Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden, 1856m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, lots of midfield traffic, on a long day where the right backmarkers can still run on
Punty read: Meness is the one I want because it's been finishing the right way and it maps to be on the pace. Corviglia is the main "danger" type, but you've got to survive the chaos of a long backmarker run on Soft 5. Bohemian Boy is the sort that can move late if the leaders stop pretending they're invincible, Windhowler is the roughie because it's bred for staying on and it was wide last time, so if it gets a cleaner run it can sneak into the placings fast.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Meness (No.14) — $1.65 / $1.13 🏆 2ND
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 54.7% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.37x
Why On-pacer with speed in the right places, and on Soft 5 the horse that handles the lumpy transitions wins friends.
2. Corviglia (No.1) — $4.40 / $1.70 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.8% | Place: 63.2% | Value: 0.87x
Why A real chance — but at $1.70 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Bohemian Boy (No.13) — $6.50 / $2.25 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.60x
Why Can run into it late, but market is treating it like an afterthought and I'm not paying for hope.
Roughie: Windhowler (No.6) — $18.00 / $3.90 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.9% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.64x
Why If the leaders tire and it stops racing like it's late for something, it can clunk a place and cause havoc.
Race type: Maiden, 1454m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, on-pacers can steal it if they get an easy breathe
Punty read: Tanabata is the one I'm leaning on because it's got the type profile that survives soft conditions and still keeps its class edge in a maiden. Star Je Taime is the big threat if it doesn't get stuck in traffic, Salarae looks like it's live if it can roll forward and not pay for a slow start. Gracconi is there to be respected too, but if the pace is slow, it needs to actually show it can handle the last bit.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Tanabata (No.11) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$52.00
Prob 25.8% | Place: 53.5% | Value: 1.38x
Why Market likes it, and I like that it's got the on-pacer rhythm without needing everything perfect.
2. Star Je Taime (No.9) — $5.50 / $1.60 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.11x
Why A real chance — but at $1.60 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Salarae (No.4) — $4.20 / $1.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.60x
Why Has the look of a place chance, just needs to nail the trip and not lose ground early.
Roughie: Star Bowl (No.6) — $11.00 / $2.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.09x
Why If it finds a lane in the finish and doesn't get boxed, it's the kind of roughie that can pop up.
Race type: Maiden, 1103m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, leaders are going to be in your face
Punty read: Oceans Blue maps to be involved early and on this track style, that matters a hell of a lot. Lightwatch is the obvious danger if it can sit closer than usual, and Rentier is the "gets there if the race breaks" type. Muddy is a roughie because when cheeky mares get cheeky runs at this track, they can surprise, but the main thing is the tempo is genuine so the finish won't be a lottery.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Oceans Blue (No.11) — $3.40 / $1.60 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 39.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.74x
Why Gets the best run shape, and with genuine pace it can keep going instead of stopping.
2. Lightwatch (No.4) — $4.60 / $1.90 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.72x
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Rentier (No.9) — $6.00 / $2.25 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.79x
Why Leader vibes mean it can take the right section, but it needs to hold on to the soft landing.
Roughie: Muddy (No.5) — $11.00 / $2.55 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.21x
Why Value roughie, if it settles and quickens, it's the sort that grabs a cheque late.
Race type: Maiden, 1203m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, short sprint, best to have a horse that can keep pushing
Punty read: Swift Star looks like the standout and it's got the class and the map to keep going. Blue Dream is the main threat if it behaves and doesn't get trapped in the wrong pocket. Brutelli is there as the sneaky place and maybe win if the track's clinging to the inside and tempo turns into a sprint.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Swift Star (No.14) — $2.20 / $1.25 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $13.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$13.00
Prob 48.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.25x
Why This is exactly the type where the better horse and the right position team up. Easy.
2. Blue Dream (No.11) — $4.20 / $1.72 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.14x
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Brutelli (No.3) — $6.50 / $1.65 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.3% | Place: 61.9% | Value: 1.07x
Why If it gets clear, it can run into it, but it's not the one I want to carry the risk.
Roughie: Meggie Noodles (No.7) — $11.00 / $3.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.3% | Place: 33.0% | Value: 0.67x
Why Long odds, but if the field bunches and it's got a split, it can surprise.
Race type: Maiden, 1203m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, the race shape usually rewards the ones who can hold a spot
Punty read: Caddington is the bet. This is a soft ground, short sprint spot and it has the look of a horse that can keep going through the sticky middle. Incoherent is the main place threat, Celestial Ruler has value if it's one of those "actually turns up on the day" types, Flight Du Jour is the roughie if it can hit the right timing and not get bogged.
Top 3 + Roughie ($18.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Caddington (No.11) — $1.95 / $1.25 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$12.35
Prob 53.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.27x
Why It's got that on-the-bit profile and Soft 5 often makes sprint form gold.
2. Incoherent (No.6) — $12.00 / $3.40 🏆 2ND
Bet $5.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$12.00
Prob 12.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.58x
Why Can run a cheeky race, but it's the sort where you get forced to guess the finish.
3. Celestial Ruler (No.3) — $8.50 / $2.75 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.22x
Why There's juice in the profile, and it can win if the race falls its way.
Roughie: Flight Du Jour (No.5) — $9.00 / $2.85 SCR
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.4% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.06x
Why Roughie only if it grabs a run late, it's not built to win from nothing.
Race type: Benchmark 56, 1203m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, plenty of midpack and then it's a finish test
Punty read: Brutal World is the pick because it's got the classy edge and can land in the right spot even with a slow tempo. Ranakye looks like the danger with that on-pacer ability, Rose Of Shalaa is in the mix too, and Express Guard is the one that can run on if the race strings out. Cosmic Charger is the roughie, it's got the staying power vibe and if the track is clinging, those types can lift late.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Brutal World (No.13) — $7.00 / $2.50 🏆 WINNER
Bet $7.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$45.00
Prob 21.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.85x
Why It's drawn and run-shaped for a race like this, and it should be there when the tempo slows down.
2. Ranakye (No.7) — $8.50 / $2.90 🏆 11TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.3% | Place: 42.7% | Value: 1.47x
Why A real chance — but at $2.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Rose Of Shalaa (No.11) — $9.50 / $1.90 🏆 9TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.1% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.50x
Why It can hit the line, but Soft 5 sprinting punishes any hesitation.
Roughie: Cosmic Charger (No.15) — $11.00 / $3.50 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 29.6% | Value: 0.98x
Why If it finds a gap and the leaders go a touch early, it can fly late.
Race type: Benchmark 56, 1454m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, pace pressure makes it a midfield battle early
Punty read: Ataegina is my pick. It has the right combination of fitness and race shape, and in these BM56s the horse that keeps finding is the one you want. Galant Knight is a genuine danger if it can avoid getting shuffled, Pomah is in the mix for a place and maybe a win, and Brutify is the kind that can run on if the race turns into a contest of patience.
Top 3 + Roughie ($5.00 pool)
1. Ataegina (No.6) — $5.00 / $2.00 🏆 3RD
Bet $5.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$5.00
Prob 17.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.04x
Why It keeps plugging away and the tempo suits a horse that doesn't need to do everything early.
2. Galant Knight (No.1) — $4.20 / $1.80 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.8% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.86x
Why A real chance — but at $1.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Pomah (No.9) — $7.00 / $2.40 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.18x
Why It's got the range, but it needs the race to break slightly your way.
Roughie: Swift Circle (No.11) — $12.00 / $3.40 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 30.2% | Value: 0.97x
Why If it's got a clear crack in the straight, it can run on for a cheeky place.
Race type: Benchmark 56, 1856m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, longer trip, if they don't kick it can turn into a staying sprint
Punty read: Habitual is the one I want. Over 1856m on Soft 5, the horse that can keep its rhythm and not get bullied in the first half gets paid late. Just Swift is the main threat with the run-on style, Brutalrule is the next danger if it grabs a trail, Catalona is more of an outsider spice if the race turns into a wide-open dash for home.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Habitual (No.8) — $3.30 / $1.57 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $7.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$7.50
Prob 18.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.80x
Why The race can be slow enough for it to save ground, then it can go again late.
2. Just Swift (No.11) — $5.00 / $2.00 SCR
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.01x
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Brutalrule (No.7) — $7.00 / $2.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 42.8% | Value: 1.25x
Why It's live, but I don't want to fight the wide trip tax if the race bunches.
Roughie: Catalona (No.14) — $12.00 / $3.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 28.7% | Value: 1.25x
Why If it's one of those days where the market gives you a gift, it can grab the spoils.
Race type: Benchmark 56, 1103m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, short course means you must be in the right lane early
Punty read: Money Honey is the tip. It's got the on-pacer profile that loves a genuine-speed sprint, and that setup makes it hard for the backmarkers to steal it. Lady Maestro is the classic place pressure type, Please Me Do is there if the race splits, Blue Moon Summit is the outsider roughie if the front doesn't sprint away cleanly.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Money Honey (No.13) — $3.80 / $1.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P) — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 26.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.22x
Why This is the right type of short sprint for it, and it should be there when the pace does the talking.
2. Lady Maestro (No.12) — $4.60 / $1.55 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.1% | Place: 58.8% | Value: 1.01x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Please Me Do (No.15) — $6.50 / $1.80 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.96x
Why It can slot into the finish, but Money Honey looks the more dependable pick in this setup.
Roughie: Blue Moon Summit (No.4) — $16.00 / $3.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.33x
Why If it gets a clear run and the front group doesn't sail, it can grab the upset.

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Kyneton on a Soft 5, rail out 1m entire circuit, and the track's got that "everything's going to be a touch harder than it looks" vibe. Slow tempo up top means you can either get on the speed early, or get stitched up trying to be clever at the wrong time. Either way, the losers will say, "I should've followed Punty." Legends.
My spine today is pretty clean, and it's got that proper "pay day" smell, Meness in Race 1, Caddington in Race 5, and Swift Star in Race 4. Three horses, three different races, and all of them map to do the right thing at the right part of the track. From there I'll sprinkle in value roughies where the market is either missing the plot or overreacting to a recent hiccup.
