R1
Midfield Meats Mdn Plate
900m · Maiden · 13:35
✓ WON +$16 Final

Race type: Midfield Meats Mdn Plate, 900m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, on-pace types hold the key, then it turns into a late run home test
Punty read:
This is the "who gets into the clear and keeps their legs" race. Hellfire Jess and The Muscle look like the ones who can hold a working spot without burning the horse up early, and Calm The Press is the sort that can get brave when the race opens up. The roughie in Moon Dog Dotty is the classic Heavy 9 lottery ticket, she just needs the speed to collapse enough for late swoopers to rip through.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Hellfire Jess (No.6) — $2.10 / $1.07 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$16.50
Prob 35.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.22x
Why she's in the speed mix and Heavy 9 usually rewards the ones who can keep finding when others are slowing down

2. The Muscle (No.5) — $3.00 / $1.15 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 29.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.29x
Why A real chance — but at $1.15 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Calm The Press (No.1) — $5.00 / $1.50 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.41x
Why heavy ground + pace map means she can run on, especially if she avoids getting boxed in early

Roughie: Moon Dog Dotty (No.4) — $26.00 / $3.60 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.5% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 1.47x
Why if the speed collapses and the track turns into a straight sprint late, she's the one swooping the outside

R2
The Border Watch Mdn Plate
1300m · Maiden · 14:10
✗ MISS -$24 Final

Race type: The Border Watch Mdn Plate, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, chaos comes from who lands comfortable and who gets buried wide in the Heavy*
Punty read:
Longer sprinting in mud, this is where "travels okay" beats "looks good at the start." Piklemegranmother gets the nod because she's got the wet-track profile and the market's backing it, Prince Prestigious is the obvious danger with the right type of early map, and Blackhill Boy is the "gets a spot, pings late, maybe snags a place" story.

Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)

1. Piklemegranmother (No.8) — $3.30 / $1.40 🏆 2ND
Bet $20.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$20.00
Prob 26.4% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.46x
Why Heavy 9 suits her running style and she's in the pocket where 1300m races get won

2. Prince Prestigious (No.5) — $3.00 / $1.35 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $4.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$4.00
Prob 26.0% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.98x
Why she's got the map and gear tweaks that can sharpen her, if she breaks clean she's there

3. Blackhill Boy (No.2) — $3.40 / $1.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.81x
Why he's live enough for the finish, but the win value isn't screaming today

Roughie: Say It How It Is (No.10) — $17.00 / $3.50 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.9% | Place: 17.7% | Value: 0.57x
Why she's an each-way sort in theory, but today the path to winning needs everything to go her way

R3
Minrosa Hcp (54)
900m · Handicap · 14:45
✗ MISS -$4 Final

Race type: Minrosa Hcp (54), 900m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, but this is a sprint where position matters like it owes you money
Punty read:
It's a speed vs punch-up race. Emmooki Magic and the midfield on-pace runners set it up, and Nankeen looks like the sort to keep grinding through Heavy 9 without falling away. Just Like Lisa is the kind of danger who finds space and keeps going, even if she doesn't get the perfect trip. Zuetoro has the gear change story and can pop a run if the front end gives it up.

Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)

1. Nankeen (No.4) — $4.20 / $1.60 🏆 4TH
Bet $6.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$6.00
Prob 22.7% | Place: 63.0% | Value: 1.22x
Why he matches the Heavy 9 grind and should be competitive late if he gets a stalking run

2. Just Like Lisa (No.5) — $4.20 / $1.60 🏆 3RD
Bet $2.50 Place — ✓ Won, net +$1.50
Prob 20.9% | Place: 68.4% | Value: 1.11x
Why she's the type to keep finding when others are getting bogged in the last 200m

3. Emmooki Magic (No.6) — $6.00 / $1.85 🏆 7TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.8% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.36x
Why if the tempo is steady, the leader-stalker here can take the race right up to the line

Roughie: Crackle 'n' Burn (No.2) — $20.00 / $3.60 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.9% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.75x
Why needs a chaotic run where the on-pace shapes weaken early enough for her to run into a gap

R4
Sportsbet (Bm58)
2050m · Benchmark 58 · 15:20
✗ MISS -$7 Final

Race type: Sportsbet (Bm58), 2050m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, the race turns into a test of who can stay balanced and keep accelerating on heavy footing
Punty read:
This is where 2050m in Heavy 9 turns into a patience game. Side Piece is my kind of bet, she's got the profile to handle the grind and not get stranded when the race stretches. Wimmera Star is the big threat because if she parks a spot and doesn't get trapped, she can loom. Fuwari is the one who can improve mid-race, but she'll need the leaders to give her something to chase.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Side Piece (No.1) — $2.55 / $1.22 🏆 5TH
Bet $10.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.00
Prob 26.7% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.85x
Why position plus stamina in Heavy 9, she should be around the mark turning for home

2. Wimmera Star (No.2) — $3.90 / $1.52 🏆 2ND
Bet $5.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$2.60
Prob 26.1% | Place: 59.3% | Value: 1.28x
Why the Value angle is there, and she's capable of getting into the finish from a midfield spot

3. Fuwari (No.4) — $6.00 / $1.85 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.9% | Place: 54.7% | Value: 1.20x
Why she's got the Heavy credentials, but she needs the race to fall her way

Roughie: Dodgy Element (No.9) — $13.00 / $2.90 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.1% | Place: 19.1% | Value: 0.99x
Why if the pace stays slow, backmarkers can still get involved late, but she's more place chaos than win play

R5
Green Triangle Livestock & Real Estate Hcp (54)
1300m · Handicap · 16:00
✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Green Triangle Livestock & Real Estate Hcp (54), 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, tempo likely spreads, and the Heavy 9 finish is all about who stays composed
Punty read:
This looks wide open, and I like it that way because the win profiles are actually spread. Melissa Kate is the one I want: she's got the right on-pace intent and should get the chance to strike without being totally buried. Stargust is the obvious short-priced danger, and Lapilli is the grinder who can run home if he finds clear air. Urbanise is a sneaky late plug if the front end cracks.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Melissa Kate (No.7) — $5.50 / $1.85 🏆 3RD
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 21.6% | Place: 59.0% | Value: 1.51x
Why she maps to go forward and in Heavy 9 that's often the difference between fourth and winning

2. Stargust (No.2) — $2.70 / $1.32 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.5% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.74x
Why A real chance — but at $1.32 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Lapilli (No.5) — $4.60 / $1.70 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.8% | Place: 63.9% | Value: 0.92x
Why capable of sneaking into the finish, just not juicy enough in the current set-up

Roughie: Urbanise (No.9) — $10.00 / $2.70 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.1% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.15x
Why if the leaders flatten and the race strings out, Urbanise can pick them off late

R6
O'Connor & Graney (Bm56)
1550m · Benchmark 56 · 16:40
✗ MISS -$25 Final

Race type: O'Connor & Graney (Bm56), 1550m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Heavy 9 means positioning is everything and the race rewards the horse that doesn't panic
Punty read:
Hidden Bounty is the one I trust the most, straight up. She looks like the sort who can keep travelling and not get knocked off her rhythm. Tallapoosa is next best, but I see him more as a place threat than a main win engine at the price. Robert The Puss has the value pulse because when he gets the chance to hit the line, he can grab a slice of the prizemoney. Surfy Pete is the roughie type, needs the run of the race.

Top 3 + Roughie ($25.00 pool)

1. Hidden Bounty (No.2) — $4.20 / $1.72 🏆 3RD
Bet $21.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$21.00
Prob 21.6% | Place: 61.7% | Value: 1.16x
Why suited to the Heavy grind and should be able to hold her position long enough to lift

2. Tallapoosa (No.10) — $3.80 / $1.70 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $4.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$4.00
Prob 14.9% | Place: 51.4% | Value: 0.73x
Why if the race becomes a tactical slog, he's the sort who can snag a placing

3. Robert The Puss (No.5) — $8.00 / $2.65 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.43x
Why the value is there, and he's got a path to the finish if the pace shapes tire

Roughie: Surfy Pete (No.3) — $10.00 / $3.00 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.6% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.10x
Why needs a clear late run and a bit of carnage to open up a gap

R7
Scott Group of Companies (Bm62)
1200m · Benchmark 62 · 17:20
✗ MISS -$8 Final

Race type: Scott Group of Companies (Bm62), 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, then it sharpens, sprinting on wet ground is brutal
Punty read:
Terralight should get his chance if he gets the right trip, and Halliwell is the exact sort to throw a spanner when the speed shapes get exhausted. Aquaholic has upside too, but she's more "if the race breaks their way" than "bank it." Shout Me is the roughie flyer, can she run down a wall of tired horses? Sure, if the race turns into a late-run stampede.

Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)

1. Terralight (No.6) — $5.50 / $2.05 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $6.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$6.00
Prob 21.4% | Place: 66.3% | Value: 1.54x
Why best blend of wet-handy profile and real late competitiveness, perfect for Heavy 9 1200m

2. Halliwell (No.1) — $5.50 / $2.00 🏆 4TH
Bet $2.50 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$2.50
Prob 16.6% | Place: 62.6% | Value: 1.19x
Why he can keep pressing without blowing out early, and Heavy 9 rewards that steadiness

3. Aquaholic (No.7) — $4.50 / $1.80 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 53.2% | Value: 0.89x
Why can run a big race, but she's not offering enough value in this exact setup

Roughie: Shout Me (No.2) — $13.00 / $3.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.8% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.98x
Why needs everything to keep building and then let her hit the line with momentum

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Mt Gambier Heavy 9 at 900m to 2050m, where every race is basically a slow-motion demolition derby, you can smell the mud from the carpark. Today is about finding the horses that can actually push through the kickback and still answer when the sprint lights go on late.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Heavy 9, 900m to 2050m card
Rail: +5m Entire
Official going: Heavy 9 (expected to play wet and sticky, more "position plus courage" than flash speed)
Weather: Overcast, nil rain last 24hrs, rain only in the recent 7 day lead-in (watch for soft-handling, no miracle hardening)
Early lane guess: Fairly honest early speed, but with Heavy 9 anything in front turns into a minefield, especially mid-pack
Tempo profile: Moderate speed on paper, slow crawl in reality, with the real sprint coming late when the legs start bargaining
Jockeys to follow:
Campbell Rawiller: gets on a few key types and should be suited to the "get a spot, don't overdo it" Heavy 9 game
Luke Williams: clean hands in traffic, and he often gets the perfect one-run-better on wetier days
Dylan Caboche: tends to launch at the right time when others are stuck in cement
Stables to respect:
Andrew Bobbin (2 runners): has multiple pace profiles that can handle slog conditions, and he usually doesn't bring them without a reason
Wayne Walters (4 runners): loves this sort of grind, and he's got horses that can keep finding something under pressure
Scott Whittle (3 runners): targets the right races, and his runners usually handle the early whack of a Heavy deck

Punty's take:

Mt Gambier is the kind of track where you stop thinking "who's fastest" and start thinking "who's going to keep their rhythm when everyone else gets jolted." With Heavy 9 and the rail +5m, I'm expecting it to be a battle of lanes. If you're stuck three deep the whole way, you'll still get home, but you'll do it with your dignity in a body bag.

The meeting shape screams a few "on-pace types" that can land midfield and still hit the run. That's why my spine bets are from the races where the speed is clearly mapped, and the market is already whispering the right story. When the Heavy 9 horses get supported, it usually means the stable has them ticking over properly, not just rolling the dice for fun.

What it means for you:

Be aggressive in the races where you've got a genuine pace lane and your top pick isn't chasing luck from barrier hell. For the other races, you protect. Heavy tracks punish ego, so I'm leaning into Place bets when the top two look like they'll be in the finish, even if the winner turns it into one of those "the rest got held up" specials.

Also, don't overthink the drifters too much. Some runners are easing because they're overbet early, others because the track just makes it harder for certain styles. In this card, I'm using market movement as a confirmation tool, not a dictator. The big money days are for horses that actually match the map, not just the headline.
