✓ WON +$14 Final

Race type: Benchmark 65, 2200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, staying grind, position becomes everything on Heavy 10
Punty read: This is a "you can't be too cute" 2200m. With a slow tempo, the first question is who can hold a rhythm without losing ground in the kick. Koyama keeps getting traffic excuses and the weight's a little warm, but on Heavy 10 over this distance, the ones who can keep buying ground late are the ones that get the medals. The big threat is On The Rivet, also a staying type that can run on, while She's So Reliable has the placings written all over her if the pace stays stingy. If the race turns into a swamp, Wild Jakkal is the sort that can roll forward late and make you feel clever for five minutes.

Top 3 + Roughie ($4.00 pool)

1. Koyama (No.1) — $4.40 / $1.70 🏆 WINNER
Bet $4.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$13.60
Prob 19.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.10x
Why Slow race, Heavy 10 staying trip, and those "held up, bumped" excuses were the kind that cost momentum. This looks like the sort where she finally gets clear air late.

2. On The Rivet (No.5) — $4.40 / $1.72 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.9% | Place: 46.0% | Value: 0.85x
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. She's So Reliable (No.8) — $7.00 / $2.35 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 45.1% | Value: 1.30x

Roughie: Wild Jakkal (No.9) — $11.00 / $3.00 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 1.03x
Why If there's a traffic mess or the speed collapses, he's the kind of late-lurching sort that can swoop into the placings and occasionally shock them.

✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, short sprint where clean beginnings matter
Punty read: This maiden on a Heavy 10 is all about early position and not wasting petrol in the first 200m. Torchem is the betting magnet for a reason, and when a horse is set up like this, she's the one you want switching off into the race and then knifing late. Big Tuki and Autumn Breeze are the danger zone, especially if the leaders grind and don't sprint away. The rougher vibe is My Girl Alice, but I'm treating that more like a value angle than a "bang goes the siren" call.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Torchem (No.12) — $4.60 / $1.90 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 27.1% | Place: 51.9% | Value: 1.41x
Why The heavy-track profile fits, she's built for a straight run to the finish, and the market support says they're not bringing her here for a look.

2. Big Tuki (No.8) — $6.20 / $2.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.77x
Why A real chance — but at $2.40 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.

3. Autumn Breeze (No.1) — $6.50 / $2.40 🏆 4TH

Roughie: My Girl Alice (No.6) — $10.00 / $3.30 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.3% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.69x
Why Wide draw types can get momentum late, but this is still a sprint where you want to be in it early. If she's good, it's by stealth.

✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, better chances for runners who can keep position and accelerate off the corner
Punty read: Maiden 1400m, genuine pace, Heavy 10. This is where a horse can look ordinary early, then suddenly decide it's the only one that can handle the finish. Nika Deloire is the one I want because she's got that "time to arrive" profile, and the finish looks within reach. Wyndstruck can be a sneaky place play if she gets clear. But if you're chasing upside, the race has plenty of room for others to run on, especially the right track-position horses like Angel's Army and Shes So Flash.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Nika Deloire (No.8) — $3.10 / $1.52 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 29.8% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.89x
Why Short enough that the win is the point, and the Heavy form and finish setup are doing the job. When a favourite gets the right run, you cash.

2. Wyndstruck (No.1) — $6.40 / $2.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 40.6% | Value: 0.84x

✓ WON +$17 Final

Race type: Open handicap, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, midfield pressure, clean runs needed to finish powerfully
Punty read: This is a two-fight handicap. One fight is for position in the middle, the other is for who can still kick when the tempo stays slow. Smiling Eyes is flying under the radar at $1.75, which tells you she's likely to keep being involved, but I'm not ignoring the challengers. Delmonico has the wet-track look and keeps running for the money, and Proudtobehere is a solid place weapon with enough class to keep grinding. Taramea Lad is the roughie risk, only because at Heavy 10 the right kind of backmarker can still find a seam.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Smiling Eyes (No.8) — $2.30 / $1.17 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$16.90
Prob 34.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.81x
Why You don't back short-priced unless you trust the run, and this one's profile suits the grind. Heavy 10 and a slow tempo usually rewards the ones that can stay balanced.

2. Proudtobehere (No.7) — $4.90 / $1.62 🏆 2ND

✓ WON +$28 Final

Race type: Benchmark 75, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, stay-in-touch game, who can hold position wins more often than you'd think
Punty read: This 1400m is a "don't get caught too far back" benchmark battle. Santita at $2.25 is the classiest look, and she's the kind that can still get the job done when the front doesn't go hard. Perfect Tycoon and Hollyhockaroo are live for the quinella and the place, especially if one of the midfield lanes opens late. Sacred Mist is the value roughie type, the one who can earn a big cheque if the race fractures.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)

1. Santita (No.9) — $3.30 / $1.57 🏆 WINNER
Bet $12.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$27.60
Prob 27.4% | Place: 59.3% | Value: 0.85x
Why On a wet track, the strongest machine is the one that keeps working. Santita profiles like she can keep going when the leaders tire.

2. Hollyhockaroo (No.10) — $6.00 / $2.10 🏆 4TH

✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Benchmark 65, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, open chaos but you still want a horse with a real finish
Punty read: This one's a proper "Heavy handicap roulette" situation. Miss Pearl is the standout for place leverage because she keeps the rhythm and has the turn-of-foot when the track is playing up. Marcus Attillus profiles well off the wet grind and could easily take a spot if the race stays tight. Fourofus is a value grinder that can hang around close enough to salute if the leaders fade at the same time.

Neednoman is your roughie, and that's the whole vibe: you only need one collapse at the right time and he's rolling through gaps like a villain in a Marvel movie.

Top 3 + Roughie ($9.50 pool)

1. Fourofus (No.4) — $6.00 / $2.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $9.50 Each Way ($4.75W + $4.75P) — ✗ Lost, net -$9.50
Prob 13.6% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.23x

2. Miss Pearl (No.3) — $9.50 / $3.10 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.31x

✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Open handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, speed pressure is real and position from the start matters
Punty read: 1200m and genuine pace on Heavy is where the wrong leader can get cooked early. The Princie One looks like she's got the gas to be prominent, and when she settles, she's hard to peg back. Better Shared and Hakadecree are the ones that can keep pressure on and still be there at the line. Sir Sterling can be a sneaky in the mix if he finds clear air, but this is mainly a three-horse story for places, with the main one doing the leading.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

Race type: Benchmark 65, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, short sprint, start and control position to the line
Punty read: Hammer is the main act, and with the rail out and Heavy 10, you want a horse that can keep moving without getting stung by the muck. Azilee Star is the value play type, the one that can take advantage if the pace scenario stays in her favour. Ripa Time is the classic "looks dangerous but you need the right run" character, and Ocean Boulevard is the roughie with enough ability to pop up if the field chops and changes.

Top 3 + Roughie ($3.50 pool)

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Wingatui on a Heavy 10 where the track's basically doing soft-serve. It's overcast, rain's lurking, and every race feels like a "keep the wheels on" exercise. So we go hunting for horses that can still hold their ground when the turf turns into porridge.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Wingatui, 1200-2200m card
Rail: Out 4.5m
Official going: Heavy 10 (expected to play Fairly Fiddly, front runners still get a crack)
Weather: Overcast, heavy rain risk (watch for late track chop and chaos in the run home)
Early lane guess: QUADDIE heavy, with a splash of wet-track gate advantage
Tempo profile: Slow early, then it grinds, with staying power and position critical late.
Jockeys to follow:
Triston Moodley: keeps landing on the right horses in these wet, grindy races
Alyssa Parris: when she gets cover on a Heavy, she can still poke through for a cheque
Tom Wigram: good at getting them organised when the track is trying to trip everyone
Stables to respect:
Kelvin Tyler (various runners): the "we'll be there when it counts" type on heavy days
R C Dennis (various runners): fast movers early and they survive the mud well
L A Beck (various runners): clean lines to the finish, especially with pressure up front

Punty's take: This is one of those Wingatui cards where the speed map matters more than people think. With a Heavy 10 and rail out 4.5m, you want runners that can either sit close without burning, or come wide late with enough fuel left to sprint through the slop. If you're too far back and the field stays bunched, you get parked in the mud, simple as that.

I'm building today around three main problems to solve. Race 1 is staying-grind heavy, Race 3 is wet two-turn baby steps where the place dividends can be huge, and Race 2 is all about hitting the right maiden rhythm early. After that, it's a whole heap of "get the right position and don't throw the saddle away" energy through the card.

What it means for you: My plan is straightforward, we lean into place leverage and we don't overthink the short-price stuff unless the market's giving you a reason. The value on the Heavy days tends to show up when someone is overbet for the wrong reasons, or when a horse's been trapped behind traffic and finally gets a smoother run.

Bet like you mean it in the races where the shape looks right. Protect yourself in the open handicaps by taking the shorter-priced talent for place, then sprinkle a roughie where the risk is "it wins or it runs out of petrol," not "it's doomed from the straight." And yeah, if it feels messy, it's because it is. Wingatui is a wet-weather comedian today, and we're the ones heckling from the front row.
