Rightio Loose Units, Wangaratta is a nine-race card running 1100m to 2000m on a Good 4, with the rail on the True Entire Circuit and a live shower of 1.8mm since 9am that the weather people reckon could keep coming back all afternoon. The meeting's real story is pace. Race 9 is a Hot Pace affair with three leaders in the same race, while Race 4 looks like a dawdle, so the pace map does a lot of the talking today. Grab a coffee, settle in, and let's get into it.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Wangaratta, 1100m to 2000m card
Rail: True Entire Circuit
Official going: Good 4 (Rainfall: nil)
Weather: Fine. Live conditions show 1.8mm rain since 9am, 1.8mm in the last hour, gusts 16.7km/h. Rain risk is flagged at 90%+ at 02:00, 05:00, 08:00, 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00.
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Race 1 Genuine Pace with Super Scholar the only leader. Race 2 Moderate. Race 3 Genuine with Foxtrot Charlie the sole leader. Race 4 Slow. Race 5 Genuine with Dance Day the lone leader. Races 6, 7 and 8 Moderate. Race 9 Hot Pace with Angling For Info, Rosie's Prophecy and Blue Moon Summit all in the leaders' group.
Jockeys to follow:
Billy Egan: rides eight today, including Kinky Mistress in Race 1 and Do The Dirty in Race 2, so he is never far from the action.
Damien Thornton: seven rides, among them Blue Parrot in Race 1, Move It in Race 3 and Smashing Success in Race 4.
Lachlan King: seven rides, with He's Our Boy in Race 3, Red Light Rachel in Race 4 and Sheer Lunacy in Race 7 all on the card.
Stables to respect:
Ben Brisbourne (10 runners): the biggest operation on the card, with Fiore Darancio, He's Our Boy, Red Light Rachel, The Quiet Immortal and King Kauffo all racing.
Craig Weeding (9 runners): spread across Race 1, Race 2, Race 4 and Race 9, including Coco De Luxe in Race 9.
Andrew Dale (5 runners): Super Paradise, Jingu Express, Dubai Fountain, Densetsu and Royal Turf's stablemates keep the yard busy across the back half.
Patrick Payne (5 runners): Kinky Mistress in Race 1, Helioson in Race 7 and Royal Turf in Race 9 give the yard a real look.

Punty's take: The speed is the story today. Race 9 is the hot one: Angling For Info, Rosie's Prophecy and Blue Moon Summit are all mapped to lead, so the pace should collapse into something messy and the back of the field gets a real go. That is why I like Coco De Luxe sitting midfield, because a hot pace hands the closers a sniff. Race 4 is the opposite, a slow-pace 1590m where Dela Bella and Rein Me In get the pace advantage, and the 1.14 map factor on Dela Bella is the kind of edge I like to see. Race 5 has the lone leader in Dance Day and Circus Moon is the one I trust stalking the speed, while Race 3 has Foxtrot Charlie as the only real front runner, which is why Rock About sits so nicely in the middle. Races 1 and 2 are where I see the most traffic. Brookelinda and Ravens Glow are the two I want, but neither is a banker, so mind the price on the day.

What it means for you: Be aggressive on Race 3 and Race 5, where the map and the form line up, and back off the big multi thinking until the early speed sorts itself out. Race 4 is a place-leaning race for me, with Dela Bella the only one I'd put each-way money on. Race 9 is chaos with a shape to it, so keep stakes sensible and look at the closers. Race 6 and Race 7 are where I'd rather be careful, because the favourites are short and the value is mostly in the place market. Keep the staking tight on the win bets, and let the placings carry the bulk of your risk.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - The Mansman (Race 6, No.3) — $2.75
Why Backmarker on a moderate pace with a 13-start Kyneton run as his latest form, and he is the one most likely to win the Winsec race at a short price.
2 - Circus Moon (Race 5, No.10) — $2.90
Why Backmarker in a genuine-pace 2000m with Dance Day as the only leader, and he came second at Seymour last start, so he has the fitness and the shape.
3 - Rock About (Race 3, No.5) — $4.40
Why Midfield on a genuine-pace 1300m with a 1.07 map factor and a third at Seymour last start, the best value of the three despite the short price.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × 35.09 = $350.90

Race 1 – Master King Security Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, with Super Scholar the only leader (LEADER). Kinky Mistress and Fiore Darancio sit ON-PACE, Blue Parrot and Valour Vino are MIDFIELD, and Brookelinda, Snowy Mountains and Ubique are BACKMARKERS. Valour Vino has the pace advantage, while Super Scholar carries a disadvantage.
Punty read: Brookelinda is the bet. She is a backmarker in a race with a genuine pace up front, the Tongue tie goes on for the first time, and Caulfield Heath 1000m is the most recent start in her Extended Form, where she won. Brookelinda is 8 for the season from one start on good, so the 1100m shape and the trip from the back suit. Super Scholar goes to the front with a gear change set (bit lifter off, cross-over nose band on, ear muffs on), so he is the one to watch for early speed. Kinky Mistress is the danger on-pace, and Blue Parrot finished third at Kyneton and runs a quick last 400. Boots Off is the roughie with a winkers change and a place-only shape.

Top 3 + Roughie ($9.50 pool)

1. Brookelinda (No.13) — $3.80 / $1.70
Bet $9.50 Win, return $36.10
Prob 18.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker with a genuine pace up front and the Tongue tie going on first time. She has the hot jockey and trainer line that I like, and the 1100m suits her from the back.
2. Kinky Mistress (No.6) — $4.50 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.5% | Place: 49.3% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Blue Parrot (No.4) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with a third at Kyneton last start and the sectional run to finish, a real chance on the board.

Roughie: Boots Off (No.10) — $11.00 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 28.1% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why Winkers go on for the first time, and his path is a sit-and-run off the speed if the leaders go hard and Super Scholar comes back to the field.

Race 2 – Wangaratta Bearings & Industrial Supplies Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, with no leader listed. Ravens Glow, Do The Dirty and Scorpion are ON-PACE, I'm Da Boss and Estival are MIDFIELD, and Muddy, Prolific Angel and Assisi are BACKMARKERS. Muddy has the pace advantage and Ravens Glow carries a disadvantage.
Punty read: Ravens Glow is the bet. He is the most likely winner on the card, with a 23.3% win line, and his Extended Form has a 900m win at Wangaratta on 2026-10-07 and a 2nd at Wangaratta 1400m in July. The map factor sits against him, so he needs to do the work on the speed line. I'm Da Boss has a lot of raced-wide excuses, so he is a live danger if the speed wins from midfield. Do The Dirty has a gear change with ear muffs off and a 4th at Bairnsdale, Swan Hill 1200m second last start.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Ravens Glow (No.8) — $4.00 / $1.75
Bet $15.00 Win, return $60.00
Prob 23.3% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why On-pace with a win at Wangaratta 900m last start and a second at Wangaratta 1400m before that. The map factor is a knock, but the form is hot and I'm taking the win at this price.
2. I'm Da Boss (No.2) — $5.00 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Do The Dirty (No.10) — $7.50 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 34.9% | Value: 0.90x Steady since tip
Why On-pace with ear muffs off first time and a 2nd at Swan Hill, he is a strong place chance behind the favourite.

Roughie: Getthereandwin (No.1) — $9.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers and tongue tie go on together for the first time, and if the leaders go slow, he can take a run from the rear.

Race 3 – Mason Park Funerals Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1300m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, with Foxtrot Charlie the only leader (LEADER). Somethingintheair, Numbersneverseen and Jezebel Jenni are ON-PACE, Rock About, Lei and He's Our Boy are MIDFIELD, and Shields, Dextrose and Tallingas Diamond are BACKMARKERS. Princess Geisha and Shields have the pace advantage.
Punty read: Rock About is my bet. He is midfield on a genuine pace, with a 1.07 map factor and a 24.6% win line, the best on the card. His last start at Seymour 1200m was a third, and he runs a sectional time rank of 2 in his form. Foxtrot Charlie leads and is the one to watch, because he's the only pure front runner and has the speed. Lei is the danger on the midfield line and has the Blinkers going off first time.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Rock About (No.5) — $4.50 / $1.85
Bet $13.00 Win, return $58.50
Prob 24.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.11x Steady since tip
Why Midfield on a genuine-pace 1300m with the best win line on the card, and a third at Seymour last start that tells you he's ready.
2. Foxtrot Charlie (No.2) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.40 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Move It (No.13) — $4.80 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.55x Steady since tip
Why A late-season trainer with the T-HOT line and a sectional that suits a closer's trip.

Roughie: Shields (No.11) — $9.50 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.7% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers go on first time and he has the pace advantage in a genuine-pace race, so if the leaders burn, he's a live swooper.

Race 4 – Thanks Jeff Anselmi Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1590m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, with no leader listed. Ashen Knight, Open Fire and Red Light Rachel are ON-PACE or MIDFIELD, Dela Bella and Dingle are BACKMARKERS, and Dela Bella and Rein Me In have the pace advantage.
Punty read: Dela Bella is the each-way bet. He has the pace advantage on a slow pace, a 1.14 map factor, and a third at Seymour last start. He is well placed for a backmarker in a slow 1590m race. Volestain is the other danger, a backmarker with a 21.3% win line, and he gets the same pace advantage on the day. Open Fire is midfield with a 1.07 map factor and sits right on the place line behind the top two.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Dela Bella (No.5) — $4.80 / $1.95
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), collects $43.88 if it wins ($31.20 win + $12.68 place), $12.68 if it only places
Prob 21.3% | Place: 54.0% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker on a slow pace in a 1590m race with the pace advantage, and a third at Seymour last start. He is the one that wins from the back if the race shapes slow.
2. Volestain (No.12) — $3.30 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Open Fire (No.8) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with a 4th at Ballarat last start and a 1.07 map factor, he's a good place chance.

Roughie: Windsor Chariot (No.3) — $11.00 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.2% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with a sectional time rank of 2 and the T-HOT line; he needs the slow pace to turn into a sprint home.

Race 5 – Sportsbet Race Replays Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 2000m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, with Dance Day the only leader (LEADER). Hold This is MIDFIELD, Circus Moon, My Rosalie and Riverlea Prince are BACKMARKERS, and Kermalina and A Rus In Grinzing have the pace advantage.
Punty read: Circus Moon is the bet. He's a backmarker in a genuine-pace 2000m race with Dance Day the only leader, a 27.0% win line and a second at Seymour 1600m last start. He's the clear favourite, but he's also the one that gets the run home. My Rosalie backmarker and Soaring Legend backmarker are the danger on the pace, and Riverlea Prince is the roughie with the gear as it sits.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Circus Moon (No.10) — $2.90 / $1.45
Bet $15.00 Win, return $43.50
Prob 27.0% | Place: 54.3% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker on a genuine pace over 2000m and a second at Seymour last start, he is the one I trust for the win at a short price.
2. My Rosalie (No.8) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.6% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Soaring Legend (No.12) — $4.60 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.1% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.60x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker with ear muffs changed and a sectional 600 and 400 that are fastest in his form, a real finisher.

Roughie: Riverlea Prince (No.2) — $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker with a 4th at Seymour last start, a dangerous closer with the pace advantage if the genuine speed burns out.

Race 6 – Winsec Savings & Loans (Bm56)

Race type: Benchmark 56, 2000m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, with no leader listed. Mozu Marcassin and Phantom's Chase are ON-PACE, The Mansman, Catalona and Cool Star are BACKMARKERS or MIDFIELD, and Super Paradise, Dane On Tour and Ain't Tellin have the pace advantage.
Punty read: The Mansman is the bet. He's the clear market leader with a 31.3% win line and a 70.0% place line, a backmarker who runs his race late. His last start at Kyneton 1856m was a second, and the trainer and jockey combination on the hot line sits well. Mozu Marcassin is the danger on the speed and has a 3kg rise in weight, while Catalona is the one to watch from midfield.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. The Mansman (No.3) — $2.75 / $1.37
Bet $10.50 Win, return $28.88
Prob 31.3% | Place: 62.6% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker over 2000m with a second at Kyneton 1856m last start, the favourite on the form and the one to beat.
2. Mozu Marcassin (No.2) — $7.50 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.95x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.45 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Catalona (No.9) — $4.80 / $1.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.55x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with a 2nd at Echuca last start, and his form at the distance has been competitive.

Roughie: King Kauffo (No.4) — $10.00 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker with a 2nd at Wodonga last start and the pace advantage on a moderate pace over the trip.

Race 7 – Vale Brian Creed (Bm56)

Race type: Benchmark 56, 1590m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, with no leader listed. Hurco, Strummer and Too Big are ON-PACE, Helioson, Late Harvest and Sensational Ruler are MIDFIELD, and The Quiet Immortal, Give Some Lip and Positivo are BACKMARKERS. Sheer Lunacy has the pace advantage, and Sacred Ingot and Teddy Boy carry disadvantages.
Punty read: The Quiet Immortal is the bet. He's a backmarker with a 22.1% win line and a 3rd at Warrnambool 1400m last start, and he gets the Good conditions with a distance record. Helioson sits midfield with a 2nd place fit and runs at the top of the market on the day. Give Some Lip is the back-door danger with a 2nd at Ballarat Synthetic 1500m, so keep one eye on him. Sensational Ruler has some weight warnings, but his place line is strong.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. The Quiet Immortal (No.1) — $4.00 / $1.72
Bet $13.00 Win, return $52.00
Prob 22.1% | Place: 53.5% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker over 1590m with the most wins at this trip and a 3rd at Warrnambool last start, he has the form and the closer's trip.
2. Helioson (No.2) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip

Prob 11.0% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.10x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker with a 3rd at Ballarat Synthetic last start and a sectional 600 that is the fastest in his form.

Roughie: Sensational Ruler (No.4) — $18.00 / $4.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.2% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with a 1st at Kilmore 1450m last start, he can get a run late if the field stays close.

Race 8 – Christmas Party @ Wangaratta - On Sale Now (Bm56)

Race type: Benchmark 56, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, with no leader listed. Black Adam, Vaderlee and Dubai Fountain are ON-PACE, Lujaego, Hollerasaurous and Raven's Silver are ON-PACE or MIDFIELD, and Ti Tree Lad and Chip'n'dale have the pace advantage.
Punty read: Lujaego is the bet. He is on-pace with winkers going on first time, a 16.5% win line and a 4th at Echuca last start. He has the form that holds up at the trip, and the hot jockey line gives him a chance. Hollerasaurous is the danger from midfield, a 189-day spell after a first-up record of 1 win from 1 at 1:1-0-0. Raven's Silver has the weight warning but a strong place line.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Lujaego (No.12) — $5.00 / $1.95
Bet $13.00 Win, return $65.00
Prob 16.5% | Place: 54.1% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why On-pace with winkers going on first time and a 4th at Echuca last start, he is the one I want to be on.
2. Hollerasaurous (No.3) — $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked

3. Raven's Silver (No.7) — $9.50 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.5% | Place: 37.7% | Value: 1.00x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with the place line and a track record that is solid at Wangaratta, he's the one for the exotics.

Roughie: Express Guard (No.8) — $11.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with blinkers back on and a sectional 400 that ranks second in his form, a closer who may run on late.

Race 9 – Melbourne Cup Day @ Wangaratta (Bm56)

Race type: Benchmark 56, 1100m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, with Angling For Info, Rosie's Prophecy and Blue Moon Summit as leaders. Coco De Luxe, Royal Turf and Swift Hit are MIDFIELD, Heidi Dancer and I Am Algadon are ON-PACE, and Helluva Barty and Alpinova are BACKMARKERS. Helluva Barty has the pace advantage, and the three leaders are at a disadvantage.
Punty read: Coco De Luxe is the bet. He sits midfield in a hot-pace 1100m race, with a 15.1% win line and a 3rd at Albury last start. He has the 2 wins from 5 on good record and the pace shape to get a run from the middle. Royal Turf is the danger on the midfield line, and Helluva Barty is the closer with the pace advantage. Three leaders in the same race is a recipe for chaos, so I'll be backing the one who sits.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Coco De Luxe (No.2) — $3.60 / $1.65
Bet $10.50 Win, return $37.80
Prob 15.1% | Place: 43.6% | Value: 0.54x Steady since tip
Why Midfield in a hot-pace race with 2 wins from 5 on good and a 3rd at Albury last start, the one who gets the trip.
2. Royal Turf (No.7) — $4.80 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.54x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.95 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Helluva Barty (No.1) — $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.9% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 0.89x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker with the pace advantage in a hot-pace race, and the closer's trip is the one that gets the run.

Roughie: Alpinova (No.17) — $15.00 / $4.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.5% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.98x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker with a 2nd at Moe last start, if the three leaders cook each other, Alpinova can run past the lot of them late.

SEQUENCE LANES

EARLY QUADDIE (R2–R5)

Smart: 8,2,10 / 5,13,2,11 / 12,5,8 / 10,12,8 (108 combos x $0.3704 = $40.00) -- 37% flexi
Punty's take: R4 and R5 are the tight legs with Volestain and Circus Moon, while R2 and R3 are wide open. The overall risk is high, and the 33.3% flexi means plenty of tickets can still pay something. An entertainment ticket more than a banker.

QUADDIE (R6–R9)

Smart: 3,9,2 / 1,2,13 / 12,3,7 / 2,7,1 (81 combos x $0.395 = $32.00) -- 39.5% flexi
Punty's take: R6 is the tight leg with The Mansman and Mozu Marcassin, while R8 and R9 are wide open. A quaddie needs a $5 to $10 winner somewhere to pay well, so the open legs are where the money lives. Entertainment-flagged, honestly.

BIG 6 (R4–R9)

Smart: 12,5,8,3 / 10,12,8,2 / 3,9,2,4 / 1,2,13,5 / 12,3,7,8 / 2,7,1,17 (4096 combos x $0.00122 = $5.00) -- 0.12% flexi
Punty's take: Six legs with five open races means the hit rate is very low, so this is an entertainment-only ticket. The outlay is small, and the payout only matters if the chaos delivers across the back half.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Winkers on first time for Lujaego
Winkers go on for the first time for Lujaego in Race 8, the one I'm backing, after a 4th at Echuca last start. Watch the market.

2 - Tongue tie on first time for Brookelinda
Brookelinda gets the tongue tie on first time in Race 1, and she has the T-HOT trainer line running at a 22.0% strike rate over the last 100. The gear and the trainer are both pointing the same way.

3 - Coco De Luxe steps up in weight
Coco De Luxe is 6kg up from last start in Race 9 and the data says he has been best at lighter weights. He still gets the hot-pace shape, so he has the right trip if the weight doesn't bite.

FINAL WORD FROM THE RATBAG REPORT

Nine races, three leaders in the last one, and a Melbourne Cup Day card that can't make up its mind. Keep the stakes honest, the mates close, and let the chaos pay for the pub.
