Bairnsdale on Soft 5 with out 3m is basically "you can't afford to be stuck in traffic, but you can't afford to overcook either". The rail out helps saving ground, but the gusts and showers mean the track can play different pockets. If the leaders sprint early, the backmarkers will come late, but if it turns into a slow crawl, those on-pace types get to coast and still win. You watch for that switch.
Race 4 and Race 8 are your "main character" races. Race 4 is 2200m maiden chaos, but the favourite Chateau Dancer (No.5) has the map and class feel like it's already written. Race 8 is a sprint where My China Plate (No.10) is the clear tempo driver, and with a Soft 5 sprint track, once a leader has the right kick, it's hard to run them down without a good run.
And yes, we've got a Big 3 Multi that's built on the short-priced anchors. That's the spine. If you're chasing dividends, you'll do it the way a decent degenerate does it, stack the likely winners, then spray a couple of roughies in the right races where the pace shapes up for an upset.
What it means for you:
Be aggressive in the races with on-pace lanes and clear tempo. That's where you'll save yourself from the "held up, ran into a brick wall, ruined my night" lottery. Race 1 is open, so don't marry one idea. Still, King Tagaloa (No.7) is the one I want on my ticket because he fits the speed map and the soft conditions.
Then lean into Place where it makes sense, especially when the favourite is likely to be on the speed but may not get an easy run. You'll see me do that across the card with Jourama in Race 2, and with the way the shorties get plenty of "hit the line" opportunities on a Soft 5 sprint track.
If you're only doing one thing today, it's trust the anchors and keep your roughies honest. This is Bairnsdale, the track rewards the horse that doesn't get lost, not the one that looks flash in the first 100m then dies on the bit.
