Rightio Loose Units, Grafton's running on Good 4 with a bit of shower roulette hanging around, so it's gonna be one of those days where the right horse gets a clean run and the wrong horse gets stitched up by the first horse that sneezes in the straight.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Good 4, 1025-1630m card
Rail: +8m 800m-400m; +6m Remainder
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Even, speed-friendly with rail help)
Weather: Shower or two, 10°C, humidity 97%, wind 9km/h WSW, watch for rain keeping the ground honest
Early lane guess: Mid to middle, but if a speedster finds the fence early they can steal it
Tempo profile: Mixed tempo, with a couple races where on-pacers get first crack and the backmarkers only come on if the speed proper collapses
Jockeys to follow:
Ben Looker: the safe hands, straight line riding when it matters.
Archie McColm: keeps a lot of them in the fight, especially when the race shape helps.
Jake Bayliss: smart positioning, tends to get first run on a decision.
Stables to respect:
Stephen & Jordan Lee (25 runners): they breed confidence into their runners, especially in maiden races where the market lines up later.
M J Dunn (14 runners): they've got that "we know what we're doing" look, often with horses that finish off.
Samantha McGuren (11 runners): when they target this trip range, it's usually not a holiday.

Punty's take:

Alright degenerates, this is a card where the rail helps, the weather keeps everyone honest, and pace is the kingmaker. When the tempo's moderate, your best mates are the horses that can either hold position early or land outside and still get a soft run. If they're back too far early without the map, they usually have to win a lottery in the straight.

I'm leaning hard into three winners on different days and different race shapes, then letting the rest of the meeting sort itself out. Race 1 is a classic "first gear and first clear run" maiden, Race 4 is a proper benchmark-style maiden where the favourite profile makes sense, and Race 5 is one of those C1 races where the horse that's been in the right spots keeps getting offered another crack.

And don't sleep on the longish shots in the big races. The market's got plenty of firmers today, but when something drifts and then still comes in late, that's where the chaos merchants cook up profit.

What it means for you:

Plan your day like this. Be aggressive in the races where the top pick is a genuine on-pacer or a draw-and-trip fit, then protect yourself in the wider opens with place money or each way, because Good 4 at Grafton can turn a "nearly" into a fast dinner.

My gameplan:

  1. Hit the Big 3 spine (win, because I want the pay), then
  2. In the maiden chaos, I'm not trying to out-think a clean run into a horse's stride, I'm letting the on-speed types do the work and taking each way where it's priced to work, and
  3. In the chaos late, I'm watching for the race shape, because if the speed's there, the finish line tells the truth.

If you want a simple rule: wherever the horse maps to either lead or stalk within striking distance, that's where you're strongest. Whenever they're forced to be too far back early, that's where you need the exact kind of race where the pace dies.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Divine Mandate (Race 4, No.1) — $3.05
Why Tight profile up front and it just looks like the type to win on a Good 4 with a rail set-up.
2 - Almanzas (Race 5, No.3) — $3.55
Why Maps into the right spot in a C1, and the market support says they're not guessing.
3 - Rich Star (Race 2, No.1) — $4.55
Why Been consistent enough to keep showing up, and the run style suits this race shape.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~49 = ~$490 collect

Race 1 – Opening Gate Goblins

Race type: MAIDEN, 1025m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, on-pacers can hold position early
Punty read: This is one of those maidens where you don't need a miracle, you need the right trip. Crazy Eights and Ibetty both look like they can get involved early, and on a rail like this the horses that don't spend the whole race chasing their own shadow have a better ticket to the front. Sizzling Suzie is the speedier chaos name at a short price, but the big "could get run over late" risk exists if the map tightens up.

Now, Harmonious Stride has market heat and comes in on the favourite line, but you've got to respect that it's a maiden, first-time gear and clean room make-or-break. If you're picking one horse to do the heavy lifting, Ibetty is my safest way through the scramble, and Crazy Eights is the place insurance that can still win if the front line doesn't get brave enough.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Ibetty (No.11) — $4.90 / $1.95
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $36.75 (wins) / $14.62 (places)
Prob 16.1% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.07x
Why Draws into the mix, big place chance, and she's got the sort of profile that can sit handy and hit the line when others are too busy fighting.

2. Crazy Eights (No.8) — $4.60 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.92x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Harmonious Stride (No.1) — $5.10 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.0% | Place: 40.8% | Value: 0.95x
Why Barrier 1 gives her the best chance to control the early flow, but the win value just isn't there enough for me today, despite the support.

Roughie: Kobi Express (No.2) — $9.40 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 0.52x
Why If the leaders go too hard and the race shapes into a run-down lane, this on-pacer can still punch through for a surprise top-3.

Race 2 – Buy A Kosciuszko Ticket Now

Race type: BENCHMARK 66, 1025m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, pace advantaged leaders
Punty read: Sprint handicap, moderate tempo, and the class edge is obvious. Rich Star looks like the kind that gets the run and keeps it together through the short grind, especially with the way this bunch profiles. Dance Gavin Dance is dangerous at that price but the win equity is lower, Dividends Paid is the value place candidate, and Zoucat is the one that can stick his nose in if the leaders don't cooperate in a straight line.

The big play is Rich Star. This is the type of race where you don't chase ghosts, you bet the horse that's there when the race gets decided at 400m to go.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Rich Star (No.1) — $4.55 / $1.75
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $23.89 (wins) / $9.19 (places)
Prob 19.4% | Place: 58.6% | Value: 1.15x
Why On pace, strong track and distance profile, and when the run ends up short and sharp, he gets every chance to be right there.

2. Dance Gavin Dance (No.2) — $3.40 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.7% | Place: 62.3% | Value: 0.79x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Dividends Paid (No.6) — $6.20 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 37.1% | Value: 1.29x
Why This is the "keep him for the upset place" horse, strong price relative to his chance, but I'm not overloading it in the exact win lane.

Roughie: Kate's Tiara (No.7) — $11.50 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 1.04x
Why She needs the race to open up and a few to lose their rhythm, otherwise she's working uphill from back in the field.

Race 3 – Stubborn Maiden Soap Opera (1730m)

Race type: MAIDEN, 1730m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, stayers start to sort themselves
Punty read: Long maiden at Grafton, slow tempo, so it's about who can travel without burning and who can actually sprint the last section instead of just dragging in. Nukatabe is the standout. Junostar is the value place and Bills Angel is the wildcard in the finish if they can get clear running.

This race shape plays into horses that can hold a rhythm and make a move. Laurie's Quill is drifting like it wants a different story, and that usually means you're better off taking the more stable run patterns instead of chasing the dramatic late market noise.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Nukatabe (No.12) — $4.50 / $1.82
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $33.75 (wins) / $13.65 (places)
Prob 17.5% | Place: 60.7% | Value: 1.35x
Why Staying maiden, high place potential, and the tempo setup doesn't force him to do it all too early.

2. Junostar (No.8) — $4.90 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 55.3% | Value: 1.44x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Bills Angel (No.6) — $6.20 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.9% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.24x
Why Blinkers off first time and more gears for this trip style, he can grab a cheque if the tempo stays slow.

Roughie: Fabulous Fiano (No.1) — $9.40 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.9% | Place: 40.4% | Value: 1.34x
Why If things go his way early and he gets into a nice rhythm, he's the roughie that can sneak into the top end, especially with that on pace map.

Race 4 – Divine Mandate, Because It Says So

Race type: MAIDEN, 1430m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, pace advantaged early
Punty read: 1430m maidens are where the "who gets to the right spot" kids separate. Divine Mandate is my bet to keep things simple. Latin Lights is the clear danger at a price, Too Mars can run a cheeky race for a place and Didie's Meadow is the one to watch for an upset finish if the track turns into a sprint lane.

But the story is still: find position early, take the inside rail saving run, and don't get trapped wide without cover. Divine Mandate looks like he can do that. With this going, the cleanest trip is the sharpest trip.

Top 3 + Roughie ($21.00 pool)

1. Divine Mandate (No.1) — $3.05 / $1.50
Bet $16.50 Win, return $50.32
Prob 28.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.24x
Why Barrier 7 but the speed profile suggests he's not chasing air, and the class of the horse looks like it's ahead of this lot.

2. Latin Lights (No.6) — $4.50 / $1.80
Bet $3.50 Place, return $6.30
Prob 12.2% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 1.16x
Why Real chance to stalk and pick them off late. If the pace is moderate, he gets his moment.

3. Too Mars (No.11) — $6.20 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 47.5% | Value: 0.99x
Why He's in the race, but I'm not chasing that spot when the value isn't solid enough.

Roughie: Didie's Meadow (No.4) — $10.10 / $3.10
Bet $1.00 Place, return $3.10
Prob 6.9% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.99x
Why Big place value, and the longer 1430m lets back-to-mid runners find a clear lane if they're patient.

Race 5 – C1 Cruisin' With Almanzas

Race type: CLASS 1, 1430m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, on-pacers have a say
Punty read: This is a "do they keep coming?" race. Almanzas profiles like the sort that finds rhythm and keeps running through the line without needing the perfect chaos. Nozomu and Torque So Hot look like genuine contenders for the minor spots too, with the race shaped enough for both to threaten late.

You can absolutely end up getting held up in a C1 at 1430m, so the horses that have natural position and can change gear without panic are the ones I like. With the way this race maps, the win pick is Almanzas and the whole job is letting Nozomu and Torque So Hot fill in the gaps if things don't go full textbook.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Almanzas (No.3) — $3.55 / $1.62
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), return $23.07 (wins) / $10.53 (places)
Prob 19.5% | Place: 61.4% | Value: 0.96x
Why The price is fair and the place credentials are strong, if he gets a decent stalk he can still find the lead late.

2. Nozomu (No.4) — $4.30 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.6% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.11x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Torque So Hot (No.1) — $5.10 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.9% | Place: 68.8% | Value: 1.19x
Why He's got the speed to be in the fight, but the win lane doesn't line up with my value priorities.

Roughie: Miss Midas Touch (No.6) — $9.40 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.8% | Place: 29.5% | Value: 1.02x
Why Needs things to break late, but if the inside opens up and she gets a cheap enough run, she can still sneak into the money.

Race 6 – Chaos Handicap, With Spirits Burn Deep As The Fave

Race type: BENCHMARK 66, 1200m
Map & tempo: Short sprint, on pace wins when it stays fair
Punty read: This is a short sharp test, and when it's chaos handicap you bet the ones that can handle the speed and still have something left at the end. Spirits Burn Deep is the favourite for a reason, he's the type that can sit close and keep running, and this race doesn't look like it's going to give the backmarkers much of a gift.

Warrior Bae is the best value swing, Valouri is the consistent type to grab a place if the timing is right, and Patrioticintention is your roughie if the run turns into a tactical duel rather than an all-out sprint.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Spirits Burn Deep (No.10) — $4.30 / $1.80
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $22.57 (wins) / $9.45 (places)
Prob 13.4% | Place: 53.3% | Value: 0.81x
Why He's priced under his place chances a touch, and he's built for this kind of 1200m chaos where positioning is everything.

2. Warrior Bae (No.6) — $7.20 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.3% | Place: 54.3% | Value: 1.35x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Valouri (No.11) — $5.60 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.5% | Place: 44.3% | Value: 0.98x
Why Solid place profile but I'm not letting the third option soak the stake.

Roughie: Patrioticintention (No.2) — $10.80 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.7% | Place: 33.9% | Value: 1.17x
Why Needs a race shape where she can stay involved and still kick, and the best case is when the favourites are fighting each other.

Race 7 – The Chaos Kitchen Bites Back (Bm58, 1630m)

Race type: BENCHMARK 58, 1630m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, bigger field running time
Punty read: Slow pace at 1630m means one thing, the race can turn into a long holding pattern. Andros is the sneaky weapon here, In The Fine Print is the live threat with an honest profile, Awarded Glory has enough class to hit the line, and Hotzino is the danger if the race opens late.

The big danger in slow pace races is getting stuck in a parade that never turns into a sprint. You want a horse that can quicken when the rest are still getting ready. That's why Andros is my win spine anchor, and why I'm respecting the ones that can actually switch off a good turn of foot.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Andros (No.6) — $3.32 / $2.15
Bet $10.50 Win, return $34.86
Prob 18.1% | Place: 64.6% | Value: 0.93x
Why Slow tempo helps a horse that can sit in the mix and time a run. This draw and profile screams "right there when it changes."

2. In The Fine Print (No.4) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.44x
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Awarded Glory (No.7) — $7.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 48.9% | Value: 1.53x
Why He's the "could win" profile, but I'm not paying rank-3 place tax when the lane isn't value.

Roughie: Hotzino (No.10) — $15.00 / $3.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.1% | Place: 21.2% | Value: 1.18x
Why If the race turns into a late sprint and he gets clear, he's the one who can light up and steal it.

SEQUENCE LANES

Quaddie (R4–R7)

Smart: 1,6,11,4 / 1,3,4,6 / 6,10,11,2 / 6,7,4,10 (256 combos x $0.12 = $31.68) -- 12% flexi
Punty's take: Two open legs plus two wide ones means this is for entertainment with teeth. You need the quaddie logic to fire, Divine Mandate does the job in Race 4 and the others have to run in the right lane shapes.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - The rail is doing favours, but don't get stuck mid-pack.
When the rail is out and it's a Good 4, the fence-saver run can be worth more than people realise. If a jockey gets a cheap run early and doesn't get shuffled, they can hold a distinct advantage in the straight.

2 - First gear matters in maidens today.
We've got multiple first-time gear changes floating around the early races, and at Grafton that usually shows up as "travels better, then finishes cleaner" rather than a magic jump.

3 - The chaos handicap play is place-first thinking.
In Race 6, the favourite can still win, but the value route is grabbing coverage on the ones that can mirror the leaders' speed. This is how you survive if the front line bunches.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

I want Divine Mandate to do the respectful thing, Almanzas to keep it boring, and Rich Star to sneak over the line like he heard the phone ring. If the quaddie's going to bite, it's going to bite late. Gamble Responsibly.
