Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden Plate, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Rich Melody out front early, winners come from being forward enough to not get stuck
Punty read: This is a "speed settles, then stamina steals" maiden. Rich Melody wants to be the leader, and the map suggests that early pressure is real. The big thing for me is that Scootathewoota looks like the type that can get the right run position early and then keep grinding through the soft footing, and on a day where late room gets narrow, that's gold. Settle Petal is the classic "if it runs on, it pays for being brave" profile, and Karma Queen is there for the same reason, just with a different angle.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)
1. Scootathewoota (No.5) — $3.70 / $1.55 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$32.00
Prob 27.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.79x
Why On pace, Soft 5 friendly style, and it looks like it'll be close enough to hit the line hard.
2. Settle Petal (No.10) — $3.60 / $1.52 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $8.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$8.50
Prob 27.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.42x
Why Place value here is massive, and the late punch suits this track when the field starts thinning late.
3. Karma Queen (No.7) — $4.40 / $1.65 🏆 4TH
Bet $3.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$3.50
Prob 20.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.35x
Why Still in the right part of the race, and if the front runners wobble even a touch, she's in there.
Roughie: Rich Melody (No.2) — $9.50 / $2.60 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.8% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.00x
Why If the speed is too hot and she gets first crack late, she can snatch a win, but it's not the main lane today.
Race type: Maiden Plate, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, Bay Road Boy and Taajwar can angle forward, but it's not flying early
Punty read: Slow 1400m on a Soft 5 is where you want a horse that can switch on and not get bogged by the whole field travelling like it's in quicksand. Paganini is the one I want in the front third of the race, because that pace profile suits horses who can hold position and then find when the sprint-to-the-line starts.
Goodlookin' Guru is the value place engine. Tassoro and Bay Road Boy are for the "if this turns into a shorter sprint" scenario, but the heart of the race is Paganini, with Guru pressing and snagging the pieces that fall.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)
1. Paganini (No.1) — $2.25 / $1.17 🏆 WINNER
Bet $8.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$11.05
Prob 31.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why Should get the right rhythm in a slow tempo, and that makes Soft 5 less of a lottery.
2. Goodlookin' Guru (No.11) — $4.20 / $1.65 🏆 6TH
Bet $5.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$5.50
Prob 29.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.68x
Why Big place value, and it can hang onto the action when the leaders start to draw out.
3. Tassoro (No.3) — $9.00 / $2.60 🏆 2ND
Bet $5.50 Place — ✓ Won, net +$8.80
Prob 10.5% | Place: 53.2% | Value: 0.84x
Why Place option if it gets a clear path, and blinkers first time can sharpen the finish.
Roughie: Bay Road Boy (No.4) — $9.00 / $2.60 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.0% | Place: 57.9% | Value: 1.03x
Why Only really wins if the pace stays genuine and he gets a clean run, otherwise he's stuck chasing gaps.
Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, pockets matter, killers are the ones who can hold position through the cut
Punty read: This is the kind of race where the market tries to be clever, and the soft footing punishes the cleverness. Meg's Magic and Magic Island are right there in the thick of it, but Shalhavmusik is the value play because it's got the profile to land in the top three even if it's not the cleanest winner.
The big thing is this, at 1200m soft, getting held up ruins a horse's run, but it rarely ruins its ability to place if it stays in the right lane. That's why the place angle is loud here.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.50 pool)
1. Magic Island (No.3) — $3.90 / $1.55 🏆 5TH
Bet $6.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$6.50
Prob 25.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.18x
Why On pace profile, and it looks like it can get the right trip and keep digging on Soft 5.
2. Meg's Magic (No.2) — $3.40 / $1.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet $8.50 Place — ✓ Won, net +$3.82
Prob 24.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.00x
Why Consistent at this level and the type to keep finding when the run turns into a sprint.
3. Shalhavmusik (No.5) — $6.50 / $2.00 🏆 7TH
Bet $7.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$7.50
Prob 18.3% | Place: 41.3% | Value: 1.41x
Why The value place play, and it's the one I'm leaning on to pick up the pieces late.
Roughie: Lapilli (No.1) — $16.00 / $3.50 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.3% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.20x
Why Needs everything to go right, but if it lands a perfect run and the front stalls, it can sneak in.
Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, but it's a short sharp battle and being too far back gets expensive
Punty read: The Journo is the horse I want to lead the story here. There's enough pace structure to let a runner sit handy, and Soft 5 at 1200m rewards those who can keep traction and not throw away momentum. Prince Kuro and Live Forever are both in the mix, and Kushan Khanivale adds depth if the track decides to favour a different kind of run style.
Cosmic Spy as a roughie is the "if the heavens open and the run falls apart" ticket. Otherwise, this is about the ones who can run through the line without losing too much speed.
Top 3 + Roughie ($20.00 pool)
1. The Journo (No.3) — $4.60 / $1.65 🏆 2ND
Bet $12.00 Each Way ($6.00W + $6.00P) — Cashed, net -$0.60
Prob 21.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.16x
Why Backable all-rounder with the right race shape for a soft 1200m, and it should be in the money range.
2. Prince Kuro (No.5) — $8.50 / $2.50 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.38x
Why Take the Each Way anchor, and let the saver sit there as a bonus if needed.
3. Live Forever (No.4) — $8.50 / $2.50 🏆 6TH
Bet $8.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$8.00
Prob 13.7% | Place: 52.3% | Value: 1.37x
Why Place value is strong here, and it can keep going when the leaders start to feel the hit.
Roughie: Cosmic Spy (No.1) — $34.00 / $4.50 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.0% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 1.59x
Why Only wins if it gets a perfect run and the whole race opens up, but the value is there if chaos strikes.
Race type: Handicap, 2000m
Map & tempo: Slow pace with staying power the real decider, best runs are the ones that start saving ground then surge
Punty read: 2000m on Soft 5 is where the "good legs late" horses show their teeth. Geetee Forty is the one I want, because it has that profile where it can be travelling well enough and still have fuel for the last part. Reciprocal and High Society Girl are the other keys, Reciprocal for the map timing and High Society Girl for that soft-surface grit.
Back Me Up Benny as the roughie is there for the ones who bet with their heart, not just their head. But today the smarter money is on Geetee Forty to be in the right finish position.
Top 3 + Roughie ($18.50 pool)
1. Geetee Forty (No.7) — $4.80 / $1.85 🏆 7TH
Bet $14.50 Each Way ($7.25W + $7.25P) — ✗ Lost, net -$14.50
Prob 22.1% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.31x
Why Stays strong through Soft 5 and maps to make the last 400 about effort, not luck.
2. Reciprocal (No.3) — $3.90 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.80x
Why It's included because it's part of the structure, but we're not overspending on duplications.
3. High Society Girl (No.4) — $6.50 / $2.35 🏆 4TH
Bet $4.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$4.00
Prob 15.0% | Place: 50.4% | Value: 1.20x
Why Soft track suits its run style, and it can hit the line hard enough for a place.
Roughie: Back Me Up Benny (No.1) — $13.00 / $3.50 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.7% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 1.08x
Why Roughie path is real if it's back to its best and finds room early in the straight.
Race type: Handicap, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, this is a short sprint where position is life and late runs need space
Punty read: Bel Ragazzo is the one with the right sprint instincts and the map profile that actually suits 1100m. Precipice and One Whim are the backups if the race opens up late. The reason I like this card is the place leverage, because a 1100m Soft 5 finish is chaos, and chaos pays when you pick the right kind of runner.
Oie De Toulouse is short but not the one I'm forcing as an anchor, because the win lane here feels like it needs the perfect trip, and I'm more interested in the place value that the map supports.
Top 3 + Roughie ($16.50 pool)
1. Bel Ragazzo (No.1) — $4.40 / $1.80 🏆 8TH
Bet $12.50 Each Way ($6.25W + $6.25P) — ✗ Lost, net -$12.50
Prob 23.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.20x
Why On pace, and it's built to keep finding in a sprint where the ground is tacky.
2. Precipice (No.3) — $6.50 / $2.35 🏆 10TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 54.8% | Value: 1.20x
Why Part of the EW structure, but we're letting the main bet cover the risk.
3. Oie De Toulouse (No.4) — $4.20 / $1.72 🏆 5TH
Bet $4.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$4.00
Prob 15.6% | Place: 68.4% | Value: 0.77x
Why Place option if it gets the right midfield lane and doesn't get pinned down.
Roughie: One Whim (No.5) — $12.00 / $3.30 🏆 11TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.3% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.75x
Why Roughie path is it snags a spot on pace and then keeps running when the pack starts labouring.
Race type: Benchmark 56, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, on-pacers can hold keys, but 1600m punishes wide wandering
Punty read: Collated is the leader I trust most in this setup. The pace says On Any Tuesday is genuine, and Spangled Sipper is in the mix too, so we're looking at a race where positioning in the first half matters and stamina takes over without letting it become a procession.
Spangled Sipper is the one I'm expecting to be around the action. Stolen Kiss is the value place chance if the race opens up, and Belle From Hell is the roughie because sometimes Soft 5 and a genuine tempo turns it into a sprint for the bold.
This is one of those races where if you're too far back, you're basically watching from the wrong movie.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.50 pool)
1. Collated (No.1) — $4.00 / $1.65 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $8.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$8.50
Prob 26.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.33x
Why Strong map fit for 1600m, and it looks like it'll be in the right spot when the leaders start to tire.
2. Spangled Sipper (No.3) — $3.90 / $1.65 🏆 3RD
Bet $10.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$6.50
Prob 24.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.16x
Why If the genuine pace holds, it's the kind of runner that makes the finish about who stayed closer.
3. Stolen Kiss (No.5) — $4.50 / $1.75 🏆 WINNER
Bet $4.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$5.60
Prob 15.7% | Place: 51.0% | Value: 0.88x
Why Place chance looks live, and it's built to swoop if the race splits late.
Roughie: Belle From Hell (No.9) — $9.00 / $2.70 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.88x
Why Roughie path is it lands a sneaky run and claims the part of the track that still has traction late.
Sequence legs are the picks-engine's authoritative choice, rendered from the persisted ticket.
Smart: 3,5,4 / 3,4,7,1 / 1,4,3,5 / 1,3,5,9 (192 combos x $0.18 = $35.00) -- 18% flexi
The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.
1 - Scootathewoota (Race 1, No.5)✓ Won — $3.70
2 - Paganini (Race 2, No.1)✓ Won — $2.25
3 - Collated (Race 7, No.1) — $4.00
Meeting Stats
Selections
Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Murray Bridge GH on a Soft 5 with the rail doing its little money-chasing shuffle, and a shower or two floating around like it owns the place. Expect the first few races to feel honest early, then it gets sticky, slippery, and a bit savage in the last 200 when the wind starts whispering excuses.
This track is a "race IQ" meeting. If you're stuck too far back without the pace on, you're basically trying to park a boat in a carpark. The leaders can get away with things, but the real money is in the ones who are close enough to capitalise when the pack starts dropping its guts.
Big 3 spine today is three horses that actually fit the race shapes, and a multi that's built like a pub argument, confident but with a few knives hidden up its sleeve. If you're only doing one thing, it's follow the spine, then fill the gaps with place value in the tight ones.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Murray Bridge GH, Short to Middle (1200m to 1600m) card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 5 (expected to play Speed vs Stamina, with on-pacers still having a crack)
Weather: Shower or two, 13C, humidity 74%, gusts up a bit (watch for Rain risk later in the day)
Early lane guess: Tight to middle, but lanes open up late in the quaddie races
Tempo profile: Genuine early speed in the shorter races, then moderate to genuine longer where positioning matters
Jockeys to follow:
Connor Murtagh: Gets along early and turns races into position battles, useful at this tempo.
Jason Holder: Sticks to the speed map and knows how to avoid getting trapped in wet-track dead zones.
Todd Pannell: When he has the right horse, he upgrades gears and timing like it's routine.
Stables to respect:
G & N Searle & B Callanan (2 runners): They've got the midfield runners primed for soft-track timing.
D I Dodson (1 runner): Their horses tend to go the distance and show up late when they're meant to.
Shayne & Chelsea Cahill (1 runner): When their runner is structured for the race, you see it in the way they get to the right spot.
Punty's take: Soft 5 at Murray Bridge is a funny beast. You can get away with being a bit too forward early, but you cannot get away with being lost late. In Race 1 and Race 2, the races are short, the pace is relevant, and the market has plenty to say. I'm backing the horses that look like they can hold their spot and then keep finding, because the finish will be where it turns.
Race 3 and Race 4 are where you can make your day. These are the kind of cards where you back the right "engine", then you let the others cook themselves in the mud. In Race 3, the place play is the move, because at 1200m soft, the wrong trip can knock out your win chances fast, but being in the right pocket still pays. Race 4 is similar, except you can actually win with the right map, not just survive to place.
Race 5, 6, 7 are the "don't overthink it, just respect the patterns" section. Race 5 is a staying handicap at 2000m where the ones that can sit and then surge out of the back half have the edge. Race 6 is a sprint where speed is king and place value is gold. Race 7 is 1600m, the type of race where the leader can hold on just long enough, and the stalker can swoop if the tempo stays genuine.
What it means for you: If you want to play smart today, be aggressive in the races where the top picks are built for the map, but keep your spine tight. Place betting is where this card will reward you most, because Soft 5 compresses finishing power into fewer lanes, and the right horses keep showing up in the top 3.
So game plan is simple: anchor the Big 3 through the day, then when you see a horse getting on pace with a clean run path, you bet like it's a final season episode. When you see a roughie, you only take it if the path to winning is realistic, otherwise it's just lighting money on the barbeque.
And yeah, the multi is there because the spine is strong. But it's still a multi. Treat it like you're driving in the rain, fast enough to be fun, not reckless enough to be stupid.
