This is one of those Rockhampton cards where the speed map isn't a suggestion, it's a job description. Early, you can see it with Another Champers and La Premiere, the race shape screams "leaders first, rest chasing". Then R2 is your classic maiden plate where the market finds the right horse and punts get excited too early, but the winner is usually the one that can sit closer without melting.

R3 to R4 is where the day flexes. Seneschal has the kind of profile you want on a Soft 5 sprint, and then R4 becomes a BM where pace is genuine and the cheapies aren't always the right ones. If you're hunting value, you'll want to do it with a horse that's been backed into it, not with a legend that just looks "hopeful".

And yeah, the quaddie lanes are spicy. R5 to R7 have enough open runners that you can't go full hero mode. You need structure, then a little chaos to keep it fun.

This is a "leaders are doing the heavy lifting" sprint. No.3 Another Champers jumps and wants to be in front, and with this small field, you can almost hear the race call already. No.2 La Premiere is the dangerous one because she's got the blinkers first time and can jump up and keep pressure on, while No.4 Barbarian King is the overlay chaos, drifting out like he's trying to get out of the betting conversation. If the front runner gets a breather, Another Champers is the one doing the work and hitting the line.

This looks like a market find. No.10 Red Scentsation has the kind of profile where she can start to unwind late, and the gear change is getting the right attention. No.6 Next Exit is the "if you need one to be there" type, but the value play is No.11 Urban Reality for a place lane, and No.2 British Navy is more than just a name, she keeps turning up and the market has firmed.

If the pack settles, Red Scentsation is the one sprinting into the right part of the track late. If they crawl, the value on the right-on pace types is there too, but I'm not chasing a fairy tale.

No.4 Seneschal is the obvious on-pace anchor. She's drawn inside, has been building, and on a Soft 5 sprint, those rails-adjacent runs can be gold if there's any sting left at the finish. No.8 Moochi Starlight is the danger because she's got the kind of profile where she can sit handy and then hit the line, and No.6 Limero is the value-ish type, suited to the track and distance swing.

It's a class 5, so expect a few to keep fighting late. Still, Seneschal looks the one who gets the most honest chance to win without being buried.

No.3 Metalcraft is the obvious leader, but the drifting and the price pressure means you pay for the position. No.1 Thee Creek is the longer price who can run the race well, but the model has her out of the staked place bands today.

For a short sprint on a Soft 5, I like sticking with the horse that's hardest to knock out of the frame. Goldarnie does that.

No.5 Next Stop Jupiter is the classier map angle here. He's drawn well enough to get into the action and, on Soft 5, that kind of early tempo control is worth its weight in gold. No.6 Belvedere Miss is the place option, and she can run on into the right spot when the leaders start to tire.

No.3 Snazzy Snitzel is drifting out in the market and that's a warning, because on a track like this, those gaps don't open forever. No.10 Making History is an interesting rough style, but the plan says skip the win bet and let the place do the talking elsewhere.

No.10 Luxor Prince is the value place watch, but the model keeps him as no bet on purpose, and No.1 Aloysius is your roughie type, with gear changes and a bit of upside. Still, this one feels like a race where being in the right lane early matters more than dreaming from the clouds.
