Rightio Legends, Goulburn on a Soft 7, rail True, and everyone's going to be driving like they're chasing a mate down the highway with their lights off. Slow-ish tempo on paper, but this track always finds a way to turn races into a full-contact sport from the 600m mark onward. If you're the type who overthinks it, go watch a documentary. If you're here for winners, keep reading, I've done the homework and I've got opinions.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Goulburn, 1,200-1,600m card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 5 (updated from Soft 7) (expected to play Rain-Soaked, Hold-Up Friendly, plus plenty of on-pace running)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 3°C, humidity 100%, wind 0km/h N (watch for footing drag and last-600m "who's still got legs" time)
Early lane guess: Inside to mid early, outside runs clean only when they get room

Tempo profile: Slow pace, so the speed doesn't get burnt off early, but it still turns into a sprint when the pack meets the soft spots.
Jockeys to follow:
Dylan Gibbons: gets first crack at the run when the maps look favourable and he's on the right horses for it
Chad Schofield: attacks at the right moment, especially when they're not getting stuck behind the first wall
Tyler Schiller: gives you that steady, "I'll be there" ride, which matters on a Soft 7
Stables to respect:
C J Waller (0 runners): best read is confidence plus gear and shape, when he's got one ready, it usually goes
J C Coyle (0 runners): when the horse settles close, this stable has teeth in the finish
G Ryan & S Alexiou (0 runners): solid when they've got a shape for the conditions, they tend to get runners into the right spots

Punty's take:

This meeting's basically a slow-pancake base with a nasty finishing topping. Soft 7 at Goulburn means the first turn isn't where you win it, it's where you line up your move. So I'm looking for horses that either map close, or have a clean path to unwind late. If they're backmarker and trapped for room, they'll get rinsed by the ones who get to breathe.

Race 1 is the "go on, just win" storyline with No.1 Gaultier. Market's got the fav locked in, and the form reads like they travelled and just missed the finish. I'm not trying to be clever there, I'm trying to be correct. Then Race 2 and Race 5 are where the punting gets fun, because those are the spots where the on-pace types still get a crack but the value can hide in the right place bet.

What it means for you:

My approach is simple. Be aggressive where the race story is clean, and protect where the track can mess with the run home. So: load up the Big 3 spine, then keep the rest of the ticket disciplined. If you want roughies, do it in the "pace collapse or room appears" lanes, not in the ones where everyone's stuck in a conga line.

Also, keep an eye on market support and drifters. When something firms without an obvious excuse, it usually means the horse is doing what it's meant to do. When something drifts hard, I treat it like it might be a case of "cool now, questionable later". You don't need to panic, you just need to be picky with your cash.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Gaultier (Race 1, No.1) — $1.64
Why Fav profile suits the Soft 7, should get a run and take the next step after a bold resumption.

2 - Daylite (Race 2, No.7) — $2.02
Why Speed map puts her where she can control, and her track positioning is the whole game at 1200m.

3 - Winning Emotions (Race 5, No.6) — $3.45
Why A classier strike threat in a benchmark race, and the market support says she's not just turning up for the parade.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~11 = ~$110 collect

Race 1 – GPG Hotel Showcase Super Mdn Hcp

Race type: MAIDEN, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so midpack should get first dibs, but the winner usually comes from the ones not getting blocked

Punty read:

Gaultier (No.1) is the one with the cleanest narrative. When the fav comes back and runs boldly behind an all-the-way type, it usually means they've got the engine. Soft 7 at 1400m punishes wide, and No.1 sits in that sweet spot where you can avoid trouble and still make a move before they bunch up late.

Van Hoven (No.2) is the "don't laugh, it's got pedigree" play. The map isn't screaming, but this is where a trial win plus a solid prep plan can crack a maiden. Sanchuelo (No.7) looks the kind of horse that might be short of the line turn, then keeps finding once the race steadies.

Top 3 + Roughie ($22.50 pool)

1. Gaultier (No.1) — $1.64 / $1.08
Bet $15.00 Win, return $24.60
Prob 38.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.30x
Why Bold resumption behind a real winner, Soft 7 should suit, and the pace setup means he can swing at the right time.

2. Van Hoven (No.2) — $5.60 / $1.75
Bet $7.50 Place, return $13.12
Prob 16.0% | Place: 66.2% | Value: 1.20x
Why Trial form stacks up, has class upside, and place is perfect when the race is congested in the middle.

3. Sanchuelo (No.7) — $6.10 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.3% | Place: 64.1% | Value: 1.25x
Why If the tempo stays slow, she can sneak into the money by getting a soft run and accelerating late.

Roughie: Highway Robbery (No.4) — $15.25 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.7% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 1.20x
Why Long shot path is simple, if the speed collapses and space opens late, he can hit the line hard.

Race 2 – Country Boosted Showcase Mdn Plate

Race type: MAIDEN, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so the front half matters more than usual, and the on-pace runners get paid

Punty read:

This is Daylite's race to lose. She's got the map to sit close enough to apply pressure, and at 1200m on Soft 7, those who can keep momentum are gold. Passing Through is the danger with blinkers off first time, that's often code for "let him find his own rhythm". Hampton Style is there to fill a spot if things get messy, but I'm not paying full price for mess.

Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)

1. Daylite (No.7) — $2.02 / $1.12
Bet $20.00 Win, return $40.40
Prob 34.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.30x
Why Best early speed profile, likely lands a handy spot, and Soft 7 doesn't faze the horses that can keep their action together.

2. Passing Through (No.6) — $4.30 / $1.57
Bet $4.00 Place, return $6.28
Prob 18.6% | Place: 60.8% | Value: 0.64x
Why Blinkers off can sharpen him up, and when it's slow, place dividends come from those who find a lane and hold it.

3. Hampton Style (No.4) — $4.30 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.0% | Place: 63.6% | Value: 0.87x
Why Has the right run style if he breaks smart, but the value is better elsewhere today.

Roughie: Harlem Tickle (No.5) — $10.80 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.5% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.66x
Why Roughie only wins if the race splits and the right horse gets away from the crowd, but it can happen on Soft.

Race 3 – Guy Walter Hcp (C3)

Race type: CLASS 3, 1300m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, so midfield runners who can stalk and strike are the sweet spot

Punty read:

Oui Flourish (No.8) is the one I want, because blinkers off first time and she's got enough class to sharpen. On a Soft 7, speed helps, but what matters is who can transfer from cruising to sprint without getting bogged. Purple Rose and Peace Bird are in that on-pace mix that can hold spots, but I'm not betting against Oui's ability to find a better rhythm with the new gear.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Oui Flourish (No.8) — $3.95 / $1.95
Bet $12.00 Win, return $47.40
Prob 22.1% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.09x
Why Blinkers off can switch her on, she's coming in with the right kind of platform and should get a clean run home.

2. Purple Rose (No.3) — $4.10 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.9% | Place: 36.6% | Value: 0.97x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Peace Bird (No.2) — $4.70 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.95x
Why Strong maiden win into Class success, but I'd rather play it in the trifecta mindset than as the main bet.

Roughie: Piperita (No.1) — $9.15 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 17.3% | Value: 0.81x
Why Path is slow-start bingo, if she turns it into ground late with a bit of gap, she can sneak into the frame.

Race 4 – Integrated Building Group Showcase Hcp (C2)

Race type: CLASS 2, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow tempo, so the bigger question is who can keep their position and not get swallowed by Soft ground

Punty read:

Costabit (No.4) is your each-way anchor. This is the kind of 1600m where being within striking distance, not stranded midpack, pays. Guy's Last Prize (No.3) has that "slowly away, then quicken" vibe and he's doing it in winning style earlier this prep, so he's dangerous if he sees daylight.

Brazen Crime (No.2) as the roughie place makes sense. Big odds on a runner with pace help and the right rider can absolutely salute in a Soft 7 if the leaders start dropping off and the race opens up.

Top 3 + Roughie ($14.00 pool)
1. Costabit (No.4) — $4.50 / $1.72
Bet $12.00 Each Way ($6.00W + $6.00P), return $27.00 (wins) / $10.32 (places)
Prob 19.4% | Place: 59.1% | Value: 1.13x
Why Perfect "stay in it" profile at 1600m, and on Soft 7 the horses that can keep rolling tend to cash.

2. Guy's Last Prize (No.3) — $4.65 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.5% | Place: 58.2% | Value: 1.05x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Simply Nutbush (No.8) — $5.10 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.9% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.86x
Why Can hit the minor money if the race goes long and slow, but this ticket's already balanced.

Roughie: Brazen Crime (No.2) — $9.40 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 45.3% | Value: 1.51x
Why If the race turns into a scramble late, she's got enough upside to pick up a lane and sneak into the top three.

Race 5 – Kilpatrick Metal Recyclers Showcase (Bm66)

Race type: BENCHMARK 66, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so you need speed either in front or sitting close, Soft 7 adds friction

Punty read:

Winning Emotions (No.6) is the cash register today. In these benchmark sprints, the winner is usually the horse that can maintain balance through the soft part and hit the line without falling apart. She has that profile, and the market thinks she's the one with the right gear and intent.

Dubbo Boy (No.9) is value in the frame, he can stalk and then go after the leaders get a bit sticky. Spread The Love (No.5) is a live runner but he's the kind of horse that needs everything to go right for exact spot. Stormbringer is the roughy-style chaos type, but he's priced like a headache.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Winning Emotions (No.6) — $3.45 / $1.55
Bet $15.00 Win, return $51.75
Prob 26.6% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.19x
Why The on-pace angle on Soft 7 is everything at 1200m, and she's built to keep going when others punch through then fade.

2. Dubbo Boy (No.9) — $6.75 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.0% | Place: 48.7% | Value: 1.22x
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Spread The Love (No.5) — $5.10 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.0% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.86x
Why Can run a big race if he starts clean, but I prefer to swing at the stronger top two storylines.

Roughie: Stormbringer (No.4) — $5.60 / $1.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.90x
Why If he overcomes the usual bad luck and lands on the right rails, he's a live threat, but the ticket's already properly stacked.

Race 6 – Kirk's Bridge Farm Graeme Spackman Country Magic Showcase (Bm66)

Race type: BENCHMARK 66, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so stalking and timing the turn matter more than pure early speed

Punty read:

Midnight Affair (No.9) is the each-way play. This is a 1600m where if you're still travelling and can hold position through the softer patch, you'll be there for the finish. Win The Day and Think I Do both bring their own lane to the party, but the ticket is built around the one with the cleanest each-way case and place safety.

Devine Outcast is the roughie if you want a value flyer, but remember Soft 7 punishes wide, and at this level, you need the trip to be kind.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Midnight Affair (No.9) — $5.10 / $2.00
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $26.77 (wins) / $10.50 (places)
Prob 16.3% | Place: 61.2% | Value: 1.11x
Why Midfield to close, then keep grinding, each-way on Soft 7 is about not getting pinned in the bog.

2. Win The Day (No.12) — $6.20 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 53.7% | Value: 1.15x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Think I Do (No.3) — $6.75 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.3% | Place: 50.9% | Value: 1.11x
Why Has the form to run on, just not enough edge for a saver in this exact place window.

Roughie: Devine Outcast (No.8) — $10.80 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.9% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.57x
Why Roughie path is traffic clears and she can hit the line, but she's more "one of those" than "stand up and win" today.

Race 7 – Goulburn Australia 'Big Dance Eligibility' Goulburn Cup

Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace on paper, but Soft 7 can turn genuine into chaotic if they go too hard too early

Punty read:

This is where the cup-style race turns into a battlefield. Cross Tasman (No.14) is the each-way choice because this is the kind of 1400m where you get a genuine tempo, but the Soft ground means the ones who keep their balance through the straight are the ones that keep their form.

Cold Brew is more price and timing, Declichy Boulevard is live with market interest, and Welcometotheshow is the other runner you keep in your notebook for trifectas if the gaps appear.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Cross Tasman (No.14) — $3.95 / $1.72
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $29.62 (wins) / $12.90 (places)
Prob 16.1% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 0.88x
Why Front-to-midfield pace helps his chances, and he's the kind of runner who holds on through Soft 1400m.

2. Cold Brew (No.13) — $4.30 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.2% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.73x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Declichy Boulevard (No.5) — $7.75 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.20x
Why Fresh enough and has the ability to win, but the place odds band wasn't the right spot for a saver.

Roughie: Knobelas (No.7) — $9.75 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 28.5% | Value: 1.00x
Why Roughie wins if the race really settles down and he can travel without getting stuck, then pounce late.

Race 8 – Electel Services Showcase Hcp (C1)

Race type: CLASS 1, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so the best chance is being close enough to switch on and not be stuck wide in Soft

Punty read:

Brucey (No.6) is my each-way play of the day. Soft 7 makes staying power valuable, and he looks built to keep rolling instead of hitting a wall. Glenn's Legacy (No.8) is next cab off the rank for a place shot, Overshadow (No.3) is more a keep-safe runner for trifectas if the race breaks weird.

Hard Jakka is the roughie, he's got the map to be midfield and might get a crack if the leaders start to drift and panic.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Brucey (No.6) — $6.20 / $2.25
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $32.55 (wins) / $11.81 (places)
Prob 19.0% | Place: 47.3% | Value: 1.54x
Why Pace map gives him a solid trip, and on a Soft 7, that balance factor is what keeps him in the race late.

2. Glenn's Legacy (No.8) — $5.60 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.04x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Overshadow (No.3) — $6.20 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.07x
Why Progressive type, but the value band is a touch off today.

Roughie: Hard Jakka (No.7) — $12.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.16x
Why Needs the right run and the right timing, but midfield on Soft 1400m can be deadly if they're not sprinting off the corner.

SEQUENCE LANES

EARLY QUADDIE (R1–R4)

Smart: 1,2,7 / 7,4,6,5 / 8,3,2 / 4,3,8,2 (144 combos x $0.35 = $50.00) -- 35% flexi
Punty's take: Two tight legs early, then R3 is a tidy trio, and R4 is wide enough to need your seatbelt on.

QUADDIE (R5–R8)

Smart: 6,9,5,4 / 9,12,3,8 / 14,13,5,7 / 8,6,3,7 (256 combos x $0.25 = $65.00) -- 25% flexi
Punty's take: Big values are possible, but four open races means you're buying entertainment with a side of hope.

BIG 6 (R3–R8)

Smart: 8 / 4 / 6 / 9 / 14 / 6 (1 combos x $2.00 = $2.00) -- 200% flexi
Punty's take: This is a straight-up "needle in a haystack" style flyer. One miss and you're cooked, but if it lands it'll feel like winning lotto without buying a ticket.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Soft 7 means being held up costs you twice
If a runner is already awkward early, the Soft ground magnifies it, because they use extra energy trying to change levels and keep action.

2 - Each-way lanes are loaded when pace is genuine
In races like the cup run, you want the horse that can travel in the middle, because the straight sprint on Soft punishes those who get shuffled out late.

3 - Watch the gear moves, they're telling you intent
Blinkers off or first-time blinkers in these maidens and Class 3 races often means the trainer wants a cleaner rhythm, that can be the difference between "in the race" and "hit the line".

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

Alright, Degenerates, go chase the races that make sense and leave the chaos for your ego. If your ticket goes up in smoke, at least it'll be because you tried to pick the winner, not because you guessed with vibes. Gamble Responsibly.
