✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, Threads and Lorax have the inside edge to the run, with the pace advantage landing around Threads and Lorax.
Punty read: This is a slow tempo 1200m where the soft track can turn "travel" into "survival". Lorax (No.2) is the market's spirit animal here, and honestly that makes sense, they've got the backmarker trip but the race shape is calm enough for her to find the rails lane when others are searching. Threads (No.1) is the other one to respect, especially with those blinkers off and winkers first time, he might finally give them the straight line they've been chasing.

Cantero (No.3) is the chaos gremlin in a good way, because the market's backing everyone, and when these Soft 6 mid-packers start to get clear, place dividends can jump fast.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Lorax (No.2) — $2.22 / $1.30 🏆 4TH
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 39.2% | Place: 66.7% | Value: 1.03x
Why Perfectly positioned for a slow 1200m sprint off the back, and the market's already whispering "this is the one" with the firming.

2. Cantero (No.3) — $6.20 / $2.50 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.5% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 1.43x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Savagram (No.7) — $3.35 / $1.62 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.4% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.77x

Bet Tracked
Prob 8.2% | Place: 18.4% | Value: 0.99x

✓ WON +$27 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, pace advantaged: Sing Your Song and others, but Wanda's Spark is the one who likely controls the "who gets first jump" moment.
Punty read: Wanda's Spark (No.1) has that classic "right in front, right in the race" feel. Barrier 3 on Soft 6 is gold because you can save ground and still roll into a rhythm without blowing your load. The scary part is the market has her the tight favourite, so she's got to do the job, but that also means she's likely to be in the right fight for the place and win.

Sing Your Song (No.2) is your danger in the exacta sense, especially if the field stays slow, because back-to-midfield bunched races create plenty of late traffic and she can just squeeze into the lane at the end.

Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)

1. Wanda's Spark (No.1) — $2.23 / $1.13 🏆 WINNER
Bet $20.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$24.60
Prob 31.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.84x
Why Drawn to get a nice run, Soft 6 usually rewards her style, and the jockey gets to decide how much pressure to apply.

2. Sing Your Song (No.2) — $4.20 / $1.55 🏆 3RD
Bet $4.00 Place — ✓ Won, net +$2.20
Prob 26.1% | Place: 61.0% | Value: 1.30x
Why She's the value place angle, and if the leaders don't sprint away early, she gets the chance to keep grinding through the line.

3. Caloocan Beauty (No.4) — $7.95 / $2.20 SCR
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.2% | Place: 55.5% | Value: 0.96x
Why She can show up in the right race, but today I'm not paying for rank confusion.

Roughie: Private Liaison (No.8) — $14.25 / $2.70 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.7% | Place: 21.5% | Value: 0.96x
Why She's a "if it goes wrong for the right reasons" type, ear muffs first time can help her find something late.

✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1900m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, pace advantaged types include Equinox Legend, Craft, Just Shane, Kumbaya.
Punty read: 1900m on Soft 6, this turns into a tactics playground. Cheval De Bois (No.1) is the backbone, because he's got the right blend of class and temperament to stay in it without doing anything silly early. Slow pace suits a horse that can track the race rather than sprinting through it.

Kumbaya (No.11) is the one I'm keeping in the finish picture, if this develops into a "race within a race" and the speed collapses, she's got a legitimate shot to be around the money. Sister Daae (No.3) looks like the other place threat, especially if the jockey gets the correct gap behind the leaders.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Cheval De Bois (No.1) — $2.03 / $1.25 🏆 3RD
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 37.2% | Place: 56.3% | Value: 0.90x
Why Soft ground and 1900m, he's built for it, and he's the most likely to keep finding runs late.

2. Sister Daae (No.3) — $3.90 / $1.75 SCR
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.9% | Place: 58.2% | Value: 0.97x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

Bet Tracked
Prob 20.3% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.18x

✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1250m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with a bunch of on-pace profiles, while Cando Attitude is the class speed influence and several others sit right there.
Punty read: This is a "who gets their turn into the straight" race. Tigroni (No.12) is on my radar because she's built for the sort of pace that exists here, not too much pressure early, enough for the jockey to time the run. Oakfield Neptune (No.2) is the one with obvious speed, and Written Scandal (No.3) is the grinder that can keep holding position and keep showing up.

Cando Attitude (No.1) is the wildcard that could hold the front or get a perfect run, but with tongue tie first time and Soft 6, anything can happen once they get rolling.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Tigroni (No.12) — $4.50 / $1.75 🏆 6TH
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 19.5% | Place: 53.8% | Value: 1.06x
Why Place leverage is the sweet spot, she should get a run close enough to make the last straight count on Soft 6.

2. Oakfield Neptune (No.2) — $4.10 / $1.70 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.0% | Place: 58.5% | Value: 0.94x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Written Scandal (No.3) — $4.85 / $1.82 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.4% | Place: 51.5% | Value: 1.02x

✗ MISS -$10 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1250m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Rivendell and Ravalli leading the theoretical help, while Monte Veebee and Condone shape the early pressure.
Punty read: This one is about who gets the right stalking position without getting pinned. Rivendell (No.3) is the value win angle and the place threat, because Soft 6 often makes the final 200m the deciding point, and she's the sort that can keep responding. Capture Me (No.8) is the speed influence on paper, but at $2.72 she's the kind of horse where the win is possible, yet the place dividends might be the smarter pathway.

Unstopabull (No.10) is my other key, because he can work through the field late, and if the leaders get tired in the goo, he's the one that can still be doing the work.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Rivendell (No.3) — $4.90 / $1.72 🏆 4TH
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 22.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.32x
Why Big Soft 6 style, and she's got the look of a horse that can stalk then go again when everyone's hitting the wall.

2. Capture Me (No.8) — $2.72 / $1.30 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.1% | Place: 55.3% | Value: 0.73x
Why A real chance — but at $1.30 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.

3. Unstopabull (No.10) — $6.20 / $2.00 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.22x
Why Could absolutely hit the frame, but Rivendell is the one I want doing the heavy lifting.

Roughie: Yoshinobu (No.1) — $14.50 / $3.20 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.0% | Place: 21.4% | Value: 1.06x

✗ MISS -$24 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1100m
Map & tempo: Sprint tempo, pace pressure is on, with Miss Trentino the early speed reference and Shalaa Gold stalking in the right lane.
Punty read: 1100m on Soft 6 is absolute dogfight territory. Miss Trentino (No.5) looks like she wants to be in front, and Tommy Berry on that sort of scenario is a scary combo, especially when the race is tight and you're chasing traction.

But I'm backing Shalaa Gold (No.7) as the value place angle. She's got the style to keep coming, and if she can get a run close enough without being stuck in the mud behind tiring leaders, she can easily grab the cheque even if she doesn't spear the line.

Top 3 + Roughie ($24.00 pool)

1. Miss Trentino (No.5) — $3.50 / $1.50 🏆 5TH
Bet $20.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$20.00
Prob 23.9% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.01x
Why She's got the lead role and the right sprint mindset for Soft 6, and Tommy Berry knows how to land the knock.

2. Inoue (No.1) — $3.05 / $1.35 🏆 4TH
Bet $4.00 Place — ✗ Lost, net -$4.00
Prob 20.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.75x
Why Not value to win, but she's capable of being in the right three, especially if the pace is honest.

3. Shalaa Gold (No.7) — $8.15 / $2.35 🏆 8TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.60x
Why Value is there, but we're not doubling down with a stake that's already outside the best band for this slot.

Roughie: Abuse Of Power (No.8) — $20.75 / $4.00 🏆 6TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.8% | Place: 21.4% | Value: 1.21x
Why If the front goes a touch too hard early and the field opens up late, he can slide into a surprise finish.

✗ MISS -$15 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1550m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, with Anthracite and Barking Mad shaping the early positions and Three Arrows ready to stalk.
Punty read: Barking Mad (No.3) is the classy sprinter-miler type that can control the race. She's the one you fear from the start because she's been showing her ability to be prominent and then keep building. But today I'm locking in Anthracite (No.2) as the main threat, because the market pricing makes sense for her, and she's the sort of horse that survives the Soft 6 grind and keeps giving.

Three Arrows (No.9) is the other one with the right profile for a place and an upset, especially if the pace stays contested and the finish becomes about who still has grip.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Anthracite (No.2) — $4.20 / $1.82 🏆 4TH
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 29.6% | Place: 45.5% | Value: 1.50x
Why She has the look of a strong, patient performer, and with this pace setup, she's got the best run into the last bend.

2. Barking Mad (No.3) — $1.87 / $1.20 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.8% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.60x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.

3. Three Arrows (No.9) — $6.20 / $2.55 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.3% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 1.29x
Why If the race is run honestly and the leaders don't sprint clear, she's live for a top-three finish.

Roughie: Federal Reserve (No.7) — $13.50 / $3.90 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.6% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.75x
Why Needs everything to fall right, but with a pace race and soft conditions, late gaps do appear if you're brave.

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Loose Units, Canterbury on a Soft 6, rail +2m and the track doing its best impression of a sponge cake. That means two things, the early speed matters more than usual, and the horses that can handle getting bogged in for a bit tend to pay you back for sticking around. Let's go make some noise.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Canterbury, 1100m to 1900m card
Rail: +2m Entire
Official going: Soft 6 (expected to play fairly clingy, closer-to-the-line finishes)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 18°C, humidity 39%, wind 24km/h, gusts up to 29.6km/h (watch for the gusts to mess with timing and hold-up moments)
Early lane guess: Get your eyeballs on the on-paces early, then look for the runners that can park just off them.
Tempo profile: Slow to moderate tempo across the card, so the "stuck on the back straight" types are live, if they get running room late.
Jockeys to follow:
James McDonald: sharp weapon on the consistent types, loves a clean ride when the pace is controlled.
Tommy Berry: comes on hard late, and today's soft surface helps horses that can travel then hit the wall.
Chad Schofield: gets them balanced through the sticky stuff, dangerous when there's a pocket of space.
Stables to respect:
C J Waller (8 runners): horses are finishing off when it matters, and when they back one you better listen.
G Waterhouse & A Bott (7 runners): the "trust me" stable group, especially when they stack gear changes for a wetish track.
Peter Snowden (6 runners): steady hands, usually well-drilled, and tends to find the form when the racing is messy.

Punty's take:

This is a Soft 6 day where the race shape basically calls the script. If the pace is slow, the leaders get to ration their energy, and the backmarkers have to rely on getting clear at the right time. So I'm looking for two styles, either a proper position horse that gets a run, or a grinder that saves its best hit for the last 150 and never gets shuffled out of contention.

My spine for the meeting is three main chances that just look like they belong in their races, then we lean into place bets and the sort of roughie that can win when the tempo breaks a certain way. Think "safe enough to sleep on", then "degenerate enough to get excited".

What it means for you:

Be aggressive where the racing looks straightforward. Race 1 and Race 3 are your "let's not overthink it" hunts, both with horses that can camp in the right spots and handle Soft 6 pressure. Race 2 is where I'm happy to take a place-first mindset because the field rhythm is set up for the obvious contenders to be prominent, then it's a question of who keeps getting clear.

From Race 4 onwards, it's a mix of value and disruption. That means keep your bet types sensible, don't force a win into a place race, and for the quaddie style lanes, accept that you're paying for coverage because Canterbury always finds a way to trip the neat tickets. That's racing, you ratbags, enjoy it.
