Townsville Soft 5 today is basically a brake test. Once you get balanced, you can motor, but if you get shuffled or caught wide too long, you're done. Expect leaders to get a nice run early, then you'll see those same horses stop a half-step quicker than they do on Good ground. That's why I'm circling the ones with either real early speed, or a tactical sit where they can slide into the path without getting boxed in like it's a phone store on launch day.
Race 5 is the big "who's the real deal" moment, with Illegal Justice looking like the tidy pick in a field that should set up for him. Race 6 is another gear-and-timing race, where Leg Drive looks primed to pounce at the right time, and smart money is definitely sniffing around that storyline. And Race 8? That's a classic Soft 5 handicap where the market often overthinks and the right horse runs on anyway, particularly if the midfield doesn't get too cosy.
The other thing I'm leaning on today is gear changes and how they show up through the first half. Blinkers, tongue ties, bits coming off, all that stuff. If a horse is meant to sprint and they fix its focus today, it'll usually show up in the first 300m. That's when you want to be on, not after they've already done the hard part.
What it means for you:
If you're going to be aggressive, be aggressive on the horses that can hold position without getting dragged into a fight. That means, for my style today: place and each-way angles where the pace sets up, and straight win where the leader profile is legit and the value is still there at your price.

Race 2 is slow 2000m stuff, so you want the ones that can actually travel through the middle and still have something when the field starts stretching. Race 3 is where the pace pressure is high and the sprint speed is king, so I'm backing horses that look like they'll give you the right race shape.
