Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Wagga Riverside, head to https://punty.ai/tips/wagga-riverside-2026-05-23
Rightio Loose Units, Wagga Riverside's a Soft 6 with showers hanging around like a bad sequel, and this card has enough pace pressure to turn a few favourites into expensive lawn ornaments.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Wagga Riverside, 6 race card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 6 (expected to play a touch testing, with the fence handy early and the better lane likely opening up as the day rolls on)
Weather: Showers, 15°C, humidity 91%, wind 14km/h W (watch for rain squalls and a bit of chop later)
Early lane guess: Inside okay early, but by the back half of the card I'd want something with momentum off the crown if the rain keeps nibbling
Tempo profile: The sprints look genuinely run, Race 4 is a proper pressure cooker, and Race 6 should be a bloody cavalry charge if they really roll along
Jockeys to follow:
Ms Teaghan Martin(a1.5/52kg) — the claim is gold dust on a day where track position matters and she's on a few live chances
Nathan Punch — keeps popping up on runners with some juice and can land the right sort of ride in these country skirmishes
Blaike McDougall — handy in the big-bag races where getting a smooth run is half the battle
Stables to respect:
Olivia Osborne (4 runners) — has a neat spread across the card and a couple of runners with serious market heat
Andrew Dale (4 runners) — multiple live ones and a few that map better than the market suggests
Doug Gorrel (4 runners) — enough runners to matter, and there are a couple of sneaky setups among them
Punty's take:
This is one of those Wagga cards where the form guide looks tidy until the first couple of races blow out and you realise the day's actually a bit feral. The sprints are where the blood gets spilt: genuine speed in Race 1, then a hot little knife-fight in Race 4, and Race 6 looks like someone threw a hand grenade into the map. On a Soft 6 with rain on the horizon, I'm leaning toward horses that can either hold a spot or land with a run on their terms - not the ones that need the stars, moon and a disappearing act from the bloke in front.
The other thing here is the market has got a few of these wrong in both directions. A couple of the shorties are getting shoved in like they're written on the back of the tab ticket from the heavens, but Punty's not swallowing all of that as gospel. Tristania has the sort of profile that can keep building, Bide Your Time looks the proper anchor, and Simone's Choice is the kind of each-way play that can make grown men howl if the pace goes cactus late. Meanwhile, some of the flashy movers in the open races are screaming "proceed with caution" more than they are "write your own ticket".
What it means for you:
Don't go full mug punter and chase every drifter or every steam like it's the last sausage roll at the canteen. Today is about picking the races with a shape you can actually trust, then keeping your powder dry where the map turns into chaos. Race 4 is the banker race for me - strong enough to lean on - while Races 2, 3, 5 and 6 are the sort of spots where you either keep it small or let the model do the heavy lifting and accept the race can still spit the dummy.
If you're having a crack, think in layers: a solid anchor, a couple of place-side plays, and then don't get greedy in the open ones. Soft ground plus pressure up front can make a strong horse look ordinary and an ordinary horse look like a freak for 100 metres. That's racing, mate - one minute you're John Wick, next minute you're a bloke trying to find the remote under the couch cushions. The smart money today is on being selective, not heroic.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
1 - Bide Your Time (Race 4, No.4) - $2.45
Why This bloke maps to control the race, has the right sort of speed to be handy without burning petrol, and on a Soft 6 with pressure building outside him he's the one they all have to run down.
2 - Tristania (Race 1, No.12) - $5.50
Why Fresh enough to do something, the money's been there all morning, and with the speed engaged up front she gets the perfect stalking setup to launch late.
3 - Simone's Choice (Race 6, No.3) - $5.00
Why Awkward gate, sure, but the stable has come to play and the hot tempo should string this out nicely for a late blowout if Teaghan Martin can get her into the right rhythm.
Multi (all three to win): $10 x ~67.38 = ~$673.75 collect
Race 1 - The Maiden Mayhem
Race type: MAIDEN, 1065m
Map & tempo: Genuine speed, with Tenacious Tiger likely rolling along and a few others trying to stick a nose in the picture
Punty read: This is a little knife fight down the straight, and the market's already having a proper tug-of-war with Tristania, Larkin and Eyes Right. But Brutal To The Max is being treated like it's got a free pass when the map says it'll need luck and the soft ground won't hand out mercy. Tristania looks the one who gets the right shape of race, Flying Betty can improve with the fresh legs, and Larkin is the sneaky on-pace factor if the wide draw doesn't pinch him early. The roughie Everyone's Mumma has the inside gate, but the drift says the ring's not exactly busting its arse to tell you she's ready to bolt in.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Tristania (No.12) - $5.50 / $2.10
Bet $15.00 Place, return $31.50
Prob 20.8% | Place: 64.9% | Value: 0.77x
Why She's got the right sort of racing pattern for this - can sit off the speed, let the leaders burn matches, and come over the top when they're gasping. The market's kept her honest and the soft track shouldn't bother her one bit.
2. Flying Betty (No.7) - $6.00 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.1% | Place: 59.0% | Value: 0.75x
Why If she jumps cleanly she's the one who can be rolling into it when the race gets messy late, but the setup isn't quite juicy enough to force the issue. More of a "watch the line and hope the bloke in the box is right" job.
3. Brutal To The Max (No.5) - $5.00 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.3% | Place: 43.9% | Value: 0.84x
Why The favourite tag is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Honest enough, but this looks like a race where a bit of pressure and a soft deck can make it look a touch shorter than it really is.
Roughie: Everyone's Mumma (No.2) - $9.00 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 30.4% | Value: 0.93x
Why From the inside she's got the map to be a pest if she begins well, but Punty's not blowing the budget on a horse the market has already had a good hard look at and still wasn't keen to embrace.
Race 2 - The Open Bumper Car
Race type: MAIDEN, 1675m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, with Tsarina Diamonds pressing on but doing it from a hairy draw and likely giving the others a nice tow
Punty read: This is the kind of maiden that punishes anyone trying to be a hero. Beached As Bro and Encampment are the logical ones at the top end of the market, but neither has me wanting to sell the family ute and go all in. Maxis Legacy can sit off them and get first crack if the leaders go too hard, while Tsarina Diamonds is the sort of runner that can make a race look dominant and then vanish the moment it gets ugly. Shartae is the mystery box - first start with gear changes - and in a race like this the mystery box can either produce a toaster or a chainsaw.
Top 3 + Roughie ($11.00 pool)
1. Beached As Bro (No.1) - $4.80 / $1.95
Bet $6.50 Place, return $12.67
Prob 15.1% | Place: 53.3% | Value: 0.85x
Why Blinkers off first time is the sort of tweak that can wake one up, and he's got the soft-track form to cope if the rain keeps thumping the surface. Needs a decent run from the gate, but he's one of the few here with a plausible path.
2. Encampment (No.3) - $3.90 / $1.72
Bet $4.50 Place, return $7.74
Prob 15.0% | Place: 53.0% | Value: 0.83x
Why He looks the most straightforward of the bunch - decent alley, gets a run, and doesn't need a miracle to be there when they straighten. Not flashy, just the sort that can nick a result while the others are mucking around.
3. Maxis Legacy (No.4) - $5.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.9% | Place: 47.2% | Value: 0.84x
Why The backmarker profile gives him a shot if they overdo it, but in a big field maiden you don't want to be relying on half the pack making a mistake. Better as a saver in exotics than a straight punt.
Roughie: Shartae (No.11) - $9.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 29.1% | Value: 0.95x
Why First starter with a couple of gear tweaks, which means the stable has clearly tinkered, but this is still the sort of race where debutants can either jump like a rocket or look like they've been tied to the fence. No betting frenzy from Punty's chair.
Race 3 - The Punty Lottery
Race type: BENCHMARK 50, 1065m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo, with a few leaders carving it up but not enough pressure to completely fry the front
Punty read: Here's the race where you can make a case for half the field and still feel like you've got a solid argument after a beer or six. The favourite Witch Of November is short enough to make me itch, especially with the layoff and the wide-ish setup. Hells Son brings experience and a soft-track tick, Cassimir is the beauty-priced roughie if you like the value story, and O'reg and Kgalagadi are the sort of old hard-trying types that can hang around if the race becomes a war of attrition. But Punty's not forcing a bet here - this is a "watch the movie, don't buy the popcorn" race.
Top 3 + Roughie ($0.00 pool)
1. Cassimir (No.2) - $19.00 / $4.40
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $142.50 (wins) / $33.00 (places)
Prob 13.3% | Place: 43.6% | Value: 3.31x
Why If the race falls into a proper scrap and the favourite doesn't fire, this is the one that can pounce late at a big number. Needs a bit of luck, but the price says you're being paid for the risk.
2. Hells Son (No.1) - $8.50 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 40.0% | Value: 1.33x
Why Fresh horse, handy enough record in the mud, and he can keep himself in the picture if the leaders go soft. Still, the dividend isn't quite where Punty wants to get involved.
3. Witch Of November (No.7) - $4.60 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.2% | Place: 34.9% | Value: 0.61x
Why The market loves it and the setup isn't hopeless, but Punty hates taking skinny odds in a race where the map has more holes than a dodgy Bunnings esky.
Roughie: Densetsu (No.4) - $10.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 29.8% | Value: 1.11x
Why If the interference excuse holds water and he can settle in the first four without getting dragged into a brawl, he's got a sneaky upset profile. Still, this is a race to keep the wallet zipped.
Race 4 - The Banker's Playground
Race type: BENCHMARK 74, 1200m
Map & tempo: Hot pace, with a stack of leaders likely forcing the issue and setting it up for the right horse to have the last crack
Punty read: This is the race where the meeting can get a proper spine. Bide Your Time looks the one - maps beautifully, has the right sort of tempo in front of him, and on a day where track position matters he's the bloke with the ticket to the front gate. Copperfield is the big price danger if the market shove is real and the nose roll wakes him up, while Getty is the roughie with a pulse if you want one that can stalk and pounce. Before The War and Fourthtimelucky are honest enough, but the setup isn't as kind to them as it is to the favourite. If you're looking for the race to build around, this is it.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Bide Your Time (No.4) - $2.45 / $1.25
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), return $12.86 (wins) / $6.56 (places)
Prob 24.5% | Place: 75.9% | Value: 0.76x
Why He's the one with the map and the class of the race. If he gets rolling without spending the petrol tank too early, they'll need a bloody good run to run him down.
2. Fourthtimelucky (No.8) - $4.00 / $1.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.8% | Place: 47.8% | Value: 0.65x
Why Honest old bugger, but the market's already got him where it wants him and the place price doesn't get Punty out of bed.
3. Before The War (No.2) - $4.80 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.8% | Place: 41.5% | Value: 0.66x
Why Has the right sort of profile to sit just off the speed, but the value's not there and the race shape screams "someone else gets first use of the chop-out".
Roughie: Getty (No.5) - $10.00 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.8% | Place: 41.4% | Value: 1.37x
Why Nose roll first time and a bit of market love - if that's the right sort of poke from the stable, he can absolutely lob into the finish. The snag is you've still got to beat the blue-chip on top of the map.
Race 5 - The Staying Scrag
Race type: BENCHMARK 50, 1800m
Map & tempo: Moderate tempo, but with enough pressure up front that the leaders won't be able to loaf
Punty read: This is the sort of race that eats punters for breakfast and asks for seconds. Time For Snow is the shortie, but the map isn't screaming "free money" and the drift on a few others tells you the market's not exactly in love with the field. Soul Taker, Chebici and Mayfair Hotel are the value side of the ledger if you want to have a nibble, while Danish Hussar is the one pace angle that can make a mess of things if he gets an easy enough roll. Burning Sensation and Special Prophet have both been on the drift and that usually means someone somewhere has had a proper sniff and stepped away from the trough. In other words: chaos.
Top 3 + Roughie ($0.00 pool)
1. Soul Taker (No.9) - $10.00 / $3.30
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $75.00 (wins) / $24.75 (places)
Prob 8.3% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 1.65x
Why Blinkers off and pacifiers on can sharpen him up, and if the race gets messy late he's one of the few that can pick his way through the wreckage. But Punty's not chasing the market into the deep end here.
2. Chebici (No.4) - $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 23.1% | Value: 1.58x
Why Backmarker with a bit of closing ability, which is handy in a race where they might string themselves out and then collapse in a heap. The issue is the price isn't enough to force the play.
3. Special Prophet (No.7) - $4.00 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 22.4% | Value: 0.61x
Why Big drift, ordinary map, and not enough in the form line to make Punty reach for the wallet. Might still hang around if they crawl, but that's not a bet - that's a hope and a prayer.
Roughie: Mayfair Hotel (No.11) - $13.00 / $4.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.0% | Place: 19.4% | Value: 1.56x
Why There's a sneaky route to the finish if the tempo stings them and the hot stable form holds up, but this is still a proper "if the race falls apart" job. Respect, not a reach.
Race 6 - The Jungle Sprint
Race type: CLASS 1, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, and with the speed map loaded it could get ugly fast
Punty read: This is the last-race wild west. Screen Spirit is the one the market has absolutely mugged and shoved into the front of the market, but the map is tricky with the wide draw and pace pressure; Soho Princess and Harry Devil also have support, though both are facing their own little set of headaches. Simone's Choice is the one Punty wants on the ticket because the race should set up for a horse that can take a breath, settle, and launch late with the claim helping. Deebaa and Roullottie are the sort of prices that can haunt you if you ignore them, while Sogeri's gear change says the stable's trying something different after a fair few misses. This is one where the right ride matters more than the loudest cheer in the betting ring.
Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)
1. Simone's Choice (No.3) - $5.00 / $2.00
Bet $8.50 Each Way ($4.25W + $4.25P), return $21.25 (wins) / $8.50 (places)
Prob 9.5% | Place: 30.2% | Value: 0.68x
Why She's awkwardly drawn but has the right sort of profile for this sort of race if Teaghan Martin can get cover and save the petrol. The hot tempo can make her look a lot better than the bare market price suggests.
2. Screen Spirit (No.4) - $3.20 / $1.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.8% | Place: 28.1% | Value: 0.40x
Why The market's hosed into him and you can see why, but the price has been chewed to bits and there's not enough of a cushion left for Punty to get excited. Good horse, ugly juice.
3. Sectors (No.5) - $8.50 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.4% | Place: 24.3% | Value: 0.91x
Why Fresh horse with a decent enough profile, but this is a nasty map and the soft ground means he needs things to unfold exactly right. Not the sort of race to be hunting a thin edge.
Roughie: Roullottie (No.15) - $23.00 / $5.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 23.6% | Value: 2.38x
Why If the leaders are cooking each other and he can get into the race without wasting petrol, he's the sort that can run over the top late. Roughie with a path, but not a banker.
SEQUENCE LANES - SINGLE OPTIMISED TICKET
QUADDIE (R3-R6)
Smart: 2,1,7,6 / 4,8,2,5 / 9,4,7,15 / 3,4,5,15 (256 combos x $0.14 = $36) - 25% flexi
Four open legs, no free lunches, and the whole thing lives or dies on not getting mugged in one of the chaos races. This is a proper sweat ticket, not a Sunday stroll.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - The soft-track shape matters more than the raw form line
On a Soft 6 with showers hanging around, the horses that can hold a spot and keep trucking are the ones to respect. That's why the map horses in Race 4 and the softer-ground types in the better lanes get extra love.
2 - The market's telling you where the smoke is, but not always where the fire is
Tristania, Larkin, Simone's Choice, Screen Spirit and Harry Devil have all seen serious cash. Some of that is genuine intent, some of it is punters chasing their tail like a dog on a polished floor. Follow the support when the map also agrees - don't just chase steam for the sake of it.
3 - The roughie lane is ugly today unless you pick your spot
Races 3 and 5 are full-blown traps where the numbers say "be careful, mate". If you want a roughie that can actually win, you need either a map edge or a collapse up front - otherwise you're just donating to the bagman in a nice coat.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Wagga's served up a card with a couple of proper anchors and a stack of races that could go pear-shaped in a heartbeat. Keep your chin up, trust the shape, and don't let the tab bully you into a bad bet because it sounds exciting at the pub. Gamble Responsibly.
