Amigos Provincial Mdn Plate
1450m · MAIDEN · 13:10
✓ WON +$30 Final

Race type: Maiden Plate, 1450m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so settle-and-spring types can steal it late
Punty read: This one's a genuine maiden chess match. Classic Two (No.1) has sectionals that say he's capable, but he's still searching for the full "switch on" moment. Creator Of World (No.2) is the market anchor for a reason, he's got the early intent and the winkers off first time can sharpen him into the braver part of the run. The danger is Neferusobek (No.10), because she's got the profile to run on with teeth, even if she's not the flashiest early.

Roughie angle? The Hard Road (No.5) is the sort that can pop into a top few if the speed collapses, or if the right trio of runners gets held up and makes room. But I'm mainly playing the place leverage here, because maiden 1450m on Good 4 is where "nearly" wins you money.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Creator Of World (No.2) — $3.30 / $1.57 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$29.90
Prob 22.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.66x
Why Winkers off first time, plus he's built to sit in the race early and keep going, even with no guaranteed sprint payoff.

2. Neferusobek (No.10) — $5.00 / $1.95 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.35x
Why A real chance — but at $1.95 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Gold Earth (No.3) — $4.40 / $1.80 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.31x
Why Price says value if he can get a rhythm, and the way the tempo looks, running on is the whole game.

Roughie: The Hard Road (No.5) — $19.00 / $3.60 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.5% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 1.31x
Why If the speed collapses, this is the type that gets a crack at the top end, otherwise he's just fighting for scraps.

✓ WON +$35 Final

Race type: Maiden Plate, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, so the leaders make their own destiny
Punty read: This is a race where you want a horse that's happy being involved early. Unhinged (No.6) is the obvious on-paper bully, and the betting support backing him in tells you they believe he's the real deal. I Am Dynasty (No.8) can lift, but he needs the right run and the right breathing space. Cloudy Scout (No.15) is the sort that can sneak into the placings if the leaders tire, but with a genuine tempo, you've got to respect how long some of these horses can keep pressing.

I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, the "don't get greedy" play is to trust Unhinged and maybe keep your other legs as exhale insurance.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Unhinged (No.6) — $3.70 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$35.10
Prob 46.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.20x
Why He's map-built for this tempo, and with the way the race is projected to run, he should keep breathing down their neck.

2. I Am Dynasty (No.8) — $5.00 / $1.52 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 1.10x

3. Cloudy Scout (No.15) — $6.50 / $2.40 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.01x
Why She can run a cheeky race late, but you're relying on a specific pace collapse.

Roughie: Fly The Wind (No.2) — $34.00 / $3.70 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.7% | Place: 22.5% | Value: 0.61x
Why Roughie path is there only if the speed tunnels and the backmarkers suddenly find superpowers.

✓ WON +$38 Final

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow tempo, so smart positioning turns into money
Punty read: Shorter trip, slower early, which usually means the "best horse in the right spot" gets to show through. Hello Liz (No.9) is the one I want front and centre in this story, because her profile says she can keep doing work late. Fiaba (No.8) is the other standout, and with market support for the favourite, you still have to respect that she can be the one powering home if others get trapped.

Belle Chanteuse (No.3) is the roughie flavour for the upset if she bangs on with her blinkers and makes it a real street fight. But I'm not going overboard. This looks like a finish-first race.

Top 3 + Roughie ($25.00 pool)

1. Hello Liz (No.9) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$50.00
Prob 29.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why Slow pace means the sprint doesn't start too early, and she profiles to arrive at the end with energy.

2. Fiaba (No.8) — $4.40 / $1.85 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.92x
Why A real chance — but at $1.85 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. So Insightful (No.11) — $8.50 / $1.65 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.3% | Place: 54.6% | Value: 1.07x
Why Gear changes and the short track suit a late grab, just feels like a place-lane more than a win-lane today.

Roughie: Belle Chanteuse (No.3) — $14.00 / $2.45 🏆 4TH
Bet $12.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$12.50
Prob 7.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.74x
Why If the field bunches and the lane opens late, she's the sort that can run over the top.

✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Maiden Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow tempo, so the front runners get longer run at the line
Punty read: Vatican (No.3) is the clear "story winner" here. He's got the blinkers first time, and when a short-priced horse gets gear like that, it usually means the stable expects a sharper burst and more control. Angel Hair (No.1) is the main threat if she holds her rhythm, and Laconic Livo (No.7) is the running-on type that can pinch a place if the favourites get stressed.

The big trick with 1200m maidens is runners start chopping you up, and the gaps arrive in the last 150m. That's why I'm trusting the horse that looks like he'll do the work first and not surrender it.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Vatican (No.3) — $2.00 / $1.17 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 52.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.13x
Why Blinkers first time, map fit to keep him in the fight from go to whoa, and at this price you just back the control.

Prob 12.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.60x

✗ MISS -$13 Final

Race type: Benchmark 64, 1450m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so the on-pacers who can still kick matter most
Punty read: This is Pierata's Gem's kind of race, tempo wise. On-pace, time fastest, and he's the one the betting respects, which makes him hard to ignore. Donatello is the favourite for a reason too, but at his price I'd rather let him do the work while I focus on the value route with Pierata's Gem. Varuni is your "if they soften" type, and Bright Promise is the roughie if the race turns into a running contest in the last 300m.

This one feels like a "show up at the right point in the straight" race. You want your runners not wandering in the middle distances like they're browsing the shops.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Pierata's Gem (No.2) — $3.10 / $1.25 🏆 8TH
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 33.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.32x
Why He gets the right trip setup, stays involved early, and each-way suits a race where the leaders don't get cooked too fast.

2. Donatello (No.6) — $1.82 / $1.09 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 30.7% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.71x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Varuni (No.3) — $6.50 / $1.82 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.4% | Place: 46.7% | Value: 1.19x
Why The value is there, but the structure says keep the cash on Pierata's Gem.

Roughie: Bright Promise (No.9) — $15.00 / $3.00 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.35x
Why Roughie path is a long-lane sprint late, and he needs everything to line up like a movie montage.

✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Benchmark 64, 2000m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so the real race is who lasts and who finds a lane
Punty read: Sonic Bender (No.2) is the win driver for me today, mainly because he can bring his business end late without needing to do suicidal work early. Powerful Prayer (No.6) is the value-ish threat, but I like him more for place leverage in a slow 2000m where staying power beats fancy footwork. My Greek God (No.10) has the late zip too, and Marsabit (No.9) is there if you want a roughie that might sneak into the finish if the field spreads and the backmarkers find a freeway.

It's one of those 2000s where the inside running in the final stages can decide everything. You want the horse that can angle in and not be bottled.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Sonic Bender (No.2) — $3.20 / $1.55 🏆 4TH
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 23.1% | Place: 56.7% | Value: 0.83x
Why Slow pace helps a closer, and he profiles to hit the line with momentum rather than hanging.

2. Powerful Prayer (No.6) — $6.00 / $2.20 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.31x
Why A real chance — but at $2.20 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. My Greek God (No.10) — $7.50 / $2.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.22x
Why If he finds clear galloping early in the straight, he can run into the money.

Roughie: Marsabit (No.9) — $11.00 / $2.85 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.1% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.25x
Why Roughie lives on the backmarker ladder, needs gaps and needs it to go the right way.

✓ WON +$22 Final

Race type: Benchmark 64, 1300m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, so the race is about who holds station
Punty read: Maidoff (No.2) is the main show. He maps like he's going to be in the right part of the track, and if the leaders go, he's got the engine to keep in the contest. Bang On Time (No.7) is the value pocket if the leaders tire, and Autumn Sky (No.6) is the runner who can lift late if he's not stuck in traffic.

Bold And Blazen (No.4) is the roughie spice, because at $9.50 with his profile, he can absolutely break hearts if the race turns into a speed duel.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.31 pool)

1. Maidoff (No.2) — $2.75 / $1.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.31 Win — ✓ Won, net +$21.54
Prob 32.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.86x
Why This looks built for him to stay involved and cash before the finish line turns into a lottery.

2. Bang On Time (No.7) — $4.80 / $1.85 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.9% | Place: 41.2% | Value: 1.09x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Autumn Sky (No.6) — $5.00 / $1.90 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.04x
Why Can run on strong, but he's more a "if" horse than the main plan.

Roughie: Bold And Blazen (No.4) — $9.50 / $2.85 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.9% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 1.52x

✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Benchmark 64, 1150m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, and momentum is king on the short run
Punty read: Centimetre (No.9) is the "speed on paper" horse, but Nymphadora (No.8) looks like the one with the better chance to keep chewing through the line. Dragon Blood (No.7) is right there too, with the race shape suiting his way of running. Los Padres is the backmarker danger if it gets messy, but this feels like it should be fought more in the middle and front half.

So the play here is simple: Dragon Blood (No.7) gets my win money. He's priced like a live shot and he's got enough tactical flexibility to land in the right spot.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)

1. Dragon Blood (No.7) — $4.40 / $1.70 🏆 2ND
Bet $10.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.00
Prob 20.6% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.03x

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Illawarra Grange on a Good 4 with the rail +2m at the 1600m to 400m mark, so everybody and their dog will be hunting the fence early, then pretending they always planned to back closers. Fine weather too, no wet-track excuse. This is one of those cards where the speed map matters, but value is hidden in the place lanes and the little gear switches that make a maiden suddenly grow a spine.

My best mates, the Big 3 spine today is Vatican in Race 4, Unhinged in Race 2, and Pierata's Gem in Race 5. Three different races, three different vibes, all with the style to hit first then keep going. If you're going to play a multi, play it like you mean it, with those exact horses, no swapping, no heroics, just clean legs.

And yeah, there's plenty of "watch closely" runners around the card, but this is a day for sticking to what the race shape is screaming. Slow to moderate tempos on sprints, short fields when it suits, and a heap of first-time gear. Translation, if a horse looks under-done in the market, it'll be because it's still learning, or because it's about to pop off like a bottle rocket when the gate opens.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Illawarra Grange, 1150m to 2000m card
Rail: +2m 1600m-400m, True Remainder
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play Fair and Fence-Friendly)
Weather: Fine (watch for zero rain chaos, races staying honest early)
Early lane guess: On-pace lanes, especially inside draws where they can hold a spot without getting blocked
Tempo profile: Mostly slow to moderate early, which means the run to the line is where the work gets done
Jockeys to follow:
Chad Schofield: He's riding like he knows where the trouble is going to be, and today suits that hustle.
James McDonald: When he's on a Waller-type or a classier improver, he usually makes it look easy.
Ashley Morgan: Can get a horse to the right spot, and at this venue that means everything.
Stables to respect:
C J Waller (5 runners): Getting them ready with intent, and he often targets the conditions like he set the track himself.
Brad Widdup (4 runners): When Widdup turns up with a maiden, they're usually sharper than the sectionals suggest in the warm-up.
Matthew Smith (3 runners): He does a good job with "not quite ready" types, then bingo, they run on.

Punty's take:

This card is all about clean positioning. With Good 4 and the rail parked out for a chunk of the trip, the "ballooning" run from the outside is real, but the smart money still wants cover, then a clear lane. In Race 1 it's a maiden where the pace isn't flying, so the horses that can settle and still clock time are your friends. In Race 2 it's a genuine tempo, and that's why Unhinged (No.6) looks like the kind of horse that just keeps coming, even when they try to squeeze him.

Then we swing to Race 4, the 1200m maiden handicap where Vatican (No.3) just looks like he's got the gears to run away with the script early and resist the late pressure. Race 5 is a benchmark where the two big names do the heavy lifting, and Pierata's Gem (No.2) is the one I want leading into the straight with options. Race 6 and Race 7 are where you can get cute, but today I'm not paying tuition. I'll still take my place leverage, because that's where your risk is softer and the margins are usually friendlier.

What it means for you:

Your strategy today is simple: be aggressive where the race shape supports it, and be picky where chaos usually lives. That means Race 2, Race 4, Race 5 are the "don't overthink it" zones. Unhinged in Race 2 should get the run, Vatican should control the middle portion, and Pierata's Gem should be in the finish of the race rather than the finish of the betting.

For the rest, I'm steering you into place plays and a single roughie flavour only when the value is there. The card has enough runners drifting and enough first-time gear that you can get a surprise, but don't let that turn into gambling sloppiness. Stick to the spine, fill where it's supposed to be filled, and if you're still keen after that, that's when you chuck in a saver place and call it a day.
