Punty's Punts
Race type: Maiden Plate, 1000m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, so the on-pacers can actually hold position and not get swallowed
Punty read:
With only four runners and the pace slow, this turns into a tactical little wrestling match. Plea (No.1) has the cleanest profile for a leader or near-leader role, Liberty Calls (No.4) is the one that looks ready to stalk, and Elite Blonde (No.3) is the danger if they go wide or drift just enough to split them. Villicon (No.5) is the back-end chance, but here it's basically about whether the front three get tangled.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Plea (No.1) — $2.98 / $1.66 🏆 2ND
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 36.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.09x
Why Slow pace suits a horse that can get into rhythm early, and No.1 is the type of draw that helps him hold a position rather than chase air.
2. Liberty Calls (No.4) — $3.38 / $1.79 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 27.1% | Place: 58.5% | Value: 0.90x
Why Field's too small to pay places, so there's no saver to have — win bet on top or nothing. Tracked.
3. Elite Blonde (No.3) — $4.07 / $2.02 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.2% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 1.05x
Why Field's too small to pay places, so there's no saver to have — win bet on top or nothing. Tracked.
Roughie: Villicon (No.5) — $8.20 / $3.40 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.6% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 0.96x
Why Long odds in a four-horse race means you need a near-perfect trip and a collapse in the front, it's a "one of those days" play.
Race type: Class 3, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, Zouchase has the best shot at owning the front half and controlling the sprint
Punty read:
This is Race 2, the "someone's going to win by being the best early" kind of scenario. Zouchase (No.2) is the clear main attraction, sitting on pace and likely to get the run of the race. Boss Bandit (No.1) can get into it too, but he's the sort that needs the speed to be honest enough to allow a cornering chance. Karakaroo (No.3) is the middle distance type of sprinter who can still pop a surprise, but the main script is Zouchase leading into the final bit.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Zouchase (No.2) — $2.66 / $1.55 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$24.90
Prob 44.3% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.18x
Why Clean map for a 1000m, on pace, and the market pressure makes sense because this is the type to hold straight and finish.
2. Boss Bandit (No.1) — $3.73 / $1.91 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.0% | Place: 56.3% | Value: 0.93x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Karakaroo (No.3) — $5.81 / $2.60 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.0% | Place: 44.5% | Value: 1.02x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.
Roughie: Titahi Bay (No.5) — $10.20 / $4.07 🏆 5TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.6% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.98x
Why She's got gear change notes and could improve, but you need the speed to blow out and the others to misfire for her to get there first.
Race type: Bm60, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, expect a contest between the on-pacers and midfield runners who can find cover early
Punty read:
This is where Cunnamulla starts playing mind games. Pocket Eights (No.2) and Toy Story (No.3) are the two you want in your head because the race shape looks like it favours horses that can sit close and then ask for another gear. Tough Judge (No.5) is a live runner in this sort of shuffle, but he's more "trouble if it's on" than "wins every time".
And then there's Pins And Needles (No.6) at a price like a phone scam, blinkers off again, and Shine Like It Does (No.7) going in with blinkers off too. If the leaders go a fraction too hard and the lane opens late, that's where you can see something ugly and beautiful happen.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Pocket Eights (No.2) — $3.91 / $1.97 🏆 WINNER
Bet $15.00 Win — ✓ Won, net +$43.65
Prob 35.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.94x
Why The "on pace" map makes him tough to ignore, and he should get every chance to hit the line without getting trapped wide.
2. Toy Story (No.3) — $3.80 / $1.93 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 33.9% | Place: 68.9% | Value: 0.89x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Tough Judge (No.5) — $7.52 / $3.17 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 37.4% | Value: 0.98x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.
Roughie: Pins And Needles (No.6) — $38.46 / $13.49 🏆 3RD
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.5% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 1.99x
Why The roughie path is real if the front bunch bunches up and he can swoop off cover, but you need that exact race unfolding, not a normal run.
Race type: Hcp (55), 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, but Il Toro D'oro should get a run that sets up a finishing burst
Punty read:
This is the best betting race of the day. Il Toro D'oro (No.5) is the clear headliner, Al Ash Lad (No.3) is the main challenger, and Dazzington (No.7) is the wildcard type that can run on if the race loses shape. Here I Come (No.2) is the one at massive odds that could jump up with one of those scrambles at the right time.
But if you're watching where the pace goes, you want the horse that's going to get the cleanest path, and No.5 looks like the one who can.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Il Toro D'oro (No.5) — $4.02 / $2.01 🏆 3RD
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 40.2% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.97x
Why On pace with the right sort of finishing profile over 1400m, and the race shape should hand him a real crack at the lead-up and sprint home.
2. Al Ash Lad (No.3) — $5.95 / $2.65 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 24.6% | Place: 53.9% | Value: 0.99x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Dazzington (No.7) — $10.53 / $4.18 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.4% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.76x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.
Roughie: Here I Come (No.2) — $45.45 / $15.82 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.9% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 2.95x
Why He's the chaos price because he can win if the front end collapses and he gets the run through late, but it's still a tall order.
Race type: Open Handicap, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace means Mon Pierre can stalk, then pounce without burning early
Punty read:
Mon Pierre (No.1) is the one I want on a slow-tempo 1400m. If the field starts taking too long to sprint, that suits him perfectly because he can hold his position, then accelerate right when everyone else is still jogging. Turnstar (No.3) is the big danger, capable of finding a rhythm and running them down late.
Malarina (No.5) is the long shot to watch for a late run, but the honest story is this race looks built for No.1 to control the finish. If Turnstar lands closer than expected, it gets spicy. If not, we cash the spine and move on with our day.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Mon Pierre (No.1) — $2.15 / $1.38 🏆 3RD
Bet $15.00 Win — ✗ Lost, net -$15.00
Prob 53.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.03x
Why Proven Good track form, draws alright in the map, and this tempo suits the horse that can travel then hit the line hard.
2. Turnstar (No.3) — $4.17 / $2.06 🏆 WINNER
Bet Tracked
Prob 31.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.18x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.
3. Malarina (No.5) — $12.20 / $4.73 🏆 4TH
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.1% | Place: 19.1% | Value: 0.66x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.
Roughie: Deciduous (No.2) — $13.70 / $5.23 🏆 2ND
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 19.2% | Value: 0.90x
Why The gear and blinkers note can help, but you need a big run from the back half and a clean lane.
The day's multi leans on three win legs across the card.
1 - Zouchase (Race 2, No.2)✓ Won — $2.66
2 - Il Toro D'oro (Race 4, No.5)✗ — $4.02
3 - Mon Pierre (Race 5, No.1)✗ — $2.15

Punty's Early Mail
Rightio Loose Units, Cunnamulla on a Good track where the speed can get away with murder and the backmarkers need to arrive with a bus timetable and a prayer (or a gear change).
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Good, sprint to middle distance 1000-1400m card
Rail: True
Official going: Good (expected to play speed, position, and rail-trim races)
Weather: Partly cloudy, 20°C (watch for steady conditions, no rain, no excuses)
Early lane guess: Leaning forward early in the sprints, then it turns into a stalk-and-pounce job
Tempo profile: Slow to moderate early, with leaders able to hold a rhythm (especially in the shorter races)
Jockeys to follow:
Darren Evans: The kind of bloke who settles, then finds the lane late.
Todd Banks: Gets the job done when there's a run to take, steady pressure and patient hands.
Scott Sweedman: Can ride a plan, not just a horse, and that matters around provincial short courses.
Stables to respect:
Ben Waldron (2 runners): Sends out horses that handle the track, and he's not scared of a midfield push.
Vivian Jones (4 runners): Tidy strike rates around here, and they tend to show up when the map suits.
Leslie Baker (2 runners): When the condition is right, they peak, and the late charge is usually honest.
Punty's take:
Alright, Cunnamulla, you beauty. With the rail true and the track staying Good, the whole meeting screams one thing, get on the right bit of grass early and don't wait around like it's a café queue. In these 1000m and 1200m races, the leaders can set up a sprint rhythm, and if you're too far back you're doing extra work for fuck all.
There's a clear "three-headed beast" across the card that I'm backing as the spine. Race 2 is the standout, Zouchase looks like the one that can dictate the tempo and still kick. Race 4 is the same story, Il Toro D'oro is set up for a straight fight. Then Race 5 Mon Pierre is there to do the steady work and cash in on the Open Handicap script.
Race 3 and Race 4 are the ones where I expect the story to flip if the leaders jam up. Pocket Eights and Toy Story can land handy, but if the race turns into a shuffle, Pins And Needles is the long, ugly wildcard that could get out of jail off one run. Still, I'm keeping it tight and letting value come through in the right places.
What it means for you:
My game plan is simple, attack the races where the speed map matches the class and the market is aiming at the same bloke. So Race 2, Race 4, and Race 5 are the backbone, you can't spell punting without them.
For the roughies, I'm only interested when there's a clean path to winning. That means not "hope and vibes", it's "right run, right setup". So if the pace collapses, Shine Like It Does in Race 3 is the sort who might swoop into a gap like a villain turning up late to the movie. For a smaller-risk chaos angle, Here I Come in Race 4 is the one I'd watch if the inside bunch scrambles.
And yeah, I'm not going mad with exotics at a 5-race meeting. The quaddie math doesn't play friendly here, so we're leaning smart, staying disciplined, and letting the singles do the heavy lifting.
