For all of Punty's tips for Sha Tin, head to https://punty.ai/tips/sha-tin-2026-06-13
Rightio Loose Units, Sha Tin's serving up a good track with a bit of drizzle in the air, which usually means the honest horses get their chance and the mugs who wait for a miracle get sent home lighter than a jockey's whip. We've got a proper mixed bag today: a couple of sprints where map and barrier matter a hell of a lot, then a nasty little quaddie where the last four legs look like the end of Mad Max.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Sha Tin, 1000m-1800m card
Rail: C+3 Course
Official going: GOOD (expected to play fair to on-pace and handy runners, with the inside/mid lanes the place to be early)
Weather: Rain, 25.9C, wind 2km/h NNE (watch for a slight sting in the track, but nothing that screams bog)
Early lane guess: Inside-to-mid lanes should be the sweet spot, especially in the sprints
Tempo profile: Plenty of races with genuine pressure, but the hot ones are Races 7 and 9; the quaddie is a full-blown raffle and needs cover
Jockeys to follow:
Brenton Avdulla — keeps popping up on live chances and the combos with his mounts are looking healthy
Hugh Bowman — the old gun has a few key rides and he's one of the few who can turn a mess into a result
Zac Purton — still the bloke everyone watches, and when he's on the right one the market usually isn't mucking around
Stables to respect:
K W Lui (lots of runners) — has Sharp Planet, Pejibaye and a few other live darts; when this mob has one ready they usually aren't shy
D A Hayes (lots of runners) — strong across the card with Turquoise Velocity, Sunday's Serenade and company; plenty of depth
J J Size (lots of runners) — always worth a look, especially when the map and class line up
Punty's take:
Sha Tin on a good deck with a bit of rain is the sort of day where the sprinters with dash get first crack and the swoopers need the leaders to do a proper Viking battle out front. The early races aren't all the same though: Race 1 looks like Sharp Planet can control it, while Race 2 is a proper Class 5 scrap with enough rough edges to make a bookie sweat. Then you get into the feature stuff and the card starts behaving like a Marvel crossover - too many moving parts, too many egos, and one bad map can wreck the whole scene.
The big story is pace. Race 7 and Race 9 should be run at a lick, which is exactly where a horse like Superb Spirit or Turquoise Velocity can either be the hero or the bloke who gets cooked trying to hold position. Meanwhile the mile and 1400m stuff is where the class horses can put the cue in the rack and make their own luck if they're good enough. The meeting's got plenty of live value, but it's also got more traps than a Scooby-Doo episode, so don't go staking like you've got a private jet waiting on the apron.
What it means for you:
This is not a day to smash every favourite like a lunatic and hope the racing gods sort it out. The smart play is to lean into the anchored runners where the map and class line up, then get a bit selective in the open races. You want to be heavier around Sharp Planet, Pejibaye, Turquoise Velocity and Superb Spirit because they're either the right horse, the right map, or both. The rest? A lot of them are place-or-nothing types, and that's fine - that's where the value lives when the win market gets a bit silly.
For sequences, keep your eyes peeled on the quaddie only if you enjoy suffering with style. Races 8 to 11 are a proper minefield and you want enough coverage without turning it into a full tax return. The shorter sprints and the open middle-distance races are where the day can be won; the roughies are there for exotics and place money, not for heroic graveyard shifts on the win tote.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
1 - Sharp Planet (Race 1, No.4) — $6.40
Why Maps to sit on the bunny from barrier 1, gets first crack in a race where the speed isn't murderous, and the blinkers go on at the right time. Feels like the one they all have to run down.
2 - Turquoise Velocity (Race 9, No.3) — $6.50
Why The map is hot enough to suit a genuine leader, and this bloke brings the best blend of speed, form and race shape. If he crosses cleanly, he's going to be a bloody handful.
3 - Superb Spirit (Race 7, No.3) — $2.90
Why The class horse in a hot 1200m where the leaders can soften each other up. From barrier 2 he gets every chance to stalk the speed and pounce when the front bunch starts blowing bubbles.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~120.64 = ~$1206.40 collect
Race 1 – Griffin sprint skirmish
Race type: Griffin Plate, 1000m
Map & tempo: Slow tempo, with Sharp Planet likely to boss it from the inside while the backmarkers need a miracle
Punty read: This is the sort of 1000m where if you don't have speed, you're basically arriving after the party's over. Sharp Planet draws barrier 1, has the right gear tweak with blinkers on, and maps like the bloke who's already got the cab home sorted. Quantum Wukong and Jedi Spurs are the obvious threats, but they're relying on the right shape unfolding, and that's always dicey in these short-course nags. Dragon Generation is the roughie with a path if the race falls apart, but don't go pretending this is a picnic - it's a chess match with hooves.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Sharp Planet (No.4) — $6.40 / $1.90
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 18.8% | Place: 20.9% | Value: 1.59x
Why The draw's perfect, the map's perfect, and the blinkers could be the final shove. If he doesn't control this, he should at least be right there when they turn for home.
2. Quantum Wukong (No.7) — $5.30 / $1.40
Bet $5.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$2.00
Prob 16.3% | Place: 18.5% | Value: 0.93x
Why Backmarker in a short dash - he'll need the leaders to overdo it and that's never a comfortable watch.
3. Jedi Spurs (No.6) — $2.00 / $1.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.4% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 0.52x
Why Short enough in the market that you don't want to be paying for the privilege unless you're absolutely certain the race shape hands it to him.
Roughie: Dragon Generation (No.2) — $14.00 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.6% | Place: 14.6% | Value: 1.97x
Why First-time tongue tie can wake one up, and if the speed isn't as soft as it looks, this one can sneak into the finish late.
Race 2 – Class 5 chaos cooker
Race type: Class 5, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, with the inside/on-pace runners getting the first shot and the wide draws needing luck
Punty read: This is a proper old-school Class 5 mess - the kind where everyone has a case and half of them have excuses. Robot Knight from barrier 1 gets the dream run, while Always Fluke and Crazy Treasure are the types that can lob in a decent spot if the map behaves. The roughie angle is Viva Chaleur, who's been knocking on the door without busting the gate down. Handsome Blond is the smoky at a price, but this is still a race where you can get stitched up by one bad step and a bad ride.
Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)
1. Robot Knight (No.3) — $6.10 / $2.10
Bet $8.50 Each Way ($4.25W + $4.25P) — ✗ Lost, net -$8.50
Prob 13.4% | Place: 23.5% | Value: 0.84x
Why Barrier 1 is gold here, and with the right run on speed he's the one who can get every cheap split in the book.
2. Always Fluke (No.4) — $5.50 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.4% | Place: 23.3% | Value: 0.62x
Why Right on-pace map, but the price doesn't give you a big enough hug for the grief this race can hand out.
3. Country Dancer (No.8) — $7.20 / $2.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.7% | Place: 19.4% | Value: 1.04x
Why Maps okay enough, but from that setup he needs the race to be run at the right clip and a few others to underperform.
Roughie: Crazy Treasure (No.6) — $11.00 / $4.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 15.9% | Value: 1.21x
Why Not impossible at all if the leaders overcook it; he'll be storming home late if the front-end brigade burns the candle at both ends.
Race 3 – Mid-distance bunfight
Race type: Class 4, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo, but plenty of horses look like they want the same piece of real estate
Punty read: This is the sort of race where you can throw a blanket over half the field and still not feel silly. Call Me Sparkle has the map advantage from barrier 1 and gets the first shot, Sky Deep looks the one with the tactical speed to stalk, and Prestige Hall is the honest type who always turns up. But the real sting is that the roughie King Of Fighters can pop up if the race turns into a slog. It's not sexy, but it smells like a race where the bloke with the clean run gets the spoils.
Top 3 + Roughie ($0.00 pool)
1. Call Me Sparkle (No.5) — $14.00 / $3.50
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — ✓ Won, net +$11.25
Prob 10.5% | Place: 22.9% | Value: 1.53x
Why Barrier 1 and a map that says he gets every chance. If they hand him an easy lead or box-seat run, he'll be a hard catch.
2. Sky Deep (No.4) — $12.00 / $4.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.0% | Place: 21.9% | Value: 1.58x
Why The gear tweak is interesting, and if he settles close enough he can be right in the thick of it.
3. Prestige Hall (No.12) — $8.10 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.4% | Place: 18.8% | Value: 1.05x
Why Honest as the day is long, but he's not exactly jumping off the page at the price.
Roughie: King Of Fighters (No.2) — $18.00 / $6.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 15.7% | Value: 2.63x
Why Needs the race to melt down a bit, but if the tempo gets sticky and they start walking late, he's the one who can lob out of the pack.
Race 4 – Staying grinder
Race type: Class 4, 1800m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, with not a lot of genuine speed and a bunch of horses wanting to settle handy
Punty read: The mile-and-a-quarter cousin of a family argument. Enthralled is the one they all have to beat on raw class, but he's got enough little map niggles that you wouldn't call it a cakewalk. Romantic Fantasy is the value play that can stalk and run on, while Smart Fat Cat and Sharpen Bright are the types who can nick a slice if the pace is pedestrian. This is where the form book gets slapped around by a horse that just stays the trip and doesn't panic under pressure.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Enthralled (No.2) — $3.80 / $1.90
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✓ Won, net +$0.53
Prob 13.4% | Place: 17.2% | Value: 0.62x
Why He's the class runner, but the map isn't handing him a free lunch. Still, if Bowman gets him into the right spot, he can do the job.
2. Romantic Fantasy (No.11) — $24.00 / $4.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 10.6% | Value: 1.86x
Why Big price, but the run style suits a race that could get bunched up late. If they're all slowing together, this one can be the sneak.
3. Smart Fat Cat (No.12) — $5.30 / $2.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 13.0% | Value: 0.57x
Why Nice enough horse, but the market isn't exactly begging you to dive in.
Roughie: Sharpen Bright (No.13) — $26.00 / $6.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.2% | Place: 11.4% | Value: 2.77x
Why Needs the race to turn into a staying war and the last 300m to become a war of attrition. If that happens, he's in the story.
Race 5 – Sprint pinball
Race type: Class 4, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, with Pejibaye and the other on-speed runners getting the first chance to control it
Punty read: This is one of those 1200m races where the map matters a hell of a lot, but so does who copes with the squeeze. Pejibaye is the best ticket in the book even from barrier 11 because he has the form to absorb the work and still fight out the finish. Juicy Dragon is the honest one who'll be thereabouts, and Fashion Legend is the roughie with the right shape if the pace gets honest. There's enough early pressure here to make the race interesting without making it a full hostage situation.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Pejibaye (No.2) — $7.10 / $1.90
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✓ Won, net +$2.62
Prob 13.0% | Place: 23.2% | Value: 1.14x
Why The form is sharp and the race shape won't scare him. He might have to burn a bit early, but he's the right horse to carry it.
2. Juicy Dragon (No.1) — $8.80 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 25.4% | Value: 1.07x
Why Track and trip are in his wheelhouse, and from barrier 7 he should land close enough to have a crack.
3. Day Day Victory (No.8) — $7.30 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 20.5% | Value: 1.13x
Why Capable on his day, but the price doesn't scream "smash me" and the map isn't giving him a free ride.
Roughie: Fashion Legend (No.12) — $34.00 / $8.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.0% | Place: 8.5% | Value: 3.62x
Why Old boy knows how to win and he's got the right type of profile if the race gets strung out late. Massive price, tiny headache if he lands the right run.
Race 6 – Open 1400m scramble
Race type: Class 4, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, with Meaningful Dragon and a few others close to the speed; plenty of runners in the fight
Punty read: This is a race where the lead-up forms all start arguing with each other. Meaningful Dragon is the one with the best tactical setup, Romantic Laos is the eye-catching value horse who keeps turning up at the right level, and Sunday's Serenade is the sort of hardy type who can run a cheeky race if the tempo gets wonky. Peridot is the roughie, but more as a "maybe if everything goes perfect" than a line in the sand. If you want a race to leave alone, this is pretty close to it.
Top 3 + Roughie ($0.00 pool)
1. Meaningful Dragon (No.1) — $10.00 / $3.40
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — ✓ Won, net +$114.00
Prob 13.5% | Place: 28.3% | Value: 1.74x
Why Fits the map beautifully and gets the run style a 1400m Sha Tin dash usually wants. If he jumps, he can make his own luck.
2. Romantic Laos (No.6) — $25.00 / $6.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 17.9% | Value: 3.47x
Why Big roughie with a proper case. He's been around long enough to know how to turn up when the race shape suits, and this could be one of those.
3. Sunday's Serenade (No.3) — $16.00 / $4.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.1% | Place: 22.2% | Value: 1.43x
Why He'll be better than his last run and can stalk a speed that isn't ridiculously hot. Needs gaps, but if they come, he's live.
Roughie: Peridot (No.13) — $10.00 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.9% | Place: 13.7% | Value: 1.14x
Why Gear changes might wake him up, but he's going to need the race to fall in a heap and then some.
Race 7 – Hot tempo 1200m
Race type: Class 4, 1200m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, with Island Buddy, Mabubu, Lucrative Eight and Incredible Moment all wanting a slice of the front
Punty read: This one should be run like the last scene in a cop movie - everyone's chasing something, and somebody's about to blow up. Superb Spirit is the proper class horse and the one who can sit just off the speed and pounce. Lucrative Eight has the right pace profile but the price isn't doing you any favours, while Island Buddy and Mabubu can each run cheeky races if they don't get cooked early. If the leaders go too hard, this could be a swooper's picnic; if one of the on-pacers steadies them, it changes the whole complexion.
Top 3 + Roughie ($16.50 pool)
1. Superb Spirit (No.3) — $2.90 / $1.60
Bet $7.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$14.25
Prob 22.3% | Place: 35.1% | Value: 0.83x
Why The class runner in the right race shape. If Bowman can park him within striking range, the rest are running for second.
2. Lucrative Eight (No.6) — $4.40 / $1.70
Bet $9.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$6.30
Prob 13.0% | Place: 23.7% | Value: 0.60x
Why Maps to be right there in a hot one, and that's exactly how you want to play him. Place is the safer angle with the tempo set to "utter nonsense".
3. Island Buddy (No.1) — $8.90 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.6% | Place: 21.5% | Value: 0.73x
Why Barrier 1 is a gift, and if he controls the race without lighting the fuse too early, he's more than capable of hanging around.
Roughie: Mabubu (No.4) — $23.00 / $5.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 16.5% | Value: 3.23x
Why He can roll forward and make a nuisance of himself. If the front end gets messy and he gets a soft enough split, don't be shocked.
Race 8 – Feature mile
Race type: Class 2, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, with Soleil Fighter likely setting the tone and the midfielders getting the run of the race
Punty read: Now we're into the meat of it. Packing Angel is the one the model leans on, and the race shape is fine for him if he can get the sort of midfield run that doesn't leave him bailed up. Stunning Peach is the sexy value horse in the race, and Soleil Fighter looks the map horse who could turn into a nuisance if left alone. This is the kind of mile where one clean run can be the difference between a holiday and a payout.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Packing Angel (No.3) — $4.10 / $1.60
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 18.8% | Place: 28.1% | Value: 0.78x
Why The class horse for the day if he gets the right sit. The mile suits, the jockey is elite, and he should get every chance to finish over the top.
2. Stunning Peach (No.4) — $15.00 / $4.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 19.5% | Value: 2.74x
Why Big price for a horse who can absolutely run a cheeky race if the pace is genuine. This is the one punters love to ignore until it bites them.
3. Sagacious Life (No.1) — $5.40 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.1% | Place: 23.9% | Value: 0.86x
Why Honest enough, but the last-start mess and the price make him more of a candidate than a certainty.
Roughie: Soleil Fighter (No.2) — $11.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.6% | Place: 17.9% | Value: 1.38x
Why Can control or sit just off the speed, which is never the worst way to attack a mile at Sha Tin. If he gets a soft lead, he's dangerous as hell.
Race 9 – Hot 1200m speed war
Race type: Class 3, 1200m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, with Turquoise Velocity, Lucky Planet and Notthesillyone likely to make this a proper burn-up
Punty read: This is one of the race-of-the-day betting puzzles. Turquoise Velocity is the arrowhead and the one with the right run style to spear across and keep rolling, while Grand Eagle looks like the value punter's joy at a fair price. Blazing Wind is honest enough but the map isn't exactly rolling out the red carpet, and Mighty Commander is the roughie who'll be flying late if the leaders start coughing. It's a race where the on-pacers can either look like geniuses or look like they've just watched their own funeral.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Turquoise Velocity (No.3) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✓ Won, net +$4.99
Prob 18.1% | Place: 29.9% | Value: 1.40x
Why Best horse for the heat map. He can roll forward, make his own race, and in this sort of contest that's half the battle won.
2. Grand Eagle (No.7) — $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.8% | Place: 10.2% | Value: 0.81x
Why The roughie with the cleanest path to making a nuisance of himself. Cross-over noseband first time is interesting, and he can be the last one standing if the race breaks up.
3. Blazing Wind (No.2) — $6.50 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.8% | Place: 21.4% | Value: 0.64x
Why Good horse, bad enough map to make you sweat. He can run a good race, but he's not getting gifted anything here.
Roughie: Mighty Commander (No.6) — $16.00 / $5.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.2% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 1.53x
Why Backmarker in a speed war. If they go hammer and tongs early, he'll be the one trying to steamroll them late.
Race 10 – Mile grinder
Race type: Class 3, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, with Withallmyfaith likely leading and the backmarkers getting a chance to swoop
Punty read: This is the sort of mile where the map says one thing and the result often says another. Power Of Vitam is the best horse on paper and the one the model likes to be the last man standing, while Endued and Steps Ahead are the honest types who can run well without necessarily smashing the line. Big Return is the roughie worth respecting because he's the one with the upside if the tempo is solid and the inside gets cooking. This is not a race to go hero mode on the favourite; it's a race to have a plan and stick to it.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Power Of Vitam (No.4) — $6.60 / $2.60
Bet $10.00 Each Way ($5.00W + $5.00P) — ✗ Lost, net -$10.00
Prob 14.4% | Place: 29.9% | Value: 1.02x
Why The map says he gets the race run to suit, and the class is there. Needs the right late split, but that's exactly what this shape offers.
2. Endued (No.2) — $6.70 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.9% | Place: 27.4% | Value: 0.58x
Why Honest, fit, and should land in the right spot. He just doesn't quite scream "bomb the bank" at the odds.
3. Steps Ahead (No.1) — $8.90 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 21.9% | Value: 1.65x
Why Barrier 1 and a genuine tempo help him a touch, but he still needs the right sort of drag into the race.
Roughie: Withallmyfaith (No.14) — $9.40 / $4.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.6% | Place: 15.3% | Value: 0.68x
Why Maps to lead and can run a cheeky race if left alone. If they let him dictate, he'll be a nuisance for a long way.
Race 11 – Last-race lottery
Race type: Class 3, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo, with a stack of on-pace types and not a lot of room for error
Punty read: The day ends with a proper head-scratcher. Super Express is the class and the map isn't horrible, but the price means you're carrying the can for a skinny return if he bolts in. Baby Sakura is honest and can be right there, Perfectday is the roughie with some upside, and Conrad Patch is the one who can stun a few people if he gets the right run from the soft draw. Dragon Air Force is the monster-price dart with a decent case, but it's one of those races where a lot of things need to go right at once.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Super Express (No.3) — $3.20 / $1.60
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), return $20.80 (wins) / $10.40 (places)
Prob 16.5% | Place: 33.2% | Value: 0.48x
Why The class horse, full stop. But at the price you want him doing enough without asking you to remortgage the house.
2. Baby Sakura (No.12) — $5.60 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.3% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.04x
Why Solid enough, runs honest, and the type who can keep grinding when others start flailing.
3. Perfectday (No.9) — $10.00 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 21.3% | Value: 1.01x
Why Better than the plain form reads, and if the tempo gets a bit messy he can sneak into the finish.
Roughie: Conrad Patch (No.14) — $17.00 / $4.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 16.3% | Value: 1.40x
Why The inside draw and the weight drop are the hooks. If he lands the right run and the leaders are doing enough work up front, he can absolutely run past a few tired souls.
SEQUENCE LANES — SINGLE OPTIMISED TICKET
Quaddie (R8-R11)
Smart: 3,1,4,2 / 3,2,6 / 4,1,2,14,3 / 12,3,9,14,1 (300 combos x $0.27 = $80.00) -- 27% flexi
Four open-ish legs, so this is a proper survival ticket, not a victory lap. R8 and R10 are the anchors; R9 and R11 are where the smoke gets in your eyes.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - On-pace is the theme early
Sha Tin's good track and C+3 rail usually reward horses that can put themselves in the picture without burning petrol like a bloke in a Ferrari in the Maccas drive-through. Races 1, 5, 7 and 9 all have obvious speed stories, and that's where the day can be won or lost.
2 - The roughie graveyard is real
The long-price end of the market has been a mug's game for us in that $20-$50 zone, so don't get cute just because a horse looks like a movie underdog. The right roughie today is one with a clear map path, not one you're backing because the name sounds cool.
3 - The big quaddie is entertainment with a pulse
Races 8 to 11 are exactly the sort of sequence that makes punters age 12 years in 12 minutes. If you want a line to cheer for, keep it tight around the class runners and don't pretend every leg is a banker - that way lies pain and empty chips.
THE LOOSE UNIT LOUNGE
Sha Tin's giving us a few nice anchors and a few absolute pain-in-the-neck races, so play the day like a bloke who wants to come back tomorrow, not a hero who empties the joint in one sitting. Trust the map, respect the value, and don't get sucked into every shiny favourite like it's the final scene of Top Gun. Gamble Responsibly.
