Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Degenerates, Northam on a Good 4 with a fine day and gusts of 40.8km/h blowing through, seven races, and the speed map is doing most of the talking. The money is on Saisoku, Flying In The Wind and Don't Declare, so let's get into it.
PUNTY EARLY MAIL – Northam (2026-10-29)
For all of Punty's tips for Northam, head to https://punty.ai/tips/northam-2026-10-29
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Northam, 1000m to 2200m card
Rail: +2m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (Nil last 24hrs, 3mm last 7 days)
Weather: Fine, live gusts 40.8km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Slow in R1, R3, R6 and R7 (Moderate in R2 and R7 with the shape changing), Genuine in R4 and R5. Early speed is thin in R1 and R3, so the leaders in those races get a soft run. R2 has two proper leaders fighting it out, and R4 and R5 have a clear front-runner each.
Jockeys to follow:
William Pike: Six rides on the card, headlined by Saisoku in Race 1 and Flying In The Wind in Race 2. He has the two shortest prices on the day, so his book is the one to watch.
Troy Turner: Five rides, including Rock Silver in Race 1 and Kat Five in Race 2. He is the jockey on the Race 1 roughie.
Paul Harvey: Three rides, including Mr Mellon in Race 2 and Incredible Mr Fox in Race 3. Mr Mellon has a strong combo with the stable at this track.
Stables to respect:
S V Vahala (3 runners): Saisoku, All The Rage and Frosted Warrior. Saisoku is the Race 1 bet and Frosted Warrior is the each-way in Race 5.
Simon Miller (4 runners): Don't Declare, Snow Monkey, Keppel Gate and Yougivemechills. Don't Declare is the Race 4 bet and the stable has the strongest depth of the day.
D R Harrison (4 runners): Mr Mellon, Incredible Mr Fox, Luminous Lil and Buster Biff. Luminous Lil is the each-way in Race 3.
Punty's take: Northam has handed us a card of two halves. Race 1 is a slow-motion maiden where Saisoku looks like the only horse that's been running on at the business end, and the speed is so light that nobody is going to be out there enjoying the front. Race 2 is the only race with two proper leaders (Final Call and Mr Mellon) fighting over the early lead, and that's exactly the shape that stops Mr Mellon from getting a soft lead without a fight. Race 3 is the one I'm watching most closely, because Luminous Lil is sitting handy from barrier 9 in a slow race where the front-runners barely have to try. Race 4 is a genuine pace with Swing'n'roundabout the only leader from barrier 6, and Don't Declare sits midfield from the inside and gets the shape handed to it. Race 5 is the one where I'd be careful. Lohtse is the only leader from barrier 11 and the pace is genuine, so the backmarkers have to come from a long way back. Race 6 and Race 7 are where the value is hiding. Race 7 has three handy horses in Idyllic Ruler, Lano and Buster Biff all sitting on the speed, and the market's preferred pick Show The Way is midfield in a race that's shaping up to favour the front. That's the reason he's on the each-way list at the price he is and not the bank.
What it means for you: Be aggressive on Saisoku in Race 1 and Don't Declare in Race 4, because those two have the strongest combination of market, form and shape. Race 2's Flying In The Wind is the other big cheese, and the win bet is correct, but the pace fight up front means you have to respect Mr Mellon and Final Call. Race 3 and Race 5 are where the each-way pieces sit, with Luminous Lil and Frosted Warrior at prices that still leave room for the place to pay. Race 7 is where I'd protect the bank, because Show The Way's shape is against it and the price is short enough that a bad run would sting. The Quaddie is Races 4 to 7, and the four legs are open enough that the flexi matters more than the tight legs.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Saisoku (Race 1, No.2) — $1.50
Why The most likely winner on the card, sitting midfield from barrier 2 in a slow maiden where the shape helps him and the jockey (William Pike) has been in good form on the card.
2 - Flying In The Wind (Race 2, No.6) — $1.45
Why Sits midfield from barrier 2 in a race where the two leaders will go hard at each other, which leaves the trail open. He's the one horse in the field with a strong jockey and trainer combo at the track and a 1 win from 2 on good record.
3 - Don't Declare (Race 4, No.2) — $1.70
Why Sits midfield from barrier 1 in a genuine pace race with the only leader drawn wide, and his jockey has been hot on the card. The shape is in his favour and his last start was a 4th at Belmont Park.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 3.70 = $37.00
Race 1 – 360 Farm And Regional Mdn
Race type: Maiden, 2200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on paper, and nobody maps to lead, so the likeliest to find the front is Tagolorian from barrier 5. Rock The Mic and Mesa Grande are drawn wide and need cover, and Saisoku sits midfield from barrier 2 with the shape helping his running style. My numbers say the trip and the soft pace suit him, and the wide-drawn backmarkers have a lot of ground to make up.
Punty read: Saisoku is the bet, $15 win on the horse that's been running on. He finished 3rd at Northam 2200m last start and has two seconds and a third from his last few on this track, so the trip is not a problem. The winker comes off for the first time, which is worth a look. Rock The Mic is the danger, a backmarker who finished 2nd at Belmont Park 2100m and has the second-best price in the market, but he has to make up ground from the back in a race where the leader may not be quick enough to run him down. Yalda Night is in the midfield on a rough recent run and is only a danger if the early tempo lifts.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

Bet $15.00 Win, return $22.50
Prob 55.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip

Prob 26.4% | Place: 60.8% | Value: 0.77x ▲8% since tip

3. Yalda Night (No.1) — $9.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.68x ▼11% since tip
Why Midfield from barrier 1 with a 5th at Belmont Park 1400m last start. He's a danger if the race turns into a sprint to the line.
Roughie: Rock Silver (No.4) — $13.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.3% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 0.56x ▼8% since tip
Why Backmarker from barrier 4 who can run on if the leader gets tired. Blinkers come off again, visors go on again, so the gear change is the thing to watch.
Race 2 – ATC MB Hcp (C1)
Race type: Class 1, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with two proper leaders, Final Call (barrier 5) and Mr Mellon (barrier 3), who will fight for the front. Mr Mellon is the one with the pace advantage and the draw to get the lead if he wants it. Flying In The Wind sits midfield from barrier 2, so he gets the trail and the shape suits him. The Lucky Chip is drawn wide from barrier 6 and needs cover, which makes him a backmarker with a lot of work to do.
Punty read: Flying In The Wind is the bet, $15 win on the horse that has the best combination of form and shape. He won at Bunbury 1200m and at Lark Hill 950m, and he's been hot in the market with a 33% strike rate in his last 100 rides. His last start was a 5th at Ascot 1400m, but the trip and shape look right. Mr Mellon is the danger on the front-running side, a leader who has already won at Belmont Park 1200m and goes straight into a fight with Final Call for the lead. The Lucky Chip is the backmarker who needs the pace to collapse to be a factor.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Flying In The Wind (No.6) — $1.45 / $1.08
Bet $15.00 Win, return $21.75
Prob 52.6% | Place: 54.1% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why He's the horse who gets the trail in a race with two leaders. His last 100 rides have been hot and the jockey and trainer combination at this track has a 26.6% strike rate.

3. Kat Five (No.4) — $13.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 16.7% | Value: 0.63x Steady since tip
Why Sits on the speed from barrier 4 and has a 1 win from 9 record at this distance. Pads come off for the first time, which is a gear change to watch.
Roughie: The Lucky Chip (No.7) — $18.00 / $4.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.9% | Place: 11.5% | Value: 0.71x ▼6% since tip
Why Backmarker from barrier 6 whose sectionals are the fastest in the field on the last 600m and 400m. If the two leaders burn each other out, he has the closing speed to come home.
Race 3 – UUA Mdn
Race type: Maiden, 1000m
Map & tempo: Slow pace again, and nobody maps to lead, though Incredible Mr Fox from barrier 5 and Luminous Lil from barrier 9 are the likeliest to find the front. Luminous Lil is drawn wide and has to work to cross, but the slow shape suits the forward runners and she's the pace advantaged horse on the card. Apollo Storm is the one who gets hurt by this shape, sitting midfield in a race that's going to be run on the front.
Punty read: Luminous Lil is the bet, $10 each way on a sprinter who has the shape in her favour. Her last start was a 4th at Northam 1100m, and the excuse says medical or physical issue plus interference, so I'm happy to forgive that run. Her price has the place value attached, which is why I'm putting the each-way on rather than the win only. Incredible Mr Fox is the leader on the speed map from barrier 5, and he's the danger because he can take the lead if Luminous Lil is slow out of the gates. Keppel Gate is the backmarker who could run on if the pace stays easy.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Luminous Lil (No.4) — $4.20 / $1.75
Bet $10.00 Each Way ($5.00W + $5.00P), collects $29.75 if it wins ($21.00 win + $8.75 place), $8.75 if it only places
Prob 21.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.88x ▼12% since tip
Why Handy from barrier 9, the shape is in her favour and she's the pace advantaged runner. The place price is a good value for a sprinter whose last start had a bad run.
2. Keppel Gate (No.6) — $3.70 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.62x ▼8% since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Incredible Mr Fox (No.1) — $6.00 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 44.4% | Value: 0.90x ▼8% since tip
Why Leader on the speed map from barrier 5 in a slow race, so he's the danger if he gets to the front. He's been drifting out of the market, which makes him the one to watch.
Roughie: God She's Good (No.9) — $9.00 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.7% | Place: 33.7% | Value: 0.96x ▼6% since tip
Why Map unknown, so I'm not claiming a position for her. Winkers go on for the first time, and she's been running well at Belmont Park with a 2nd at 850m and a 3rd at 400m.
Race 4 – NTI Mdn
Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Swing'n'roundabout the only leader from barrier 6 and nothing else pressuring him up front. Playa Del Sol is the pace advantaged horse but is drawn wide from barrier 8 and has to work to cross. Don't Declare sits midfield from barrier 1 and gets the perfect sit in a race where the front runner can be run down. Majestic View is the backmarker from barrier 7 who needs cover.
Punty read: Don't Declare is the bet, $15 win on the horse who the shape helps, sitting midfield from the inside with a genuine pace in front. He ran 4th at Belmont Park 1000m last start and has been hot in the market with a 33% strike rate over his last 100 rides. Snow Monkey is the danger with a 2nd at Northam 1100m last start and an excellent place record. Playa Del Sol is the one who could run on if Swing'n'roundabout leads too hard.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Don't Declare (No.2) — $1.75 / $1.01
Bet $15.00 Win, return $26.25
Prob 43.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.76x ▲21% since tip
Why Sits midfield from barrier 1 in a genuine pace race where the shape helps him. His jockey (William Pike) has the strongest rider profile on the card and the stable has a good run of form.

Bet Tracked
Prob 38.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.84x ▼21% since tip

Bet Tracked
Prob 7.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why Map unknown, so no position claimed. Came in off a 1st at Belmont Park 1000m, and the jockey combo at this track has been in good form.
Roughie: Playa Del Sol (No.5) — $14.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.2% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.45x ▲50% since tip
Why On the speed from barrier 8 and the pace advantaged runner, so if Swing'n'roundabout gets run down he has the closing ground to fill a place. Interference and raced wide in recent runs, so the wide draw is a worry.
Race 5 – Vero Mdn
Race type: Maiden, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Lohtse the only leader from barrier 11. He's uncontested on the map and has the front to himself. Frosted Warrior is a backmarker from barrier 9 and the shape is against him, so he has to win from the back. De Lago's Rock sits midfield from barrier 1 with the trail, which is the shape that suits him.
Punty read: Frosted Warrior is the each-way bet, $13 each way on the back-marker who has the best combination of form and value on the card. He ran 2nd at Belmont Park 1400m last start and 3rd at Bunbury 1400m before that, so he's a horse who has been running well at the trip. The shape is against him, and I'm not hiding that, but a horse who can run on from the back in a genuine pace is the one who wins these. De Lago's Rock is the danger, sitting midfield from barrier 1 with a 3rd at Northam 1600m last start and a 1st in market support. Lohtse is the leader and the one to watch if nobody challenges.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Frosted Warrior (No.3) — $2.35 / $1.30
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), collects $23.73 if it wins ($15.28 win + $8.45 place), $8.45 if it only places
Prob 35.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.82x ▼4% since tip
Why Backmarker from barrier 9 who has been running well at the trip. The shape is against him, but he's had a 2nd and a 3rd in his last two starts and his jockey has a strong combo with the trainer.

Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 36.3% | Value: 0.75x ▲10% since tip
Why The only leader on the card in this race from barrier 11, and he's uncontested. If he gets away cleanly he can hold the front, but the wide draw makes him vulnerable.
Roughie: Sylva Jack (No.2) — $18.00 / $4.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.8% | Place: 19.4% | Value: 0.50x ▲17% since tip
Why Midfield from barrier 7 with a 2nd and a 1st at Northam 2200m in his last few starts. Winkers go on for the first time, which is the gear change to watch.
Race 6 – Country Wide Insurance Brokers Hcp (C3)
Race type: Class 3, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace with nobody mapping to lead. Cheyne Bay from barrier 5 and Knockoneback from barrier 8 are the likeliest to find the front, and Knockoneback is the pace advantaged horse but drawn wide. Sunday Mass is the one who gets hurt by this shape, sitting midfield in a race where the front-runners are going to be in charge. Chino Bay from barrier 7 is the backmarker who needs cover.
Punty read: Cheyne Bay is the bet, $13 win on the on-pace horse who has the best form in the field. He ran 2nd at Northam 1400m last start and has won 2 from 16 on good at this track. The shape is against him, and I'd have liked him to be a bit further back, but a horse who has been winning at a good strike rate can get the job done from the front. Chino Bay is the danger from the back, a backmarker with a 2nd at Lark Hill 930m and a winker on for the first time. Ginger And Tonic is the midfield runner who could fill a place.

Prob 7.1% | Place: 29.5% | Value: 0.93x ▲8% since tip
Why Backmarker from barrier 6 who won at Kalgoorlie 1638m last start. The slow pace is the one thing working against him, but he has the form to run on if the leaders stop.
Race 7 – Attvest Hcp (C5)
Race type: Class 5, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Idyllic Ruler, Lano and Buster Biff all sitting handy, and three horses on the speed will be competing for the front. Idyllic Ruler is drawn wide from barrier 11 and has to work to cross. Show The Way sits midfield from barrier 9, which is the wrong shape for a moderate pace where the speed horses are all handy. The backmarkers Queen Aria and Random Rewards get the shape that suits them.
Punty read: Show The Way is the bet, $13 win, and I'm backing a horse who has won his last two starts at Northam. He won at Northam 1400m last start and at Northam 1300m before that, so the form says he's the horse to beat. The shape is against him though, a midfield sitter in a moderate race where the front runners are handy. Queen Aria is the danger from the back, with a 2nd at Pinjarra Scarpside 1600m in her recent form and a jockey with a 33% strike rate in his last 100 rides. Random Rewards is the other backmarker who could run on if the pace is strong up front.

Prob 6.4% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 0.64x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker from barrier 4 who ran 4th at Kalgoorlie 1200m last start and has a strong closing record. If the moderate pace holds up, he has the run to get into the finish.
SEQUENCE LANES
QUADDIE (R4–R7)
Smart: 2,9 / 3,7 / 1,4,8,7 / 5,7,8,12 (64 combos x $0.3125 = $20.00) -- 31.2% flexi
Punty's take: Two tight legs in R4 and R5 with Don't Declare and Snow Monkey, and Frosted Warrior and De Lago's Rock on the same page. R6 and R7 are the wide legs with four runners each, so the flexi is where the payout lives. Solid, low-risk play for the outlay.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - The winker comes off for Saisoku
Saisoku's winker (one side only, the left/near side) comes off for the first time in Race 1. He's been a midfield sitter who is running on at the business end, so the gear change is worth a look.
2 - Show The Way's wins came at Northam
Show The Way won at Northam 1400m last start and at Northam 1300m before that. Both are strong recent wins, which is why he's the Race 7 bet even with the shape against him.
3 - Rock Silver's gear keeps flipping
Blinkers come off again and visors go on again for Rock Silver in Race 1. He's the roughie with the gear changes to watch, and if the race turns into a dogfight at the back, he's the one who could sneak in.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Seven races, one good Quaddie, and a whole lot of horses who'll make you sweat. Back the bets I've locked in, take your place bets seriously, and don't go chasing the roughies if they don't show up in the market.
