Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Ipswich, head to https://punty.ai/tips/ipswich-2026-19
Rightio Loose Units, Ipswich on a Soft 5 with the rail jammed out (+4m) and a bit of dampness floating about, meaning the track's either gonna hand you a hero story or a full-on disaster reel. Either way, I've done the homework, I've sharpened the teeth, and we're hunting value without getting cute.
This meeting feels like the sort where the leaders get tired and the "one out one back, hit the line" types start playing FIFA with the finish. Race 1 is all about whether No.1 Moscow Mule can simply do his job, Race 2 looks like a proper set-up for No.10 Raging Raider, and Race 3 has that classic Benchmark 70 shape, where the right runner in the right spot gets first run at the line.
Then we move into the Quaddie legs, and holy shit, this is where punters start drafting their mates into saying "nah he can't win". Fuck that, we're betting the ones that can, and we're taking our shots when the market's being a bit too confident.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Soft 5, 1100m-2170m card
Rail: +4m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (updated from Soft 5) (expected to play favourably for on-pacers and runners that can still sprint through the bog)
Weather: Possible shower, 15C, wet air, gusts around 9km/h S (watch for slippery patches early, then the track usually tightens up late)
Early lane guess: Wide stalkers should get options, then look for runners drawn inside 4-7 to travel and save ground
Tempo profile: Slow pace, genuine leaders, which means the "one run too far" types get exposed if they're spending early energy
Jockeys to follow:
Ben Thompson: In the mix early, and he rides like someone who actually wants to win, not just park on the leader's back and pray.
Adin Thompson: When he's on a runner that can sit closer, he makes it look easy through the line.
Mark Du Plessis: At Ipswich in soft conditions, he's good at timing and keeping them balanced in the carrying stage.
Stables to respect:
Corey & Kylie Geran (4 runners): They've got plenty of strings floating around the Quaddie races, and the market usually knows when something's live.
T J Gollan (3 runners): When they back a horse into the right race, it tends to show up in the finish, especially over sprint trips.
Annabel & Rob Archibald (1 runner): One of those outfits where their horse is either a genuine threat or you're staring at a completely pointless effort. The first-up stuff always has intent.
Punty's take:
Ipswich Soft 5 with the rail out (+4m) usually means you can get away with a bit of rail-saver tactics early, but once they start cranking in the last 300, the ground gets sticky and the finish becomes a weapons test. The race shapes we've got here scream "stay in touch, then hit the line with purpose".
My big picture for the day is simple. Race 1 is a "do the job" scenario for No.1 Moscow Mule, and I'm not overthinking it. Race 2 has a probable leader and a betting favourite that's too well placed to just get rolled by the chaos merchants. Race 3 is where we need to respect the Benchmark 70 guys that can get within range and keep going in soft.
Then the Quaddie range R4 to R7 is your money-making zone, but you still gotta choose your battles. Fracus and Buckeye are short enough that you can build the structure, and the middle legs are where you make your real decision about who's actually value on a wet track.
What it means for you:
If you're playing this like a sane person, the plan is to be aggressive in the short-priced lanes where the tempo and draw match. That means backing the clear lead-in winners on the big spine: Moscow Mule, Raging Raider, and San Gabriel.
If you're chasing value, your best "don't be a sucker" move is to look for a runner that gets the run of the race, especially on Soft 5 where held-up time costs more than people think. That's why I like the selection profiles that can either sit handy or swoop with cover, rather than the ones that are stuck trying to find daylight through dead ground.
And if you're building the Quaddie, don't treat it like a raffle. Use the sequence lanes, keep it tight where the shape is solid, and let the open legs breathe. This is how you end up with a ticket that's exciting, not delusional.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Moscow Mule (Race 1, No.1) — $1.64
Why Can cover the backmarkers from barrier 6 and the soft pace should let him keep rolling.
2 - Raging Raider (Race 2, No.10) — $1.97
Why Right profile for a slow-tempo maiden, likely to get first crack when the field strings out.
3 - San Gabriel (Race 3, No.5) — $3.25
Why On-pace shape over 2170m Benchmark 70, with the finish to pressure the front-runners.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~ $10 = ~ $100 collect
Race 1 – TAB Mdn Hcp (Ipswich 1680m)
Race type: Maiden, 1680m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, backmarkers need luck, but this rail-out Soft 5 still rewards the one who's got position early.
Punty read: This is a "who's got a believable path" race. No.1 Moscow Mule is the anchor, and he doesn't need to be a superhero, he just needs a clean run and to keep grinding. The danger is the on-pacers getting too confident and starting to fade early, because Soft 5 punishes sustained effort. If the race stays slow, the midfield will be fighting for room, and that's where a grinder like Moscow Mule picks up pieces.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. Moscow Mule (No.1) — $1.64 / $1.08
Bet $15.00 Win, return $24.60
Prob 51.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.19x
Why Market's backing him, the pace setup suits, and Soft 5 at 1680m is perfect for a horse who can sit in range and keep chewing.
2. Lottery Link (No.2) — $5.95 / $1.72
Bet $4.00 Place, return $6.88
Prob 12.1% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.63x
Why He's got market support coming in and the draw gives him a fair shot at getting into the finish, even if he's not winning.
3. Isla Delilah (No.3) — $6.25 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 55.6% | Value: 0.62x
Why She's on pace style and can take a run at it, but the value just isn't there enough to throw money at it.
Roughie: Chance De Lune (No.10) — $17.50 / $3.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.9% | Place: 21.4% | Value: 0.70x
Why If the interference luck goes his way and the pace finally lets backmarkers through late, he's the sort that can sneak a slice at a price.
Race 2 – Barrier Reef Pools Mdn Plate (Ipswich 1350m)
Race type: Maiden, 1350m
Map & tempo: Slow tempo, so the runners who can hold a spot and still sprint win most battles.
Punty read: This race looks built for No.10 Raging Raider. In these maidens on soft, slow pace races often become "position plus sprint", and he's positioned to get that. No.9 Pirouette Girl is the obvious challenger type, and No.6 Ted Lasso has the sort of gear combo that can take him from running along to actually finding the line. If the favourite jumps clean, it'll be hard to hold out the pressure.
Top 3 + Roughie ($22.00 pool)
1. Raging Raider (No.10) — $1.97 / $1.14
Bet $17.00 Win, return $33.49
Prob 41.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.06x
Why Slow pace and barrier 6 means he's not cooked early, he's there to pounce when the field staggers.
2. Pirouette Girl (No.9) — $3.07 / $1.75
Bet $5.00 Place, return $8.75
Prob 17.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.04x
Why She maps handy, and with Soft 5 helping consistent speed, she's got a real chance to run into the placings.
3. Ted Lasso (No.6) — $4.85 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.4% | Place: 67.1% | Value: 1.11x
Why Blinkers off and visors on is a "show me" move, but at this exact price, I'd rather keep the bankroll for the smarter place.
Roughie: Daybreak Warrior (No.1) — $14.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.4% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 1.07x
Why His roughie path is getting a soft run and sneaking into the top three if the tempo stays sticky and the finish collapses late.
Race 3 – Gordon's Gin (Bm70) (Ipswich 2170m)
Race type: Benchmark 70, 2170m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, so the on-pacers get first crack, backmarkers need something to go wrong.
Punty read: 2170m on Soft 5 with a genuine pace is the perfect setup for a horse who can sit in range and not panic. No.5 San Gabriel is the on-pace spine, and the distance means you don't get to coast for long. No.1 I Am The Empire looks like the type to keep on, but in slow-soft it's all about who keeps responding when the pressure piles on. This race can be decided by who has the best turn of foot after the 1000m mark.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. San Gabriel (No.5) — $3.25 / $1.40
Bet $10.00 Win, return $32.50
Prob 24.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.99x
Why He's built for this, sits on pace, and the long straight out at Ipswich suits runners who can maintain momentum.
2. I Am The Empire (No.1) — $3.90 / $1.55
Bet $5.00 Place, return $7.75
Prob 22.8% | Place: 58.1% | Value: 1.12x
Why If he controls the tempo, he'll be tough to run down, and the rail-out helps keep the track honest.
3. Demarcay (No.6) — $6.70 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.0% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.09x
Why I like his profile and he can press on, but the place band at this rank just isn't where the value sits.
Roughie: Whatjeudoin' (No.7) — $13.50 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.2% | Place: 19.2% | Value: 0.88x
Why Roughie chance is a pace collapse where midfield runners start snatching runs late, and he gets a clean shot at it.
Race 4 – Ray White Ipswich Mdn Hcp (Ipswich 1100m)
Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, but sprint races on Soft 5 are brutal on late effort. Save something for the straight.
Punty read: This is a sprint where the best chance is whoever can come off the bridle and still motor late. No.10 Fracus is the structural favourite, No.4 Veomas looks like the classic "gets close enough to be dangerous" type, and No.13 Major Hot is your pressure runner. With Soft 5, even a small slip in position can kill you, so I'm backing the ones that can hold their ground and keep going.
Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)
1. Fracus (No.10) — $2.72 / $1.40
Bet $20.00 Win, return $54.40
Prob 23.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.85x
Why Straight sprint at Ipswich, tongue tie on, and he's got the most practical path to hit the line without getting swallowed.
2. Veomas (No.4) — $4.35 / $1.90
Bet $4.00 Place, return $7.60
Prob 22.4% | Place: 65.3% | Value: 1.13x
Why He's priced to be competitive and has the right "midfield to attack" profile for a Soft 5 finish.
3. Major Hot (No.13) — $6.20 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.19x
Why I respect him, but the place band isn't profitable enough here, so we don't force it.
Roughie: Magic Invader (No.3) — $10.30 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.6% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 0.42x
Why His roughie path is a wide gap opening early in the straight, and him finding something late like a late-night plot twist.
Race 5 – Cruice Creations Hcp (C1) (Ipswich 1350m)
Race type: Class 1, 1350m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, but in Class 1 on Soft 5, the winner is usually the one who can keep travel through the middle.
Punty read: This one's about Buckeye being too switched on for a lot of these, while Rochedale Hero is the one that can absolutely run into it if the race doesn't turn into a mad dash. Nozomu is the underdog with a place chance if he gets the right trip, and Kadesky is the sort of sprinter-miler who can creep into the mix if it's not too harsh early.
Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)
1. Buckeye (No.2) — $3.08 / $1.50
Bet $14.00 Win, return $43.12
Prob 23.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.97x
Why Blinkers on is a race-focused move, and with the Soft 5, a controlled effort is gold. He's got the best chance to win.
2. Rochedale Hero (No.1) — $4.05 / $1.65
Bet $5.00 Place, return $8.25
Prob 22.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.20x
Why Proven capability in the wet-ish footing and he's the value place profile when the tempo stays moderate.
3. Nozomu (No.11) — $6.25 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.5% | Place: 43.3% | Value: 1.03x
Why Solid, but the place band at this rank isn't paying enough for my liking.
Roughie: Kadesky (No.5) — $9.00 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.9% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.06x
Why He's got a roughie path if the on-pacers tire and he's still travelling at the 200m mark, that's when prices get upgraded.
Race 6 – Great Northern Hcp (C1) (Ipswich 1350m)
Race type: Class 1, 1350m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, so the on-pacers with a clean run get first dibs at the line.
Punty read: This is a race where positioning decides the story. Ready For Aimee has the blinkers off first time, which tells me the stable wants her to actually do something with her mind this prep. Katie Aine is the pressure for the quinella type, and Saturdays Girl is the sneaky runner that can sit closer than people expect and still hold on. The Soft 5 means late runners have to be good, because they're spending more energy just getting around.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Ready For Aimee (No.2) — $4.75 / $1.95
Bet $10.50 Win, return $49.88
Prob 22.0% | Place: 53.6% | Value: 1.39x
Why Barrier 3, blinkers off first time, and the on-pace plan fits the Ipswich straight. This is the kind of horse that makes impatience pay.
2. Katie Aine (No.13) — $6.95 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.4% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.24x
Why A real chance — but at $2.65 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Saturdays Girl (No.7) — $8.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.6% | Place: 44.6% | Value: 1.34x
Why She's a live chance to place, but we only want to back the right band at the right price, and this one's not it.
Roughie: Brutal Lass (No.15) — $14.00 / $4.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 1.48x
Why Roughie path is getting the right cover and then booting late, especially if the front runners get too confident early.
Race 7 – The Lawn Shed Hcp (C2) (Ipswich 1680m)
Race type: Class 2, 1680m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so the midfield can stay in touch, then the finish is about who has the most petrol left.
Punty read: This is a 1680m grinder where the best horses are the ones that can keep making decisions. Precise Star is short-ish for a reason, but Possibilities is the one I'd watch for an upgrade in the run. Empire Of Art has the right "if gaps appear, he's dangerous" vibe. With Soft 5, a lot of runners look good until the 400m, then the ground grabs them.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.50 pool)
1. Precise Star (No.1) — $2.46 / $1.37
Bet $7.50 Win, return $18.45
Prob 21.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.69x
Why He's got the profile to keep traveling and he's tough enough for a slow tempo where everyone tries the same move.
2. Possibilities (No.2) — $4.75 / $1.82
Bet $5.00 Place, return $9.10
Prob 19.7% | Place: 65.5% | Value: 1.25x
Why Great "sit close, then strike" shape, and the market move supports he's more live than his price suggests.
3. Wounder (No.7) — $4.50 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.0% | Place: 63.5% | Value: 1.02x
Why Solid for the first few, but again, we're avoiding the less profitable band at this rank.
Roughie: Gagnante Enchere (No.10) — $9.15 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.4% | Place: 34.3% | Value: 1.02x
Why Roughie path is a delayed run where the straight opens at the right time, and he gets an uninterrupted run to the line.
SEQUENCE LANES
QUADDIE (R4–R7)
Smart: 10,4,13,3 / 1,2,11,5 / 2,13,7,15 / 1,2,7,10 (256 combos x $0.20 = $50.00) -- 20% flexi
Punty's take: R4 and R6 are the legs with the strongest shape, but you still gotta cover the wide-open sprint and the 1680m chaos. Entertainment value is high, but this is still a real ticket.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Soft 5 punishes "pretty" trips
When the tempo is slow, it's not enough to look like you're travelling, you've got to actually keep momentum through the middle. Ipswich Soft 5 makes the final section a tax.
2 - Market firmness in maidens is a weapon, not a vibe
The horses getting pushed in here usually have a plan. In tight maiden races, "firming" often means connections are ready to pull the trigger, not just hoping.
3 - The rail out changes who gets confident in the run
With the rail +4m, wide-ish runners are less disadvantaged than you think, but the inside gets a slightly smoother path for those who can hold position early. That's why I'm heavier on the ones that can track rather than those who need miracles from last.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Alright legends, if you play the spine and build the Quaddie lanes, you're betting like you've got a plan, not like you've just wandered into the TAB and started clicking buttons. Go get it, and if one of the roughies throws a strop and lands a place, just act shocked like the rest of us.
Gamble Responsibly.
