Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Pace is moderate, Dempsey is pace-disadvantaged, so watch the ON-PACE crew take control early and not get swallowed by the midfield
Punty read:
This one's a classic "who actually wants to be in the race" Maiden. You've got Kotahitanga and Cab Franc ticking tactical boxes, while the rest are either too far out or too inconsistent. Kotahitanga is the type that can sit right where you want on a Good 4, then keep coming when others start peeling out.
Cab Franc is a huge danger because it has the speed to stay involved, and the sectionals profile screams "pay attention" if the race doesn't explode.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Kotahitanga (No.10) — $2.30 / $1.32 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$16.90
Prob 40.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.23x
Why The ON-PACE map fits the track, and it's the one that can make the race simple for the punter.
2. Cab Franc (No.8) — $4.00 / $1.75 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 29.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.57x
Why A real chance — but at $1.75 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Stoneflight (No.13) — $7.00 / $1.75 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 54.3% | Value: 1.20x
Why Better chance than the price suggests, and the race shape might give it the lane to swoop.
Roughie: Via Theresa (No.14) — $13.00 / $2.50 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.41x
Why Wide draw and backmarkers can still sneak into third/fourth if the front group gets sticky and they get a clear run late.
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with In A Tizzy expected to lead, leaders should survive if they hold straight runs
Punty read:
This is In A Tizzy's race to lose. The map has it in front, and in a short sprint at Cranbourne, that's half the job done. Big Kapow and She's Loaded are the ones who can pressure, but at the end of the day, a horse that controls the tempo forces everyone else to run their race, instead of you running yours.
Moz is the value type for place, but for win you want the front to hold together, and with the pace profile, it should.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. In A Tizzy (No.10) — $1.40 / $1.09 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$6.00
Prob 60.2% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.08x
Why LEADER map in a sprint, should get a smooth trip and keep poking the front.
2. Big Kapow (No.1) — $5.00 / $1.82 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.5% | Place: 46.8% | Value: 0.40x
Why A real chance — but at $1.82 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. She's Loaded (No.12) — $8.50 / $2.65 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.01x
Why Better as a place play in a race that might stay tactical.
Roughie: Moz (No.3) — $19.00 / $3.90 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.9% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 1.12x
Why If it finds an inside seam late, it can sneak into the finish while the placegetters sort themselves out.
Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so midfield grinders have time to get organised, Qubella and Diamanda shapes dominate
Punty read:
Slow tempo at this trip is Qubella's friend. You want horses that can keep a steady rhythm and pounce when the field finally starts to move. Diamanda is obviously dangerous because of the overall form profile, but this is the kind of race where the "right" one gets to be in control without needing heroics.
Epicus is the classic "value if it gets a lane" type, and Italian Informant is the one for the roughie punt if it gets room.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Qubella (No.2) — $2.63 / $1.40 🏆 3RD
Bet $7.50 Each Way ($3.75W + $3.75P) — Cashed, net -$2.25
Prob 36.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.09x
Why Tongue tie first time and the map suits, it should be in the right part of the pack when it matters.
2. Diamanda (No.1) — $3.02 / $1.45 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 28.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.97x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Epicus (No.4) — $4.60 / $1.80 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 51.7% | Value: 0.86x
Why Better underneath in the trifecta boxy way, it can run on if pace stays slow.
Roughie: Italian Informant (No.7) — $13.00 / $3.50 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.2% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.05x
Why It needs the race to open up late, and slow pace can do that if the midfield starts to scramble.
Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, Optimus is the leader threat, ON-PACE horses should stack up in the finish
Punty read:
This is one of those Maidens where the front runners do most of the talking. If you're stuck back, you're fighting the clock all the way around a 1200m. Ghana's Akan looks like the pick because it matches the early rhythm and has the class profile to actually hit the line.
Youmzaa is a live danger, Julius Maximus is the value third, and See Three Pee Oh is the roughie type if it finds a seam and keeps grinding.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Ghana's Akan (No.9) — $1.95 / $1.15 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 42.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.81x
Why ON-PACE map, fast early claims, and it should get first run at them in a genuine pace race.
2. Youmzaa (No.12) — $2.30 / $1.25 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 30.7% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.08x
Why A real chance — but at $1.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Julius Maximus (No.3) — $12.00 / $2.20 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.19x
Why If you get a speed collapse, it can slot into the placings like a thief in the night.
Roughie: See Three Pee Oh (No.6) — $21.00 / $3.20 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.8% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.45x
Why It's the kind that can pick up late if the pace is real and the front group starts to spread.
Race type: Handicap, 1000m
Map & tempo: Sprint, moderate pace, on-pace gives you the best map advantage, especially with a good straight run
Punty read:
1000m at Cranbourne is a "who's quickest out of the turn and who's not stuck" job. Blue Humma is the one I want because it has the pace and the profile that suits this trip. Presscode is the main threat on form, Fehmarn is the grinder that can run into it, and Don't Russia is there for the upset if it finds clear ground.
If you're backing off-pacers today, you're doing it with your heart, because the tempo doesn't do them favours.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Blue Humma (No.5) — $3.65 / $1.62 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $10.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$10.50
Prob 28.7% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 1.16x
Why Fast enough early to hold a spot and good enough to keep battling when the race tightens.
2. Presscode (No.3) — $4.65 / $1.80 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.7% | Place: 54.4% | Value: 1.14x
Why A real chance — but at $1.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Fehmarn (No.2) — $5.60 / $2.05 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.20x
Why Needs the race to set up, and I'm not overpaying for that.
Roughie: Egerton (No.8) — $9.00 / $2.20 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.1% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.89x
Why Backmarker roulette, if gaps open late it can grab a slice.
Race type: Handicap, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace, so leaders get to keep lengths, and the midpack needs to be ready to take the next spot
Punty read:
This is a proper 1600m handicap where the finish is decided by who gets the right trip, not who has the prettiest form line. Hydrothermal is the favourite for a reason, Island Boy has been getting market attention, and Rockzino is the steady threat that keeps running on.
The reason I like this race is the place-leverage angle. If the front line goes on, you're building your trifecta and quinella without overcommitting to the win price.
Top 3 + Roughie ($11.50 pool)
1. Hydrothermal (No.7) — $3.30 / $1.57 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $11.50 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$11.50
Prob 19.2% | Place: 52.2% | Value: 0.70x
Why It's got ON-PACE positioning and the type of form that wins midfield-to-front races.
2. Island Boy (No.2) — $5.50 / $2.10 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.10x
Why A real chance — but at $2.10 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Rockzino (No.8) — $5.00 / $1.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.9% | Place: 48.9% | Value: 1.01x
Why If the pace holds, it gets every chance, just not the win value I want today.
Roughie: Left Hook (No.10) — $13.50 / $3.30 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.15x
Why Needs a tactical run, but if it parks close and the leaders tire, it can sneak into the finish.
Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, leaders are the main dangers, but ON-PACE horses can still steal it if they hit the turn right
Punty read:
This is an Open where the big guns can still get flanked. Bustling has the best blend of place profile and tactical trip, Behaviour is a value runner who can run into it, and Ndola is the "classy veteran who gets a say" type.
La Fracas is the roughie you want to watch, because synthetic hoof filler can lift them when they hit the line. It's the type of gear change that turns "maybe" into "why did I not bet it?"
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Bustling (No.7) — $2.54 / $1.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 28.9% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.83x
Why ON-PACE and should be in the right spot to take control when others start to fade.
2. Behaviour (No.12) — $5.35 / $2.00 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.3% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.78x
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Ndola (No.1) — $8.40 / $2.40 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.08x
Why Has the form to threaten, but I'd rather keep the stake on the main win lane.
Roughie: La Fracas (No.6) — $7.50 / $2.65 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.90x
Why If the field opens up late, the filler and backmarker style can land right in the top three.
Race type: Open, 2025m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so it's about who can keep energy late, midfield and backmarkers can win if they save ground
Punty read:
This is the kind of Open where Ocean Bay is built for the finish. It's back in the pack, but at 2025m with slow tempo, you get the chance to hit the lane late without being stuck three-wide with no cover. Sapphire Siren is the one that might control the earlier portion, but it's the finish where the race really gets decided.
Wolfess is an underrated place threat, and Pariah Pearl can pop up if the map ends up kinder than expected.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Ocean Bay (No.2) — $3.70 / $1.62 🏆 WINNER
Bet $7.50 Each Way ($3.75W + $3.75P) — ✓ Won, net +$12.45
Prob 29.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.22x
Why Backmarker advantage in slow pace, then it's got the kick to get involved late.
2. Sapphire Siren (No.3) — $2.50 / $1.30 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 28.3% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.84x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Sun Gift (No.1) — $7.20 / $2.05 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.93x
Why Can place if the race doesn't turn into a sprint to the line, but win isn't the angle.
Roughie: Pariah Pearl (No.4) — $5.50 / $1.95 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.73x
Why Needs pace to stay slow and the lanes to open, but it's got the profile to sneak into the finish.
Race type: Handicap, 1300m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so it's about building positions and not getting trapped, ON-PACE types get a say
Punty read:
Aradeo looks like the best horse in the race on form, but the key is how the 1300m shakes out. This is a "sit close enough and wait" handicap. Too Tough and Vaderlee are the outsiders who can roll forward, while Illuminance is the one who can grind into it if timing is right.
Master Of The Air has the profile to run a big race, but Aradeo just looks like it has less question marks going into the finish.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Aradeo (No.9) — $2.35 / $1.32 🏆 WINNER
Bet $13.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$17.55
Prob 33.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.93x
Why Has the class and the map style that wins slow-tempo 1300m handicaps, should be there at the right time.
2. Too Tough (No.5) — $9.40 / $2.40 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.5% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.05x
Why A real chance — but at $2.40 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Vaderlee (No.8) — $9.40 / $2.50 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.06x
Why Needs the race to open, then it can finish over the top.
Roughie: Illuminance (No.6) — $11.00 / $2.60 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.7% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 0.80x
Why It's got enough class to get involved late, especially if runners in front tire and lanes appear.

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Cranbourne's running as a Good 4 with the rail out 3m entire circuit, so it's basically a giant cue ball, steadying everyone into lanes that actually matter. If you're not on speed early you'll be doing hard yakka in the straight, and if you are on speed, you better hope the race shape doesn't turn into a carpark.
Stalls are getting a say today, because this track rewards rhythm, and the tempo today is leaning "moderate to slow", which means leaders get to build momentum instead of doing a full sprint for their lives. When pace is controlled, the value hides in the horses that either map to sit close, or have the late burst that still lands at the finish without needing a miracle.
My spine for the day is three horses that look like they've been pointed at today, with a Multi that's basically the cleanest "win lanes only" version of risk you'll see on a Thursday. From there it's race-by-race chaos, with one roughie in each race that can absolutely embarrass your spreadsheet.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Cranbourne, Middle distance m card
Rail: Out 3m Entire Circuit
Official going: Good 4 (expected to play a Speed vs Stamina blend, closer horses get the gun)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 24°C, humidity 40%, wind 25km/h NNE (watch for gusts, and for any late track whimper from the rain cloud)
Early lane guess: Runners mapped to ON-PACE/LEADER, then the late closers who can roll without being buried
Tempo profile: Moderate to Slow, so position early is king, not sprint speed
Jockeys to follow:
Ethan Brown: getting booked for a stack of chances across the card, and he's usually pretty alive early
Daniel Stackhouse: steady operator, tends to land in the right spots when the race shape asks for it
Jamie Mott: shows up often, and when she lands on the pace, she's hard to run down
Stables to respect:
Ben, Will & Jd Hayes (7 runners): these are the kind that bring the right horse on the right day, especially first-up profiles
M Price & M Kent Jnr (5 runners): strong hand in Maidens and Open company, and their horses don't waste runs
Gavin Bedggood (4 runners): nice at getting them ready and having them there when the tempo suits
Punty's take:
Cranbourne today is one of those meetings where "good enough" isn't good enough. If you're wide and midfield, you can spend the whole race looking at horses' backs like you owe them money. The rail's out 3m too, so the inside isn't a cheat code, it's just a lane that might get you trapped.
I'm leaning hard on horses with clear tactical maps, especially the ones labelled ON-PACE and LEADER in the speed picture. That tempo angle matters more than flashy form lines, because slow races at Cranbourne tend to punish anyone who's too far back early.
Track-wise, the Good 4 means the best tactical horses hold their spot. If a horse is drifts in the market but still maps to be in range, that's when I get interested. But if the market firms and the horse doesn't look like it's meant to be involved, I'll watch it from the pub like a coward.
What it means for you:
Bet with intent. Where my picks map to be near the front, you can trust the ride. Where the roughies come from, you're backing the chaos route, usually either via a better running lane than expected or via a race shape that turns into a sprint for the last third.
For the Multi spine, you can treat it like a "3 out of 9 races" insurance policy, the clean ones that look like they've got the pace and the class to do their job without needing everything to fall perfectly.
In the Quaddie/Big 6 lanes, I'm going skinny where the standout shapes are obvious, and I'm widening where the race shape could turn ugly. That's the whole game, make the ticket survive the races that go "fast early, fast finish" and still have enough coverage for the ones that play out like a tactical chess match.
