Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Kalgoorlie, head to https://punty.ai/tips/kalgoorlie-2026-07-26
Rightio Loose Units, Kalgoorlie on a Soft 5 where the leaders can get away with murder, and the ones that sit just off speed can pick up the pieces like they're stealing from a fruit shop. The rail's true, the tempo's got enough bite to string them out, and the track is basically telling you, 'commit or get cooked'. I've built today like a gym session, short sprints for the early lanes, then a heavier set for the Quaddie and Big 6.
Big spine: this card loves horses that get into their rhythm early, and it punishes the ones stuck searching for room. That means our Big 3 are straight up, proper race-fit types, and the Multi is built to be clean across different races, not some cooked roulette wheel.
Punty's take: watch Race 1 and Race 2 for the "map does the work" stories. In Race 1, Lord Momo is the one who looks like he can stalk and get clear. In Race 2, Eightyseven Lad is your genuine pace lever, and Peanut Butter is the type that can snag a place when the hot run turns into a slog. Then Race 3 and Race 4 are where the middle distance just turns into a chess match, Soft 5 giving the ball to those who handle it and don't panic.
What it means for you: if you're playing tight, stick to the Big 3 + Multi spine and then treat the rest of the races like a buffet, take your top three, then sprinkle one roughie that actually fits the race shape. If you try to force in some longshot that's fighting the tempo and needing a miracle, you'll end up donating cash like it's customer service.
Now let's get stuck into it, race by race, no bullshit.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Kalgoorlie, 1400m-1760m card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 5 (expected to play Soft, slightly favouring on-pace runners who can hold rhythm)
Weather: Mostly sunny, 7°C, watch for a niggly-cold feel underfoot, gusts up top (watch for skippy early pace)
Early lane guess: Early Quaddie looks tight, then it opens up with later legs
Tempo profile: Mostly moderate to slow, with races that can still turn genuine if they get clear
Jockeys to follow:
Rocky Cheung(a2/50kg): gets horses into the right spots, keeps them balanced
Jason Li(a3/49kg): wins ugly when he has to, but does the job when asked
Ms Tash Faithfull: patient hands, good at timing in Soft conditions
Stables to respect:
P J Fernie (around 18 runners): puts them in the race, gear changes and intent usually line up
Brett Drury (around 6 runners): when they bring one back ready, it shows in the way it attacks the line
P D Tapper (around 12 runners): understands Kalgoorlie patterns, especially from midfield
Punty's take: This meeting's got that Kalgoorlie vibe where the track plays honest, but your luck runs on a short fuse. Soft 5 means the leaders can be brave early, but once the kick starts, you want a horse with a clear line, not a contestant in a demolition derby.
Race 1 is basically a "get positioned, get clear" job. Race 2 has a real pace picture, Eightyseven Lad is the one to anchor your brain. Race 3, it's Slow Pace and 1760m, so the killers are the ones who can travel without burning matches. Race 4 at 1600m keeps it similar, but the Soft 5 adds bite to those who can hold form through the slog.
Then the back end, Race 7 is a proper chaos handicap where you go wide on the field logic, and Race 8 is where you want a horse that can actually finish off when the pack starts thinning.
What it means for you: Don't overthink the obvious lanes. For early picks, the on-pace types and midfield stalkers are your safety rails. For value, you target the roughies that still match the track tempo, not the ones that need to run through traffic and summon a miracle at the 200m.
I like betting with shape today. It's Kalgoorlie, the track's not forgiving, so your bets need to be built around what they can do, not what you hope they can do.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
1 - Lord Momo (Race 1, No.3) — $2.20
Why Maps to sit handy, then get clear in a race that isn't going nuclear.
2 - Eightyseven Lad (Race 2, No.1) — $1.83
Why Real pace lever at 1100m, if he jumps and holds, he drags the field into his rhythm.
3 - God's Grin (Race 3, No.3) — $2.42
Why Slow tempo 1760m fits him, and he has the right profile to keep punching late on Soft.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~11 = ~$110 collect
Race 1 – Regal Engineering Mdn
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Mad Spitfire the early click, midfield has to find a lane
Punty read: This is a "position is currency" race. You can practically hear them thumping early. Lord Momo looks set to stalk the right part of the track, and if he gets a clear run he's there to grab. Mad Spitfire is on pace and market's fiddling around him for a reason, but Soft 5 can make those leaders work harder than they think. Prince Of Bondi can loom if they bunch up late, but it's Lord Momo's story to lose.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.50 pool)
1. Lord Momo (No.3) — $2.20 / $1.15
Bet $7.50 Win, return $16.50
Prob 27.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.81x
Why Stalks well, and the tempo isn't screaming, just do the job once there's daylight.
2. Mad Spitfire (No.2) — $3.65 / $1.50
Bet $8.50 Place, return $12.75
Prob 25.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.93x
Why On-pace, still dangerous late, and those interference excuses don't scream "done" to me.
3. Acoustic Bubbles (No.7) — $5.10 / $1.72
Bet $6.50 Place, return $11.18
Prob 17.2% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 0.76x
Why Backmarkers can suit Soft 5 if they're not stuck, and this one has the profile to run past tired ones.
Roughie: Mahler's Melody (No.10) — $14.00 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.8% | Place: 17.9% | Value: 0.70x
Why If the race falls apart, he can run on, but he's the backup, not the main course.
Race 2 – Encore Monitoring Mdn
Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, leaders Eightyseven Lad and Joyhouse Rock pressurising early
Punty read: This race is about who controls the first 400m and doesn't lose the plot at the turn. Eightyseven Lad is your anchor because the speed is there and the gear upgrade work makes sense for a sprinter. Peanut Butter's place bet is the play because a sprint on Soft 5 can turn into a "who's still got hold" contest, and she's the type to slot in and steam late. The rest are mainly trying to find the perfect trip, which is fun, but you don't pay rent with fun.
Top 3 + Roughie ($23.50 pool)
1. Eightyseven Lad (No.1) — $1.83 / $1.14
Bet $16.00 Win, return $29.28
Prob 39.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.99x
Why If he jumps and sets the tempo, he gives you the race shape you want.
2. Peanut Butter (No.2) — $3.50 / $1.57
Bet $7.50 Place, return $11.78
Prob 18.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.50x
Why Value city for a place, and Soft 5 at 1100m suits a runner that can keep finding when others hit the wall.
3. Our Enchantress (No.9) — $10.80 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.8% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 0.44x
Why She can run on for a look, but her place probability is too thin to build a proper bet on.
Roughie: Shimari (No.6) — $16.25 / $3.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.3% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.81x
Why If the race collapses around the leaders she can swoop, but today she's insurance, not investment.
Race 3 – Hydramech (Bm64+)
Race type: Handicap, 1760m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, on-pace pressure without sprinting the legs into mush
Punty read: 1760m at slow tempo is where the smart ones stay composed. God's Grin gets the rail-less dream scenario, he can sit close enough and strike when it matters. Ideally and Jayashree are the "if there's a tempo change" dangers. Soft 5 at this trip can make the turn of foot different, so Mystic Wisdom only pops if the race opens up early, otherwise she's trying to get home off a grind.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)
1. God's Grin (No.3) — $2.42 / $1.13
Bet $5.00 Win, return $12.10
Prob 32.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.05x
Why He's right in the pocket for a slow 1760m, and he should keep rolling through the Soft.
2. Ideally (No.5) — $3.80 / $1.40
Bet $10.00 Place, return $14.00
Prob 20.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.02x
Why The class profile and trip fit says he can be in the fight late, even if he's not first in.
3. Jayashree (No.4) — $3.80 / $1.40
Bet $4.50 Place, return $6.30
Prob 17.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.86x
Why Another that can be competitive if the pace stays controlled and the Soft doesn't upset rhythm.
Roughie: Mystical Wisdom (No.6) — $10.30 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.7% | Place: 26.8% | Value: 0.77x
Why Needs a clearer run late, and from the back the race has to go her way.
Race 4 – Challenge Drilling Hcp (C2)
Race type: Handicap, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, midfield chess, the right jockey timing gets paid
Punty read: This is built for Graceful Lass and Myzoom as the "get there, don't panic" types. Slow tempo means you can't be too eager too early, and the Soft 5 makes it a grind, so pick the ones who look like they'll still have something at the 300m. Myzoom is live but this race leans hard to Graceful Lass as the main plank. Batista is a value toss for trifecta dreams, but for now he's a place-or-bust plot.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Graceful Lass (No.6) — $5.60 / $2.15
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $29.40 (wins) / $11.29 (places)
Prob 22.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.70x
Why The Soft and the slower tempo suit, and she looks like she can finish off without needing everything to land.
2. Myzoom (No.1) — $3.05 / $1.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.2% | Place: 51.9% | Value: 0.88x
Why He's a genuine include, but the value is already covered by the EW structure.
3. Batista (No.3) — $5.35 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 51.9% | Value: 0.67x
Why Too much has to go right from here, place probability is under the line.
Roughie: Gold Enigma (No.5) — $11.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 46.3% | Value: 1.38x
Why Has the legs for a run if the race opens up, but he's not getting the main stake.
Race 5 – NJ Industries (Bm58+)
Race type: Handicap, 1100m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, sprint pressure, Queen Of Hawks is a pace factor
Punty read: This is where you want to be smart with your money. Door Buster is on pace and could absolutely light them up, Queen Of Hawks is the one to watch for that perfect stalk-and-stick trip, and Dreamers Never Die is the place get. Science Degree can lead but you don't want to be too far back in a 1100m with a hot tempo unless you've got a weapon. Soft 5 at speed makes it chaotic, so we play the levers.
Top 3 + Roughie ($25.00 pool)
1. Door Buster (No.7) — $3.80 / $1.65
Bet $14.00 Win, return $53.20
Prob 29.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.54x
Why He attacks the race early and doesn't look like he's going to hand it back quickly on Soft.
2. Queen Of Hawks (No.3) — $5.60 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.51x
Why Too tight on the saver band, still a monster threat though if you're watching the tote.
3. Dreamers Never Die (No.2) — $3.90 / $1.75
Bet $11.00 Place, return $19.25
Prob 12.5% | Place: 59.9% | Value: 0.66x
Why Pads on, races close enough, and at 1100m even if it doesn't win, it can still bank a cheque.
Roughie: Vomo Island (No.5) — $11.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.3% | Place: 25.2% | Value: 0.64x
Why Needs everything to fall just right, place is possible but winning is the mountain.
Race 6 – Goldfields Variety (Bm70+)
Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, lots of on-pace chances and they'll be sweating early
Punty read: Treble Maker is a live wire, Cleanemup gets a spot to keep grinding, and Playing Games is a handy inclusion if the speed doesn't collapse. This race is about who holds station under pressure, not who dreams of a clean run. Prawns Eleven is the roughie because he's got the track and tempo box ticked for a place run.
Top 3 + Roughie ($20.00 pool)
1. Treble Maker (No.12) — $2.87 / $1.45
Bet $8.00 Win, return $22.96
Prob 23.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.91x
Why Tackles the pace pressure best, and his presence makes the race simpler for everyone else.
2. Cleanemup (No.8) — $4.50 / $1.80
Bet $7.50 Place, return $13.50
Prob 18.3% | Place: 55.8% | Value: 1.12x
Why Value on place, and Soft plus genuine speed usually helps a grinder that can keep kicking.
3. Playing Games (No.7) — $4.40 / $1.75
Bet $4.50 Place, return $7.88
Prob 14.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.88x
Why If they race too fast early, he's the sort that keeps coming for a slice late.
Roughie: Prawns Eleven (No.1) — $10.30 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.28x
Why Not a guaranteed winner, but he can earn a check if the speed turns into a battle.
Race 7 – Terra Drilling Hcp (C2)
Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, but the field depth is what makes it chaos
Punty read: This is an open handicap with pace but plenty of runners that can get there and then get cooked. Morf is the one I want as the anchor because he has the on-pace map and the right profile to keep his position. Dancewithme is a danger, Silent Amarda is the wobble chance on value, and Alebrije is more of a "if the track favours the stalkers" type.
Top 3 + Roughie ($25.00 pool)
1. Morf (No.1) — $5.10 / $2.00
Bet $20.50 Each Way ($10.25W + $10.25P), return $52.27 (wins) / $20.50 (places)
Prob 17.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.40x
Why He's got the race map and he can sit close enough to make it nasty for the rest.
2. Dancewithme (No.2) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.75x
Why He's live, but we're not doubling the same risk twice.
3. Silent Amarda (No.5) — $7.50 / $2.50
Bet $4.50 Place, return $11.25
Prob 8.4% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.97x
Why Place bet makes sense in chaos, and if they sprint too early she'll be motoring late.
Roughie: Alebrije (No.4) — $9.15 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.69x
Why Needs the right run and a tempo that collapses a bit, then he can sneak a top spot.
Race 8 – The Animal Hospital (Bm58+)
Race type: Handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, but this is where Soft 5 starts demanding manners
Punty read: Friar's Legacy is the one who can keep the momentum through the 1400m and not get bullied by the pack. Five Down is the classic "don't leave him alone late" type, and Across Generations is the value place chance because she's got the tempo fit to be in it when the race starts stringing out. Gondrinkin is the roughie because his win case is there, but he's still a touch more dependent on luck than the top three.
Top 3 + Roughie ($21.00 pool)
1. Friar's Legacy (No.3) — $2.57 / $1.37
Bet $6.50 Win, return $16.70
Prob 33.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.20x
Why Pace profile fits, and at 1400m on Soft 5, the ones that can sustain usually cash.
2. Five Down (No.7) — $3.60 / $1.62
Bet $9.00 Place, return $14.58
Prob 11.5% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.58x
Why Place is the right angle, he can grab a cheque if others get bogged in the middle.
3. Across Generations (No.8) — $8.50 / $2.75
Bet $5.50 Place, return $15.12
Prob 9.8% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.18x
Why Better than his win odds suggest for a place, and Soft 5 suits runners that can keep finding.
Roughie: Gondrinkin (No.10) — $11.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.7% | Place: 47.1% | Value: 1.65x
Why He can win if he gets the clean run, but he's not the main load today.
SEQUENCE LANES
EARLY QUADDIE (R1–R4)
Smart: 3,2,7 / 1,2,9 / 3,4,5,6 / 6,1,3,5 (144 combos x $0.14 = $20.00) -- 14% flexi
Punty's take: Two tight legs keep it respectable, but R4 is the open one, so it's a fun, swingy early-quaddie lane.
QUADDIE (R5–R8)
Smart: 7,3,2 / 12,7,8,1 / 1,4,2,3 / 3,7,8,10 (192 combos x $0.10 = $20.00) -- 10% flexi
Punty's take: Chaos hits in the first and last legs, mid legs are narrower, so it's balanced by design but still chase-your-tail if pace plays weird.
BIG 6 (R3–R8)
Smart: 3 / 6 / 7 / 12 / 1 / 3 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2.00) -- 200% flexi
Punty's take: It's basically a straight-six on the three strongest winners, so if they land, you get the party, if not, you learn quickly why single-combo Big 6s are for sickos.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Soft 5 punishes "wandering" leaders
When they chase early position without settling, Soft 5 makes them pay for it late. The winners that hold rhythm are the ones that look after themselves.
2 - Place is the cheat code in the sprint chaos
Races with hot speed and a short turn often have "big finish, no win" profiles. That's why Race 5 and Race 8 are built around place value.
3 - If you see blinkers go on, watch the jump and the tempo
Gear first-timers on this track are usually about getting them switched on early, not about magic later. That's why the on-pace types keep featuring.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Alright legends, I'm backing the races that look like they'll play to their map, not the ones where you need five things to go right at once. If you're having a crack, be brave in the right places, and if you're not, at least watch Race 6, it's the kind that makes grown adults grin like kids on footy night. Gamble Responsibly.
