✓ WON +$22 Final

Race type: Maiden, 1660m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, backmarkers have the first job, then it turns into a staying-on war
Punty read: Ancestral has blinkers first time and that is usually the "alright cunt, do it properly" switch. With the pace slow, these longer races can turn into a chess match, where the horse that gets clear first gets the chocolates.
Deals is interesting too because his last run excuse is legit, held up and slow start, so he's sitting on that "could improve fast once clear" ladder. Bacetti is your grinder for the exotics, but this race is more about who gets the galloping room at the right time.

★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Ancestral (No.5) — $2.50 / $1.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$22.50
Prob 36.5% | Place: 60.6% | Value: 1.22x

✓ WON +$8 Final

Race type: Maiden, 1660m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, low-speed procession, then the finish decides everything
Punty read: Great Times Ahead has the perfect setup, he's drawn in and he's the type to stalk just off the action, then reel them in when the sting goes. Spirit of Torque is the danger because she stays in the fight and the Soft 5 tends to let those mid-pack runners keep grinding.
Hells Rein is a live roughie, but the reason I'm not getting cute is simple, this race looks like it belongs to the better maps horse, not the "hope the wheels fall off" plan.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, speed advantaged types, but Soft 5 makes it a slog
Punty read: This is a chaos handicap style maiden, basically, you need a horse who can handle the middle distance pressure and still sprint clean. Hell Or Heaven is the standout for a reason, he's built for a Soft 5, and he's the type that can hold tempo just well enough.
The Aviator is the danger because he has the midfield credentials and can win if the leaders cough up. Reconciliate is your "don't ignore me" type because he keeps finding the line, especially when the field has to carry the mud.

✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, with pace advantaged runners primed to hit the line late
Punty read: Budda Bar is my kind of favourite, he's got the stalking mechanics and the sort of Soft 5 style that doesn't panic. Esnaad looks like the next one because he's ready to be competitive and he's not a "hopeless on debut" type. Astern Effort is the honest grinder, but this race belongs to the horses who can sit in the right lane without getting swallowed by the mud.
And yeah, Hit A Lick can absolutely cause trouble if the race gets run a bit and he gets first crack at the tired front runners.

Race type: BM68, 1350m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, so the leaders get tested and the race opens up late
Punty read: This is a proper run, no hiding. Gaultier should be right in the thick of it because he maps with the right kind of pressure, and Kokatahi is the one that can keep going, Soft 5 grind and all. Smoke On The Water is right in that "place chances are strong, win isn't silly" lane.
I'm watching the dynamics, if Vermilion Kirin tries to press too hard on the front, the race turns into a finish-line lottery for whoever holds their feet.

Punty read: This one is a big "who gets the best trip" race. Lebanese is my favourite style-wise because he sits where the race opens up on Soft 5, and he's not afraid to keep coming. Ready For Aimee is the main threat if he gets clear and starts running early.
Don't Doubt Missy is the one that can hang onto a piece, but I'm treating this like a Lebanese job with backup.

Punty read: Toro Strike is the speed story, and Bingi is the value with the best map. The danger is Wounder, who can keep grinding into the placings and makes the quinella trifecta chaos look attractive. Cantarito is the roughie-type profile too, but this looks like a race where the leaders dictate the tempo and the rest chase.

Race type: Handicap, 1110m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, short sprint where positioning off the gate decides everything
Punty read: Boss Mode is the one I want at the front of the race story. At 1110m, you don't get multiple chances, so if he jumps well and travels, he's hard to dispose of. No Fooling and Sort Cha Mess are next best and can absolutely fight him in the last part of the track. Divine Source and Podium Star are the "respect but don't overreach" types, because this race gets messy if runners get held up.

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Degenerates, Doomben's throwing up a proper Good 4 battleground with the rail +10m and a crosswind that'll bully the wide chasers. Pace looks slow-ish early, so if you're off the speed you're doing extra work, like trying to open a jar with one finger. We're chasing value where it's live, and being ruthless where the favs look too hard to ignore.

Let's talk track reality first. With that gusty NNE, wide routes can get a bit of a "why am I here" moment, so I'm leaning into runners that can settle in range and get clear without having to wind up like a lawnmower. The rails +10m helps the "have a plan" horses, not the ones that need magic.

On top of that, the day sets up with a few "clean" lanes early, then the middle races start asking you to widen your thoughts. I've got a Big 3 spine built off the strongest win profiles, then I'm adding roughies where the map and recent form scream, "this price is begging to be clicked."

What it means for you: if you're a set-and-forget punter, you can ride it straight with the Big 3. If you're a chaos merchant who still wants returns, you'll love the roughie paths in the maidens and the BM fields where the shape is doing the heavy lifting.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Good 4, 1110m-1660m card
Rail: +10m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Race 1-2 tight and Midfield-friendly, then wider lanes open up later)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 23°C, wind 27km/h NNE, gusts 31.5km/h (watch for crosswind impacts on wide runners)
Early lane guess: Banker-heavy early, then Quaddie needs backbone in R6-R8
Tempo profile: Slow to moderate early, so positions matter and gaps can appear late
Jockeys to follow:
Ben Thompson: big involvement today, and he's been finding the right moments
Michael Rodd: keeps things moving, and his mounts are often in the right part of the race
Ms Bella Youngberry: from the stats she's a place machine, and today looks like it's built for her style
Stables to respect:
T J Gollan (11 runners): consistent strike rate and usually has them ready to ping
C J Waller (9 runners): class factor and pattern speed, especially through the maidens
Stuart & Bayley Kendrick (4 runners): not always the headline act, but they've been landing the right targets

Punty's take:

Doomben on a Good 4 with a +10m rail usually rewards horses that don't need to do the extra lap of hard labour. In the early maidens, there's a theme: slow-ish pace means stalking trips and controlled runs are gold. That's why the Race 1 favourite type is getting my attention. Ancestral just profiles like the one who lands the right run, then turns it into a clean hit.

Race 2 is your "stamp of approval" act. Great Times Ahead maps like it's built to get the job done early, and the price still has legs. When a horse is winning-minded and the field shape is slow, it often turns into an "are we really going to let this guy get around?" scenario. We're not letting him get around in peace.

Then Race 3 and Race 4? That's where the day starts getting naughty. Fleeting Boom and Budda Bar both have the kind of profile that can hit before you've even finished second-guessing yourself. And on Doomben, once you've got the right spot, you can actually hold on to it.

What it means for you:

  1. Bet the spine (Big 3) like you mean it, because it's built from the strongest win chances across different race shapes.
  2. Use the roughies as "shape leverage", not gut feel. The roughies today are there because the map and recent performances fit, not because they're big numbers and vibes.
3) For sequences, the early lanes are tight and efficient. The later ones get wider, because R6-R8 are where randomness starts wearing a trenchcoat.
