✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Maiden, 2200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, on-pacer vs stayers, expect a grinding battle rather than a sprint
Punty read: Warrior Boy has the "I'm here first and I'll still be here at the line" vibe. With pace slow, the on-pace runners get first crack at controlling the race and synthetic usually rewards that clean roll. Kessey and Liquid Blue can only win it if the front section doesn't light up too hard, but that's the whole point, this should be controlled.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Warrior Boy (No.1) — $1.52 / $1.04 🏆 3RD
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 61.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.48x
Why Barrier 2, on pace, and the slow tempo screams "don't get cute, sit on the speed."

2. Kessey (No.3) — $5.50 / $2.00 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 57.1% | Value: 0.92x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Liquid Blue (No.5) — $6.00 / $2.20 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 29.8% | Value: 0.78x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.

Roughie: Aviva (No.4) — $8.50 / $2.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 0.60x
Why If it turns into a wide, messy finish you could see something, but at these thin place divs it's not the right betting vehicle.

✓ WON +$10 Final

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, short sprint, so the right position off the speed matters
Punty read: Ogun looks like the logical starter, but this is 1200m so if he misses the jump or gets awkward, the whole race turns into a "who had the best trip?" lottery. Wendy looks the type to slot and grab a slice if the speed stays soft. Forseti's the danger without being the main bet, he's the kind that can creep into the top three if luck lands.

Top 3 + Roughie ($11.50 pool)

1. Ogun (No.1) — $2.30 / $1.14 🏆 WINNER
Bet $9.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$12.35
Prob 34.7% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.12x
Why Barrier 7 isn't a gift, but he's got enough racecraft to get involved in a slow 1200m. If he handles the first corner, he's there at the finish.

2. Wendy (No.8) — $5.50 / $1.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $2.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$2.00
Prob 22.0% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.42x
Why She's got the place profile, and with the tempo slow, she can pick them off late without needing the perfect run early.

3. Forseti (No.4) — $5.50 / $1.75 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.70x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Roughie: Harlows Pride (No.6) — $11.00 / $2.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.0% | Place: 14.0% | Value: 1.06x
Why Roughie path is a chaos stumble up front and him sneaking into the first four, but I'm not crowding the ticket for it.

✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, so the race can burn early, then reward the adaptable
Punty read: Call To Arms and Globalist are your anchors. On a genuine-pace 1400m, you don't need hero acceleration, you need correct positioning through the race and then the courage to keep going when everyone else is thinking about it. Our Sallyann is the classic "appears at the right moment" type, if the speed irons out.

Top 3 + Roughie ($21.00 pool)

1. Call To Arms (No.1) — $2.33 / $1.17 🏆 2ND
Bet $17.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$17.00
Prob 27.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.77x
Why He's built for this pressure, he can tuck in and then strike at the right time without needing to lead every yard.

2. Globalist (No.2) — $3.15 / $1.40 🏆 3RD
Bet $4.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$1.60
Prob 25.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.50x
Why If the pace is honest, the leader types set it up for the ones stalking. Globalist should be there to capitalise.

3. Our Sallyann (No.5) — $4.50 / $1.65 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.0% | Place: 63.3% | Value: 1.17x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Roughie: Vienna Game (No.6) — $9.40 / $2.60 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.9% | Place: 33.9% | Value: 1.13x
Why Roughie wins if it turns into a real speed collapse and she's the last one still moving. In a tight maiden, that's ask.

✗ MISS -$13 Final

Race type: Maiden, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, longer run, on-pacers get more time to do their thing
Punty read: This is the race where Noivern's map and tempo fit each other like glove and shoe. Slow 1600m means the leaders don't just set it up, they keep it. Thee Auld Trick is the one that can tack onto the right spot and then grind home, Unshackled is more "in the mix for a slice" than a full-send win.

Top 3 + Roughie ($21.00 pool)

1. Noivern (No.2) — $2.98 / $1.45 🏆 2ND
Bet $17.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$17.00
Prob 26.0% | Place: 68.3% | Value: 0.94x
Why With a slow tempo, his on-pace role is gold. He should be travelling with options instead of chasing gaps.

2. Thee Auld Trick (No.6) — $5.40 / $1.95 🏆 WINNER
Bet $4.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$3.80
Prob 14.3% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.87x
Why She can sit nearer than people think and then lift late, especially if the leaders start to compromise each other.

3. Unshackled (No.5) — $4.90 / $1.82 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.8% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.07x

Roughie: Miss Margot (No.10) — $11.50 / $3.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 25.2% | Value: 1.37x

✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Benchmark 65 handicap, 2200m
Map & tempo: Slow staying battle, so position and persistence win more than flash
Punty read: El Ultimo is the standout for me, he's the on-pacer that gets the trip to make use of the slow tempo. Wren's the type that can keep plugging and land in the money if the race doesn't sprint away. Little Thief is live, but his price and profile make him more of a place flavour than a core.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. El Ultimo (No.2) — $4.70 / $1.82 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 16.6% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.04x
Why Slow 2200m is his lane, he's got the speed for the earlier part and he should keep finding when it matters.

2. Wren (No.4) — $5.90 / $2.25 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.2% | Place: 42.3% | Value: 0.96x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

✗ MISS -$12 Final

Race type: Open handicap, 2200m
Map & tempo: Slow 2200, so staying power plus position is the whole game
Punty read: This is Purple Prose's race to lose early, but Proserve is the one I like for value because he's got the kind of running that can work in a slow staying affair. Possess sits right in the "keep it simple, keep him safe, then let him run on" lane. The danger is if everyone decides to go hunting and it stops being a slow grinding test.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)

1. Purple Prose (No.3) — $3.15 / $1.72 🏆 4TH
Bet $12.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$12.00
Prob 24.4% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.00x
Why She's got the tactical ability to be in the right part of the race, and this sort of staying tempo suits her pattern. Even if she's not value, she's the right shape.

2. Proserve (No.1) — $4.30 / $2.15 🏆 UNPLACED

✗ MISS -$13 Final

Race type: Restricted 60 handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so the ones who can keep contact and sprint late get paid
Punty read: Tears Of Victory is your main engine. On a moderate pace, a leader who can hang on is lethal, and he's got the profile to do it. Honor Mission is the class feel around him, Elegant Explosive can run a cheeky race if the rails save someone. Rollins is the roughie because when pace is pressured, the late movers get their chance.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

Punty read: Wanderin Spelle has to overcome a wide barrier story, but her running style gives her a legitimate chance to be there at the right time rather than struggling to get past early. Voguish is the on-pacer that gives you a clean race plan. Grouse is the "value that can actually place" because she's built for a late dash into the money, especially if the track plays sticky.

Race type: Special Condition, 1200m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, so it's about acceleration and staying in the pocket
Punty read: Third Decree is the one I trust most at the business end. On Polytrack at 1200m with speed, you want a horse that can sit close and then respond when the pressure comes, not one that needs a perfect gap to appear out of thin air. Boss 'n' Highheels and Elusive Impact are the "if the race goes their way" saviours.

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Riccarton Park synthetic with the rail True and the sky doing that overcast tease, then raining on your chips' parade. Tempo looks like it might stay workable, but if the drizzle ramps up early you'll see lanes open late and some front-runners get picked off like they forgot to lock the car.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Riccarton Park Synthetic, 1200m to 2200m card
Rail: True
Official going: Synthetic (staying classic, no hard carry needed)
Weather: Overcast, watch for the wet gremlins (rain risk high overnight into early racing)
Early lane guess: Hold the on-pacers in your eyesight, then go hunting for the runners that can sprint late without needing a miracle run
Tempo profile: Pace should be on the slow side in the early section, then the middle distance races start to test whether your horse actually wants to hit the line
Jockeys to follow:
Jack Taplin: He keeps landing the bus at the right stop, and on synthetic he's usually there when the race tightens up
Matthew Cartwright: If you want one that can slot and pounce, he's often the bloke making things happen without looking rushed
Bridget Grylls: When she's on, she's normally on for a reason, especially in the races where positions matter
Stables to respect:
M & M Pitman (4 runners): Consistent, and they know how to get horses moving in the exact kind of conditions where chaos punters panic
Andrew Carston (2 runners): Their runners tend to be "ready", and they're not afraid to be prominent early
Brian Court & Jesse O'flaherty (2 runners): They're the type to have one finishing strong when everyone else is still deciding

Punty's take:

This meeting's got that synthetic vibe where speed still wins, but only if the horse can actually hold a lane, then keep grinding through the last part. When it's wet-ish, the backmarkers don't automatically get a free pass either, they just need the race to turn into a "run on late" story, not a "no room, no hope" story.

I'm building my day around three sorts of horses: the obvious on-pacers (because pace is king when the tempo stays soft), the ones with proven track presence, and the ones getting market support that matches their run style. If you're getting cute in races where the field isn't huge, you're basically playing roulette with extra steps.

And yeah, the rain risk is real. If it firms up a touch, your on-pacers go longer. If it stays slushy, the finish becomes a battlefield and your place betting matters a lot more than your pride.

What it means for you:

Be aggressive early, but smart aggressive. Race 1 is basically a "get on the rail's good side and don't overthink it" situation, then you step into the maidens where one or two can pop if the speed collapses. I'm not looking to blow it all up in the wide chaos races, I'm looking for the places where the leaders set it up and the market is telling you who's live.

For your game plan: lock your top pick wins where they're clear, back places when draw and pace line up, and in the chaos-handicap style races, take the shorter-priced "proper racehorse" first then sprinkle the roughie where it's got a path to running on. If the rain hits harder than expected, keep an eye on the ones that can move without being forced wide from barrier One to the shadow realm.

Now, let's go race-by-race and make some noise.
