R1
EPC Solar Hcp (C2)
1206m · HANDICAP · 12:56
✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: EPC Solar Hcp (C2), 1206m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Star Empire pushing the front, Give Me Joy likely to be right there

Punty read:
This is a leaders versus stalkers showdown. Star Empire's trying to control things, and when the leader is structured like that, everyone else has to either match it or sit close enough to sprint off their back. Give Me Joy is the one I want in the pocket, because she's drawn well and should be able to hold a position that lets her use her real running, not just be "around it".

Zou Royal is the market favourite and for good reason, No.5 with the on-pace style can absolutely win if the leaders keep going. But Must Be Sain is drifting and coming off wide or slow-start excuses, so she's the one that can whack on late, especially if the genuine pace forces some premature efforts. Spice Alley is there too, but I'm watching whether she can get the right trip, because on synthetic, wide or exposed early can cost your whole kick.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Give Me Joy (No.1) — $2.60 / $1.37 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 33.9% | Place: 62.2% | Value: 1.07x
Why Speed map fits, rail draw isn't a headache, and she's the sort that can hit the line strong in a synthetic sprint.

2. Zou Royal (No.5) — $2.50 / $1.32 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 31.3% | Place: 62.7% | Value: 0.90x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Must Be Sain (No.2) — $4.40 / $1.82 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.8% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.19x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.

Roughie: Star Empire (No.6) — $23.00 / $4.50 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.4% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.94x
Why If the speed collapses he's in it, but I'm not trusting a soft landing at this price in a tight placing structure.

Tradelink Mitchell Jockey's Celebration Day Plate (C1)
1900m · Class 1; · 13:31
✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Tradelink Mitchell Jockey's Celebration Day Plate (C1), 1900m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, so positioning and staying power matter, Tis No Man can find a rhythm

Punty read:
Slow pace means the race becomes a timing contest. Whoever gets to the right spot without getting trapped starts salivating at the turn. Star Turn Dancer is a valuey sort of play at a short price, but I've got my eyes on the trio with the best "get-positioned" chance.

Tis No Man is the value headline in this one. Winkers first time, and if he moves from midfield to a sit-and-stalk spot early, the straight might arrive sooner than the field expects. Dunwithya is the class of the "should be around it" story, but I'm not chasing the win at $2.50 in a slow 1900 where one wrong corner can leave you eating dirt late.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Star Turn Dancer (No.7) — $2.90 / $1.62 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 28.8% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.06x
Why Slow tempo makes it hard to pass cleanly, and he's the type that can hold his ground and surge at the finish.

2. Dunwithya (No.1) — $2.50 / $1.45 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.2% | Place: 56.7% | Value: 0.83x

ACT Foam & Rubber Mdn Plate
1280m · Maiden; · 14:06
✗ MISS -$20 Final

Race type: ACT Foam & Rubber Mdn Plate, 1280m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, danger is being stuck, winners usually travel into the straight

Punty read:
Maiden over 1280 on synthetic, and it's slow. That's when lanes, balance, and travel matter more than flash form. Cold Mist is the one with the cleanest "if they go slow, she's got a shot" profile. She's been in the mix and should get the chance to run on without needing the sky to fall.

Jenni Moo Moo is there for the place price, because on a slow tempo, if she's anywhere near the action turning for home she can absolutely slot into the money. Texan Star looks like a genuine danger too, and the spread of runners is wide enough that someone can pop up. That's why I'm not getting stuck on a single exact outcome, but I am backing Cold Mist to do the main job.

Top 3 + Roughie ($20.00 pool)

1. Cold Mist (No.2) — $3.40 / $1.45 🏆 2ND
Bet $16.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$16.50
Prob 28.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.27x
Why Slow tempo suits her, and she's the right type to hit the line hard once the field starts drifting.

2. Jenni Moo Moo (No.6) — $4.00 / $1.62 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $3.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$3.50
Prob 17.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.61x
Why She's a danger to beat if she finds clear air, and at this place price you're not paying for a fantasy.

3. Kip Star (No.9) — $5.00 / $1.75 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.01x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Prob 9.0% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.44x
Why Wide runs and excuses before, this one can sneak into the money if things open up in the run home.

Todd Smart Racing (Bm50)
1080m · HANDICAP · 14:41
✗ MISS -$19 Final

Race type: Todd Smart Racing (Bm50), 1080m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Beau Rock is pace advantaged, but leaders still controlling

Punty read:
1080 on synthetic, sprint race, moderate pace, it's basically a tightrope act. If the leaders bunch up early, you need the horse that gets the best clean run, not just the one that's "tough". Sir Lunchalots is the big confidence call for a reason. He's got that leader's rhythm and the setup lines up, so he's going to be hard to run down if he gets rolling.

Geostorm is also the kind of horse that can take the lead and get brave, but today I'm leaning to Sir Lunchalots as the safer "race shape" bet, because he's got that market respect too. Merchant Reign can be a place chance and could snag a cheeky top-three, but I'm not paying for him to win when the top two are set to be live.

Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)

1. Sir Lunchalots (No.2) — $4.50 / $1.72 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $14.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$14.00
Prob 23.4% | Place: 64.3% | Value: 1.33x
Why Leader profile in a sprint, and this looks like one of those races where being first into rhythm wins races on synthetic.

2. Geostorm (No.1) — $3.50 / $1.57 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $5.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$5.00
Prob 19.4% | Place: 54.0% | Value: 0.86x
Why If Sir Lunchalots drifts or gets challenged, Geostorm is the one who can still keep grinding to the line.

3. Merchant Reign (No.3) — $4.00 / $1.65 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 45.9% | Value: 0.85x

Roughie: Prophet Time (No.8) — $11.00 / $3.00 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.8% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.22x
Why Roughie land is for big swings, and I'm not stretching out in this 1080 where positions decide everything.

Duncan's Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning Mdn Hcp
1080m · HANDICAP · 15:16
✓ WON +$26 Final

Race type: Duncan's Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning Mdn Hcp, 1080m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Avalon Lady is the one pace-wise, but La Stiava is ready to pounce

Punty read:
This is a sprint where the slow tempo makes it tricky, because the wrong horse can waste energy early and get cooked mid-straight. La Stiava is the key. She's on pace, and on synthetic with no rain, that means she gets the chance to travel and then finish off without being forced into a premature sprint.

Deeply is the danger and should be around the mark, but I'm not convinced he's got the same "hit the front and hold on" ceiling as La Stiava. Lavender Rose is a freak short price for a maiden handicap, but $1.45 means you're paying for certainty, and I'm only backing certainty when the map and class line up, which in this case, points the other way.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. La Stiava (No.9) — $3.50 / $1.08 🏆 WINNER
Bet $10.50 Win — ✓ Won, net +$26.25
Prob 34.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.54x
Why On-pacer with the right tempo job, and at $3.50 you're not overpaying for a horse that can actually win clean.

2. Deeply (No.4) — $4.40 / $1.12 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 31.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.66x
Why A real chance — but at $1.12 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

TAB Federal Hcp
1080m · Open; · 15:53
✓ WON +$26 Final

Race type: TAB Federal Hcp, 1080m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Cougars and others looking to push, Action King in striking range

Punty read:
1080 with genuine pace is where the "right spot" actually becomes the "right spot", not a fairy tale. Action King looks like he can sit close enough to press and then keep poking through late. It's the kind of race where you don't need to win the whole journey, you just need to be in the picture when the straight starts.

Cougars is the big danger simply because the map wants them up and they've got the speed. But there's also a sense that if Cougars gets forced into too hard early work, Action King can swoop when the field has to do the work. Sunrise Ridge is more for the minors, and Hellinda and Cholante are the chaos options if the pace fractures and the back half starts finishing better than anyone planned.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Action King (No.1) — $2.70 / $1.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$25.50

CBR Electrical Contractors (Bm70)
1750m · HANDICAP · 16:33
✓ WON +$33 Final

Race type: CBR Electrical Contractors (Bm70), 1750m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Onya Lional pace advantage, chaos comes from when the field settles

Punty read:
1750 on synthetic with slow tempo is perfect for horses who can hold position and then accelerate without being stranded. Bombelleistic looks like the one doing the right things early, and at $3.70 it's still respectful, not silly. Flashy Icon is the other big threat because he's got the staying profile and can hit the line strong if the race turns into a tactical grind.

Sunburnt Country is the market fave for a reason, but even favourites in slow races need everything to fall into place. Beauer at a price is sneaky in the placings too, and Remadosi can be right there if the jockey times it perfectly. I'm not chasing longshots to win, I just want the right two or three to control the finish.

Top 3 + Roughie ($19.00 pool)

Bet $14.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$37.80
Prob 29.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.37x

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Canberra Acton's got that synthetic bite, rail's True, and the pace is either a comfy stroll or a straight-up bar fight depending on the race. We're going to treat today like a menu of chances, with the Big 3 spine doing the heavy lifting, and the roughies picking up the tab when the favourite twitches.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Synthetic, 1080m to 1900m card
Rail: True
Official going: Synthetic (expect a speed-friendly surface that rewards a decent position)
Weather: Fine (no rain, so expect the faster patterns to stay valid, and late-milers need to be travelling properly)
Early lane guess: Mid lanes early, wide lanes win late when the field strings out
Tempo profile: Mixed, with plenty of genuine or moderate tempo, meaning those on pace are getting every chance, especially around the shorter trips.
Jockeys to follow:
Quayde Krogh: He's around the mark all day, and when he's on a speed map horse he usually puts it in the right spot.
Brodie Loy: Classic attacker type, and he's been getting the rides where the race shape suits.
Ms Erin Ellison: Her numbers love Canberra style races, and today she's on quality that can stick on.
Stables to respect:
G P Vella (2 runners): Knows how to land a runner at the right time, and their horses show up for the ride.
Greg Stephens (2 runners): When Stephens turns up, the horses are usually race-fit and live late.
B Joseph & P & M Jones (2 runners): They push early support and then let the jockey do the talking.

Punty's take:

This meeting's got that Canberra flavour, the kind where you can't get cute. Rail's True on synthetic, so you want either speed under you, or a plan to sit cool and travel. When the pace is genuine, you back the ones that get first dibs on the straight, because the rest are just hoping for a collapse like it's a movie finale.

Race 1 is the classic early tempo skirmish, with Give Me Joy trying to run the race rather than watch it. But the market's got Zou Royal parked as the fave, and I'm not ignoring that, I'm just saying the race map is the boss here, not vibes. Must Be Sain is drifting and looking like a live value win if things go his way, while Star Empire is the "if the speed goes missing, then okay yeah" roughie.

Then we hit the big spine portion of the card, Race 5 with La Stiava, Race 6 with Action King, and Race 1 with Give Me Joy again. This is the bit where you stop overthinking and just line up behind the horses that look like they'll get the run. Last thing, keep your eyes on gear changes and market firmness, because today's synthetic conditions mean the jockey timing matters a lot, and the market doesn't just tighten for decoration.

What it means for you:

Bet with position and pace in mind. On a fine synthetic day with no weather chaos, when a horse's supposed to be up, it should be up, and those horses keep paying. That's why my aggression is mostly on the ones that can either lead or sit close, then kick, rather than praying for traffic luck.

In the "chaos" races, we still use structure. Race 3 is a maiden where the pace profile can leave you exposed if you pick a horse that needs everything to go right. So I'm going Cold Mist for the win picture, and backing a place angle where it gets chunky without needing miracles. Race 7 looks like a smart speed contest too, so I'm not treating it like a lottery, even if Bombelleistic and Flashy Icon at odds are tempting you into bad decisions.

Alright, now let's get stuck into the good stuff, the Big 3 spine, then race-by-race with the Top 3 and a roughie for each.
