Rightio Loose Units, Mornington on a Good 4, rail out 7m, and the track looks like it's behaved itself for once. Which means, naturally, someone's going to get greedy early, check the field, and realise the finish line is closer than it looks. We're going in with a spine today, then letting the chaos kitchen have a little dance.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Mornington, 1000m to 2450m card
Rail: Out 7m Entire Circuit
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play fair, but speed still matters)
Weather: Fine (watch for gusty shuffle, could mess with straight runs a touch)
Early lane guess: Quieter starts, then the sprints liven up fast
Tempo profile: Mostly moderate early speed, with a couple of races where the leaders get first dibs on the cash
Jockeys to follow:
Blake Shinn: rides a heap and you can see him when the breaks open.
Jamie Mott: clean hands, good at steering through the chaos.
Daniel Stackhouse: when he ends up on the right horse, he stays there through the line.
Stables to respect:
Julius Sandhu (5 runners): their debut and early-prep options have bite today.
Pat Carey & Harris Walker (5 runners): they're not afraid to back themselves when the market gets weird.
A & S Freedman (4 runners): if you see one of theirs live early, trust it, they know what they're doing.

Punty's take:

Alright legends, this meeting feels like it wants you to respect pace, but not get married to it. With the rail out 7m, lanes aren't as claustrophobic, so if a horse's drawn to get rolling, they can actually hold their position instead of doing the "hope and prayer" dance.

I'm leaning on three winners across the day, and they all fit a similar script. They've got the map, the race story makes sense, and the market either agrees or at least explains why you'd forgive a price. Race 1 is a classic "speed first" maiden where the whole race shape is screaming that the leader either wins or absolutely controls the finish.

By the time we hit Race 5 and Race 7, it's transition time. That's where you want a horse that can position off the leaders and then keep going. Race 8 is the spicy one, where the value leans to a runner that looks like it's primed for the "run on, don't die" style.

What it means for you:

Bet aggressive where the race shape is tidy, protect where the field gets messy. In the quads and big exotics, don't go full hero on the open legs, cover what's likely to be in the mix, and let one or two longer shots do the heavy lifting for dividends.

For the win game, my spine is Deadly Force to get the job done early, Determined Rose to handle class 1 pressure, and Gilgeous in Race 5 because it profiles as the right type for a Mornington middle mile grinder. For everything else, you're either backing place safety, or you're taking the roughie because the pace collapses and the back-half swooper gets a look in.

Now let's run the races like we actually watched them, which obviously we did.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Deadly Force (Race 1, No.1) — $1.62
Why Maps to lead, first-up prep looks sharp, and the race shape suits a front-runner turning it into a sprint finish.
2 - Determined Rose (Race 7, No.10) — $2.90
Why Class 1 with a leader's job description, barrier helps, and it has the most "control the race" profile.
3 - Gilgeous (Race 5, No.8) — $2.70
Why Right kind of runner for the 1500m, can settle and hit through, and market support says it's real.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~13 = ~$130 collect

Race 1 – Sportsbet Jockey Watch Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, leaders stack up early, Deadly Force and Raining Fire both want the front
Punty read: This one's got that "watch the first 150m, that's where the race is" vibe. Deadly Force is drawn nicely to press on, and the race's pace profile says the on-pacers get every chance to stay in the fight. Top Ace looks like the sort that can improve with the gear today, and Mystic River Queen is the exact type to pick up a cheque if the leaders start treating the last 200m like it's optional.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Deadly Force (No.1) — $1.65 / $1.05
Bet $15.00 Win, return $24.75
Prob 38.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.84x Steady since tip
Why First-up but the preparation vibe is there, plus the leader map means it gets first crack. If it jumps, it's hard to run down late.

2. Top Ace (No.7) — $5.00 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.12x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Mystic River Queen (No.9) — $6.50 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.27x Steady since tip
Why It's a value place chance runner type, and if the on-pacers come together, it should be one of the ones sticking on.

Roughie: Prolific Angel (No.6) — $11.00 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.1% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 2.13x Steady since tip
Why The path is classic chaos, pace holds up and the backmarker runs on when everyone else is stuck in traffic.

Race 2 – Evergreen Turf (Bm56)

Race type: Benchmark 56, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, you want to be around it, not searching for it
Punty read: This is a proper sprint where the quicker ones can get first turn at pressure. Strong Box is the likeliest to get dragged into the right pocket early and then do its best work at the business end. Bifrost and Party Benefits both look like they can keep applying pressure, which is great, because short sprints love a race that doesn't go too slow. Fullproof is the wobble option, more "if it lands perfectly" than "automatic".

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Strong Box (No.3) — $2.65 / $1.25
Bet $10.50 Win, return $27.82
Prob 25.6% | Place: 62.7% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why Winning form-line type at this trip, and even with the slow start risk, it looks like it'll still be close enough to cash in late.

2. Bifrost (No.1) — $5.00 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.20x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Party Benefits (No.6) — $4.60 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.10x Steady since tip
Why Strong pressure runner. If it gets a clean run without being shuffled back too far, it's right in the mix for a place.

Roughie: Fullproof (No.2) — $18.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.6% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why It needs the right run and the right tempo, so it's there for the upset story, not the default.

Race 3 – Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 2450m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so position and timing decide everything
Punty read: Long maiden, slow tempo, so the usual sprint instincts get you killed. Raghnall is the one I want in my head because it's got the profile to stalk then pounce when others start drifting wide or searching for clear running. Charlie Messy Hair and Kissattack are both live off their recent staying runs and the way the race should unfold, with some of these backmarkers getting their moment if the pace is genuinely soft.

Top 3 + Roughie ($11.00 pool)

1. Raghnall (No.7) — $3.10 / $1.52
Bet $11.00 Win, return $34.10
Prob 15.3% | Place: 45.5% | Value: 1.22x Steady since tip
Why It's got the staying mechanics, and with a slow map, backmarkers that can find a gap are dangerous. This one is well set to swoop.

2. Charlie Messy Hair (No.3) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.6% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Kissattack (No.11) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why It's the sort that can ping into the placings, but price is doing the heavy lifting, so I'm not overcommitting.

Roughie: Clydebank Robber (No.4) — $11.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.67x Steady since tip
Why If the slow tempo turns into a tactical slog, this could be the one grinding into a cheque late.

Race 4 – Barmah Park Restaurant & Cellar Door Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, on-pacers get chances, leaders likely to stick around
Punty read: Regal Harry is the obvious "this is its race" candidate on current shape, but Trouble'n Paradise is the one I want underneath because the gear and the run style suit staying-on in a tight 1200. Scoot is there as the danger if it times the run and gets across without getting bogged. The chaos in this one is whether the leaders take the scenic route or start sprinting early.

Top 3 + Roughie ($11.50 pool)

1. Regal Harry (No.10) — $3.00 / $1.45
Bet $11.50 Win, return $34.50
Prob 18.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why Barrier and map put it in the right place, and it should get a decent crack at the lead or right beside it.

2. Trouble'n Paradise (No.3) — $7.00 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.45x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.40 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Scoot (No.12) — $4.50 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.85x Steady since tip
Why It's got enough pace to be relevant, but it needs timing and clear running to be a threat.

Roughie: Debut Author (No.8) — $11.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 28.4% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why First-timers can be bombs, but when they're geared for it, they can sneak a place with a clean debut run.

Race 5 – 3MP Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1500m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, chances for runners that can settle and keep working through the line
Punty read: This is Gilgeous's playground if it gets a controlled run early. Top Rich is the one that can absolutely give you a scare if the race turns into a long sprint, and Prime Force is there as the stalking option that can slot behind and then keep grinding. Trentino is the backmarker danger only if the leaders overcook it and it gets a clear finish run.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Gilgeous (No.8) — $2.70 / $1.40
Bet $13.00 Win, return $35.10
Prob 25.7% | Place: 61.0% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why Settles near the action and has the tempo fitness to go again, plus the market treats it like a real deal.

2. Top Rich (No.4) — $4.60 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.4% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.23x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Prime Force (No.11) — $5.50 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.13x Steady since tip
Why If the pace is moderate, it's a natural place chance. It has that grind-and-stay-on style.

Roughie: Levent (No.10) — $9.50 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why Roughie path is simple, it needs a good run and the leaders to start fighting early so it can slip through.

Race 6 – Sportsbet More Places (Bm56)

Race type: Benchmark 56, 1500m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, on-pacers and midfield grinders both can cash if they're in the right lane
Punty read: Brutify is the one with the sharpest "right now" feel, and Lope De Lardo is the sort that can absolutely make it a race if the tempo suits. Fearless Writer is the sleeper with a real place profile. Amphactor is the value left-field option if it keeps producing the late kick when people start jabbing for runs.

Top 3 + Roughie ($9.50 pool)

1. Brutify (No.10) — $3.10 / $1.52
Bet $9.50 Win, return $29.45
Prob 18.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why It's drawn and mapped to keep pressing the right areas, and it can be the one that holds its ground late.

2. Lope De Lardo (No.9) — $3.90 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.9% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Fearless Writer (No.8) — $8.50 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.0% | Place: 34.2% | Value: 1.35x Steady since tip
Why If it gets the right run behind the pressure, it can find the line strongly enough for a cheque.

Roughie: Amphactor (No.6) — $11.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.8% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.55x Steady since tip
Why Value roughie angle, it can keep improving through the race and sneak into the finish with the right lane.

Race 7 – Peninsula Kubota Hcp (C1)

Race type: Class 1, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, but Determined Rose looks like it controls the first bend
Punty read: Determined Rose is the clear story here. It's got the leader map and the market has it as the main character. Mykindakandy is the danger because it can sit in the right pocket and then keep running, especially if the leader has to work too hard. Crank is your rough plan B, and Cresta Crystal is the one that can pop up in the trifecta if the race stays tight.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Determined Rose (No.10) — $3.00 / $1.45
Bet $10.50 Win, return $31.50
Prob 36.4% | Place: 57.5% | Value: 1.43x Steady since tip
Why It's the classier run, it maps to lead, and this 1200 at Mornington is a "who controls the tempo" race.

2. Mykindakandy (No.5) — $4.80 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.85 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Crank (No.7) — $8.50 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.1% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why If it can sit closer than expected and get clear late, it can absolutely pinch a place.

Roughie: Home Tomurra (No.8) — $13.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.08x Steady since tip
Why Roughie path is pace drift and a clean run through the gaps, that's the only way it makes a statement.

Race 8 – Sportsbet Race Replays (Bm56)

Race type: Benchmark 56, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with on-pacers doing the heavy lifting, backmarkers only if the tempo drops
Punty read: This is the kind of race where the finish comes quick, so you want a horse that keeps working, not one that's always looking for room. Eeteedee is the pick because it has the tempo to stay in play and the finish to hang on. Pull My Finger is the classic place play if it doesn't get stuck too far back. Yellowknife is the market favourite profile, but I'm not paying overs for a horse that needs everything to go perfectly.

Top 3 + Roughie ($6.50 pool)

1. Eeteedee (No.9) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet $6.50 Each Way ($3.25W + $3.25P), return $16.25 (wins) / $6.50 (places)
Prob 19.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.25x Steady since tip
Why It's got the right run style for a 1200, and the place value is solid if it needs luck turning for home.

2. Yellowknife (No.4) — $3.90 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Pull My Finger (No.6) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.23x Steady since tip
Why Place profile is strong, and it's the kind that can run on if the leaders start getting crowded.

Roughie: Ranakye (No.5) — $12.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.0% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.09x Steady since tip
Why It's there for the upset if the race breaks weird and it gets the right lane with cover.

SEQUENCE LANES

EARLY QUADDIE (R1–R4)

Smart: 1,7,9,6 / 3,6,1 / 7,11,3,4 / 10,3,12,8 (192 combos x $0.13 = $25.00) -- 13% flexi
Punty's take: Clear speed leg in R1, then three open-race legs where Mornington chaos can find you quick. Risky, but you're buying entertainment with cover.

QUADDIE (R5–R8)

Smart: 8,4,11,10 / 10,9,8,6 / 10,5,7,8 / 4,9,6,5 (256 combos x $0.10 = $25.00) -- 10% flexi
Punty's take: R5 is fairly structured, R6 and R8 are open, and R7 has the one clear favourite but still needs the right placings to line up. Another fun one.

BIG 6 (R3–R8)

Smart: 7,11,3,4 / 10,3,12,8 / 8,4,11,10 / 10,9,8,6 / 10,5,7,8 / 4,9,6,5 (4096 combos x $0.004883 = $20.00) -- 0.49% flexi
Punty's take: That's a lot of open legs for a big-six, so it's more celebration insurance than a value play. Still, the structure picks the most sensible runners each leg.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Mornington sprints reward positioning, not heroics
On Good 4 with the rail out, if a horse gets to do its job in the first half of the straight, it can actually hold. Don't overthink it when the pace map is screaming.

2 - Watch for the "market firm, then get there late" pattern
When a horse shortens and still profiles as needing a clean run late, it's often because it's been nursed into peak timing. Race 7 and Race 8 have that vibe.

3 - The chaos roughie rule today is "pace collapses, then run"
Roughies only make sense if the leaders bunch up or start doing too much. If the race goes smooth up front, you've basically waved goodbye to value.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

Go grab your spine early, then let the open races do what they do. If Race 1 and Race 7 both behave, we're in for a decent day, if they don't… well, that's when we get to have fun and pretend we meant it. Gamble Responsibly.
