Rightio Loose Units, Avondale on a Heavy 10, rails true, everything squeaks in the mud like a Roomba with a grudge, and the leaders better earn it early. Seven races, 83 runners, 15 scratchings, so expect a heap of chaos glue, plus plenty of horses doing one job well and everything else badly.
The track at Avondale when it's Heavy 10 is basically speed meets survival. You want horses that can keep their feet, keep momentum through the slog, and still have something late when everyone else's lungs turn to wet paper. There's genuine early tempo in a couple of these races, but the real separator is who can travel through the heavy without getting parked and bullied.
My spine for the day is a mix of proper market animals and sneaky value types, and I'm leaning hard into place-first thinking where it suits. If you're trying to win everything on the nose in a Heavy 10, you're either brave or you're fundraising for the bookies. We're here to print.

Avondale Heavy 10 is basically a group chat where everyone's arguing about pace, then the last 200m is you finding out who can actually handle the punishment. In Race 1 and Race 2, the pace is real enough to make leaders useful, but the track is so sticky that being stuck is just losing with extra steps.
Race 4 looks like the classic maiden where one horse just has better heavy legs and cleaner decision-making at the junctions. Black Diamond is the kind of favourite you back in disgust because it's doing the job you can see, even if the field tries to chaos it up. Then Race 5 goes more "restricted handicap chess", where the run that looks too good early is usually the one that gets pinched late.
Race 6 and Race 7 are where you earn your stripes, because maidens can turn into lottery tickets when they get bumped or slow to begin. I'm going with the spine for the winners, then I'm throwing a roughie in where the map and the market drift suggest the chances are there, even if the price looks rude.
What it means for you:
Bet this meeting like a bloke with mud on his boots and a plan in his pocket. Prioritise place where it's locked that the finish is likely, because on Heavy 10 the difference between 1st and 5th can be one bad step and one clipped heel.
For the aggressive side, I'm putting the clearest wins on the board in the races where the horses are set up to either lead or sit close enough to take advantage when the pack tires.
