✗ MISS -$5 Final

Race type: Handicap, 1300m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace with Next Stop Jupiter the only listed leader. Fabulean sits MIDFIELD, Anders Kiss and Trickemezi are MIDFIELD too, and Missile Baby, The House, Snappen and Whip 'n Neighneigh are all BACKMARKER.
Punty read: Fabulean is my main play here, each way. He sits MIDFIELD, which is the right place to be when Next Stop Jupiter is setting the tempo up front, and he came off a Townsville 1200m win last start in a race he handled well. The one knock is the 4kg rise from last start, and he's carrying more than his best weights, so I'll take the each way rather than the win alone. Next Stop Jupiter is the danger on the lead, backed hard into $2.10, and if the soft track slows the race down he can sit out the front and be hard to run down. Anders Kiss is the one to watch from midfield with a strong sectional and a short-run excuse last start. The House is the roughie-sized wildcard with blinkers on for the first time, but he's a backmarker and needs everything to fall his way.

★ PUNTY'S PICK 1. Fabulean (No.1) — $2.50 / $1.14 🏆 3RD
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P) — Cashed, net -$4.52
Prob 35.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.89x
Why Midfield runner who won at Townsville last start and has the fastest last 600 and last 400 on the line, the one to back in a race with a clear leader.

2. Next Stop Jupiter (No.2) — $2.15 / $1.10 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 32.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.70x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.

3. Anders Kiss (No.3) — $5.50 / $1.65 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.74x
Why Midfield with a last-start interference excuse and a 2kg drop in weight, a runner that could run into the money if the lead gets stretched.

Roughie: Whip 'n Neighneigh (No.8) — $26.00 / $3.80 🏆 UNPLACED
Bet Tracked
Prob 3.3% | Place: 20.7% | Value: 0.85x
Why A backmarker with a bumped and hampered excuse last start, so if the leader gets too far in front and the speed pressure goes away, he's the one who could swoop late.

Map & tempo: Genuine Pace with Five Star King the only listed leader. Tara I Am, Triple Triple, Shemakesmenervous and Determination are all ON-PACE, Mr Damage is ON-PACE too, and Rajnish is MIDFIELD.
Punty read: Tara I Am is the win bet, and the reason is simple: she sits on-pace behind a leader, she won at Mackay 1100m last start and she's been backed from $5.78 into $2.00. She's yet to win from three starts on soft, which is the one question mark, but the market is telling you the people who know are on her. Five Star King is the danger on the lead, with the tongue tie coming off and the bounce-back after a poor run. Triple Triple has been running on in the sprints and sits right on the pace, so he's the one who can make it a real finish. Shemakesmenervous has been backed in from the drift and his last-start excuses are a bit of a worry, but he's an on-pace runner who can grab a place.

Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace with Rock Angel the only listed leader. Menacing Kaiser is MIDFIELD, Cosmic Dynasty and Unega Wahy'a and Majestic Choice are ON-PACE, and Willow Capri is MIDFIELD.
Punty read: Rock Angel is the win bet here, a leader in a maiden with the market throwing money at him, dropping from $7.04 into $1.85. He's the only real speed in the race and the ear muffs are on for the first time, so he's got every chance to get into a rhythm. Menacing Kaiser is the danger, a midfield runner who has the tongue tie off for the first time and will be dangerous if the pace stays slow. Cosmic Dynasty has a fast finish in his sectionals and comes off a spell, and Willow Capri is the roughie with the blinkers off and a track record that's been better than the market thinks.

Map & tempo: Moderate Pace with Unifies and Wasabi Barbie both listed as leaders. Erimar and Miss Moneypenny are ON-PACE, Blue Allure, Spirit Of Mac and Chalkley's runners sit MIDFIELD or ON-PACE, and the speed duel should be the story.
Punty read: Erimar is the banker on the card and the win bet here, sitting on-pace with the fastest sectionals and a Rockhampton 1050m win last start. The market has moved from $3.76 into $1.33, so the money has been speaking clearly. Wasabi Barbie is the danger, a leader who came off a Rockhampton 1050m win and drops 2kg in weight, so he'll be the one setting the tempo for the first half. Miss Moneypenny is ON-PACE with a slow start excuse behind her and a Cairns win record, so she's the value pick for a place. Unifies is a leader who's been backed out to $20.00, a roughie with a bit of interference in his recent runs.

Map & tempo: Genuine Pace with Lonhy's Fabre the only listed leader. Aloysius, Arancia and Anthropology are ON-PACE, Bonnie Bouquet, Elegant Venus, Gotta Hero and Holy Crown are MIDFIELD, and the rest sit midfield.
Punty read: Lonhy's Fabre is the win bet, a leader who ran third at Rockhampton 1200m last start and has been backed from $4.81 into $2.34. He has a nasal strip on for the first time, and with the lone leader role he can dictate things. Anthropology is the danger, on-pace behind him, with a first-up win at Eidsvold and a 2kg drop in weight. Bonnie Bouquet is midfield and has a strong sectional, a Cloncurry win last start and a market move from $11.90 into $8.50. Elegant Venus is the roughie with bandages on the hind legs for the first time and a Twin Hills win last start.

Map & tempo: Moderate Pace with no listed leader. Our Missile, Upstart Legend and Maravillas are MIDFIELD, The Extreme Cat and Outback Action are BACKMARKER, and Cochrane, Raetihi, The Driller and Mayor Of Kingston are ON-PACE.
Punty read: Our Missile is the win bet here, midfield in a race with a moderate tempo, with a 4kg drop in weight and a Cairns win record that should suit the trip. His last start was an 8th at Atherton 1400m, so he's a bit of a wildcard in form, but the market has taken him from $4.72 into $2.94. Upstart Legend is the danger, midfield with a 4kg drop in weight and a Innisfail 4th last start. The Extreme Cat is a backmarker who won at Emerald 1850m last start with a late alt rider, so he's the value at the back end of the market. Raetihi is the roughie on-pace with a 7kg drop in weight.

Map & tempo: Moderate Pace with no listed leader. Intrepid Lad, Cash Artist and Morning Sun are ON-PACE, Airwaves, Sealord, Heathcliff, Decimus, Engeline and Watchya Language are MIDFIELD, and Rashford and Be Bob Aloola are BACKMARKER.
Punty read: Intrepid Lad is the each way play here, on-pace off a Rockhampton 1600m win last start in a middle-distance race where the tempo should be moderate. He's carrying the market well, drifting in from $7.69 to $4.80, and the trip and the track both suit him. Engeline is the danger, midfield with sectionals that are fastest at the last 600 and last 400, but he's got a late alt rider and a lot of questions around weight. Heathcliff is also midfield and has been backed from $13.33 into $5.70, with the warning about his weight in the data.

Punty's Early Mail

Rightio Ticket Munchers, Mackay is sitting on a Soft 5 with showers and a possible storm on the cards, so grab a coffee and settle in, because seven races and 76 runners is a lot of chances to get your heart rate up. The speed is scattered around the card, the big-price roughies are thin on the ground, and there's one banker race sitting right in the middle of it all.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Mackay, 1050m to 1560m card
Rail: True
Official going: Soft 5 (80% chance of 5-15mm rainfall)
Weather: Showers. Possible storm, 28°C, humidity 62%, wind 27km/h N
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Race 1 has one leader in Next Stop Jupiter, Race 2 has Five Star King on the lead, Race 3 has Rock Angel alone on the speed, Race 4 has two leaders in Unifies and Wasabi Barbie, Race 5 has Lonhy's Fabre in front, and Races 6 and 7 have no leader line at all, so expect a bunched, tactical run in both.
Jockeys to follow:
Ryan Wiggins: Six rides across the card, including Erimar in Race 4 (our win bet) and Five Star King in Race 2, so he's spread over the best of the speed.
Anthony Allen: Seven rides, the most of any jockey today, with Snappen, Hope To Heaven, Spirit Of Mac, Boom Crusher, Upstart Legend and Rashford all in the mix.
Aidan Holt: Four rides, including Intrepid Lad in Race 7 (our each way play) and Miss Moneypenny in Race 4, so he's one to watch in the back half.
Stables to respect:
Lachie Manzelmann (20 runners): The biggest stable on the card by a mile, with the entire Race 6 field and Miss Moneypenny, Heathcliff and Engeline elsewhere. Sheer numbers make them hard to ignore.
Kevin Miller (7 runners): Next Stop Jupiter, Missile Baby, The House and Whip in Race 1, Rock Angel and Betty's Impact in Race 3, and Erimar in Race 4.
Ricky Vale (6 runners): Determination and Five Star King in Race 2, Intrepid Lad and Morning Sun in Race 7, Menacing Kaiser in Race 3 and Lonhy's Fabre in Race 5.

Punty's take: Right, let's talk about where the speed is, because that's where this card gets decided. Race 1 has Next Stop Jupiter as the only leader, and the market has been all over him, shortening from $4.12 into $2.10. I reckon that's a horse you want to respect, but I'm not sure he's the banker everyone's making him out to be, because a lone leader in a soft track is only as good as the lead he gets. Race 2 is the same story with Five Star King on the lead, and Tara I Am is the one that's been backed hard into $2.00, so the question is whether the Mackay win last start is the real deal or just a fluke. Race 3 looks like a proper banker race on paper, with Rock Angel the only leader and the price collapsing from $7.04 into $1.85. Race 4 is where it gets fun, with Unifies and Wasabi Barbie both wanting the lead, which should set up a proper speed duel and let a stalker like Erimar tuck in and do his thing. Race 5 is a benchmark sprint with Lonhy's Fabre in front and a lot of midfield runners who'll be racing for second. Then we get to Races 6 and 7, which are the chaos merchants of the day, with no leader line and a bunch of runners sitting in the middle waiting for someone to make a move. Anything can happen there, and that's exactly why the quaddie gets wide in those two legs. Lachie Manzelmann has twenty runners on the card, and the entire Race 6 field is his, so if you want a stable to watch for a bit of sneaky value, that's the one with numbers.

What it means for you: Get aggressive where the price and the map agree. Erimar in Race 4 is the banker of the day at a short price, so the win bet there is a straightforward play on a horse that stalks a two-pronged speed duel. Rock Angel in Race 3 is the next most confident one, a clean lead in a maiden with the market moving hard his way. Tara I Am in Race 2 and Lonhy's Fabre in Race 5 are the other two straight win bets, and both are on-pace or leading horses in races where the shape should help them. Protect yourself in the chaos races. Race 6 and Race 7 are where the value lives, and the quaddie is built wide in those legs for good reason. Keep your Race 1 money on Fabulean each way rather than chasing the market favourite, and don't go overboard on the place sides in the big-field races where the place prices don't pay enough for the chance.
