit (No.3) — $4.05 / $1.72
Bet $3.50 Place, return $6.02
Prob 14.7% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.34x
Why speed in the right spot, and if the race stays genuine, she keeps fighting to the line

Roughie: Kutenai (No.15) — $9.10 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.7% | Place: 29.1% | Value: 1.07x
Why can run on, but this looks like a leaders-and-travel-lane sort of afternoon

Race 5 – Wendy O'Reilly Mdn

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so the middle section is where it gets decided

Punty read:

1400m maidens can get sneaky, if the pace is moderate the whole field is basically hunting position without going full psychopath. Win For Buster (No.1) has the blueprint, and Cape Churchill (No.13) is the danger if the market keeps backing him into a better run. Bazaactly is a place-and-pray type at this stage, but he can easily make contact off a midfield run and hold on. Ocean Reef is the roughie, but with a backmarker profile, you need the track to hand out late gaps like it's feeling generous. The main point is, Cape Churchill is firming and Win For Buster sits right in the right rhythm, so you treat both as "gettable" without needing a miracle.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Win For Buster (No.1) — $5.35 / $2.00
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), return $34.77 (wins) / $13.00 (places)
Prob 19.0% | Place: 55.3% | Value: 1.19x
Why the set-up is right for a midfield journey, and the pace profile gives him time to wind up
2. Cape Churchill (No.13) — $3.80 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.7% | Place: 60.3% | Value: 1.19x
Why model already covered this with the EW winner, no need to double dip
3. Bazaactly (No.6) — $5.95 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.6% | Place: 29.5% | Value: 0.62x
Why he's in the trifecta chatter, but not strong enough for a place stake

Roughie: Ocean Reef (No.5) — $9.60 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.3% | Place: 19.2% | Value: 0.49x
Why big gap runner, but it's hard work at 1400m if the midfield doesn't get a crack

Race 6 – Swan Draught Hcp (C3)

Race type: Handicap, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with honest leaders, so front running and near-front position are gold

Punty read:

This is a proper little sprint handicap where the map matters hard. Swansee (No.6) looks like the one who gets the best run possible, she maps as the leader and the sort of horse who doesn't need everything to go her way to finish in front. King Brew is the other pole position in the sand, and if the leaders duel and it turns into a knife fight, Cinque Stelle could pop into the place spots. Reconnaissance is a live inclusion for the right timing, but the big question is how much the pace collapses in the last 200. If it stays steady, Swansee and King Brew are the money lanes.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Swansee (No.6) — $4.10 / $1.72
Bet $10.50 Win, return $43.05
Prob 28.7% | Place: 62.4% | Value: 1.57x
Why leader type in a sprint handicap, and the Good 4 rail helps horses who can keep straight and balanced
2. King Brew (No.1) — $6.50 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.3% | Place: 35.8% | Value: 1.67x
Why place is still live, but this price band is slightly rude for the saver move
3. Cinque Stelle (No.8) — $3.10 / $1.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.7% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 0.61x
Why speed is there, but not the right place leverage at this number

Roughie: Superb Vintage (No.10) — $10.80 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 25.2% | Value: 1.24x
Why he needs a perfect run and the leaders to overcook it, roughie path only

Race 7 – Real Punters Play Here TABtouch Hcp (C5)

Race type: Handicap, 1675m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, with runners able to progress early and still get home

Punty read:

Longer handicap at 1675m, so it's about who can hold position early without being trapped, then accelerate when others are busy trying to survive. Our Mate Archie (No.1) looks the one with the cleanest tactical picture, midfield without getting buried and the sort to keep finding. Sisu Spirit is the class and value angle for place, and Eternal Romance is right there if the race keeps genuine. Take A Leaf is also a live runner, especially for a place crack. Bondi Bay is the roughie lane, but the outside chaos means you need luck and room, and that's not free at Bunbury.

Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)

1. Our Mate Archie (No.1) — $4.20 / $1.75
Bet $13.50 Each Way ($6.75W + $6.75P), return $28.35 (wins) / $11.81 (places)
Prob 19.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.12x
Why he's got the right spot in the tempo, and longer handicaps suit the horses who travel well
2. Take A Leaf (No.11) — $5.00 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.3% | Place: 51.2% | Value: 1.05x
Why save the stake, the model already got you covered with the EW winner
3. Sisu Spirit (No.2) — $6.75 / $2.40
Bet $6.00 Place, return $14.40
Prob 13.8% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.28x
Why this is the sort who can keep grinding through the middle and hit the line right

Roughie: Bondi Bay (No.6) — $33.00 / $7.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.4% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 1.09x
Why needs a big run from midfield and a racing room miracle

Race 8 – Join The Club - Become A Member Hcp (C1)

Race type: Handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so tactical positioning still matters but the finish can get messy

Punty read:

This is your "who's getting traffic luck" race, and unfortunately, traffic luck is the most expensive kind. Miss Defies Me (No.7) is the one I want, she looks like she can get involved early enough to make the run on the inside or just off it. Barney Rommel is the value place play, and she's the type to keep coming if the pace is steady. Buderim is the other place option who can keep grinding. Dominant Force is the roughie type, but as always, longshots in C1 at 1400m need more than one thing to go their way.

Top 3 + Roughie ($22.50 pool)

1. Miss Defies Me (No.7) — $5.60 / $2.15
Bet $15.50 Each Way ($7.75W + $7.75P), return $43.40 (wins) / $16.66 (places)
Prob 17.7% | Place: 55.6% | Value: 1.38x
Why can sit in the right part of the field and doesn't need the stars to align, just the run
2. Buderim (No.5) — $4.65 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 0.96x
Why place leverage is tempting, but this price setup says keep the stake on the EW winner
3. Barney Rommel (No.4) — $8.70 / $3.00
Bet $7.00 Place, return $21.00
Prob 12.1% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.47x
Why value place bet with the ability to keep coming late if he gets a clean lane

Roughie: Dominant Force (No.12) — $9.40 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 26.8% | Value: 0.99x
Why roughie path means everything has to line up perfectly, and that's not free

SEQUENCE LANES

EARLY QUADDIE (R1–R4)

Smart: 4,5,3,9 / 4,1,10,11 / 1,14,2,7 / 9,11,3,15 (256 combos x $0.10 = $25.60) -- 10% flexi
One-line commentary on leg shapes and risk level: Two early legs are clear-ish, but R3 and R4 are open enough that you need coverage, entertainment with a backbone.

QUADDIE (R5–R8)

Smart: 13,1,6,5 / 6,8,1,10 / 1,11,2,3 / 7,5,4,12 (256 combos x $0.12 = $32.00) -- 12% flexi
One-line commentary on leg shapes and risk level: Wide open at the back end, you're buying enough rows to survive the chaos, still not a sledgehammer.

BIG 6 (R3–R8)

Smart: 1 / 9 / 1 / 6 / 1 / 7 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2.00) -- 200% flexi
One-line commentary on leg shapes and risk level: Too many open races for a real bite, this is for the punting bragging rights when it lands.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Blinkers and tongue ties are doing heavy lifting today
When you see multiple first-time gear flips in the early races, it usually means stable intent, not just "let's try it", so pay attention to those horses in the lane positions.

2 - Place is the cleanest game all day, especially where pace is honest
In Good 4 sprints and middle distances, horses that can sit without being forced are cashing at place time, and you want to be on them before the crowd decides.

3 - Bunbury 1000m: the winner often looks boring on the way past
If a horse can hold a position around the first bend and not get shuffled into the worst part of the pack, that's the blueprint, flashy start to flashy win is rarely needed.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

If your ticket's too small for your ego, you're doing it wrong, but if it's too big for your bankroll, you're doing it even more wrong. Back your lanes, trust the map, and let the finish sort the legends. Gamble Responsibly.
