Rightio Loose Units, Grafton on a Soft 5 where the rail's doing the old bias thing and the pace might as well be molasses. It's sunny, it's chilly, and it's the sort of day where one horse gets an easy run and the rest just eat mud like it's pre-race buffet.
Today's spine is clear, Race 2, Race 5, Race 6. Torque So Hot, Sorrenti, Woodrow. Lock those in your brain, because when the track turns sticky like this, the ones with the right map and the right mindset do the damage, and the "value" ones are the ones that sneak into the placings while everyone else is hunting for the lottery ticket.
What I reckon happens: the first four races are prime for place leverage, then after that you've got classier little Hcp plots where you want a horse that can handle the soft and still quicken. Pace is the engine, barrier is the gearbox, and if you're off the speed too early on a Soft 5, you're basically trying to sprint in a wetsuit. Let's go hunting.

Grafton's a funny old joint, you get a rail that's out there doing favours, then you get the soft ground that punishes anyone who's parked too wide for too long. So the big punting question is pace position, and today it's got teeth. In the shorter races, those on pace runners can sprint through their gears, and in the medium trips, the ones who can still hold a line without falling apart are the ones you want in your multiples.
Race 2 is a classic "who gets to dictate" heat. Torque So Hot is the one mapping to control early, and even if it doesn't win, it's the sort of horse that sets up the placings for the right late-chasers. Then Race 5, it's maiden chaos with soft-ground credentials, and Sorrenti is the best kind of favourite, a horse you can trust to be there when the real go button gets pressed. Race 6 is where we go boss mode with Woodrow and Rentessis, that's the kind of Hcp where a strong-runner can just sit in the right pocket and keep going.
And for the degenerates among you, there are roughie lanes sprinkled through the card. Not $50-$100 "write your own ticket" nonsense every time, more like value-rich bets that can hit if the leaders do the heavy lifting and the race shape stays honest.
What it means for you:
If you're playing straight, protect yourself early with place bets in the first few races, because soft tracks and maiden fields love a photo-finish top 3. In Race 1, you're basically buying into two or three horses being prominent, and the best "value" is the one who runs a solid race instead of hoping for a miracle.
For your multi spine: take the three winners in the Big 3, then don't overthink the rest of the quaddie lanes.
