Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden Hcp, 1300m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, Peace Bird and Stay Quiet types are positioned to exploit it, Courthezon can sit closer than you'd think.
Punty read: Peace Bird is the one to beat on the Soft 6 grind. With the tempo slow, she gets to take a breath early and then her run turns into a proper finishing sprint. Courthezon is the market's main threat, and at this distance they can still stalk and strike, especially with the rail out (+5m) helping them keep their path. Last Tour's the danger only if the speed doesn't build and they get a crack at the line late.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Peace Bird (No.1) — $2.93 / $1.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$31.50
Prob 36.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.99x
Why Slow 1300 on Soft 6 suits, and she looks set to run on without needing everything to go her way.
2. Courthezon (No.4) — $1.81 / $1.13 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 36.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.11x
Why Courthezon is the classic "get there and park" type, but this card pays thin for a place saver plan.
3. Last Tour (No.5) — $9.35 / $3.20 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.3% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.85x
Why If the speed collapses they can run into it, but the profile says they need everything.
Roughie: Nambi Ghima (No.8) — $11.50 / $3.40 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.0% | Place: 19.2% | Value: 0.73x
Why Roughie path is there, but on this lane and tiny place pay, it's a tough ask.
Race type: Class 1, 2130m
Map & tempo: Portsmouth should get the comfortable position on the on-pace side in a slow grind.
Punty read: Portsmouth is the "set and measure" horse today. Slow 2130 means the leaders can control the flow, and when you've got on-pace speed with soft ground vibes, it usually holds up through the middle stages. Unmatched is the value place play threat, and Bo Cougar's the one that can run a cheeky race if the pace doesn't fully develop. The longer you leave it, the more you risk missing the moment.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Portsmouth (No.2) — $1.58 / $1.12 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 33.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.65x
Why Slow pace plus on-pacing means they can stalk with zero panic, then hit the line when others are walking.
2. Unmatched (No.9) — $5.90 / $2.55 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.3% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.24x
Why Great place leverage if you were doing it, but this isn't set up for a place saver strategy.
3. Bo Cougar (No.3) — $8.10 / $2.70 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 40.0% | Value: 1.57x
Why They're the type that can run top 3 if the tempo suits, but this is still a long reach for a win.
Roughie: Queen Tavane (No.4) — $10.50 / $3.30 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.1% | Place: 26.8% | Value: 1.28x
Why Roughie win works if the race breaks oddly, but place odds aren't the play here.
Race type: Class 1, 1400m
Map & tempo: Gong Girl and Royal Chic sit midfield, King Of Dragons looks like the on-pace backbone.
Punty read: This is your proper Speed vs Stamina showdown, slow enough early for runners to settle, but not so slow that you can just stroll and coast. King Of Dragons is the one likely to do the work without getting destroyed by it, and Royal Chic is the "stalk, then pounce" threat. Gong Girl offers real value on the place side, especially if the leaders get pressured and the finish turns into a melee.
Top 3 + Roughie ($23.00 pool)
1. King Of Dragons (No.1) — $2.21 / $1.12 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$26.40
Prob 30.1% | Place: 66.5% | Value: 0.82x
Why If they've got the on-pacing into it, Soft 6 1400s usually reward the horse that stays balanced and keeps switching.
2. Royal Chic (No.4) — $3.28 / $1.30 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.95x
Why She can run top 3, but the place odds sit in a zone that doesn't look friendly for a saver bet.
3. Gong Girl (No.6) — $5.40 / $1.72 🏆 5TH
Bet $11.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$11.00
Prob 21.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.42x
Why Value place play, midfield runner who should get room to reel them in late. This looks like her finish matters.
Roughie: Yes Siree (No.3) — $13.50 / $3.00 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.0% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 1.00x
Why Roughie win path is real, but it's a "must get luck" scenario, and place probability just isn't there.
Race type: Benchmark 66, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, Feazabeel sits back but profiles to hit hard, Just Shane can keep pressure on.
Punty read: Feazabeel is the obvious danger, but today I'm trusting Highborn Harry and Just Shane to do the job with the right run through traffic. On Soft 6, 1600s can get messy because the kick isn't instant, it's a process. If you're stuck behind them, you lose lengths you can't claw back. So this is about position, and Highborn Harry's the kind that can sneak into the finish while others are still coasting through their gears.
Top 3 + Roughie ($17.00 pool)
1. Highborn Harry (No.1) — $4.30 / $1.52 🏆 2ND
Bet $7.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$7.50
Prob 30.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.58x
Why Maps well enough, and Soft 6 can suit his finish, plus barrier 1 gives him options early.
2. Feazabeel (No.6) — $1.92 / $1.08 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 30.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.70x
Why She's live, but the odds are too tight for the place saver lane.
3. Just Shane (No.2) — $6.40 / $1.72 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $9.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$9.50
Prob 15.9% | Place: 59.5% | Value: 1.23x
Why This is a classic place play, he should be there when the pace sets up for a chase.
Roughie: Polo (No.4) — $11.50 / $2.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.2% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.15x
Why Backing off-track chaos, if the race gets bunched, Polo can pick up pieces late.
Race type: Maiden Plate, 1500m
Map & tempo: What She's Having and Proxima Centauri are the speed pockets, Magnanamous midfield.
Punty read: This is a two-horse narrative for me, What She's Having and Proxima Centauri. The pace should be slow enough for both to settle properly, but not slow enough that one can coast past everyone. If the track is Soft 6 sticky, you want a horse that keeps responding late instead of hitting the wall early.
Top 3 + Roughie ($20.50 pool)
1. What She's Having (No.11) — $2.24 / $1.17 🏆 6TH
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 33.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.93x
Why Heaps of place confidence, and on a slog 1500 you want the horse that keeps powering through rather than sprinting early.
2. Proxima Centauri (No.10) — $2.98 / $1.37 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$3.70
Prob 33.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.37x
Why Real value place play, and the Soft 6 helps that style if they get clear running at the right time.
3. Magnanamous (No.7) — $10.75 / $2.50 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.93x
Why She's a rougher type in disguise, but place probability isn't giving enough.
Roughie: Who I Think I Am (No.12) — $11.00 / $2.60 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.65x
Why The win could happen if everything clicks, but as a roughie, you're still needing a clear run and a clean finish.
Race type: Maiden Plate, 1100m
Map & tempo: Superior Style and Piratess are the ones you watch early, Stormy Reign keeps charging into the mix.
Punty read: 1100m on Soft 6 is chaos in a hurry. You don't get many chances to fix mistakes, so the horses that bring early speed or have the best "do not overcook it" rhythm win more often. Superior Style is the standout profile, Piratess is the danger if the track hasn't chewed out the backmarkers, and Stormy Reign is value for place because she's the kind that keeps finding lengths late.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)
1. Superior Style (No.6) — $2.95 / $1.30 🏆 WINNER
Bet $9.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$20.70
Prob 28.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.13x
Why Tight track means early rhythm matters, and this one should get enough pace to survive the slog.
2. Piratess (No.9) — $4.05 / $1.62 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $8.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$8.50
Prob 26.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.10x
Why Place leverage, and on wet ground, a horse that can keep rolling early usually finds the line.
3. Stormy Reign (No.5) — $5.30 / $1.65 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $4.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$4.50
Prob 19.1% | Place: 60.4% | Value: 0.83x
Why Not the main win hope, but should still finish strongly enough for a top 3.
Roughie: Smolenski (No.11) — $12.00 / $3.10 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.5% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 1.22x
Why Needs a miracle jump and then a miracle run, roughie path only.
Race type: Class 3, 1100m
Map & tempo: Extrio and Dancer's Delight are right in the speed press, Molteuno can also keep pressure on.
Punty read: This is a short-course test where the best horses usually get the best trip, and Extrio and Dancer's Delight look like they'll be in the right part of the race. Romanticism is the danger for a late show if the pace holds up and the line comes quickly. Helluva Teen is the wild card, but it's hard to trust when the map says they might be chasing too hard.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)
1. Extrio (No.1) — $2.84 / $1.25 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$28.60
Prob 28.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.01x
Why Should get every chance early, and with a soft 1100, being near the front is often the whole game.
2. Dancer's Delight (No.3) — $2.93 / $1.32 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 28.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.05x
Why He's a genuine place chance, but the place price isn't landing in Punty's comfy zone.
3. Romanticism (No.9) — $6.55 / $1.80 🏆 5TH
Bet $6.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$6.50
Prob 13.7% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.11x
Why Place play, backmarker into a pace that might not collapse. She's got the right gear for it.
Roughie: Helluva Teen (No.2) — $21.25 / $3.80 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.6% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.67x
Why Needs way too much to go right. Roughie dream only.
Race type: Benchmark 58, 1200m
Map & tempo: The Eyes Have It is on the pace, Kendalia can sit closer, Wolf Island is there for the late bite.
Punty read: 1200m is where the leaders get confidence on Soft, because the ground holds them up just enough to make the rest rush. The Eyes Have It looks the one to control the tempo, and if they can keep a nice position, they'll be tough late. Kendalia is the class angle for place, and Wolf Island is the value place runner if they get room late. Callenem Thru is the roughie threat if the race opens wide.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)
1. The Eyes Have It (No.5) — $3.65 / $1.70 🏆 WINNER
Bet $7.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$18.55
Prob 25.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.15x
Why On-pace on Soft 6 at 1200 is gold, and the map says they're not doing all the work for nothing.
2. Kendalia (No.1) — $3.67 / $1.65 🏆 4TH
Bet $9.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$9.50
Prob 15.7% | Place: 47.8% | Value: 0.71x
Why Strong place leverage, and the draw plus track conditions give her every chance to hit the top 3.
3. Wolf Island (No.11) — $8.05 / $2.80 🏆 3RD
Bet $5.50 Place — ✓ Won, net +$9.90
Prob 10.3% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.02x
Why Wet ground suits, and if the pace sharpens, she can pick up lengths late.
Roughie: Callenem Thru (No.10) — $12.25 / $3.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.38x
Why Has a path, but this is a "top 3 protect the ticket" race, not a rummage sale.
Sequence legs are the picks-engine's authoritative choice, rendered from the persisted ticket.

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Goulburn looks like a proper Soft 6 slog-fest where the winner has to find a bit of bottle and not get bogged in the middle of the track. The rail's out (+5m entire), so you're gonna want a few that can keep rolling without getting trapped off the course. Pace is sitting there like a lazy mate on the couch, slow and draggy early, then everyone starts winding up late like it's the finale of a TV season.
Main threats today? Backmarkers can still hit, but they need a race shape that gives them time to chew up the ground. When the leaders get comfortable, the "I'll swoop late" plan turns into "I'll be 4 wide and praying." So I'm focusing on the horses that look like they'll either dictate the tempo, or at least get the run where they can finish the job, even when the track's sticky.
Punty's take: This card's got that 'two classes of punters' vibe. The ones who love taking the shorties and letting the place money do the work, and the ones who want to be brave with roughies, then mysteriously act surprised when the "wide and held up" happens. We're going balanced, place-smart, and only using roughies when the racing story actually stacks up. Also, watch Race 3 and Race 6, those are the spots where the favourite types should be finishing hard, and if you've got the right position, the line should come fast.
What it means for you: If you're gonna play aggressively, do it where the map says they can be in the race early, or at worst, not too far off it. That's the difference between "bolted in" and "didn't get a yard and then found out." For the multi spine, I'm locking in the Big 3 winners and treating it like a little day insurance policy. And in the exotics, I'd rather you pay for fewer smarter legs than go hunting rainbows across the whole sequence and donate coin to the track's Christmas hamper fund.
