Punty's take: Heavy 8 at Woodville is the great equaliser, except it also finds ways to punish the horses that go looking for easy runs. So if you're not positioned close enough to the action when the pace crawls, you're basically giving the winner a head start and then begging the others to do miracle work in the last 200m. Slow tempos plus heavy ground equals one thing, momentum is king. You want a horse that can keep traveling, not one that has to get balanced from scratch.
Races 1 and 3 are your "stay calm, pick the one that matches the pattern" bookends, then the card turns into a bit of chaos across the jumping and maidens. The steeple races especially, are where I reckon you get the most payoff if your selection can jump clean and keep galloping through the mud. And in the shorter maidens later in the day, if the market is solid and the horse is placed to stalk, you back it like you mean it, because these Heavy 8 1200m types can absolutely bolt if they get clear.
What it means for you: For me the play is simple, get aggressive where the pace and the market line up, then save your spine for the races where a single horse looks like it has a genuine "race shape" advantage. I'm backing winners in a couple, and I'm not afraid of putting place and each-way style safety where the draw and Heavy 8 grind could trap the favs.
If you want a plan that doesn't turn into a spreadsheet hate-love relationship: keep it tight in the early quaddies, use your lanes where the card screams "same story, different chapter", and don't over-stretch in the races where the field is too even. Today rewards punters who back the right map, not the biggest name with the fanciest marketing photos.
