Punty's Punts
Race type: Handicap, 1350m
Map & tempo: Slow pace with backmarkers disadvantaged; on-pace types get first crack at the finish
Punty read: This is a track-position race in a trench coat. With the pace genuinely slow, the backmarkers don't have the same "free hit" because the wind up the straight makes it tougher to keep reloading late. No.2 Apex Predator has the on-pace profile and the market's basically waving him through the gate. Then No.1 High Authority is your "fitter and ready to pop" danger, especially if he gets cleaner luck than last time. No.4 Mean King is the short-price place snare if you want to hold your breath for a run into the top 3.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.50 pool)
1. Apex Predator (No.2) — $2.67 / $1.14 🏆 WINNER
Bet $6.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$10.86
Prob 37.7% | Place: 95.0% | Value: 1.11x
Why On-pace and already proven in a tough scenario, if he handles the early pressure, he's hard to peg late.
2. High Authority (No.1) — $7.25 / $2.00 🏆 6TH
Bet $10.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$10.00
Prob 16.1% | Place: 67.0% | Value: 1.29x
Why Movement says value's real, and he's the sort that improves when the run opens up (especially with fitter legs).
3. Mean King (No.4) — $3.65 / $1.25 🏆 4TH
Bet $3.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$3.00
Prob 14.2% | Place: 67.0% | Value: 0.57x
Why He's live for a top-three role on the on-paper map, but don't expect him to carry the whole joint.
Roughie: Native Son (No.5) — $22.50 / $3.50 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.5% | Place: 33.4% | Value: 0.88x
Why Backmarker win is tough in slow-tempo races, he needs everything to line up at once.
Race type: Handicap, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so timing + midfield control matters; wind helps keep on-pace honest runners in play
Punty read: This is a middle-distance hand-grenade: a lot of midfielders can run on, but the race shape decides who gets first taste. No.4 Automne Tree is the obvious "if he breaks on terms" horse. No.12 Krumac is the classic grinder who can hang around for a cheque, doesn't need to win, just needs a little racing room. No.8 Dracena is the value play in a race where one of the fav types can get pinned and the market can overreact.
Top 3 + Roughie ($17.00 pool)
1. Automne Tree (No.4) — $3.33 / $1.37 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.00 Each Way ($5.00W + $5.00P) — ✓ Won, net +$13.65
Prob 22.9% | Place: 95.0% | Value: 0.84x
Why Blinkers off first time can sharpen him up, on a day where pace stays manageable, that can be the difference.
2. Krumac (No.12) — $3.47 / $1.45 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.9% | Place: 65.2% | Value: 0.76x
Why He's got the place profile, but we're not paying extra for a saver when the ticket's already built.
3. Dracena (No.8) — $9.00 / $2.35 🏆 6TH
Bet $5.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$5.50
Prob 14.9% | Place: 65.0% | Value: 1.48x
Why Strong value, if the pace holds steady, he can mow down the middle and grab the line.
Roughie: Northern Decree (No.1) — $17.25 / $3.60 🏆 8TH
Bet $1.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$1.50
Prob 5.1% | Place: 33.3% | Value: 0.97x
Why He's the kind of runner who can bounce if the interference excuse is the whole story.
Race type: Benchmark 80, 2000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace; 2000m means positioning + one clean kick beats pure chaos
Punty read: This one's a "follow the map and pray for daylight" situation. No.3 Cavalry Man looks like he'll be close enough to use his strength when the race winds up. No.9 Captain Maverick is the on-pace danger, he's the type to stay in range and punch through if the leaders don't sprint themselves silly. No.11 Chillaxing is the controlled runner who can pick up pieces at the finish.
Top 3 + Roughie ($9.50 pool)
1. Cavalry Man (No.3) — $4.30 / $1.65 🏆 10TH
Bet $5.50 Each Way ($2.75W + $2.75P) — ✗ Lost, net -$5.50
Prob 22.3% | Place: 65.0% | Value: 1.06x
Why He's got the midfield style for 2000m and can win if the race sets up without smothering his run.
2. Captain Maverick (No.9) — $6.00 / $2.15 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.0% | Place: 63.2% | Value: 0.93x
Why He's live to place, but the win value isn't there enough to justify extra outlay.
3. Chillaxing (No.11) — $5.70 / $1.82 🏆 WINNER
Bet $4.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$5.60
Prob 14.0% | Place: 63.1% | Value: 0.88x
Why If they go a moderate speed, this bloke can find the right lane and keep trucking.
Roughie: Prince Levi (No.1) — $9.00 / $2.55 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 63.1% | Value: 1.48x
Why He's in the mix but needs a clean run; at 2000m, one awkward moment ruins the story.
Race type: Benchmark 78, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo; watch for on-pace types to hold advantage into the last bend
Punty read: This is a chaos handicap dressed up as something orderly. No.5 Falcon Of Malta is your "if he's back on 1600m" play, market and form lean in his direction. No.4 Mississippi Prince is the other on-pace threat, and he's had interference issues that can explain why he hasn't done it more often. No.14 Natoya is your place gamble where value can show up if the race turns into a competitive sprint for positions.
Top 3 + Roughie ($30.00 pool)
1. Falcon Of Malta (No.5) — $8.55 / $2.70 🏆 4TH
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 13.5% | Place: 63.0% | Value: 1.32x
Why He's a "back later if needed" type, value exists, but the ticket's prioritised.
2. Mississippi Prince (No.4) — $8.20 / $2.65 🏆 10TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 63.0% | Value: 1.26x
Why Place odds aren't paying the right way for a saver, so we respect the shape and stay disciplined.
3. Natoya (No.14) — $3.65 / $1.62 🏆 6TH
Bet $15.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 13.5% | Place: 63.0% | Value: 0.56x
Why When the race is wide-open, you want one of the more affordable place anchors.
Roughie: Jemoma Alpilage (No.12) — $20.00 / $3.80 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.7% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 1.07x
Why Backmarker wins are hard at 1600m, he needs everything to fall perfectly.
Race type: Class 3, 1110m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace but it's a short-course scramble; on-pacers get the advantage early and keep it honest
Punty read: This is a speed map battleground. At 1110m, if you're not there to win, you're there to be in the way. No.3 Larado is the class of the race from the right kind of preparation profile. No.4 Let'sfacethemusic is the natural "press and stick" runner, though he's short enough that we're not forcing it as the primary bet. No.1 Braveheart is your consistent place threat. Then No.7 Ramp It Up is the roughie that can absolutely pinch it if the leaders get shuffled.
Top 3 + Roughie ($16.00 pool)
1. Larado (No.3) — $3.60 / $1.30 🏆 3RD
Bet $9.50 Each Way ($4.75W + $4.75P) — Cashed, net -$1.90
Prob 24.0% | Place: 95.0% | Value: 0.97x
Why Fresh but not fragile, he's got the on-pacer profile to be around the mark when the race tightens.
2. Let'sfacethemusic (No.4) — $2.92 / $1.25 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 24.0% | Place: 66.7% | Value: 0.78x
Why Too short to justify the extra when we've already committed to the EW lane with Larado.
3. Braveheart (No.1) — $5.10 / $1.65 🏆 2ND
Bet $6.50 Place — ✓ Won, net +$4.22
Prob 16.6% | Place: 66.7% | Value: 0.94x
Why He's the reliable "runs into the frame" type, especially when the field gets bunched early.
Roughie: Ramp It Up (No.7) — $10.75 / $2.65 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 65.1% | Value: 1.40x
Why He's got the run-on risk if the pace quickens, just not enough room on the ticket to fully endorse.
Race type: Class 6, 1110m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace; on-pace runners get the perfect "turn-to-stay" advantage
Punty read: This is a front-running machine if it all clicks early. No.5 Bossed Up looks like the one that turns the race into his own workout, short course, genuine tempo, and he's built to keep showing up. No.3 Pre Eminence is a live grinder, and No.11 Zoubaby is the value-style threat who can improve with the right gap. The rest are mostly hunting for breaks, and with the wind and short distance, those breaks need to be early.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Bossed Up (No.5) — $2.20 / $1.25 🏆 3RD
Bet $12.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$12.00
Prob 40.8% | Place: 67.0% | Value: 1.00x
Why Genuine pace + lead role = textbook Doomben map. If he gets to peak action at the right time, he wins.
2. Pre Eminence (No.3) — $3.95 / $1.70 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.7% | Place: 65.0% | Value: 0.91x
Why Great option, but the bet structure is locked to the standout winner only.
3. Zoubaby (No.11) — $7.30 / $2.75 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.0% | Place: 43.0% | Value: 1.23x
Why He's got value, but not the right place on this ticket.
Roughie: Tiger Tie (No.4) — $12.25 / $3.50 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 34.6% | Value: 1.27x
Why Winning from outside the winning script is hard at 1110m unless the race collapses early.
Race type: Handicap, 1350m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo; on-pace has a real edge in the straight but midfield runners can still hit a gap
Punty read: This looks like a "pick a lane and commit" race. No.1 Larrikin Rogue is the one we want to base around, he's trialled like he means it and his gear tweak (nose band off first time) can tighten his focus. No.10 Trafalgar Square is a sneaky danger if the race turns into a positioning war, while No.5 Hellova Nature has the value place profile if she keeps coming late without getting stuck. With Doomben's wind, late-runners need clean daylight, no getting boxed.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.50 pool)
1. Larrikin Rogue (No.1) — $3.60 / $1.60 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — Cashed, net -$2.25
Prob 22.3% | Place: 65.4% | Value: 0.89x
Why He's been in the right sort of races, and the trial + gear change suggests he's ready to be in the finish.
2. Trafalgar Square (No.10) — $3.58 / $1.57 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 66.6% | Value: 0.56x
Why He's too short for this structure, place value isn't paying enough for extra risk.
3. Hellova Nature (No.5) — $9.40 / $2.75 🏆 WINNER
Bet $7.50 Place — ✓ Won, net +$13.12
Prob 14.0% | Place: 65.1% | Value: 1.46x
Why Value in the place, if the on-pace group does its job early, she'll be running on with a real kick.
Roughie: Prince Of Sorts (No.6) — $12.00 / $3.30 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.6% | Place: 63.1% | Value: 1.53x
Why He's got claims, but the ticket is built to protect the place-value core.
Race type: Handicap, 1350m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace; on-pace midfielders can dominate if the wind steals the finish from closers
Punty read: This is an open handicap with shape, and the shape screams that the race isn't going to be a slow jog. No.1 Navy Pilot looks like the benchmark for getting a sit close enough to launch. No.3 Smexy is the value place profile, if the race breaks, she can be the one steaming home with clear running. No.2 Call Da Vinci is more of a "likely there" runner than a win hero, but he can absolutely grab a top-three finish if the leaders get tangled. No.9 Portofino is the roughie for value if the race tempo helps his run-on style.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.50 pool)
1. Navy Pilot (No.1) — $5.25 / $1.95 🏆 WINNER
Bet $14.50 Each Way ($7.25W + $7.25P) — ✓ Won, net +$39.51
Prob 15.9% | Place: 66.7% | Value: 1.01x
Why He's got the right tactical profile for 1350m, close enough to race, not stuck chasing.
2. Smexy (No.3) — $7.40 / $2.50 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 65.3% | Value: 1.24x
Why The place value is there, but we're already covering the EW lane with Navy Pilot.
3. Call Da Vinci (No.2) — $5.75 / $2.25 🏆 4TH
Bet $8.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$8.00
Prob 13.9% | Place: 65.2% | Value: 0.96x
Why Rates highly for a top-three finish, he's the sort that keeps finding the line without needing a miracle.
Roughie: Portofino (No.9) — $9.60 / $3.10 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.3% | Place: 58.1% | Value: 1.08x
Why He's built to run on, but you don't want to stretch the ticket when this race can bunch up late.
Race type: OPEN Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace; 1200m needs speed within striking distance, leaders get their shot at the line
Punty read: This is a classic 1200m "who wants it first" race. No.9 Town Crier is the on-track leader profile, and he's the one most likely to give you a clean ride into the business end. No.5 Restonica and No.12 Caspernova are your middle-distance types who can handle a fast finish and still sprint clear in the last 100m. No.6 Give Giggles is the value roughie in case the race turns into a pace battle and the right horse lands the final burst.
Top 3 + Roughie ($25.00 pool)
1. Town Crier (No.9) — $4.20 / $1.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $20.50 Each Way ($10.25W + $10.25P) — ✗ Lost, net -$20.50
Prob 19.1% | Place: 66.9% | Value: 0.93x
Why He's the leader you back when the pace isn't suicidal, he's likely to still be there when the others start looking around.
2. Restonica (No.5) — $4.75 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 66.9% | Value: 0.96x
Why Place chances look solid, but the structure is centred around Town Crier's win.
3. Caspernova (No.12) — $4.65 / $1.70 🏆 2ND
Bet $4.50 Place — Cashed, net -$0.68
Prob 16.9% | Place: 66.9% | Value: 0.91x
Why Solid place play, if the leaders get worn down, he's the one who can keep showing up.
Roughie: Give Giggles (No.6) — $10.00 / $2.55 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 59.5% | Value: 1.10x
Why He's got the value place profile, but we're not betting win/out wider than we need to.
Sequence legs are the picks-engine's authoritative choice, rendered from the persisted ticket.

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Doomben's on a Good 4 with the rail +0.5m and a mild wind that'll help the on-pace crews keep doing their thing down the straight. It's the sort of day where if you're stuck in the "hope and cope" section of the grandstand, the track's gonna remind you you're a clown. So we're going to bet like we've got mates on the inside, sharp, opportunistic, and with a Big 3 spine that's actually built for racing, not vibes.
You can feel it already: this card's got multiple races where the tempo doesn't go totally stupid, but the breeze up the straight makes it harder for late swoopers to keep stacking ground to the line. Translation: get close early, don't get trapped, and don't overcomplicate it when the leaders look like they've got enough left in the tank.
Now, let's set the day's table: Big 3 + Multi (win confidence) plus lanes for the Quaddie chaos-merchants. And yeah, there'll be a roughie in every race… because we like entertainment, and we're degenerates.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Good 4, 9 races card
Rail: +0.5m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play On-pace-forward)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 19°C, light wind SSE (watch for harder grind for closers down the straight)
Early lane guess: Tight-ish early, then widen as fields spread in the middle stages
Tempo profile: Mostly steady-to-genuine, with the on-pace horses advantaged by that light wind up the straight
Jockeys to follow:
Jai Williams, keeps landing them from handy runs and seems to time his bursts well
Ryan Maloney, often gets the job done when the map suits and the market sharpens
Jace McMurray, strong "position first" operator; if there's cover and a gap, he finds it
Stables to respect:
Chris & Corey Munce (7 runners), lots of live chances across grades; can lift winners when the race shape helps
T J Gollan (3 runners), persistent placers and a habit of pressing the advantage when asked
R L Heathcote (2 runners), figures prominently in open handicap types; watch for repeat performances
Punty's take:
Doomben today feels like a "don't be a hero, just be effective" sort of meeting. With the wind light but the straight having that little extra bite, horses that can hold position without getting dragged wide should get the best of the finishing sprint. That means when a horse profiles as on-pace with a draw that isn't a headache, we don't try to outsmart it, we cash the opportunity and move on.
The market's also telling little stories. You'll see a heap of firming around the shorter-priced horses, and when that happens at Doomben it usually means the track map is aligning with what punters want. So for our Big 3 backbone, we're siding with horses that look set to do the hard work earlier: Bossed Up in Race 6, Apex Predator in Race 1, and Larado in Race 5, the kind of runners you can actually trust to be in the contest when the bell goes.
What it means for you:
Bet like the track is real (because it is). For the early races, especially Race 1 and Race 2, you want to be aggressive but not reckless: take the on-pace class and don't reach for the galaxy. Then as we hit the middle of the card, the Quaddie lanes will get spicy, some legs are tight, some are wide-open, and that's where your bankroll either grows up… or gets grounded.
So here's the game plan: use the Big 3 for your "main character energy", then build each race around the Top 3 selections and that roughie that's most likely to sneak in if the pace breaks a certain way. Quaddie lanes are fun and dangerous, so keep the mindset: entertainment-first, structure-second, chaos-third, unless you're built for it (you are, otherwise you wouldn't be reading me).
