Rightio Loose Units, Devonport's serving up synthetic roulette again, rail True, and the rain's doing the conga line. If you're the sort of degenerate that loves a race with real pace and a couple of curveballs, today's got you by the hoodie.

2mm of wet since 9am and showers easing, so the track should sit there in that "sticky enough to notice, not heavy enough to panic" zone. Translation: front runners can still kick on, but anyone sitting too far back is gonna be chasing like they've missed the end of the movie by five minutes. Early speed matters more than usual at this 1150 to 1350 range, because once the leader gets a breather on synthetic, the race can get spread into a procession.

My spine for the day is simple, Chef's Kiss in Race 1, Geegees Missile in Race 3, and Stardarmus in Race 5. Then we stitch it into a multi because why would we do anything sensible. The rest of the card is where you either get paid, or you learn a valuable lesson about holding your nerve through the wet bits.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Synthetic, 2-5-8 R? (1350-1650m)m card
Rail: True
Official going: Synthetic (Rain easing, expected to play like a lively synthetic, not a bog)
Weather: Showers easing, 9°C, wind NW 16km/h, rain risk hanging around (watch for pockets of sting)
Early lane guess: Inner to middle lanes should save ground early, especially around the 1009 to 1150 races
Tempo profile: Mixed to slightly controlled early, but the hot sprints can still sting off the corner
Jockeys to follow:
Luke P Dempsey: Gets horses into the right spot and usually brings them home, especially when the gate isn't a gift.
Craig Newitt: Quiet confidence type, if there's speed on, he's typically on the right ones.
Liana Wood: When she lands on the right map, she can make it look effortless late.
Stables to respect:
Adam Trinder (4 runners): When he brings them up through the grades, they run with purpose.
Barry Campbell (3 runners): Loves his leaders and loves a well-timed step up in class.
J K Blacker (3 runners): Gets the horses positioned, and that matters a heap on a synthetic with rail True.

Punty's take:

This meeting is basically "speed first, excuses later". With the rain around, synthetic can tighten up for those who get to stalk, but leaders still get their chance if they ping clean and don't get stuck three wide chasing their own tail. You'll see it race by race, the ones in range turning for home are the ones who look like they still want it at the line.

Race 1 is a classic maiden shape where the market favourite is a genuine guide. Chef's Kiss has blinkers again and maps like it can control the race flow without needing luck. Then Race 3 is the real tempo test, Geegees Missile looks like the "I'm here to run through you" type, and Hartman is the danger if the leaders keep it honest.

After that, Race 5 is the benchmark where we lean into the better performing middling sort, Stardarmus has the profile of a horse that lands in the sweet spot and then keeps answering. We're not chasing heaps of chaos today, we're building a spine, then letting the decent value roughies fill the gaps.

What it means for you:

Your game plan is chase the speed, but don't marry the speed. In the sprints, backing the front runner is fine, just make sure there's a path to the finish. That means, for your win bets, look for horses drawn to be in the first four ranks early, or runners with the best combination of positioning and gear.

For value, I'm happy to take a couple of roughies where the market either underreacts or where gear changes actually give the horse a better look. But I'm not going wide for the sake of it, because sequences have been rough lately and I want your wallet to survive the opening weekend of winter drizzle.

Place bets are where I'm most relaxed across this kind of track, because even if it gets a bit weird in the straight, you still want horses that can finish top three or four. So if you're only grabbing a few bets, lock your feet in the better races, and let the rest be the entertainment.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Chef's Kiss (Race 1, No.1) — $1.83
Why Blinkers again, maps midfield but with the best tactical toolbox to hit the line first.

2 - Geegees Missile (Race 3, No.6) — $2.02
Why On pace with that "charge and don't apologise" style, this one looks built to finish in front.

3 - Stardarmus (Race 5, No.3) — $2.75
Why Natural runner who gets into the race rhythm early and can keep running through late on synthetic.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~10 = ~$101.70 collect

Race 1 – gottluvtassieracing Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden Plate, 1350m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, advantage anyone who can stalk without doing too much

Punty read:

This is a maiden where the tempo being slow can either save you, or absolutely cook you. With it slow, horses that get into the right position without burning will have a real shot, and Chef's Kiss is set up for that with blinkers again. Unfiltered looks like the kind of price you want to be aboard for the finish, but at some point you've gotta trust that the favourite finds the lane. Gee Gees Brother is the on-pace type who can hold a spot if the race stays tame, and that gives him a chance to run into top three even if he doesn't win.

Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. Chef's Kiss (No.1) — $1.83 / $1.05
Bet $15.00 Win, return $27.45
Prob 41.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.22x
Why Slow tempo suits a stalking profile, blinkers back, and this looks like the horse most likely to be "in the contest" at the finish.

2. Unfiltered (No.7) — $3.45 / $1.32
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.65x
Why If you're being picky, the place pricing is tight and you're basically paying for nerves rather than value.

3. Gee Gees Brother (No.3) — $8.50 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.4% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.46x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Roughie: Jock Rock (No.8) — $10.50 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.9% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.35x
Why A real chance — but at $2.45 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

Race 2 – Kevin Sharkie Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden Plate, 1150m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, leaders can hang on if they find clear running

Punty read:

This one's a sprint where barrier matters, because 1150 doesn't give you much time to improvise. Equivaster looks the speed and class combo, sitting on pace from barrier 1. Harrata is the sort who can sneak into the first few and keep going, and Deer Power is the type who can get into the placing frame if the race isn't too brutal early. Flying Further is the "only need one wobble" play for the wider gear set.

Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)
1. Equivaster (No.4) — $3.95 / $1.65
Bet $20.00 Win, return $79.00
Prob 23.7% | Place: 63.6% | Value: 1.17x
Why On pace early with a good barrier to do it, and this looks like the one that can keep building momentum instead of chasing.

2. Harrata (No.1) — $4.30 / $1.70
Bet $4.00 Place, return $6.80
Prob 18.8% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.15x
Why Comes with a realistic placing chance if things tighten up mid-race, especially with the smooth synthetic footing.

3. Deer Power (No.8) — $4.00 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 51.3% | Value: 0.86x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Roughie: Flying Further (No.10) — $10.50 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 1.10x
Why His path is to get rolling with the right timing and nick a late spot if the pace fractures, but he's not the priority today.

Race 3 – Save The Greyhounds (Bm76)

Race type: Benchmark 76, 1150m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, leaders in play, straight still matters

Punty read:

This is where the pace and the finish collide. Geegees Missile is on pace and drawn to make the race look like it belongs to him, and at this distance that's everything. Hartman is the natural benchmark danger, if the leaders keep being brave and nobody gets too strong into the corner, Hartman can pinch it. Cherokee Dancer and Furneaux both have the credentials to be around the money, but the real question is whether the race sets up for a front-to-middle runner to finish on.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Geegees Missile (No.6) — $2.02 / $1.30
Bet $15.00 Win, return $30.30
Prob 35.9% | Place: 64.7% | Value: 0.92x
Why Best style match for a synthetic sprint, on pace and capable of taking the race right to the line.

2. Hartman (No.4) — $3.45 / $1.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 29.0% | Place: 60.0% | Value: 1.07x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Cherokee Dancer (No.2) — $5.95 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.03x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.

Roughie: Bold Instinct (No.5) — $22.00 / $5.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.0% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.84x
Why Needs everything to go his way, pace collapse into a chaos finish. He's a big price for a reason.

Race 4 – Goodstone Group Hcp (C1)

Race type: Class 1 Handicap, 1009m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, short sprint pressure cooker

Punty read:

1009 on synthetic is like trying to park a ute in a phone booth, speed decides a lot and barrier decides even more. Houlihan is the "get there early and keep running" type from a leader map. Geegeeschaser is the one I like for a place shot that can upgrade, he's also on the speed and the value is sitting nicely. Just Plain Nuts has already won at the track and at distance, so if he gets clear early, he can absolutely punch through. Party Day is another leader, but with these tight sprint margins, I'd rather my money on the two that look more likely to get the right trip.

Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. Houlihan (No.2) — $3.25 / $1.55
Bet $14.00 Win, return $45.50
Prob 20.1% | Place: 59.1% | Value: 0.88x
Why Hot pace helps those who land up on it, and Houlihan is the type that can keep the pressure on without fading.

2. Geegeeschaser (No.7) — $4.80 / $1.85
Bet ⊘ Abandoned · bet voided
Prob 18.4% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.19x
Why Place leverage in a short sprint, on the speed with a good chance to keep his position into the last 100.

3. Just Plain Nuts (No.1) — $5.10 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.7% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.16x
Why He's dangerous, but the price band on the placing side isn't giving me the comfort blanket.

Roughie: Super Snippy (No.6) — $11.50 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.99x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Race 5 – Stables At Spreyton (Bm60)

Race type: Benchmark 60, 1350m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, distance gives time to build but not breathe forever

Punty read:

This is the race where you want the horse that keeps its gears for the last third of the journey. Stardarmus is the standout play in this setup, midfield but with the ability to use the pace rather than fight it. Wolf Junior is right in the mix too, his profile screams "I'm in it every time". Kireina Marubrah is the third runner that can sneak into the placings if the race stays honest, and Only Old Once is a rougher who could pop up if the pace quickens and then collapses late.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Stardarmus (No.3) — $2.75 / $1.55
Bet $15.00 Win, return $41.25
Prob 34.2% | Place: 60.8% | Value: 1.23x
Why Genuine pace helps him find rhythm, and he's built to finish strongly without needing a miracle.

2. Wolf Junior (No.4) — $2.32 / $1.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 31.6% | Place: 63.7% | Value: 0.88x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Kireina Marubrah (No.5) — $5.10 / $2.35
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 0.95x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.

Roughie: Only Old Once (No.2) — $9.60 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 19.2% | Value: 1.07x
Why Needs the late collapse and then the inside lane or perfect timing, otherwise he's chasing too much.

Race 6 – Ladbrokes Mega Multi Hcp

Race type: Open Handicap, 1350m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, tricky because the whole field can stay within striking distance

Punty read:

This is a "who's the best at grinding" race. Simply Deep looks like he'll be prominent enough to make a run, and Tuskegee also sits on that sweet spot where he can run on and not get shuffled out. The Longest Yard is the value kicker that could go bang late if the pace doesn't explode. Captain Cam and Nicco The Greek are backmarker types, and in a moderate tempo they can get stung by the midpack.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Simply Deep (No.7) — $2.82 / $1.60
Bet $12.00 Win, return $33.84
Prob 22.9% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.84x
Why Best blend of position and staying power for a moderate pace handicap, he looks the most likely to keep going through the line.

2. Tuskegee (No.6) — $4.05 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.9% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.09x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. The Longest Yard (No.5) — $5.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 36.7% | Value: 1.29x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.

Roughie: Captain Cam (No.1) — $11.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.5% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.92x
Why Backmarker needs a specific race shape, and if the midpack sharpens, he gets stuck sprinting in traffic.

Race 7 – Vale Nigel Schuuring Hcp (C1)

Race type: Class 1 Handicap, 1350m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, makes your life either easy or hard depending on where you settle

Punty read:

Slow pace races are where the "come from everywhere" myths start getting believed. Don't do that. You still want a horse with enough tactical zip to sit close enough when the sprint to the line starts. Colonel Bogey is the right profile to take advantage, and City Wok is a live contender if he can keep running without getting bogged behind. Little El has the upside in a place frame, and Nunkeri is the value runner that can sneak into the finish if the race compresses.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Colonel Bogey (No.2) — $2.70 / $1.25
Bet $10.00 Win, return $27.00
Prob 25.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.97x
Why Slow pace suits a sit-and-straightened sprint move, and Colonel Bogey looks like the one who can control the finishing burst.

2. City Wok (No.1) — $2.38 / $1.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.1% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.65x
Why A real chance — but at $1.20 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Little El (No.3) — $5.35 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 49.3% | Value: 1.25x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Roughie: Say It With Words (No.11) — $18.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.4% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 1.11x
Why She needs the race to compress and give her clear air late, but if it happens, she's the kind that can fly past a tired group.

Race 8 – DRC Season Opener (Bm64)

Race type: Benchmark 64, 1150m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, on pace riders can cash if there's no chaos

Punty read:

This is the sort of sprint where early speed and clean running are the whole story. The Real Man has the map to be right there, and he's got the track pattern that makes you trust the movement. Ozonica is the market heartthrob for a reason, but for us, this is about value plus position. Wild Nights is the one who can make it interesting late, especially if the pace tempo does what wet synthetic sometimes does, speeds up, then invites a late burst.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. The Real Man (No.1) — $3.10 / $1.30
Bet $10.50 Win, return $32.55
Prob 31.7% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.31x
Why Best combination of track fit and on-pacing story, and he should be in range when the tempo turns.

2. Ozonica (No.2) — $2.00 / $1.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.71x
Why A real chance — but at $1.10 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Wild Nights (No.5) — $6.50 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.4% | Place: 57.9% | Value: 1.43x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Roughie: Gee Gees Me Boy (No.4) — $10.10 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.7% | Place: 24.6% | Value: 0.90x
Why He can be around for a slice, but his win path is narrower in a 1150 sprint with a couple of obvious in-range horses.

Race 9 – Meridian Horse Transport Hcp (C3)

Race type: Class 3 Handicap, 1650m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, middle distance tactics and patience matter

Punty read:

1650 at synthetic is where the best trackers keep their momentum. Coastal Strike is the value play for a reason, but Azonto is the type to keep picking up ground and staying involved. Respite sits there as a genuine place option, and Al Maximus is the "if things wobble" runner. I'm leaning into Coastal Strike as the value route for where the pace shape might help him run his race, with Azonto as the anchor.

Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. Azonto (No.1) — $2.70 / $1.32
Bet $14.00 Win, return $37.80
Prob 26.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.95x
Why Proven to run on and stay in the contest at this sort of trip, barrier 9 runners are fine but this one looks the cleanest anchor.

2. Coastal Strike (No.2) — $4.00 / $1.60
Bet $5.00 Place, return $8.00
Prob 22.6% | Place: 59.6% | Value: 1.22x
Why This is the value place lever, he should land closer to the speed, and 1650 gives him enough time to hit peak late.

3. Respite (No.3) — $3.70 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.9% | Place: 61.6% | Value: 0.85x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Roughie: Al Maximus (No.4) — $9.20 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.00x
Why Needs pace to settle and then for him to find clear ground, roughie points possible but not a priority today.

SEQUENCE LANES

Early Quaddie (R2–R5)

Smart: 4,1,10 / 6,4,2 / 2,7,6,4 / 3,2,4 (108 combos x $0.32 = $35.00) -- 32% flexi
One-line commentary: R2 and R4 are the wide chaos legs, R3 and R5 are tighter, so the hit needs at least one medium-priced winner to show up.

Punty's take: Two open legs but we're still leaning into pace shaped races. This is "hope for a beauty", not "guaranteed retirement money".

Quaddie (R6–R9)

Smart: 7,1,6 / 2,7,5 / 1,4,5 / 1,2,4,6 (108 combos x $0.32 = $35.00) -- 32% flexi
One-line commentary: Three open races means near-misses are likely, but the smart leg choices keep the top end honest.

Punty's take: This is the "big payout, big heartbreak" quad. If the finishing burst in R7 and R9 lands your way, it can still pay like a bastard.

Big 6 (R4–R9)

Smart: 2 / 3 / 7 / 2 / 1 / 1 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2.00) -- 200% flexi
One-line commentary: Skinny ticket, only works if the obvious leaders do the obvious thing. Entertainment level: moderate.

Punty's take: It's a tight bet on the cleanest narratives. You're either a legend or a loosy.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - The synthetic sprint trap is real
When tempo is hot at 1009, the horse that can hold position without moving into the wind is the one that wins the lane battle.

2 - Place leverage is the whole game in the tight fields
On this card, rank 2 types are more reliable to hit the top three than the long-priced rank 3 "hope" horses, especially when rain is lurking.

3 - Wet synthetic bias, but not the way you think
This isn't a full bog track, so the leaders still get a say. If you bet like it's Heavy 10, you'll donate money to the old mate in the next chair.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

Alright legends, this is one of those meetings where the right race story pays back. I'm backing my spine, then letting a couple of smart value angles breathe. If the rain stays tame enough for the speed to keep rolling, we're in business.

Gamble Responsibly.
