Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so the on-pace types get to settle and sprint late, not get swallowed early.
Punty read: Written In Munny is drawn 4, and that's perfect for this sort of shuffle. If the pace is genuinely slow, he doesn't need to be brave early, he needs to be switched on late. The book is firming him for a reason, and interference last start is the sort of excuse that usually gets rewarded when a horse maps clean second time.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Written In Munny (No.6) — $2.12 / $1.30 🏆 5TH
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 49.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.22x
Why Interference excuse, and the slow 1100m setup suits his style. He should hit the line like a taxi with the meter switched on.
2. Stronghold (No.5) — $4.15 / $1.85 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.0% | Place: 43.4% | Value: 0.88x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Savvy Diamond (No.8) — $5.85 / $2.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.3% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.83x
Why She's got place claims, but in this specific maiden I'm not paying extra for second-best vibes.
Roughie: Konomie (No.4) — $11.75 / $3.60 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.70x
Why If you see chaos up front, she might sneak into it, but she's not my "must have" in a race where the speed is controlled.
Race type: Maiden, 1500m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, with multiple runners able to press and keep pressure on.
Punty read: This is Orange Tsunami's race to lose. Barrier 4 helps him stalk without spending the whole trip chasing. The funny part is, the market favourite has company, Who I Think I Am is looming as the obvious danger, but there's enough excuse clutter in the rest that I'm happy to build around the known tempo fit.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Orange Tsunami (No.1) — $1.67 / $1.09 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$10.05
Prob 55.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.30x
Why Slow tempo plus a good gate equals a clean trip. If he gets an uninterrupted run, he's too hard to peg back late.
2. Who I Think I Am (No.4) — $4.05 / $1.65 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.1% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.83x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Milchel (No.3) — $6.75 / $2.55 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.5% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 0.60x
Why He can run a cheeky race, but I'd rather be with the tempo-topper.
Roughie: Prankaj (No.7) — $10.50 / $3.30 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.6% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.61x
Why If the front group burns and he gets rolling, he's the sort of runner that can nick a big finish.
Race type: Class 2 Handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so the midfield crowd can save, then unleash late.
Punty read: This race is built for a late puncher. Peace Bird is the type that can get the trip without being forced early. Barrier 2 helps her keep position and avoid getting trapped behind traffic that's too keen. The danger is you get a couple of others with the same "wait and go" style, then it becomes a scramble, and that's where place bets start to feel smart.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Peace Bird (No.3) — $2.92 / $1.30 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$19.20
Prob 30.6% | Place: 55.5% | Value: 1.12x
Why She's got the right profile for a slow 1400, and she's been showing the ability to mix it without getting flustered.
2. London Boy (No.2) — $2.76 / $1.25 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.9% | Place: 48.6% | Value: 0.76x
Why A real chance — but at $1.25 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Kendalia (No.1) — $4.90 / $1.65 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.8% | Place: 44.3% | Value: 1.28x
Why This is the value eye-catcher, and the blinkers angle could sharpen her up, but the place timing isn't screaming "bet me".
Roughie: Glenn's Legacy (No.7) — $10.50 / $2.60 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 21.4% | Value: 1.07x
Why Roughie route is real, if the race falls into that exact late-in-the-battle scenario.
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Short sprint, pace is slow, and position off the speed matters more than big hero moves.
Punty read: Brucey at barrier 11 sounds scary on paper, but if he jumps and slots, he's got the perfect "save a bit, then sprint" job for a slow 1200. And yeah, he's got gear first time, ear muffs and winkers off first time, which usually means the stable wants him to focus.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Brucey (No.1) — $1.86 / $1.15 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$12.90
Prob 44.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.10x
Why Inside gate and a confident market, plus slow pace helps those that can just keep going through the line.
2. River Mersey (No.10) — $3.15 / $1.62 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.03x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Daylite (No.8) — $9.75 / $3.50 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.8% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 1.34x
Why If he pulls up late, he pays. But this is a maiden, so you've got to want the risk.
Roughie: Highway Robbery (No.3) — $13.50 / $3.80 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.7% | Place: 17.0% | Value: 0.37x
Why The path is there with a tempo change, but he's too thin on return for my taste.
Race type: Class 3 Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, but this is still a sprint where on-pace runners can hold the baton through the line.
Punty read: This is a race for The Eyes Have It to actually make me look clever. He's got the place leverage written all over him, and the form says he can keep running rather than just "get there". The big story is whether the front group stays honest, and with moderate pace, it should stay a real race.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. Stormbringer (No.2) — $4.10 / $1.65 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $14.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$14.00
Prob 21.2% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.08x
Why He's on pace and can strike early, if he doesn't get stuck wide he's right in it.
2. Dancer's Delight (No.3) — $3.45 / $1.52 🏆 WINNER
Bet $5.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$2.60
Prob 20.4% | Place: 64.4% | Value: 0.88x
Why Place play for the running line, he's got enough to snag a top three finish.
3. The Eyes Have It (No.5) — $6.75 / $2.20 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 50.2% | Value: 1.32x
Why He's the value play, but the exact place band isn't aligned for profit tonight.
Roughie: Brazen Crime (No.4) — $12.75 / $3.10 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.37x
Why If the leaders wobble late, he's the one who can rush through and steal a chunk of the finish.
Race type: Benchmark 58, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with multiple leaders, so the race can stretch and then sprint into the last 200.
Punty read: This is a messy 1600 where the worst thing you can do is get too brave too early. Sir Tua is drawn 8 and has the sort of midfield positioning where he can let the pace do the work, then respond. Lucky Star is interesting as a roughie because she's got the market value and a place profile that can outrun the price.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Sir Tua (No.1) — $5.10 / $1.95 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.00 Each Way ($5.00W + $5.00P) — Cashed, net -$0.25
Prob 15.2% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 0.96x
Why Midfield race shape suits, and with genuine pace he can pick the right moment rather than being forced.
2. Midnight Affair (No.9) — $4.65 / $1.90 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.86x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Kisses For Jody (No.12) — $6.75 / $2.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 28.5% | Value: 0.94x
Why She's there for the right kind of run, but the place pricing route doesn't line up.
Roughie: Lucky Star (No.5) — $12.25 / $3.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 1.09x
Why If the front group goes too fast, she can swoop and grab a cheque when others fade.
Race type: Benchmark 58, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, but it's a sprint where the leaders can get away with it, then the chase has to work.
Punty read: I'm thinking Bosco has the "I'm gonna make them chase" role, but the danger is the speed brigade around him. If Superior Style is that other leader, then it becomes a two-horse wind tunnel and everyone else has to be brave late.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Bosco (No.3) — $2.42 / $1.20 🏆 WINNER
Bet $11.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$15.62
Prob 23.7% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.71x
Why Leaders win a decent chunk of sprints here when they get an untroubled run. He's got the engine and the gate position.
2. Superior Style (No.5) — $5.65 / $1.82 🏆 9TH
Bet $4.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$4.00
Prob 17.7% | Place: 44.5% | Value: 1.24x
Why If he holds the leaders' honest tempo, he can easily keep finding the line.
3. Flywire (No.6) — $5.60 / $1.82 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 56.8% | Value: 1.11x
Why There's a place route, but the numbers for the bet timing don't fit.
Roughie: Flying Chevrolet (No.9) — $10.00 / $2.60 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.3% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.52x
Why If the leaders tire and he gets a clear crack, he can finish over the top.
That's the ticket as I struck it — the legs below are exactly what ran, no rewriting history.
Smart: 1,10,9 / 3,5,2,4 / 9,1,12,5 / 6,3,5,9 (192 combos x $0.13 = $25.00) -- 13% flexi
The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.
1 - Written In Munny (Race 1, No.6)✗ — $2.12
2 - Orange Tsunami (Race 2, No.1)✓ Won — $1.67
3 - Brucey (Race 4, No.1)✓ Won — $1.86
Meeting Stats

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Goulburn on a Good 4 with the wind getting a bit lively, that rail jammed +5m and the heavens threatening to remember they exist. It's one of those meetings where the early speed isn't a suggestion, it's a job. There's gonna be runners getting dragged along in the wrong race, and a couple sneaking through like kids who found the spare TV remote.
First thing I'm doing is building a spine. Race 1 is basically a "get on the ladder" situation with Written In Munny (No.6) looking like the obvious benchmark. Race 2 has the same vibe with Orange Tsunami (No.1), then Race 4 gives you Brucey (No.1) as the short-priced anchor. That's the Big 3. After that, we pepper in place leverage and keep the chaos for when the prices actually smell right.
Now let's walk it race by race. I'm doing the pub version, not the textbook version, and we're keeping it real.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Good 4, 1100m to 1600m card
Rail: +5m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Speed vs Finish)
Weather: Shower or two clearing, 14°C, watch for gusts and that late rain risk (around 40%+).
Early lane guess: Lock it in on-speed early, then look for runners tracking mid and finishing off.
Tempo profile: Generally slow to moderate early, so if a horse is shown as "on pace" or is straight up there from the jump, respect it.
Jockeys to follow:
Blaike McDougall: He's been in the mix a heap, and when the markets firm, he turns up for it.
Jay Ford: The bloke can place a horse where it wants to be, especially in these country tempo races.
Dale Cole: When Cole is on, you can feel the stable's intent. He knows how to nurse a sprint into the line.
Stables to respect:
Bjorn Baker (2 runners): Strong bite in the market, and his types usually find a way to be around the business end.
Richard & Will Freedman (3 runners): They're live in multiple races here, with runners that look set for the right run style.
Matthew Dale (2 runners): He's got a habit of having one ready when everyone else is still warming up.
Punty's take:
This card is set up for runners who can actually hold their spot. The rail at +5m means inside lanes can be a trap if you're stuck too deep without momentum. In slow-tempo races at Goulburn, you want either a horse that can roll forward and take the wind, or one that's got the class to slice through without panic.
Race 1 is the opener where the market and the map both look happy. Written In Munny has the best profile for a slow pace, because if nothing's really burning, he can just do his thing straight to the line. The danger is you get greedy and think the longshot is "due". Nah. This is the sort of maiden where the favourite wins and the value is in where you place your extra money.
Race 2 is a similar story, but with a twist, because there's plenty of beaten-up runners in the pack with legitimate excuses. Orange Tsunami is the one the tempo suits, and from barrier 4 you're not asking for a miracle. The rain scare means expect jockeys to steer a touch more conservatively, saving ground and keeping momentum when the track slicks.
What it means for you:
Go aggressive where the races look set, especially when the top pick has both the map and market support. That's your win legs, and your "don't overthink it" moments. For the rest, you're hunting place leverage, because these fields at Goulburn can turn into a finishing-battle real quick.
