1450m · Maiden; · 13:40
✗ MISS -$13 Final

Race type: Maiden; 1450m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, leaders working early, backmarkers need luck
Punty read: This is the "who gets the run, who gets home" 1450. Confucius is going to want to trot along and set the table, and you can see why the market loves Hozumi too, she's got the speed to be in the right part of the track. Albert Palais has been getting hampered and slow-started at times, but when he's not losing ground early he's a solid each-way-style threat. The danger is any backmarker that gets into a soft pocket, but today the map says keep it close and go from there.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Albert Palais (No.1) — $3.40 / $1.60 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 30.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.74x
Why Big each-way profile if he avoids a slow start again, and the rail helps for a smoother run.

2. Hozumi (No.5) — $3.80 / $1.75 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 28.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.33x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Confucius (No.7) — $5.50 / $2.15 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.39x
Why Sets the race up, but he's the type that needs the run to be perfect, and the plan already covers the base.

Roughie: Palm Tree (No.12) — $11.00 / $3.50 🏆 2ND

✓ WON +$14 Final

Race type: Maiden; 1150m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, leaders dominate, stalking only if they get a breather
Punty read: This one's fast early, so the "sit midfield and hope" plan usually turns into a trip to the Shadow Realm. Slander is the obvious spearhead, and on a short track like this you want the horse that can keep switching off while still holding position. Blue Meteor and Areesea are the two that can run on if the leaders don't steamroll the field. Coco Dior can place, but if this race truly is hot, you need a runner that's built for the pressure, not just around it.

Top 3 + Roughie ($20.00 pool)

★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Slander (No.6) — $2.25 / $1.30 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$18.75
Prob 44.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.06x
Why He's a legit pace weapon, and when the pattern is hot he doesn't waste the trip.

2. Blue Meteor (No.7) — $8.50 / $2.45 🏆 4TH
Bet $5.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$5.00
Prob 10.0% | Place: 56.5% | Value: 0.80x
Why Could snag a place if the speed collapses, but win value isn't there enough.

3. Areesea (No.9) — $9.00 / $2.35 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 44.3% | Value: 1.50x

✓ WON +$20 Final

Race type: Maiden; 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, you can win from a stalk but traffic still kills
Punty read: Maiden 1300s are sneaky, it only takes one horse to get checked and suddenly everyone's a hero. Aladdin's Girl and Satono's Shout have the profile to sit close and kick, and the gear notes suggest a few first-ups are there for a reason. I Am Dynasty and Last Affair look like they can take advantage of a run through the middle, but if the leaders are on their game, the race will be a straight contest for the lane.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Aladdin's Girl (No.11) — $3.40 / $1.60 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✓ Won, net +$19.50
Prob 23.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.21x
Why She's the one that looks like she's in it for the whole ride, and the run style suits a 1300 with moderate tempo.

2. Satono's Shout (No.4) — $4.20 / $1.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.3% | Place: 64.4% | Value: 0.63x

✗ MISS -$4 Final

Race type: Class 1; 1200m (C1)
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, but the straight still punishes wide wandering
Punty read: Bang On Time is sitting in the sweet spot, and if he's midfield with clear air he's hard to stop. Vittozzi is the sort that can wear leaders down, while Maidoff is the "if you catch the right spot" type. Classic Pocket and Mercantilist are the each-way types who can run into the money if the race bunches up late, but if the tempo doesn't soften, their finishing burst has to be perfect.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.50 pool)

1. Bang On Time (No.10) — $4.40 / $1.85 🏆 4TH
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 20.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why Strong map profile for a class drop type and the rail should let him run straighter without extra work.

2. Vittozzi (No.13) — $6.00 / $2.25 🏆 2ND
Bet $5.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$6.25
Prob 17.6% | Place: 66.3% | Value: 0.95x

✗ MISS -$12 Final

Race type: Class 1; 1450m (C1)
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, longer run means you can get a winner who saves ground
Punty read: 1450 at Grange, if the leaders go a proper clip, the race opens up. Spill It looks like the right sort to keep grinding through the line, while Varjak is the one you're watching for a run through the field if the gaps appear. Beautiful You is there to run on and snag a piece, and Wallace Station is the one that can sneak into the finish if the field compresses late.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.50 pool)

1. Spill It (No.6) — $3.90 / $1.72 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $12.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$12.50
Prob 16.4% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.84x
Why Gelded, midfield style, and on pace enough to keep hitting the line once the leaders tire.

2. Varjak (No.2) — $6.50 / $2.40 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 40.4% | Value: 1.38x

TAB Stayers Lounge Gong Race Day (Bm64)
1450m · Benchmark 64; · 16:40
✗ MISS -$13 Final

Race type: Benchmark 64; 1450m (Bm64)
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so the kick timing is everything
Punty read: Slow benchmark 1450s are about judgement. If you chase too early, you'll be cooked before the straight. Glastonbury Girl is the classier option in this sort of tempo, and she profiles for a run where she can hit the line at the right moment. Beverly Hills is the speed option and can go close, but Satness is the value-type that might need everything to fall into place for the win. Sizzler and Ivy Legend are your place-value types if the race turns into a late scramble.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Glastonbury Girl (No.4) — $3.30 / $1.57 🏆 2ND
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 39.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.16x
Why Looks the most capable of delivering in a slow-tempo race, she's the one who can still change gears late.

2. Beverly Hills (No.11) — $3.40 / $1.60 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.71x
Why A real chance — but at $1.60 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Satness (No.1) — $12.00 / $2.55 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.7% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 1.20x

Oktoberfest Race Day October 10 (Bm64)
1150m · Benchmark 64; · 17:20
✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Benchmark 64; 1150m (Bm64)
Map & tempo: Hot pace, lots of pressure, winners usually come from the front
Punty read: With only six runners, there's nowhere to hide. St Johann looks the cleanest "control the race" type, and when synthetic filler first-up is involved, you just keep it simple, it's often about whether he gets an uncomplicated run. Lucand Magic looks like the speed threat too, but this is the sort of race where one leader can set the rhythm and the rest are chasing the wake. Punxsutawney Phil is the value outsider for a place chance, and Dragon Blood is the roughie if the front falls apart, like a sitcom cliffhanger.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. St Johann (No.4) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 4TH
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 31.6% | Place: 56.7% | Value: 1.45x
Why Maps to stalk and then take over, on a hot 1150 with fewer runners, that lane is gold.

2. Lucand Magic (No.5) — $2.55 / $1.40 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 30.5% | Place: 57.0% | Value: 0.85x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

Bet Tracked
Prob 23.5% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.79x

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Illawarra Grange on a Good 4 with the rail true, it's fine and the track's doing that "come get it" thing. This card's got genuine speed on deck, and when the leaders get a breather here they tend to take the whole pub with them. I'm steering you towards horses that either hold the line, or run on like they've still got unfinished business.

Now, the meeting's got 7 races and a fuckload of scrapes and scratches in the background, so the thing you're looking for is clean trips and simple racing. When the map says go forward, you go forward. When it says sit and pounce, you don't start your sprint on the wrong bend, like some first-date clown trying to impress.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Illawarra Grange, 1100-1450m range
Rail: True
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play speed to midpack, rail helping runners close to the action)
Weather: Fine (watch for dry-track sting, earlier leaders holding on)
Early lane guess: Out wide you can get away with murder for a position, but up the straight it's safer closer in.

Tempo profile: Predominantly genuine to hot early, with a few races where the backmarkers can still snag if the speed softens.
Jockeys to follow:
Nash Rawiller: Keeps finding the right spot, especially when the race shape gives him an easy run.
Chad Schofield: Deadly when the pace is honest and he's not juggling chaos in the run.
Zac Lloyd: If there's rail help and a stalking lane, he's the bloke you want in that trip.
Stables to respect:
C J Waller (3 runners): Multiple chances all over the card, and his horses generally race like they've been there before.
M, W & J Hawkes (2 runners): When they put gear on and go again, they usually don't come to just make up the numbers.
Richard & Will Freedman (2 runners): Watch their first-up and "quiet" plays, they like to deliver when the market's distracted.

Punty's take:

Illawarra Grange today is built for pattern racing. On a Good 4 with the rail true, you want horses that either have the pace to hold position, or the turn of foot to mow down runners once the leaders start doing more work than they promised. There's not much value in backing something that's forced to eat traffic, because the straight finish will expose every sin.

Race 1 is a classic maiden where the speed maps give you a backbone, and the each-way value sits with the honest, repeatable runners. Race 2 is where the track turns into a speedway, the front is doing the heaviest lifting, so you back the horse that's built to take advantage of that hot early tempo. After that, you've got a few races where gear changes and tactical positioning decide everything, so I'm not overthinking it, I'm backing the right races for the right run styles.

And yeah, this is the sort of day where your ticket either looks like a smart plan or a complete conspiracy by the end of the night. I'm trying to keep it smart, but I'm not here to be boring.

What it means for you:

Be aggressive in the races where the leaders are genuine and the rails help the "no-fuss" runs. That's where the favourites actually earn their keep, and where you can take win money without feeling like you've been stitched up by the handicapper.

For value, I'm leaning into the runners that the market's underestimating versus what they're doing on their racing story. If a horse is drifting hard, I treat it like a warning light on the dashboard. If a horse is getting firm support and still maps to travel, it's usually because something is lining up, and that's when you strike.

If you want a simple game plan: win your singles with the Big 3 spine, and use the Quaddie lanes to spread your risk where the races naturally open up.
