Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Geraldton, head to https://punty.ai/tips/geraldton-2026-10-22
Rightio Loose Units, Geraldton's running a Good 4 with the rail +4m and the wind giving it that 'someone left the front door open at the pub' energy. No rain yet, but by around 11pm the radar's been acting like a drunken mate waving a lighter. So today is about sticking to the horses who handle the surface, sit handy, and dont panic when the tempo gets a bit cheeky.
Now, my big spine is a simple one, Snippety Legend in Race 1, Just Petty Cash in Race 2, Miss Ajax in Race 3. Then we build the lanes with the late races too, because Quaddie logic is like the last chips in the bag. Everyone wants them, and someone always stirs the pot. If you get the first three legs right, you're cooking. If you get cute, you're paying for the privilege.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Good 4, 1213m-1619m card
Rail: +4m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Speed vs Stamina)
Weather: Fine, gusts 33.3km/h (watch for late rain risk)
Early lane guess: Leaning for on-pace to pinch the shorts
Tempo profile: Mostly genuine, leaders get every chance, but mid-race positioning matters a ton
Jockeys to follow:
Laqdar Ramoly: busy hoop, and he rides into the better part of the race more often than not
Jason Li: steady finisher type, good when the field stretches
Jefferson Tsang: keeps finding the path, especially when the market firms late
Stables to respect:
R K Cowl (7 runners): usually not shy to back their horses early on
G W Hammarquist (5 runners): tends to have them ready when the rail and wind suit
Ms J Martin (5 runners): strong presence across the card, often a value angle
Punty's take:
This track with the rail out +4m is basically saying, 'Come on then, have a go.' The good news is that it's still a Good 4, so it should reward clean running, no big drama, and horses who can hold their position into the home straight. The wind might bounce a few, but it also keeps things honest early. When they go at a genuine clip, the ones stalking the leaders get fed.
Race 1 is a classic. Snippety Legend looks like the one to get the trip, and Divine Inanna is right there as the pressure valve. Prince Ragnar might be overpriced for what he's done recently, but the excuses are interference-heavy, so he's the kind of bloke who can snipe late if the favourites get marbles.
Race 2, you've got Just Petty Cash drawing the right line and running like she knows where the line is. Miss Ajax in Race 3 is the anchor early too, but the chaos money is Satin Bow, she's the type to lob in if the front end gets too cocky.
What it means for you:
Be aggressive early, then play smarter with the later legs. In the first half of the card, I want to attack win-side where the selections are short enough to hold their ground. In the back half, it's about pace maps and which horses can actually carry their speed through the last bit, especially over 1413m when the wind has everyone slightly off their breathing rhythm.
For your race-day plan: lock your Big 3 spine, then use the Quaddie lanes to survive the chaos. Races 4 and 7 are where things can go wrong fast, because there's enough quality and enough running styles that one bad jump, one stuck-in-the-mud trip, and you're watching your ticket turn into a learning experience.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
1 - Snippety Legend (Race 1, No.2) — $1.95
Why Maps midfield, strong finishing profile, and she's the market's main character for a reason.
2 - Just Petty Cash (Race 2, No.7) — $2.00
Why On the pace with a slick path, plus the place confidence is massive when the field jostles.
3 - Miss Ajax (Race 3, No.11) — $1.95
Why Backmarker profile that still knows where the line is, and she can pinch a top spot if the speed cooks.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~8.00 = ~$80.00 collect
Race 1 – TABtouch (Bm70+), Prince Ragnar gets the microphone
Race type: HANDICAP, 1413m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Prince Ragnar (No.1) to lead, Snippety Legend (No.2) midfield pressure, Divine Inanna (No.4) on-pace keeping it honest
Punty read: This is a speed vs manners race on a Good 4 with the rail out. Snippety Legend (No.2) is the one I want because she lands in that sweet midfield lane where the leaders come back to her and she can sprint off the bridle. Divine Inanna (No.4) is the other danger, she's got the on-pace map and the track has suited. Prince Ragnar is the one you respect, interference-heavy excuses mean he can bounce up and run a cheeky race, but he's got to get the run without wrestling the wind.
Top 3 + Roughie (24 pool)
1. Snippety Legend (No.2) — $2.05 / $1.95
Bet $12.72 Win, return $26.08
Prob 39.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.06x Steady since tip
Why Midfield and can clock them from the turn, the sort of mare who benefits when the front half is genuine.
2. Divine Inanna (No.4) — $3.50 / $1.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.8% | Place: 36.4% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Mocha Dream (No.5) — $7.50 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.23x Steady since tip
Why This is the value angle, and if the speed collapses she's the one swooping through.
Roughie: Bayhara (No.6) — $17.00 / $4.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.5% | Place: 8.7% | Value: 1.00x Steady since tip
Why Roughie path is simple, backmarkers need a scramble and some jocks to misplace their trips.
Race 2 – Hahn 3.5 Mdn, Just Petty Cash is the main squeeze
Race type: MAIDEN, 1413m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Just Petty Cash (No.7) to be on-pace early, Diver Dan (No.2) midfield stalker, the long list to fill the gaps
Punty read: Maidens at this distance turn into a chess match, but you still need position. Just Petty Cash (No.7) is drawn where she can race confident early, and she's got that on-pace profile that stops you from guessing. Diver Dan (No.2) is your saver type, and Andershine (No.4) is there for the trifecta of chaos. The biggest danger is everyone getting too stuck in traffic in the middle, so I want the horses that can move at the right time.
Top 3 + Roughie (13 pool)
1. Just Petty Cash (No.7) — $2.05 / $1.22
Bet $13.00 Win, return $26.65
Prob 38.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.12x Steady since tip
Why She has the on-pace map and the bar for winning looks achievable, this is where she should be strong late.
2. Diver Dan (No.2) — $5.00 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.1% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 1.53x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Andershine (No.4) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why Her place credentials are solid, but this looks like a job for the shorter-priced types.
Roughie: Alot Of Desire (No.3) — $10.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 32.8% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why He needs something to fall apart early, roughies are about the scramble, not the neat run.
Race 3 – Courtney Keeffe Elders Real Estate Mdn, Miss Ajax the line snatcher
Race type: MAIDEN, 1213m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, with Open Throttle (No.1) going forward, and Miss Ajax (No.11) charging late from back
Punty read: Shorter trip, more pressure, fewer chances to get comfortable. Open Throttle might lead, but the race is decided by who can hit the straight running. Miss Ajax (No.11) is drawn as a backmarker and still has the class profile to make a late charge that counts, that's why she's the anchor. Perfect Score (No.6) is the other one for the podium, and Northern Diamond (No.3) is a pace-on type who can sit nearby and keep grinding. Then Satin Bow is your chaos button.
Top 3 + Roughie (13 pool)
1. Miss Ajax (No.11) — $2.00 / $1.22
Bet $13.00 Win, return $26.00
Prob 35.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.97x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker who can still hit the line, and at this distance the leaders do some of the work for her.
2. Perfect Score (No.6) — $3.80 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.24x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Northern Diamond (No.3) — $4.00 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.09x Steady since tip
Why On-pace, keeps the pressure on, and if the tempo is real she's right there.
Roughie: Satin Bow (No.13) — $26.00 / $4.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.8% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 2.46x Steady since tip
Why Needs that chaos sprint finish, but if it comes she's got the profile to be flying late.
Race 4 – Con's Liquor Geraldton Hcp (C2), Truly Gallant leads the dance
Race type: HANDICAP, 1619m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Truly Gallant (No.2) midfielder, Sky River (No.9) on-pace stalk, with Aldezor (No.3) pushing through midfield
Punty read: This is the sort of 1619m where one horse gets a lovely position and suddenly everyone else has to do extra work. Truly Gallant (No.2) looks like he'll get his chance, map factor suits, and the trainer profile is consistent. Aldezor (No.3) is the main threat, and Sky River (No.9) is your pocket rocket type, on-pace enough to keep buying ground. The danger is the off-map horses who can only win if the race goes a certain way, which is why I'm not overcomplicating it.
Top 3 + Roughie (10.50 pool)
1. Truly Gallant (No.2) — $2.85 / $1.45
Bet $10.50 Win, return $29.93
Prob 27.8% | Place: 59.0% | Value: 1.22x Steady since tip
Why A classier run style for this trip, and the market is getting it, he can control the race tempo from just off the speed.
2. Aldezor (No.3) — $6.00 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.47x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Sky River (No.9) — $4.80 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.2% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why On-pace but price looks tough, I'd rather take the value from the top two.
Roughie: Noble Touch (No.7) — $11.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.4% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.42x Steady since tip
Why Roughie path is the classic, if the race tightens up mid-straight she can run over the top of fading types.
Race 5 – West Coast Drilling & Civil Hcp (C1), Annie Warbucks might be the key
Race type: HANDICAP, 1113m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Extra Zero (No.1) to lead, Flaming Dragon (No.2) and Weaponize (No.12) battling for position
Punty read: 1113m is all about where you are at the half-run and how quickly you can switch on. This field is dense, and the place options are messy. My favourite is Annie Warbucks (No.6) because she's got the on-pace profile and the numbers line up for a solid showing at sprint speed. Caleb (No.4) is the other one, he's the type who can pop late if the pace steadies. Weaponize (No.12) is value to snag a place, and Flaming Dragon (No.2) is the roughie button, especially if she finds rails or timing.
Top 3 + Roughie (12 pool)
1. Annie Warbucks (No.6) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet $7.00 Win, return $35.00
Prob 15.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.09x Steady since tip
Why On-pace chance at the sprint trip, if she doesn't get stuck she can power through the line.
2. Caleb (No.4) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.16x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Weaponize (No.12) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.10x Steady since tip
Why Back end speed can pay in a hurry, but needs the race to set up.
Roughie: Flaming Dragon (No.2) — $11.00 / $3.20
Bet $5.00 Place, return $16.00
Prob 10.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.64x Steady since tip
Why Place is the sweet spot, she just needs to be rolling when the others start breathing out.
Race 6 – Kirrilee Warr MLA (Bm58+), Catch Carter runs the show
Race type: HANDICAP, 1113m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Catch Carter (No.3) to lead, Fire The Guard (No.1) midfield and Becalotti (No.2) on-pace tracking, Clever Combat (No.9) can swoop
Punty read: This is a short-course battleground, the leaders get rewarded when they see daylight. Catch Carter (No.3) is drawn to be prominent and he's built for this kind of contest. Fire The Guard (No.1) is the one who can give chase and not fold. Becalotti (No.2) is right there too, and Clever Combat (No.9) is the value roughie for the exotics if the pace turns into a sprint war.
Top 3 + Roughie (10.50 pool)
1. Catch Carter (No.3) — $2.60 / $1.32
Bet $10.50 Win, return $27.30
Prob 31.6% | Place: 59.8% | Value: 1.11x Steady since tip
Why Lead map and he can keep travelling, if he gets into a rhythm he's hard to toss.
2. Fire The Guard (No.1) — $5.00 / $1.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.0% | Place: 50.5% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.82 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Becalotti (No.2) — $7.50 / $2.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.15x Steady since tip
Why On-pace enough to be dangerous, but I prefer the win power of the top pick.
Roughie: Clever Combat (No.9) — $13.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 29.8% | Value: 1.47x Steady since tip
Why Roughie path is pure timing, needs the sprint war and a gap in the right lane.
Race 7 – Melbourne Cup Day Marquee Tickets On Sale (Bm58+), Cantilever aims at the line
Race type: HANDICAP, 1413m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Cantilever (No.1) and Giles (No.2) on-pacing, Forbidden Apple (No.5) midfield and Dutch Por (No.4) the stalker
Punty read: 1413m is where you see who's actually switched on for the final straight. Cantilever (No.1) is the anchor, he's got the on-pace profile and the draw is perfect for taking control without getting buried. Giles (No.2) is the other one, and What's The Point (No.3) is live when the race stretches and someone wants to run over the top. Forbidden Apple (No.5) is the market-respecting outsider in the mix, but Dutch Por (No.4) is your roughie swing if things turn into a tactical dogfight.
Top 3 + Roughie (13 pool)
1. Cantilever (No.1) — $4.00 / $1.72
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), return $26.00 (wins) / $11.18 (places)
Prob 24.6% | Place: 66.2% | Value: 1.32x Steady since tip
Why He gets into the race early, and the longer trip means his controlled tempo pays off late.
2. Giles (No.2) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.1% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 1.10x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. What's The Point (No.3) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.4% | Place: 54.0% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why Solid runner profile, but price makes it harder to justify the extra stake.
Roughie: Dutch Por (No.4) — $10.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why Needs the tactical scramble, roughie path is he gets a position switch and the leaders tire.
SEQUENCE LANES
Quaddie (R4-R7)
Smart: 2,3,9,7 / 4,6,12,2 / 3,1,2,9 / 1,2,3,4 (256 combos x $0.10 = $25.00) -- 10% flexi
Punty's take: Two tighter legs (Race 4 and Race 6) keep you honest, but Race 5 and Race 7 open up the playground, so this is a fun quad where one chaotic finish can save the day.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - The Good 4 is paying for position
If you're off the speed in these middle-distance races, you're basically doing extra metres. The on-pace and stalking types are where the value sits.
2 - Watch the on-pace map in the late card
Races 5 and 7 are the ones where the rail +4m encourages staying in your lane and letting the run develop, the horses who hold position tend to get the best looks.
3 - Roughies are distance-dependent today
Satin Bow in Race 3 and Dutch Por in Race 7 both rely on the finish turning into a scramble, short bursts suit them more than a tidy procession.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Alright legends, today's card is built for clean racing and smart stalking, the kind where you win by being on the right horses at the right stage, not by heroics. I'll take my chances on the Big 3 spine and let the Quaddie lanes deal with the ratbags. Gamble Responsibly.
