This is one of those tracks where the horses that get a comfy run, cling on, and suddenly everyone's claiming they 'always liked it'. Me? I'm here to make the mistakes early, and the cash later.

We've got pace sitting there, but it's a tricky kind. On a Soft 6, the leaders can go around corners looking brave, then the finish comes and the real fighters start picking off the tired legs. So you want to be with the map, the jockey intent, and the gear tweaks that say the stable is having a serious crack.

Punty's take:

Corowa Soft 6 is a proper "run the race, don't just watch it" track. The rail is true, so you're not guaranteed the miracle path, which means you gotta respect the horses that actually get position without burning their legs. In these conditions, if you're stuck three wide with no cover for too long, you pay for it. Even the best ones start to look at the ground like they're reading the menu.

The big theme across the meeting is gear changes and map fit. In Race 1, Rose Diamond has the profile to do the heavy lifting in a maiden-hcp, while Son Of Rubick brings blinkers and that often turns "in the race" into "in the fight". In the mid card, you can see the stables are chasing the Soft timing, with enough on-pace types to keep the speed honest.

Then you've got my spine bets, Winsilence, Triptolemus, Bombay Boom. Different races, same story, they look like they've got the right kind of class to deal with a wet track and a scrappy tempo, and they've got the maps to avoid the stuff that ruins your day.

Rose Diamond's the one they keep coming back to, and with her on-pace speed, she doesn't need favours to be in it. Bennelong Dreams has the leader role on paper, but on Soft 6, the first job is getting the right rhythm, and that usually costs leaders a bit late. I'm watching Son Of Rubick for that "still there at the 100m" effect, blinkers first time is often the switch to stop coasting. Mount Ogilvie has the map to be around the speed too, and she's got excuses stacked up from wide trips, so if the gaps show, she can steal it.

This is a pace puzzle. With it slow, you want the horse that can sit handy without burning, then unleash late without being swallowed by the pack. Vasala is the class and the map, and she's got the best kind of draw to go forward without doing overtime. Without Fail looks like the one to take place pressure with, visors first time is often a "see the race" move and that matters on Soft. Rip Current is right in the mix on pace, but it's the type of race where one or two extra lengths in the wrong moment kills your Win, hence why I'm only letting him ride as a watch.

European is a fair outsider profile, but in maiden sprints on Soft, you're backing the ones who don't rely on a magic run.

Willingham and Lord Of Valor can get into the mix, but I'm not overthinking it, this is a speed track for the right types and Bombay Boom is the cleanest map match.

Chief Of War can be good, but this isn't the kind of race where I want to be paying for a story late, unless the speed collapses and someone drops into the perfect lane.

1 - Soft 6 rail true still needs lanes
Even with the rail true, Soft tracks punish horses for stuck positions, so the ones that can travel without grinding wide are the value winners.

2 - The place market is doing some heavy lifting today
When you see blinkers or visors first time in the mid card, it often pushes them into the money, that's why I'm leaning on place leverage in the right races.

3 - Watch for the "tempo trap" races
Race 2's slow 1600m and Race 7's 1200m both look like they can spring a tactical finish, so if you see one leader striding away early, keep an eye on the ones about to hit the line, that's where the chaos lives.
