Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Devonport Synthetic, head to https://punty.ai/tips/devonport-synthetic-2026-07-26
Rightio Loose Units, Devonport on the synthetic with the rail doing its thing, this meeting is speed with a side of chaos. Big horses can still cop it up here if they get boxed or the lane tightens, so we're backing the right blokes early, then playing defence when the market gets clever.
This card's got that "front end wins, but only if you're placed properly" vibe. Bruny Boy sets up the speed in Race 1, then Race 2 is a full-throttle chaos handicap where the favourite might get the kiss on the cheek but not the win. By Race 6 and Race 8 we should be into cleaner form, and that's when the spine bets are meant to cash, like a bloke finally answering his own door after three missed calls.
Cheers to everyone taking the long way around for value, legends. I'm here for winners, but I'm also here for the exact moment the favourite drifts, you clock it, and you pounce with the one that actually fits the race shape.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Synthetic, 1000-1650m card
Rail: True
Official going: Synthetic (expected to play closer to Firm than a bog, speed holds)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 10°C, wind NNW, rain chance is low, watch for slick synthetic lanes when gusts hit
Early lane guess: Rail-side can save ground early, but if the leaders get strung out, wide running still threatens
Tempo profile: Generally genuine to moderate pace early, later races slow down, so positioning matters more than heroics
Jockeys to follow:
Lauryn Bingley: she's riding like she's got a mission, and she's not scared to be in the fight from the front half of the field.
J L Keys: consistent, clean work, good at landing runners into the right spots when chaos flares up.
Chloe Wells: shows up in races where the map sets, and she knows how to squeeze a run without wrecking the horse.
Stables to respect:
L A Wells (7 runners): they keep hitting placings, and when they've got one suited, it's usually not a fluke.
Trent Wells (6 runners): this bloke's got the knack of finding the right rhythm for horses under pressure.
Barry Campbell (5 runners): when they gear up and the pace is on, they tend to bring something that can actually stick.
Punty's take:
Synthetic at Devonport is a funny beast, it gives you less "excuse" and more "execution". If you're on pace, or you're sitting one off with a clear lane at the business end, you're right in it. If you're stuck back and the field doesn't open up, you're essentially watching the winner ride a different race.
Race 1 is your opener and it's basically the Speed vs Speedy Overachiever showdown. Bruny Boy has the kind of on-pace map where you can see him trying to control the lane, then Upheaval gives you that classic runner who can still charge late even if he doesn't lead. Race 4 and Race 6 are where the class edges should show up, because C3 and C4 grades on synthetic often reward the horse with the simplest, cleanest trip.
What it means for you:
Punt like you're thinking three turns ahead. In the chaosier sprints (Race 2 and Race 5), you want either the right on-pace presence or the place bet angle where trips get messy. In the more structured races (Race 3, Race 4, Race 6, Race 8), you can be a bit more aggressive with win intent because the better horses should find their way through.
So here's the spine: Bruny Boy into The Real Man into Coal River. That's your "front foot" multi core. Then we fill with the roughies that can win if the race shape goes their way, because synthetic doesn't forgive, it rewards the right lane at the right time. And yeah, when the market drifts, it's often because someone saw a trip risk. Our job is to know which one is actually the risk, and which one is just the horse getting ignored.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Bruny Boy (Race 1, No.3) — $1.56
Why Leads the pace map, and on synthetic that's basically picking up free metres every time they hit the straight.
2 - The Real Man (Race 6, No.3) — $3.55
Why Has the sharp on-pace profile and class to hit the front or sit right on it without getting lost in the pack.
3 - Coal River (Race 8, No.1) — $2.77
Why Suits the slow tempo, draws in well, and looks built for an economical run that turns into the finish.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~15.00 = ~${150.00} collect
Race 1 – Goodstone Group Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden; 1650m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, leaders likely in control from early
Punty read: Bruny Boy (No.3) is the early rhythm, he's the type to carve out the tempo and make late runners earn every inch. Upheaval (No.8) looks dangerous because he can still go forward late without needing everything to fall perfectly, that's the synthetic cheat code. Alla Rustica (No.1) is wide trip roulette, and Come To Light (No.4) is the interference bounce-back type, so keep an eye on whether there's a clear lane for him early.
Top 3 + Roughie (25.0 pool)
1. Bruny Boy (No.3) — $1.56 / $1.04
Bet $16.00 Win, return $24.96
Prob 37.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.84x
Why Pace maps him into the lead role, and he's got enough class to keep going when the late charges come.
2. Upheaval (No.8) — $3.60 / $1.35
Bet $7.50 Place, return $10.12
Prob 37.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.55x
Why Value springs from the fact he can run his race and still be in the money even if he's not the first one to hit the front.
3. Come To Light (No.4) — $8.50 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.1% | Place: 32.9% | Value: 0.93x
Why He might get a cheeky lane late, but the place confidence just isn't there enough to stick a bet on it.
Roughie: White Star Suzie (No.10) — $14.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.8% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.54x
Why If the race falls apart completely, she can still sneak into a place with a gap, otherwise you're just paying for hope.
Race 2 – Ladbrokes Big Bets Copy Now Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden; 1150m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, speed is genuinely on
Punty read: This is chaos handicap energy in a maiden suit. Brutal Empire (No.13) is the market's favourite for a reason, but the whole race is set up for trips and blocking. Equivaster (No.11) is the sort to run on and give you that "how the hell did he get there" feeling if the tempo holds. Rum'un (No.7) is a classic place in the right moment play, and Sir William (No.8) has enough pace presence to be a threat if the front gets messy.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Brutal Empire (No.13) — $3.30 / $1.55
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $24.75 (wins) / $11.62 (places)
Prob 20.7% | Place: 68.6% | Value: 0.96x
Why He's got enough speed to avoid being stuck, and in a short race chaos can produce a winner who still finds the line.
2. Equivaster (No.11) — $7.40 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.27x
Why Big EW instincts are there, just not worth doubling up when the ticket's already carrying the muscle.
3. Rum'un (No.7) — $8.15 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.25x
Why Might run into it, but the place confidence isn't strong enough to justify the stake.
Roughie: Sir William (No.8) — $9.15 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.5% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 1.01x
Why If there's a real pace collapse and a lane appears, sure, but you're not underwriting a miracle.
Race 3 – Racing Owners Club Tasmania (Bm72)
Race type: Benchmark 72; 1880m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, longer trip so position locks in
Punty read: This is a three-headed monster with Happy Clan (No.2), Whippin Piccadilly (No.3), and Don't Give Up (No.1) all map-fitting their chances. Happy Clan and Whippin Piccadilly look like they'll be involved early enough to dictate the rhythm, which matters at 1880m when the finish comes quick. Don't Give Up is the one I trust most to keep finding the line even if the race starts to stretch. Tizsa Nice Drop is the danger if the top end sets it up and then the leaders flatten.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)
1. Happy Clan (No.2) — $3.30 / $1.32
Bet $12.00 Win, return $39.60
Prob 26.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.18x
Why He's positioned to be in the right spots early and stay there long enough to hit the line, longer races suit that style.
2. Whippin Piccadilly (No.3) — $2.48 / $1.14
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.87x
Why The trip should be perfect, but the place price isn't paying fair enough.
3. Don't Give Up (No.1) — $3.90 / $1.45
Bet $7.50 Place, return $10.88
Prob 25.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.30x
Why He's the clean bounce-back profile and should run on through the middle, which is where 1880m races are won.
Roughie: Tizsa Nice Drop (No.7) — $10.30 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.5% | Place: 19.2% | Value: 0.75x
Why Needs the leaders to set it up and then stop, otherwise he's just chasing shadows.
Race 4 – Meridian Horse Transport Plate (C3)
Race type: Class 3; 1350m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, on-pace and midfield both dangerous
Punty read: Megalita (No.3) is the early class and looks like she can sit comfortable enough to turn it into a sprint lane. Azonto (No.6) is the pace angle, and if the inside holds, she can run down anything trying to come across. Tikken (No.2) from barrier 1 is the sneaky type, sometimes the inside runner just gets the run of the race. Stroak Of Art (No.5) is the roughie for when the market underestimates the wider move and late fitness.
Top 3 + Roughie ($16.00 pool)
1. Megalita (No.3) — $3.80 / $1.57
Bet $10.50 Win, return $39.90
Prob 27.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.41x
Why Class and map, she looks built to keep rolling, and synthetic rewards those who can hit the straight balanced.
2. Azonto (No.6) — $2.79 / $1.32
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.78x
Why Right race for her style, just the place price is stingy.
3. Tikken (No.2) — $4.05 / $1.60
Bet $5.50 Place, return $8.80
Prob 20.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.10x
Why Barrier 1 helps, and she should be able to control the trip without doing anything silly early.
Roughie: Stroak Of Art (No.5) — $10.30 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 52.1% | Value: 1.17x
Why He needs the pace to stay honest, but if it does, he's got enough to sneak into the finish.
Race 5 – Ladies Day (Bm60)
Race type: Benchmark 60; 1350m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, watch for a tactical slowdown late
Punty read: This is where the race shape can flip on you. The Spirit Of Zero (No.2) is the value magnet, because when she gets a lane, she keeps going and the market pressure says she's not just along for the ride. Zoete's Rock (No.3) and Stardarmus (No.6) are both place-aligned runners who can hit the frame if the pace doesn't collapse. No Access (No.8) is a threat for the right run through the middle, but this is still a race where controlling position wins more often than wide hero moves.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.50 pool)
1. The Spirit Of Zero (No.2) — $6.70 / $2.50
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $50.25 (wins) / $18.75 (places)
Prob 15.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.45x
Why She maps for a trip where you can't get too badly buried, and the value is in the fact she can still place if things get messy.
2. Zoete's Rock (No.3) — $4.30 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.93x
Why She's good enough, but we're already carrying the EW load with the main value.
3. Stardarmus (No.6) — $4.80 / $1.85
Bet $7.50 Place, return $13.88
Prob 15.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.04x
Why If the tempo steadies, she's the type to keep picking off runners and be there late.
Roughie: Savage River (No.4) — $9.15 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.5% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.19x
Why Can run a big one if she gets a clean hit at the line, but this ticket is already tight on the likelier scripts.
Race 6 – Stables At Spreyton Plate (C4)
Race type: Class 4; 1150m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, on-pace is the language
Punty read: This is The Real Man (No.3) territory. He should get every chance to either lead or stalk without getting dragged into a mucked-up tempo. Cool Heart (No.5) is the other main threat because she's got the profile to sit midfield and still sprint through the last straight. Wild Nights (No.8) is the wildcard if the race gets split and the lane opens, and Get 'em Warrior (No.6) is the rough value if something goes wrong up front.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.50 pool)
1. The Real Man (No.3) — $3.55 / $1.60
Bet $6.00 Win, return $21.30
Prob 30.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.49x
Why On synthetic at 1150m you need to be on your bike early, and he's got the speed to make the finish about him.
2. Cool Heart (No.5) — $3.90 / $1.65
Bet $9.50 Place, return $15.67
Prob 21.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.15x
Why If the pace holds and she's not caught wide, she should be in the first three with zero drama.
3. Wild Nights (No.8) — $8.50 / $2.60
Bet $7.00 Place, return $18.20
Prob 10.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.25x
Why The "split and sprint" type, if the race breaks early she can rocket into the money.
Roughie: Get 'em Warrior (No.6) — $11.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 38.7% | Value: 1.03x
Why Needs a very specific run, and with this pace he might get squeezed unless he finds a lane fast.
Race 7 – #gottaluvtassieracing Hcp (C1)
Race type: Class 1; 1150m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, leaders crowding the first half
Punty read: It's Houlihan (No.5) for the speed story, she can put herself on the correct lead and make every other runner pay for chasing. Bella Chinkara (No.8) is the value place angle because she's capable of sitting midfield and then finishing off when the hot pace does its job. Geegeeschaser (No.13) is the grinder who could slot in for a place if the top gets tired. Fierce 'n Fabulous (No.3) has the profile to be there when the leaders wobble, but Dennyson (No.1) is the one you watch for the wrong reasons, interference and tough trips can take them out.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Houlihan (No.5) — $2.82 / $1.45
Bet $10.50 Win, return $29.61
Prob 19.7% | Place: 50.6% | Value: 0.77x
Why She's the map leader and at 1150m the ones dictating the early tempo usually earn their pay.
2. Bella Chinkara (No.8) — $5.45 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.4% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 1.32x
Why She's live, just the place price is sitting outside the range we're trying to protect.
3. Geegeeschaser (No.13) — $5.00 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.4% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.08x
Why Could run a nice race, but the place confidence isn't strong enough for this ticket.
Roughie: Dennyson (No.1) — $9.15 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.75x
Why He can ping up, but at this level you need everything to line up, and we're paying for clean odds.
Race 8 – The White Wardrobe (Bm68)
Race type: Benchmark 68; 1650m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, staying power and positioning matter
Punty read: This is a slow tempo race where the best-equipped horse turns it into a sprint when the field finally comes back together. Coal River (No.1) has the ideal setup to stalk and then pounce, and Simply Deep (No.3) is the exact sort to be there at the finish because she can handle tempo changes. The Longest Yard (No.2) gives you the threat if the tempo stays slow and he gets an uninterrupted run into the straight. Kireina Marubrah (No.4) is the outside pace presence danger, but she needs the gaps.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)
1. Coal River (No.1) — $2.77 / $1.20
Bet $12.00 Win, return $33.24
Prob 29.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.08x
Why Slow pace means you can save ground and still hit the line hard, and barrier 4 in the map world is a lovely spot.
2. Simply Deep (No.3) — $2.59 / $1.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 29.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.01x
Why She's a serious player, just the place price doesn't give you much cushion.
3. The Longest Yard (No.2) — $4.30 / $1.50
Bet $7.50 Place, return $11.25
Prob 24.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.40x
Why If the field stays slow, she can roll forward into the sweet spot and be close enough to cash.
Roughie: Who Can It Be Now (No.5) — $14.75 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.9% | Place: 18.4% | Value: 0.77x
Why Needs a lane miracle and a leader flatten, otherwise she's fighting for air.
SEQUENCE LANES
EARLY QUADDIE (R1–R4)
Smart: 3,8,4 / 13,11,7,8 / 3,1,2,7 / 3,2,6,5 (192 combos x $0.26 = $48.96) -- 26% flexi
Punty's take: Two open legs inside chaos makes it a spicy entertainment quad, not a sit-and-relax banker.
QUADDIE (R5–R8)
Smart: 3,2,6,4 / 3,5,8,6 / 5,1,8,13 / 1,3,2 (192 combos x $0.34 = $64.80) -- 34% flexi
Punty's take: R6 and R7 are where the width happens, R5 and R8 are steadier but you still need luck with trips.
BIG 6 (R3–R8)
Smart: 2 / 3 / 2 / 3 / 5 / 1 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2.00) -- 200% flexi
Punty's take: Big 6 is pure spine stuff, lovely if the obvious scripts land, brutal if one leg wobbles.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Synthetic lane discipline matters early
On this track, the leaders can get away with murder when they're able to stack the field, because once synthetic gets strung out, you rarely get a clean late swoop.
2 - Place value is hiding in "second run, clear lane" types
Look for horses that got interference last start or wide running excuses, they're often more honest when the field pattern gives them room.
3 - The market drifts are telling you who the trip risk actually is
When prices slide out on the day, it usually means someone is expecting a messy run or a positional squeeze, and you can use that to avoid dead ends.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Alright sickos, go get Bruny Boy rolling, then keep your eyes locked on The Real Man in Race 6 because he's the type to make a simple race look unfair. If Coal River pounces like he's got somewhere better to be, you'll feel vindicated, even if you're a flog at losing. Gamble Responsibly.
