For all of Punty's tips for Rockhampton, head to https://punty.ai/tips/rockhampton-2026-10-27

Rightio Ticket Munchers, Rockhampton is sitting on a Soft 5 under overcast skies with a card running 1100m to 1600m, and the speed map is about as tidy as a bloke's excuse at last drinks. Seven races, 61 runners, and only one race with a proper genuine pace. That means we're reading shape more than names this afternoon, so grab a coffee and let's get into it.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Rockhampton, 1100m to 1600m card
Rail: +5.5m Entire
Official going: Soft 5 (Rainfall: Nil last 24hrs, 10.5mm last 7 days)
Weather: Overcast
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Races 1, 2, 5 and 7 are slow or moderate pace setups with no real leader on the map. Race 3 is the only genuine pace with Sunnycoast marked as the lone LEADER. Race 6 is the hot one, with three LEADER runners in Lim's Teide, Craiglea Merida and Blue Toes.
Jockeys to follow:
Nikki Olzard: 4 rides today, including Pulsating in R2 and Zedari in R7, two horses that matter to the day.
Ryan Wiggins: 5 rides today, including Coney Island Baby in R5 and Lim's Teide in R6, both on the staked list.
Adam Sewell: 5 rides today, including Patienceofasaint in R2 and Craiglea Merida in R6, a rider who can hustle a horse into a race.
Stables to respect:
Alisha Taylor (5 runners): Five runners on the card, including The Barber in R1, Metalcraft in R3, Diamond Gust in R4 and Lim's Teide in R6. Her record at this track is 27.2% (22/81), and that is a stable that knows the place.
J E McConachy (5 runners): Pulsating in R2, Sunnycoast in R3, The Defender in R4, Gypsy's Daughter in R6 and Zedari in R7. Five chances spread across the card.
Kristie Clark-Peoples (5 runners): Coney Island Baby in R5, Kadall in R4 and Kemal in R6 among them. Coney Island Baby is the Big 3 horse from this yard.

Punty's take: Rockhampton's speed is thin on the ground today, and that's the whole story. Race 1 and Race 5 both lack a true LEADER on the map, so whoever sits closest early is going to find it a bit easier than they should. Race 6 is the one where the speed is loaded up front, with Lim's Teide, Craiglea Merida and Blue Toes all listed as LEADER in a hot pace, and that's a race that could set up for the closers. Race 3 is the one with a genuine pace, and Sunnycoast is the horse setting the tone there. Pulsating is the favourite in R2 and a slow pace means nobody's going to make him run for his money early, but he's also marked as a pace disadvantaged horse so he has to win the old-fashioned way. Coney Island Baby, my Big 3 horse in R5, is the fastest early speed on the card at rank 1, which is a nice little tailwind in a race where the pace is slow.

What it means for you: Get your aggression in the places where the numbers stack up. Pulsating in R2 and Coney Island Baby in R5 are the bankers of the day as far as I'm concerned, and The Barber in R1 is the same deal at a bit less short a price. R3 and R6 are the chaos races, with Metalcraft drifting and the hot pace in R6 likely to turn the race into a finishing sprint. Don't go mad on the roughies. Protect the bankroll through the middle of the card and let the Quaddie do the heavy lifting in R4 to R7, where Diamond Gust and Zedari carry real weight. The value sits in the horses who can run on in a slow race, and that's the lane I'm playing.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Pulsating (Race 2, No.6) — $1.75
Why Visors go on first time and he's the best-performed horse in a maiden with a soft record that reads 4 starts for 0 wins but three placings across eleven starts, and he's the one the market trusts most.
2 - The Barber (Race 1, No.1) — $2.20
Why The only horse in R1 with a win on soft in the form book and a 1 win from 1 soft record, and he's the one the speed map sends into a slow race with the most pace on his side.
3 - Coney Island Baby (Race 5, No.1) — $2.80
Why Speed rank 1 in a slow race, a 2kg rise but still fastest for early pace and sectionals, and Ryan Wiggins has the cue on a horse that wins over this trip.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × 10.78 = $107.80

Race 1 – TAB Hcp

Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace. Pace advantaged: The Barber, Jungle Rhythm, Blessed Boom. Pace disadvantaged: Barbarian King, Sport, Fancy Geeone. The Barber is MIDFIELD, Jungle Rhythm is BACKMARKER, Blessed Boom is MIDFIELD, Barbarian King is MIDFIELD, Sport is MIDFIELD and Fancy Geeone is ON-PACE, the only ON-PACE runner on the map.
Punty read: The Barber is my staked pick at $15 win, and I like him because he's the horse who's handled this surface and trip the best on the form. He is 1 win from 1 on soft, 1 from 1 at the track, and 2 wins from 3 at 1200m, with the top track rider numbers in the field behind him. Fancy Geeone is the only horse the map puts in the ON-PACE slot, so he's the one who'll be closest early and the one to watch if the speed holds up. Jungle Rhythm is a backmarker in a slow race, which is a real danger if the pace is as dawdly as the map suggests, and Blessed Boom comes back from a win last start at Rockhampton. Sport has no wins on soft from five starts, so I'm not going near him.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. The Barber (No.1) — $2.20 / $1.37
Bet $15.00 Win, return $33.00
Prob 36.4% | Place: 48.5% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why Advantaged in a slow pace, a rider with a 17.4% strike rate at this track and a trainer at 27.2% here, and the best sectional at the line with the fastest time in the field last start.
2. Fancy Geeone (No.6) — $4.00 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.1% | Place: 45.9% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Barbarian King (No.3) — $4.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.1% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why A horse with form that gets around the track, but he's in the pace disadvantaged group and the price doesn't make it worth a bet.

Roughie: Blessed Boom (No.5) — $9.00 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 22.5% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why He's in the pace advantaged group, won at Rockhampton last start, and his 1 win from 1 on soft gives him a path if the leaders run out of steam.

Race 2 – Great Northern Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace. Pace advantaged: He's A Fighter, Purposely, Testy Nic, Patienceofasaint. Pace disadvantaged: Pulsating. Pulsating and Enterprise Valour are ON-PACE, Bullrun, Purposely and Mean Magic are BACKMARKER, and He's A Fighter, Testy Nic, Wave Dancer and Patienceofasaint are MIDFIELD.
Punty read: Pulsating is my staked pick at $13 win. He's the market's favourite at $1.75 and I'm backing the market on this one. He's 0 wins from 11 starts, but three seconds and two thirds tells me he's a horse who's always finishing in the placings. Visors go on first time today, and his sectionals are the fastest in the race at both 600m and 400m. The pace disadvantage is a real concern in a slow race, but he's the one who's been finishing well. Patienceofasaint and Testy Nic are the danger, both listed as pace advantaged and both in the market with firming prices. He's A Fighter at $21.00 is the roughie.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Pulsating (No.6) — $1.80 / $1.09
Bet $13.00 Win, return $23.40
Prob 45.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why Visors on first time and the fastest closing sectionals in the field, and he's the one the market believes in most. Shortest price on the card and I'm happy to take it.
2. Patienceofasaint (No.9) — $5.50 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.89x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.75 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Testy Nic (No.5) — $4.40 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why Advantaged in the slow pace and his sectionals at 600m are rank 2, but the price isn't tempting enough.

Roughie: He's A Fighter (No.3) — $21.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.6% | Place: 24.3% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why He's pace advantaged and has a 1500m run that was a held-up effort, so if the field collapses into a tactical race, he's got a path from midfield.

Race 3 – Racing Work Safety Month Hcp

Race type: Open, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Sunnycoast is the only LEADER and Metalcraft, Alloutatime and Thee Creek are ON-PACE. Pace disadvantaged: Aztec State, Bold Comic, Sunnycoast, Metalcraft, Alloutatime.
Punty read: Metalcraft is my staked pick at $12 win. He's marked as ON-PACE and his soft record reads 4 starts for 3 wins, which is the kind of track form that makes the stake worth it. The market has drifted him from $1.85 to $2.45, which is a cooling signal, but he's still the horse with the best soft record in the race. The genuine pace is going to test anyone who's rated pace disadvantaged, so the danger is Bold Comic and Thee Creek, both of whom have money coming in. Sunnycoast on the lead is the one who could make this a sharp test if he holds on.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)

1. Metalcraft (No.4) — $2.50 / $1.45
Bet $12.00 Win, return $30.00
Prob 26.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.67x Steady since tip
Why 3 wins from 4 on soft and a last start win at Rockhampton, and his rider Chris Mc Iver has the cue. Drifting, but the form is still the strongest on the card in this race.
2. Bold Comic (No.2) — $4.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.4% | Place: 45.0% | Value: 1.05x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Thee Creek (No.6) — $4.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.2% | Place: 41.6% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why Heavy support from $5.00 to $4.00 and ON-PACE in a genuine pace race, so he's got the speed to be closer to the action.

Roughie: Sunnycoast (No.3) — $7.00 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.8% | Place: 29.9% | Value: 0.90x Steady since tip
Why The genuine pace leader on the map, and if he gets an uncontested lead he can set the tempo his way. The risk is that he's pace disadvantaged and carries the same tag as the leaders, so this is one for the bold.

Race 4 – Melbourne Cup At Callaghan Park Plate (C3)

Race type: Class 3, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Pace advantaged: Yes Larry. Pace disadvantaged: Kadall, The Defender, Diamond Gust, Bonewood. Kadall and Ellibaby are ON-PACE, Diamond Gust is ON-PACE too, and Bruckheimer, The Defender, Yes Larry, Adranos and Bonewood are MIDFIELD. Luxor Prince is BACKMARKER.
Punty read: Diamond Gust is my staked pick at $15 win. He's the market's firming horse from $3.80 to $3.30, and his soft record is 1 win and 1 second from two starts. Last start was a second at Rockhampton on the 19th, which is his best form in months. Blinkers are on again, and the nasal strip is on first time. He's pace disadvantaged in a moderate race, but he's the one with the freshest form. Kadall and The Defender are the danger, both with placings in the mud and both carrying pace disadvantage tags too. Yes Larry is the only pace advantaged horse and he's the one to watch if the race stays moderate.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Diamond Gust (No.5) — $3.50 / $1.52
Bet $15.00 Win, return $52.50
Prob 29.3% | Place: 62.0% | Value: 1.03x Steady since tip
Why Market firming and Blinkers back on, and a horse whose last start on the 19th was a placing at Rockhampton. The weight line reads 0 wins from 2 at 61kg, so that's the note to keep in your head.
2. Kadall (No.2) — $5.50 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.91x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. The Defender (No.3) — $6.00 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why Won at Thangool and Mackay in his last two starts, and a 1 win from 1 class record at Class 1. The market has eased from $5.00 to $6.00, and that's the kind of drift that makes me look twice.

Roughie: Ellibaby (No.6) — $10.00 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why ON-PACE and placed in his last two starts at Emerald and Thangool, so if the front runners fold he's got a line into the finish, but the market has drifted from $6.00 to $9.50 and that's a warning.

Race 5 – Garrards Hcp (55)

Race type: Restricted 55, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace. Pace advantaged: General Wolffe, Peaking Tom, Mr Grey. Pace disadvantaged: Coney Island Baby, Sneaky Peaky, Panda Drum. Masali Raffa is the only ON-PACE runner. Coney Island Baby and Panda Drum are MIDFIELD, General Wolffe, Peaking Tom, Mr Grey and Red Feathers are BACKMARKER.
Punty read: Coney Island Baby is my staked pick at $10.50 win. He's the speed rank 1 horse in this race, with the fastest sectionals at 600m and 400m and fastest time in the field. The soft record is 1 win and 3 seconds from 12 starts, and he's out a last start 10th at Sunshine Coast but ran 3rd at Sunshine Coast 2245m the start before. Ryan Wiggins has the ride and the market is backing him from $2.80 to ... well, he's the market favourite. Red Feathers and Mr Grey are the danger, both in the market and both BACKMARKER. Masali Raffa is the one horse on the map who'll be ON-PACE, and the market has been heavy on her from $15.00 to $12.00.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Coney Island Baby (No.1) — $2.80 / $1.30
Bet $10.50 Win, return $29.40
Prob 32.3% | Place: 59.3% | Value: 0.90x Steady since tip
Why Fastest early speed in a slow race and the fastest sectionals in the field, so he gets the run he needs. A 2kg rise is the only worry on the sheet.
2. Red Feathers (No.8) — $4.20 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.9% | Place: 53.6% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.60 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Mr Grey (No.7) — $7.00 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.4% | Place: 41.1% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why Pace advantaged and a Tongue tie on again, but the weight line reads 0 wins from 2 at 59kg, which is the cautious note.

Roughie: Masali Raffa (No.6) — $13.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.2% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why The only ON-PACE runner in a race that could set up for a closer, and the market has come heavy on her from $15.00 to $12.00. If the slow pace stays slow, she's the one who might be first to the lead.

Race 6 – Kennas Chartered Accountants (Bm55)

Race type: Benchmark 55, 1100m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace. Leaders: Lim's Teide, Craiglea Merida, Blue Toes, all LEADER on the map. Pace disadvantaged: Villandry, Kemal. Darth Invader and Gypsy's Daughter are ON-PACE and MIDFIELD respectively, and Sujeed, Villandry and Kemal are MIDFIELD.
Punty read: Lim's Teide is my staked pick at $15 win. He's the LEADER on the map and in a hot pace, he's the one who can take the sting out of the early speed. He won last start at Rockhampton 1000m, and his good record is 1 win and 1 second from 4 starts. Ear muffs go on for the first time today. Craiglea Merida and Blue Toes are the danger on the front, with Blue Toes's blinkers on first time and Craiglea Merida drifting from $7.50 to $10.00. The closers in Gypsy's Daughter and Sujeed are the ones to watch if the leaders fight it out.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Lim's Teide (No.2) — $2.80 / $1.37
Bet $15.00 Win, return $42.00
Prob 25.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why LEADER in a hot pace and a Rockhampton win last start, and Ryan Wiggins rides for the trainer Alisha Taylor who has a 27.2% strike rate at this track.
2. Gypsy's Daughter (No.9) — $4.60 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.6% | Place: 60.9% | Value: 1.04x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Sujeed (No.4) — $4.40 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.62x Steady since tip
Why Firming from $5.00 to $4.20, and a 10 start track record with 1 win and 2 seconds. The hot pace could set this up for a closer like him.

Roughie: Rickythesteamboat (No.7) — $9.00 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.9% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why Midfield in a hot pace and his market is firming from $10.00 to $9.00. If the leaders blow up, he's one to take a look at for the finish.

Race 7 – Airtech Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning (Bm68)

Race type: Benchmark 68, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Pace advantaged: Spanish Blaze, Uluwatu, Warna. Pace disadvantaged: Dark Gleam, Bold Artic, Humble Hero, King's Duty, Outwitted. Zedari, Bold Artic, Humble Hero and Outwitted are ON-PACE, and King's Duty, Spanish Blaze, Dark Gleam, Uluwatu, Warna and Thebarberofseville are MIDFIELD.
Punty read: Zedari is my staked pick at $6.50 each way. He's the speed rank 1 horse on the map and ON-PACE, with a soft record of 1 win and 1 second from 5 starts. He won at Rockhampton 1200m last start and at Thangool 800m the start before. The weight is 5kg up from last start, and that's the cautionary note. Humble Hero is ON-PACE and has the strongest track record in the race at 3 wins from 4 starts. King's Duty is the danger in the midfield, but he's 0 wins from 12 on soft, so I'm not betting him. Spanish Blaze is the horse in the advantaged group who's drifted from $21.00 to $34.00, which is the market giving up on him.

Top 3 + Roughie ($6.50 pool)

1. Zedari (No.3) — $4.80 / $1.82
Bet $6.50 Each Way ($3.25W + $3.25P), collects $21.52 if it wins ($15.60 win + $5.92 place), $5.92 if it only places
Prob 20.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.97x Steady since tip
Why ON-PACE in a moderate pace with the fastest early speed rating on the card, and a 1 win from 1 at Rockhampton 1200m last start. The 5kg weight rise is the risk.
2. Humble Hero (No.5) — $5.50 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.06x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. King's Duty (No.6) — $4.00 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why 0 wins from 12 on soft, so the price is a bit of a trap despite his class credentials.

Roughie: Outwitted (No.8) — $13.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.9% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why 3 wins from 12 at the track and 1 win and 1 second from 11 on soft. ON-PACE, so if the moderate pace holds, he's got a path, but the weight is a worry at 60-62kg.

SEQUENCE LANES

QUADDIE (R4–R7)

Smart: 5,3 / 1,8,7 / 2,9,4 / 3,6,5 (54 combos x $0.3704 = $20.00) -- 37% flexi
Punty's take: R4 and R5 are the tight legs with Diamond Gust and Coney Island Baby carrying them, R6 is a three-horse leg, and R7 is the wide one with four runners to cover. The ticket sits at 41.7% flexi, well above the 30% minimum, and it's a moderate-risk play. A quaddie needs a $5 to $10 winner somewhere to pay well, and Masali Raffa or Rickythesteamboat would do that job if they run.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Visors on, first time
Pulsating goes into R2 with visors on for the first time, and he's 0 wins from 11 starts with three seconds and two thirds. He's been finishing near the front without a win, so the visors are the one change that could tip him over the line.

2 - Race 6's hot pace comes with first-time gear
Blue Toes has blinkers on for the first time and Lim's Teide has ear muffs on for the first time in the same race, with three LEADER runners. Gear changes in a hot pace are the kind of thing that can shape a race before a horse has gone a stride.

3 - Spanish Blaze, the dance-floor flake
Spanish Blaze is the advantaged horse in R7 and he's drifted from $21.00 to $34.00. The market has decided he's not coming to the party, even with the pace on his side, and it's a good reminder that the price tells you something the form doesn't.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

Seven races, one soft track and a whole lot of mud to dig through, so back your reads, respect the pace and keep the bankroll in one piece. If the first two runners in Race 1 break clean, you'll know more than I do, and that's a fair thing to admit before the bell.
