Maravillas sits in that same "if she gets clear, she runs on" bracket. Mayor Of Kingston is the sort that can sneak into the trifecta if the run turns into a tactical chess match, but I'm not paying for hopes today.

Rightio Loose Units, sunny and dry at Middlemount, rail True, and the surface's set up to reward the blokes who get their position sorted early. It's a five-race day, so no waffling around, you either press the button or you get left behind like a pair of thongs in the wardrobe after a spill.
First thing's first, the tempo at this track is looking slow-moderate in the shorter ones, then the Middlemount Cup turns into that "who's got the longer breath" showdown. With the rail True, you can get away with a ride that's more "efficient" than "heroic", and that matters a heap in sprints where one wrong move and you're suddenly watching the race go past.
And yeah, I've got a spine today. It's a Big 3 multi made for win betting land, then we lace the card race-by-race with the top three picks plus a roughie dart where the price can make you look like a genius for 10 minutes. Let's go.

Punty's take:
Race 1 and 2 are classic Middlemount sprint energy. Small fields mean you can trust the on-paces more than the "hope they sweep late" merchants, because there's nowhere to hide. I like horses that can either hold the early spot or land close enough to be there when they straighten.
Race 3 is your maiden plate test, and I'm steering into the two-way danger zone. Bestov and Anders Kiss look like they've got the base speed and the map to be competitive straight away, while Hot Luci is there to pounce if the race sets up. You want to back the right maiden, not the prettiest name.
Then Race 4 is where it gets spicy. Spec Of Silver is the obvious steam target, but the value is Mississippi Dream and Maravillas types who can sit in the pocket and make it awkward for the short-priced favourite to get clear. By the time you hit the Cup in Race 5, it's about who stays in rhythm for longer, not who just had a nice first 200m.
What it means for you:
Go in bold early in the races where the top pick is value and the field size keeps chaos under control. That's Race 1, Race 2, Race 4, and Race 5, where you're getting the clear "press and get paid" opportunities.
For the roughies, you're not chasing miracles. You're chasing the one scenario where pace collapses just enough, or the new gear gets the horse to do what it's supposed to do. That's where you back the price, because the rest of the day is built on getting your numbers close.
So plan it like this: lock the spine, then treat each race like a sprint decision tree. If they can hold their position, they're live. If they're stuck wide or slow early, they become place-only or just entertainment.
