Rightio Loose Units, eight races at Cranbourne on a Good 4, fine skies, nil rain and gusts of 27.8km/h to keep the hats on. The speed is thick in a few spots and thin in others, so this one rewards the punters who read the maps before they read the odds. Grab a coffee and let's get into it.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Cranbourne, 955m to 2025m card
Rail: True Entire Circuit
Official going: Good 4 (rainfall nil)
Weather: Fine, gusts 27.8km/h
Early lane guess: Unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Moderate pace in Races 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7, with the speed crowded in Race 6. Genuine pace in Races 2, 3 and 8, where the midfield and backmarkers should get a sniff.
Jockeys to follow:
Blake Shinn: Six rides today and he is on Cashout, my Race 4 banker and the Big 3 horse at $1.65. He also rides Bajaria in Race 3 and Geneva in Race 8, so he is busy where the value is.
Jamie Mott: Seven rides, including Myhro's Ruler in Race 1, Regal Zeus in Race 5 and Two Wolves in Race 8 at $4.40. He is the bloke who gets the horses into the right spot.
Luke Cartwright: Five rides and he claims 1.5kg on several of them, including Shaalute in Race 4 and Tennessee Spirit in Race 6. Light weight on a backmarker can be the difference in a finish like this.
Stables to respect:
C Maher (6 runners): Angels Fury and Lady Catalina in Race 1, Killenaule and Covert Thinking in Race 2, Ten Commandments in Race 5 and Flying Valley in Race 8. Six runners across the card means they are going to be hard to ignore.
M M Laurie (4 runners): Shaalute in Race 4, Magnabelle Royale in Race 6, and Imperial Award and Interest Point in Race 7. Four runners and two of them are ON-PACE or LEADER types, so the stable is in the thick of it.
John McArdle (3 runners): Myhro's Ruler in Race 1, Regal Tycoon in Race 4 and Regal Zeus in Race 5. Regal Zeus is 12-6-1 from 40 starts, which is the stable's standout name.

Punty's take: Race 1 is where the speed lives, with Myhro's Ruler and Super Wonder both mapped as LEADER and Angels Fury, Lady Catalina and Handee all ON-PACE behind them. Angels Fury is the banker of the first half, and the quaddie punters can thank him for a short-priced anchor. Race 2 is the one that will make you sweat. Eye For An Eye is the only true LEADER on a genuine pace card, so the tempo looks set up for a closer to swoop, and Killenaule with his blinkers on for the first time is the horse I'd want to be on.

Race 3 is a bit like a Saturday night at the pub, with the gear changes and the market moves all talking at once. Karren has the shortest price and the map to match, but Bajaria and Shystar are ON-PACE too, so it's not a free ride. Race 6 is the chaos race, with nine runners rated ON-PACE and a field full of horses who want to lead. Race 7 looks like a trio race with the favourite Esmahli at $2.90 and two of the midfielders, Onavuitton and Ladhar, sitting right in the frame. Race 8 is genuine pace again, Lim's Bighorn the only LEADER and Two Wolves a BACKMARKER who gets to watch the speed collapse and then pounce.

What it means for you: Be aggressive early. Angels Fury at $1.65 is a short price, but the stake is set and the race is a banker in the sense that he has the best form and the most natural run. Protect your bankroll in Race 2 and Race 6 because the speed is either thin or crowded, and the results will swing hard on how the first 400m plays out. The value is spread across the card, with Cashout and Karren giving us the cheap anchors and Two Wolves and Ten Commandments providing the mid-price earners. Stick to the locked bets, don't chase, and remember that the roughies are for the back half of the day.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Angels Fury (Race 1, No.1) — $1.65
Why Ran 1st, 1st and 9th in his last three starts, the latest being a Caulfield 1100m win on a good track, and he has the map to sit on the speed and pounce. He is first-up but the stable is in form, so the short price is fair.
2 - Cashout (Race 4, No.7) — $1.65
Why Two wins from his last three, including a Pakenham Synthetic 1400m win on 2026-10-02, and his distance record is 3 wins from 4 starts at the trip. Blake Shinn on a moderate pace card with the lead shared by two LEADERs is a very easy trip for an ON-PACE horse.
3 - Karren (Race 3, No.5) — $2.00
Why Won at Bendigo 1300m on 2026-10-04 and has been the mover in the market, drifting in to $2.00. He is ON-PACE in a genuine pace race that has a LEADER in Tango Jewel, so he sits in the right spot to get home.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 5.44 = $54.40

Race 1 – The Valley

Race type: Handicap, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Leaders are Myhro's Ruler (LEADER) and Super Wonder (LEADER). ON-PACE: Angels Fury, Lady Catalina, Senza Nome and Handee. Pace advantaged: Lady Catalina, Super Wonder and Handee.
Punty read: Angels Fury at $1.65 is the bet, and I'm putting $15.00 on him because he is the best-formed horse in the race and he sits behind the speed with the cleanest path. His last three starts read 1st, 1st, 9th, the latest a Caulfield 1100m win, and he's 4kg up in weight, which he should handle. Myhro's Ruler and Super Wonder will push the speed and Lady Catalina is ON-PACE and advantaged, so she'll be the one to chase Angels Fury down. Handee is the sneaky one at $9.00 with the ear muffs on for the first time, and the speed map gives him a crack at the place if the leaders go too hard.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Angels Fury (No.1) — $1.65 / $1.12
Bet $15.00 Win, return $24.75
Prob 41.8% | Place: 61.3% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why Best form in the race and he sits on the speed with a clean trip. First-up with a 2-1-0 first-up record, so he's got every chance to be fit.
2. Lady Catalina (No.2) — $5.00 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Myhro's Ruler (No.3) — $6.50 / $2.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.5% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.14x Steady since tip
Why He's the LEADER and his combo with Jamie Mott has a 13.7% strike rate at 150 from 1095. If he gets an uncontested lead, he will be hard to run down.

Roughie: Handee (No.7) — $9.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.1% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why ON-PACE and advantaged, with a 1-1-0 record and the ear muffs going on for the first time. If the two leaders go hard and Angels Fury doesn't quicken, Handee swoops from the second line.

Race 2 – Chef's Hat

Race type: Handicap, 2025m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Leader is Eye For An Eye (LEADER, but disadvantaged). ON-PACE: Pariah Pearl. Midfield: Killenaule, Covert Thinking, Samuel Langhorne, Flag Flyer, Superstock, Nothingelsematters, Port Philip. Backmarkers: Sarapo, Lauding, Icaro. Pace advantaged: Flag Flyer, Superstock, Just Dance.
Punty read: Killenaule at $3.10 is the horse I'm putting $7.50 on. He has blinkers on for the first time, and his last three starts read 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, with Pakenham Synthetic 2200m, Caulfield Heath 1800m and Sandown-Hillside 1800m all in the book. He's 2kg down in weight and C Maher is running hot with a 16.0% strike rate over the last 100. Pariah Pearl is ON-PACE, has been placed at this trip before, and the rest of the field will be hunting him. Sarapo is the closer with a bubble cheeker on for the first time and the price has come in from $7.00 to $4.80.

Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)

1. Killenaule (No.10) — $3.10 / $1.45
Bet $7.50 Win, return $23.25
Prob 19.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.60x Steady since tip
Why Three straight seconds and a trainer who's running hot. Blinkers on for the first time might sharpen him up, and he's down in weight.
2. Pariah Pearl (No.7) — $7.40 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.8% | Place: 36.3% | Value: 1.24x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.40 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Sarapo (No.12) — $4.80 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why A backmarker on a genuine pace card is exactly where he wants to be. Bubble cheeker on for the first time is a question, but his last-start 2nd at Geelong 1765m is a good sign.

Roughie: Covert Thinking (No.4) — $10.00 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.4% | Place: 32.1% | Value: 0.84x Steady since tip
Why Midfield on a genuine pace card, with a 2kg drop in weight and a Seymour 2000m 4th last start. If the front pair cook each other, she's the one running down the line.

Race 3 – McMahon's Dairy

Race type: Handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Leader is Tango Jewel (LEADER). ON-PACE: Karren, Shystar, Bajaria, Bon Fete. Midfield: All Business, Autumn Slide, Lathlain, Escarpa, Carriedo, She's Pretty Rich. Pace advantaged: Lathlain, She's Pretty Rich.
Punty read: Karren is the one I'm putting $13.00 on at $2.00, and he has the map to be the one who sits closest to the speed. His last three starts are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, the Bendigo 1300m win on 2026-10-04 the latest, and the market has been cutting him from $2.50 to $2.00. The problem is he's ON-PACE in a field with three other ON-PACE horses, so this won't be a stroll. Bajaria will sit behind him and Carriedo is the one who comes late. Escarpa at $14.00 is the sharp roughie to keep an eye on.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Karren (No.5) — $2.00 / $1.14
Bet $13.00 Win, return $26.00
Prob 35.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.71x Steady since tip
Why Won his last start and has the market cutting in. He's ON-PACE, the trip looks tidy, and the trainer and jockey combo stack up.
2. Bajaria (No.10) — $4.20 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.3% | Place: 59.0% | Value: 0.85x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Carriedo (No.6) — $5.00 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.6% | Place: 54.1% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why Sectionals show L600 rank 2 and L400 fastest, so he's the late finisher. A 1-1-2 on good and the combo with Jordan Childs has a 20.1% strike rate over 922 rides.

Roughie: Escarpa (No.4) — $14.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.5% | Place: 30.9% | Value: 0.91x Steady since tip
Why Midfield in a genuine pace race and Daniel Stackhouse is riding. His last start was a 6th at Cranbourne 1400m, and the 4th at Sandown-Hillside 1000m was a bumped and hampered run.

Race 4 – Ladbrokes Tote Win +10% In October

Race type: Handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Leaders are Didn't Miss Many (LEADER) and Regal Tycoon (LEADER). ON-PACE: Romantic Encounter and Cashout. Midfield: Itazura, Mount Bona, Shaalute, Jewel Bay. BACKMARKER: Dark Journey. Pace advantaged: Didn't Miss Many, Itazura, Cashout.
Punty read: Cashout at $1.65 is the bet, and I'm putting $13.00 on him. He's the ON-PACE horse in a moderate pace, he's advantaged by the speed map, and he has a 3-0-0 record at the distance. His last start was a Pakenham Synthetic 1400m win on 2026-10-02, and Blake Shinn rides him, who has a 16.5% strike rate at the track. Romantic Encounter is the one who will try to take him on from the second line, and Regal Tycoon is the leader who might cook the speed a bit.

Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)

1. Cashout (No.7) — $1.65 / $1.05
Bet $13.00 Win, return $21.45
Prob 36.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.60x Steady since tip
Why 1st, 2nd, 1st in his last three starts and the Pakenham Synthetic form is strong. He is ON-PACE on a moderate pace card, and the jockey switch is a non-issue since Blake Shinn is riding.
2. Romantic Encounter (No.2) — $4.60 / $1.52
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.6% | Place: 62.4% | Value: 0.99x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.52 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Regal Tycoon (No.6) — $6.00 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.3% | Place: 54.1% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why LEADER with a 3rd at Cranbourne 1400m last start. The stable is McArdle, who runs a 12.3% strike rate at the track, and the trip should suit a horse who is up front.

Roughie: Shaalute (No.8) — $17.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.0% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.67x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with a 2nd at Bendigo 1400m and the sectionals L600 rank 2. Luke Cartwright claims 1.5kg, so if the speed collapses, he will finish with a flourish.

Race 5 – Mittys Vobis Gold Star

Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Leaders are Regal Zeus (LEADER) and Run Harry Run (LEADER). ON-PACE: Bossy Benita and Racey Casey. Midfield: Ten Commandments, Miss Playlounge. BACKMARKER: Moby Dick. Pace advantaged: none listed.
Punty read: Ten Commandments at $2.85 is the one with the stake, $11.76 on the win, and I like him because the sectionals show L600 fastest, L400 fastest and time fastest in his last start. His latest run was a 5th at Flemington 1400m, but the Ballarat 1600m win on 2026-09-18 is the freshest good run in the field. Regal Zeus is the danger from the lead with 12 wins from 40 starts, and Bossy Benita is the horse who has the speed to take the race from the second line.

Top 3 + Roughie ($11.76 pool)

1. Ten Commandments (No.3) — $2.85 / $1.57
Bet $11.76 Win, return $33.52
Prob 26.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why Sectionals say he is the fastest closer in the race and he handles a middle trip. C Maher is in form, and the 2kg rise in weight is a minor concern.
2. Regal Zeus (No.1) — $5.20 / $2.35
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.09x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Bossy Benita (No.4) — $3.80 / $1.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why ON-PACE with a 1st at Caulfield Heath 1000m on 2026-10-01. T-HOT at 11.0% and the sectional time rank 2 says she runs a bit.

Roughie: Miss Playlounge (No.5) — $26.00 / $5.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 2.5% | Place: 6.9% | Value: 0.64x Steady since tip
Why A middle-of-the-pack horse with L600 rank 3 and L400 rank 3. If the leaders stop and Fred Kersley finds a gap, the 26.00 price is the roughie on the card.

Race 6 – Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge

Race type: Benchmark 78, 955m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Leaders are Speir (LEADER) and Dragon Scroll (LEADER). ON-PACE: You're Two Vain, Castellar, Saluted, Magnabelle Royale, Headbanger, Arisphere, Tennessee Spirit, Fileeta, Just Bolts. Pace advantaged: Castellar, Headbanger, Tennessee Spirit, Fileeta. Pace disadvantaged: You're Two Vain, Magnabelle Royale, Just Bolts.
Punty read: You're Two Vain is the Each Way bet at $4.20, and I'm putting $10.50 on him because he has won his last two starts, a Wangaratta 900m and a Seymour 800m, and the stallion chain has gone on for the first time. The catch is the speed map is crowded, with nine ON-PACE runners and a pace-disadvantage tag against his name, so it won't be a walk in the park. Headbanger is the one at $2.60 the market loves and Tennessee Spirit at $11.00 is the roughie who gets the place if the speed fights itself to a standstill.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. You're Two Vain (No.1) — $4.20 / $1.70
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), collects $30.98 if it wins ($22.05 win + $8.93 place), $8.93 if it only places
Prob 22.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why Two wins in a row at the shorter trips, and the stallion chain on for the first time. The crowded speed is the risk, but he's got the turn of foot to make a race of it.
2. Headbanger (No.7) — $2.60 / $1.37
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.9% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 0.52x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Saluted (No.3) — $6.50 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.5% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why Three straight placings at 1000m and the L600 rank 3. Jockey Logan Bates claims 1.5kg, which helps a horse that is 6kg up.

Roughie: Tennessee Spirit (No.9) — $11.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.0% | Place: 34.3% | Value: 1.21x Steady since tip
Why ON-PACE and pace advantaged, with 1st at Morphettville Parks 1000m and 1st at Ballarat Synthetic 1000m. If the speed collapses, he is the horse that comes off the pace to snare the place.

Race 7 – Ladbrokes Cox Plate

Race type: Handicap, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Leaders are Imperial Award (LEADER) and Sumo Sandy (LEADER). ON-PACE: Nation State, Insain Harry, Shaime, Warrior Within. MIDFIELD: Esmahli, Charming Nic, Interest Point, Santa Ana Moon, Onavuitton, Ladhar, Street Conqueror. Pace advantaged: Interest Point, Santa Ana Moon, Onavuitton, Ladhar.
Punty read: Esmahli at $2.90 is the bet, and I'm putting $10.50 on him. He is the one with form in the book, a 2nd at Flemington 1200m last start and a 2nd at Caulfield Heath 1000m, and the market has moved him from $3.30 to $2.90. He's MIDFIELD, so he's got to pick up ground rather than sit on the speed, but in a moderate pace race that's fine. Onavuitton is the value in the market at $7.00, with the pace advantage and the fastest sectional time, and Ladhar at $9.00 is the one with the best strike rate with the trainer.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Esmahli (No.1) — $2.90 / $1.45
Bet $10.50 Win, return $30.45
Prob 20.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.58x Steady since tip
Why Last start was a 2nd at Flemington 1200m, and the combo with the apprentice is 6 from 15. He is the one with the form and the prices are right.
2. Onavuitton (No.9) — $7.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 33.1% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Ladhar (No.12) — $9.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why Latest start was a 1st at Geelong 1147m, and the T-HOT at 23.0% over the last 100 rides is a flag. He's pace advantaged and the price is generous.

Roughie: Street Conqueror (No.13) — $10.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why Midfield with a 3rd at Cranbourne 1000m last start, and the form is solid at the shorter trips. Lachlan Neindorf can find a gap if the speed sorts itself out.

Race 8 – More From Tote With Ladbrokes

Race type: Benchmark 78, 1600m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Leader is Lim's Bighorn (LEADER). ON-PACE: Makdane, Nation's Call, Flying Valley, Oceana Dream, Geneva, Houdini. MIDFIELD: Virtuous Circle, Wealdstone, Stage 'n' Screen, Glenfinnan. BACKMARKER: Two Wolves. Pace advantaged: Virtuous Circle, Makdane, Flying Valley, Geneva.
Punty read: Two Wolves at $4.40 is the bet, and I'm putting $12.00 on him because he's the BACKMARKER on a genuine pace card, and that's exactly the trip he wants. His form at the Pakenham Synthetic 1600m on 2026-10-02 was a 1st, and his record on good is 3 wins from 5. The Sandown-Hillside 1400m 7th was a held-up run, so the excuse is on the books. Geneva at $6.40 has the pace advantage and the winkers and tongue tie changes, and Oceana Dream at $4.80 is the ON-PACE horse who might collapse if the speed goes too hard.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)

1. Two Wolves (No.7) — $4.40 / $1.80
Bet $12.00 Win, return $52.80
Prob 19.7% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why Backmarker on a genuine pace card, a 1st at Pakenham Synthetic last start and sectionals L600 fastest and L400 fastest. A T-HOT trainer running at 23.0%.
2. Oceana Dream (No.5) — $4.80 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Geneva (No.9) — $6.40 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 39.3% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why Pace advantaged and the sectionals say time fastest. Blake Shinn's combo with the stable has a 25.2% strike rate, and the 2nd-tier trainer's numbers are solid.

Roughie: Houdini (No.11) — $13.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.6% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why ON-PACE with a T-HOT trainer at 22.0%, and the first-up record is 4-0-1-0 in the book. If the speed burns out and Jett Stanley finds a run, the 13.00 price is the one that pays.

SEQUENCE LANES

EARLY QUADDIE (R1–R4)

Smart: 1,2,3 / 10,12,7,4 / 5,10,6 / 7,2,6 (108 combos x $0.3241 = $35.00) -- 32.4% flexi
Punty's take: Angels Fury and Cashout anchor the first and fourth legs, but R2 is wide open and that's where the sweat is. Solid entertainment and a real chance to win a decent chunk of change.

QUADDIE (R5–R8)

Smart: 3,4,1 / 7,1,3,9 / 1,9,12,13 / 7,5,9 (144 combos x $0.3472 = $50.00) -- 34.7% flexi
Punty's take: R7 is the chaos leg with five runners and R5 and R8 are open. A $5 to $10 winner somewhere pays well here, so this is a high-risk, high-reward ticket.

BIG 6 (R3–R8)

Smart: 5,10,6,4 / 7,2,6,4 / 3,4,1 / 7,1,3,9 / 1,9,12,13,8 / 7,5,9,11 (3840 combos x $0.001302 = $5.00) -- 0.13% flexi
Punty's take: Six legs and four of them are open, so this is a lottery ticket, not a plan. Fun to have on the phone while the races go off, and the price could be massive if the chaos comes home.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Killenaule's blinkers
Blinkers go on for the first time for No.10 Killenaule, who has finished 2nd in each of his last three starts. C Maher has a 16.0% strike rate over the last 100 rides, so the gear change and the trainer's form line up.

2 - Handee's ear muffs
Ear muffs go on pre-race for the first time for No.7 Handee, the Race 1 roughie. He has a 1-1-0 record from three starts and is advantaged on the speed map, so the gear is worth watching.

3 - Regal Zeus is a machine on paper
Regal Zeus has 12 wins, 6 seconds and 1 third from 40 starts. That's a career that makes the rest of the Race 5 field look like they've been doing it on a scooter.

FINAL WORD FROM THE LOOSE UNIT LOUNGE

Back the banker, respect the chaos and don't chase the roughies with the rent money. Cashout and Angels Fury are the two anchors I'd want on a Friday arvo, and if the speed does its thing in Race 2 and Race 6, we'll all be sitting pretty by the last.
